the 1st unit I got had a lot of problems so best buy just gave me a new one. at 1st I thought I'm gonna be having the same issues or more but as soon as I updated everything that pops out all my complains are gone. now I'm having a great time with it! the battery is not gonna last because of its performance just plug it in and you'll be fine. there is some stuttering while I'm playing CS:go though... but my system says its performing excellently.

Amazing laptop for a true desktop replacement. As a designer, developer and gamer I wanted a top notch tool for both work and pleasure. This thing is a tank and outperforms everything I throw at it.

Excellent product, great performance, a little difficult to find a backpack to fit it in that doesn’t scream rob me for my expensive laptop. Only complaint is battery life with the G-sync panel, there is no way to switch to the processors onboard graphics during web browsing and other simple tasks so the graphics card sucks the life out of it. If you can handle its weight and find a backpack appropriate to your style then this is an excellent mobile gaming set up even with the 1070.

This will be brief. Anyone who knows anything about Alienware knows the build quality and thermal solution is among the best in the industry. They understand what it takes to mitigate heat in order to allow proper power delivery and minimize thermal throttling. The only unfortunate aspect of this is size and weight. I personally would rather have a heavy, well built laptop with great performance than a thin and light with throttling issues. One drawback (minor) is the lack of USB 3 ports, especially considering that the laptop is branded as VR ready. You'll need a hub or to adapt from USB C or Thunderbolt. While we're on the subject, VR performance is great.

If you're the type that will sacrifice weight for power and performance, you're in the right place. Then 2K, 120Hz screen is well worth IMO.

If you are after speed, power and reliability then this PC is for you. This is a beast computer. Yes it is heavy, I won't deny that but the weight isn't because there is a brick inside but because it is a powerful machine. It has very beautiful lights on the sides and under the keyboard. It has Tobii eye tracking and a free licence of Assassin's Creed Origin!!! which is a killer with this game!

Originally purchased an Acer Predator. Loved my first computer, but the screen was not quite up to par. Bought a great priced Alienware 17 R4 open box and this baby is like new. Loving everything about it from Tobii eye tracking to the 1070 GPU. Only complaint (Not really a complaint) is that the fans can be a little loud when running at high settings. Haven't had any other issues. Full keyboard/num pad. Customizable lights. Great screen. No IPS unfortunately but small tradeoff.

I was fortune to get a fantastic deal on this. Ended up shelling out $1.8k on this and also got $170 of gift certificate. Config QHD G-sync, 16gb, 1070. Also, AW build quality is phenomenal. For the net value, i would have ended up shelling out more on a custom desktop with gsync display and windows 10. Keep an eye out for the deals.

I purchased this laptop for my daughter for Christmas. So far she loves it. It's very fast and the screen is large enough that she does not need to plug in to her external monitor. The only negative is that the this laptop is a bit heavy as is the power supply. It is more like a portable desktop then a laptop. Still, she loves it! It is super fast and the monitor is great!

Pros: Sturdy laptop. Great design and i love the rgb tron leds on the sides 1440p 120hz gysnc display hard to find on another laptop at this price Tobii eye tracker with windows hello makes signing in quick and easy Can handle any blockbuster games as of today Cons: Gaming on bf1 at 1080p 120hz spikes temperatures up to 90-100c on both cpu and gpu Thermal paste is factory stamped, would need to repaste for more efficient temperatures which voids warranty RGB keyboard and functions could be inproved. Color cycle transitions are very choppy and not smooth unlike other gaming laptop rgb keyboards like MSI No multimedia controls on keyboard which is a huge issue for me Killer wifi disconnects and has stability issues. I had to replace it with thr intel 8265. Speakers arent that great, and also audio port isnt spdif.

So I looked around and this was the best laptop I found for gaming! I bought an open box and saved a lot of money. Display is great and it has g sync. The sound is really good! I love that you can customize the color scheme to your liking The 1070 graphics card plays games at high levels. Only con I would say is the weight but it's a 17 inch beast.

    Review The Refurbed Product

I won't bother reviewing the alienware 17 laptop, since anyone looking for an alienware already knows the goods and bads of an alienware laptop if they are already looking for one. I am simply reviewing the product as I have purchased via Best Buy and Refurbed not new. The product came in in a timeley manner and was on time as they described. However, that being said, It took a week to get here and I think that is slow considering shipping these days and product availability. The product is as described and works perfectly and had near zero physical flaws, would be difficult to tell the difference between this and a new one. Product started up as if it were brand new and has worked flawlessly for weeks. Other than a little slow on the shipping the item worked out great. One more thing, the packageing was not the best, the product was shipped in its retail box with no other carton around it, that was probably not the best packing method but it did arrived undamaged.

THIS PC is RUINING my life $4500 essentially flushed: ILL EXPLAIN BELOW Best buy great / Alienware pcs SHOULD be great this is a frankenstein before they fixed the kinks and resulted in r5 There are few things I’d like to go over regarding this computer: 1. When I received this computer was created with the manufacturers fault that the screen was slightly pulled away from very base of mo. I spoke with 1 of 2 agents who would be at all helpful during this nightmare, and it is a nightmare. Anyway he set up the computer and said I’d be able to get the screen repaired whenever I so chose which turned out to be almost quite accurate, cannot say enough good things about this 1/2 helpful agents agent. 2. After this rocky start things started to go south quickly. Tobii I can only gather it was not intended to be used with this computer and they forced it because when it’s working it’s incredible and I use it to essentially control my computer however it will not work with this computer and will cause a large issue with a lot of other drivers. Don’t even try to use this setup with Cortana. Constantly verifying through the camera and and causing crashes. 3. Want the windows update…. NOPE. You could permanently disable your screen so careful if you do the workaround posted online 4. I have a pretty demanding job which requires the use of a high powered system and when I initially got this computer I wanted nothing more than for it to be just that because of this Alienware System R4 16gb I got was ‘top of the line’ however the constant crashing software bugs as well as a non recoverable backup drive going south this PC was essentially the perfect remedy for anyone who uses a computer for work and is trying to get fired. After saving for a I don’t know how long receiving the system and the problems that followed were a direct impact on my ability to succeed and be effective. I should have definitely utilized an online storage because as will you because YOUR going to need it.. this has been nothing but one of the worst experiences. I have OVER 50 hours of screen shots on the phone countless more not screen shotted apx 100 all together not including just my time trying to resolve it myself... just.. on... the... phone... $25 an hour x 100= $2500 and if it's not 100 hours on phone it's pretty darn close. If I were being paid for those hours I COULD BUY A NEW SYSTEM. I can bring up on my phone the screen shots for time spent being passed between Microsoft and Dell trying to get this pc fixed. AT what point do they realize that replacing the PC is the solution and maybe stop takin 3 hours a day of THEIR staffs time because MY time is not something they care about. 5. John at tech support in Costa Rica was AWESOME incredible guy!!!!!! However the previous 4 agents were flat out rude and essentially called me a liar. They explicitly told me that the Alienware mobile connect was never installed on the PC when I received it and was INCOMPATIBLE WITH THIS COMPUTER and this computer DID NOT HAVE THE REQUIRED COMPONENT. Well guys…. it DID come with it and I FOUND the screen shot to prove it. John was although hesitant was able to get the product working on the system again only because he believed me despite this nonexistent excuse hardware. Thank you John who also arranged to have a technician come to my home. Considering I watched as the previous agent had a failed firmware update in front of me and upon me telling him, “hey man that failed,” getting a response saying “oh it doesn’t matter,” and “hey can you not install the GeForce, just the driver” and them saying it HAS to be installed… nope. I was treated like a moron when in fact with exception of John they did a worse job than I would have every single time. 6. Blue Sreens, error messages, static freezing, not being able to utilize software pc comes with, data loss, graphics issues, incompatibility problems…. Just don’t do it guys because unless you get Best Buy protection plan your SOL and I unfortunately didn’t and with the exception of the help from John in Costa Rica at dell this has been just a terrible terrible experience. $2000 waste of time.’ 7. I will continue to have this problems with this the system until I replace it that I'm sure of and as much AS MUCH AS misery loves company and I would like a couple of support team members for this I say this: "spare yourselves." a. THIS COMPUTER WAS PUCHASED APX 4 MONTHS AGO, THAT’S ALL…. 4 months old…. phew Get something else.

I recently bought an MSI laptop, it was powerful except for the fact it was way to slim and over heated constantly, this being a much bulkier laptop I see is designed to help with that cooling issue...so far has been extremely fast and can run anything I throw at it.

I love this gaming laptop. The Tobii eye tracking is awesome, even though I don't have many games that utilize it right now. The system is fast, it's got an awesome look to the housing, and just all those fun Alienware features. Only issue I have on this thing is it's heavy, but I kind of expected that since I did go with a laptop with a large screen. Overall, this thing is a perfect balance for work and home life. Gaming when I need it and design and coding on demand. Compiling on this is actually much faster than any of my previous laptops, so it's an added bonus.

I’m not big into gaming on laptops, but when I travel if I want to do a little gaming I wanted a decent set up. So far I like this laptop, only drawback I have come across, is its size. It’s a bit larger than most 17” laptops due to the extra heat sink, and doesn’t fit in 17” laptop bags. Plus it’s a heavy laptop just over 10 lbs. Another note I run and Oculus Rift off this with no issues at all.
