I love this little magenta beauty! I currently own a Kindle Fire (button) e-reader, and the first generation Kindle Fire HD 7 inch 2012 model. I have used my older Kindle Fire HD up to 8 hours a day, for everything from photos, to games, e-mail, to Face Book, internet research, reading, to art work. I expect to do like wise with this little beauty. It took me less that ten minutes from opening the package to complete set up including four e-mail addresses. The Wi Fi connected with out a hitch. For those who have mentioned they can't get out of an app and back to the home screen, you simply swipe up or down anywhere in any app, and the home icon appears, allowing you to easily get back home. Also there is a large white question mark on your screen that takes you to help instantly, a complete owners manual with a search engine to search out anything you may need to know, and quick access to Amazon help as well, with out having to search the web or their page for help. I love the size. It's perfect. I love the new features. The e-reader app has a new green back ground that is very easy on the eyes. The split, double screen is a plus, as all you have to do is swipe up from the bottom of the screen, and all your apps are there to see as well as using the famous Kindle carousel. It has a the capability of splitting the key board in half, making texting and typing a lot faster for those that text. I am not a texter. But I can quickly see the advantage here. I'm thrilled to find that my Fit Bit can be synced and paired to this, via the bluetooth, and Fit Bit app. What a plus! Even though my old Kindle had Wi Fi capability, that feature never worked. I will also be able to use a Wi Fi memory stick to save things, such as photos and art work to. As well as the Amazon cloud service. Even with the cloud to save to, I highly recommend getting the 16 GB over the 8 GB. As the applications to run the operating system takes up nearly 4 GB of space on your device. Leaving the 16 GB with an actual usage space of about 11 GB. The 8 GB device is likewise, leaving just over 4 GB of usage space. The cameras are not going to be of much use to me, I will use them in a pinch, but if you want a photo worth looking at, don't leave home with out a back up camera. It does come with a photo editing app. However, when using the back facing camera it is imperative that you and the subject remain absolutely still, anything moving will form a double image. I will try to post a photo with this review so that you will see what I am referring to. I took a picture at a red light, when the shutter snapped a car was passing by, by the time the device loaded the photo the car was gone, leaving a "ghost" image of the passing car. This only happens with the back facing camera. The front facing camera will not take a crisp image at all. Even with all the tweaking possible, the pictures are extremely grainy even in the brightest light. This is a huge disappointment to me, but not a deal breaker. I really need to talk to an Amazon tech to make sure I do not have a defective device. I get a message after each photo with the back camera saying to hold the device perfectly still while the photo is processed. Which took up to three to four seconds, so you can't shoot two photos one after the other. That being said. I love everything else about this Kindle. The browser is smooth, and quick. I have been booted off the device in the middle of something, but it, for the most part stays connected, and should I get booted it only takes seconds to reconnect. We are talking about a budget device. Well worth every penny spent. It feels good to hold, solid, not cheap, and the screen and graphics are wonderful and sensitive to the touch. The screen is the best, being made from Corning Ware Gorilla glass, it is made to stand up to use. No cheap screen. The graphics are awesome. I do like to play Run Temple, which is easy to play even with quick moves and the graphics are awesome. All of my apps transferred right over from my old Kindle, and all of them work perfect. I have many art applications, and photo applications that I will use with photos transferred from my Nikon. (Through Face Book transfers.) Books down load quick and are a pleasure to read. The internet is easy to access with no issues and I have no problem viewing videos from You Tube. The single speaker is Dolby, and is fairly loud. I am deaf in one ear and partially deaf in the other, and was able to hear the videos. My husband says the speaker is quite loud and had no trouble hearing what I was playing from 4 feet away. I would highly recommend this device. I will update this review after I speak to an Amazon tech about the camera issues. I am a semi professional photographer, and am quite critical when it comes to cameras. A camera is only as good as the lens it is supplied with. For teens who love selfies, this would be fun. You can draw on your photos and type on them as well as add little fun touchs. I am glad I got this as it is much more portable and weighs a lot less than my 7 inch Kindle. But I won't be parting with my old Kindle. This is so easy to use with one hand. I am a grandma of 8 who loves technology. As a book reader alone, with out all the other capabilities it is well worth the price paid. I had considered buying the paper white, and may do so in the future. With this, you have the best of both worlds. you won't be disappointed.

Got this rather than the 7 or kids edition for more gb.Ordered online because i was sure myDaughter wanted the pink/magenta & it wasnt avail anywhr. Product arrived reasonably quickly. Pretty easy to set up..Got the Amazon package with all the apps/games..& my 5yr old LOves IT!She's been making vidz, taking selfies..lal..downloading/playin games/apps..unfortunately we've already reached a limit (even w/ 16gb) & have to delete some things & this leads to the only drawback i've noticed thus far..memory not expandable..Other than that this is a great deal for the price. #Satisfied

I purchased this as a gift for my girlfriend to replace her first Gen Fire and all I can say is WOW. This unit has me impressed. The changes to the newer Fire HD has been great. I went with the 16GB version because I didn't want her to feel like she didn't have space to store music and movies. She travels for work, and to see her family regularly on top of being a professional Tap Dance instructor. With this product, she can take all of her music with her on planes as well as putting a handful of movies to keep her entertained. I have enjoyed using this myself. She is more of a media junkie when it comes to using this and I use it for browsing purposes, and this Fire HD is great on all fronts. The free cloud storage guarantees she has every piece of music of show available, even if it isn't stored on the device. This almost makes up for the lack of an external SD card slot. I feel like having that would allow multiple users enjoy media without having to flip flop between sign ins etc. But that's the one thing I feel is missing. I got this for her to enjoy her media as well as give her the opportunity to video chat with her family back home. She loves this feature and it has helped ease the sadness of being far from her family. It's easy to use interface makes navigation simple and puts everything into perspective. The layover is different from a traditional tablet in this variety, and I think it absolutely crushes this. For those who read books, watch shows, shop through Amazon this puts everything right there, easy to find, easy to use. Overall, this product is one of the best steals in the tech world. Affordable, reliable, efficient and easy to use. The cameras are good, not great but line up with the price point and represents a great value. It's performance is consistent and smooth and removes the doubt of whether you should spend more on something else (like a Samsung tab or ipad) because it delivers in a way both those products don't and in a price point neither of those care to even approach. Buy this with confidence. Amazon knocked it out of the park.

This new Fire HD 6 is great. It's small to hold, but the screen in big enough to see well. I got the 16GB version for a little extra space since my old, original 8GB Kindle Fire had filled up. The price is really good for a fast tablet that connects to the Amazon ecosystem really easily. Only drawback is that the Fire doesn't work with the Google Play store, so all my apps have to be from the Amazon AppStore. The Amazon AppStore is good, but doesn't have as many apps as Google Play. The speed of the device is good; I have a 3D Disassembly app that rotates objects in 3D and it works really well.

    The Perfect E-reader...

... that is more then JUST an E-reader. I got this for my wife as a replacement to her dead Nook. The size is that of a small paperback book which makes it ideal to carry in her purse with out taking up all the space or weight. As it is a Fire HD it has the same HD resolution that it's big brothers have and more then enough computing power for this apps beyond being a simple e-reader. My wife reads a lot in bed and has stated the Kindle is a lot less heavy and awkward to hold while laying down. With Barnes and Noble no longer putting out a Nook color and pushing the Samsung tablet instead, The Kindle Fire makes a much more cost effective alternative. And you do NOT have to rely on Amazon apps only. You can get the Nook app here: http://apps.goodereader.com/android-apps/e-reader-apps/?did=2 Here's a video tutorial on how to install it: http://apps.goodereader.com/app-loading-tutorials/

Got this for my daughter and she loves it. It's a perfect size for her and we love the parental controls on here. Setting up profile for her was easy and managing her time of use and days of the week she can use it work perfectly. If you're concerned about keeping you child safe or keeping them from constantly being lost in their tablet this Kindle offers great tools to manage both. Would definitely recommend this.

Originally got it play games on the go, and now I use it for pretty much everything. I now use it to watch Netflix and YouTube in bed, read my books and comics on the go, browse the internet without having to turn on my computer, and of course I play games on it! It's easy to use, simple to set up and connect. I'm really glad I purchased the Kindle Fire HD.

Needed to get a tablet for my youngest daughter that was going into Kindergarten so I decided on the Kindle. My oldest has one and she loves it. For the features and brand I was actually kinda shocked but mostly pleased at the price. Being that it was going to be for a child turning 5 years old I certainly was not going to get an iPad for $700+... I truly don't understand how and/or why people do that but if you have money to burn. Who am I to judge? Anyway the Kindle was effortless to setup and a great gift. The way her face and eyes lit up when I gave it to her was priceless. Made it worth ten times what it cost! I would definitely reinvest in Kindle should an untimely demise befall this one.

I've been using my Kindle Fire for about 2 months now. It is pretty good but every now and then, I have to close it b/c it freezes. Not sure why, especially when I'm listening to an audiobook. I've had to reset it once b/c it wouldn't shut off or move or anything for a period of time. I'm hoping that it was just a quirky glitch when using the audiobook feature. Otherwise, I love it. I've uploaded 2 magazine subscriptions, my primary email account, uploaded a couple of songs and have a few calendared items listed. I would really like to depend on this item moreso than my laptop since it is so compact. We'll see how much use I get from it by this time next year.

It's a perfect size for reading, in my opinion -- fits comfortably in one hand. Gorgeous, high-resolution screen. Incredibly good price for all that you get. Like all Kindle Fire's, it has a modified version of Android operating system, but it does everything I need just fine. Small example: you can't easily get B&N Nook app on this, but if you search the web, you can find advice that works on how to do it. I also have a 10" tablet, so I didn't need this to have a big screen. If this were my only tablet, I might have gone for the 7" version.

We bought this tablet for our 10 year old son for Christmas. Now he can play his games and read his books on HIS own tablet. He loves it! He said he likes the smaller size because it is easier to hold, and he likes that it is easy to navigate. I love it because I can set security/play parameters with Kindle Free Time. I would definitely recommend this tablet.
