If I wasn't able to install Google Play Store I would not have picked up, but it's not too difficult to do so. I don't care about the potato spec camera because I have a decent camera on my phone. I would still prefer a higher DPI to make text clearer but even that aspect is not that bad. Usually speaker quality on such cheap products are bad but on this they are surprisingly nice. If on a hard surface the Dolby Atmos seems to do something with the sound, not sure how to describe it but if feels like a much wider soundstage. There's a YouTube video called "$80 Tablet vs $800 Tablet Review" that was the final straw in terms of convincing me. He dropped the tablet from a high distances onto a hard lamented floor, sometimes almost slamming it. The tablet was fine while the floor showed some damage. Perhaps there are some super demanding games that don't run well (I don't know I haven't checked), but for everything else it's does the job well enough.

I'd been contemplating trying out an Amazon Fire for a while just to see if I'd recommend it to a friend as a reliable communications device. I was going to just spend $49 for the least expensive Amazon Fire but when I found this Fire HD on sale for $79 I grabbed it up. What a smart choice. Not only is it great for email (I'm using the Outlook client app) but texting too (I'm using the Verizon text app) it's great for watching movies and listening to music as well.

I bought the Fire HD 8 with 16MB ram on sale for $49.99 ($30 off sale and tax free day). My intent is to use it primarily to surf the internet while on the couch in front of the TV or in bed. If you've been using your cell phone to surf the internet at home this is a great solution for a more comfortable experience.
Like others have stated, the Amazon Fire O/S is an Android flavor that Amazon modified and as such you can easily install the Google Playstore which allows you to download most of your favorite apps. You don't have to "hack" it to do this and installing the Google Playstore allows you to install the Chrome browser among other things. Basically, the Google apps and the Amazon Fire apps can coexist together so you don't have to remove any of the Amazon content or apps. Install Chrome, Gmail, Youtube, a nicer keyboard app and many Google apps as you like.
Also, for those concerned that about the Amazon advertisements that show up ONLY ON THE LOCK SCREEN don't sweat it. No, you don't have to pay Amazon the extra $15 for an ad free lock screen. Simply call Amazon or open up a chat window with an Amazon rep and ask them to kindly remove the advertisements. It takes two minutes for them to do it remotely and apparently Amazon wants you to be a happy customer so they'll gladly do this for free.
For $49.99 I'm very happy with the Amazon Fire HD 8. Lastly, I recommend the ZtoTop version of the case, the version with the built in handle that allows you to slide your hand in the backstrap to easily hold it without effort.

I went into Best Buy fully intending to purchase a Kindle Paper White. On display right next to it though, was this nifty little tablet in 3 delicious colors. And the adorablly little matching cases too! So, for less money, you get to read, watch movies, play games (if that's what you like), surf.....
I love this little cutie! Now, for under $80, don't expect a Samsung, but the truth is, the speakers truly out-perform any tablet I've used - including my Samsung Note 10. Watching a movie is great with beautiful sharp picture and true stereo sound with good bass. I read books and send myself articles to read later. Very comfortable on the eyes.
Only thing I don't care for is the blue light filter. Not useful for me, just kind of orangey. Only other flaw is very minor - there is this light leak thing on the screen when switching between apps. No big deal and it seems to be true for all the Kindle fire tablets from their first introduction.

his is a great tablet for someone who already has a larger screen tablet, or a large screen convertible laptop computer as you can use them alternatively for different tasks that either require mobility and a small screen or more screen real estate for performing word processing, watching movies or handling other more serious than simple data consumption tasks.

I bought several of these for my grandkids after watching a video showing the tablet being tossed around and thrown forcibly onto the floor. During this video, the tablet was being abused but kept working without a problem. I hope my grandkids treat their tablets better than the guy in the video treated his but I believe the tablets are durable. The video guy wouldn't even consider throwing his more expensive other brand of tablet because he said he already knew it would break. I also ordered covers made of leather that will turn the tablets on when opened and off (sleep mode) when closed. I like the Alexa app and believe my grandkids will also. The tablet screen is large enough but not too large to handle. The processor is decent and although the operating version is a modified version of Android tailored for Amazon, it works fine. It is easy to use Kindle on this tablet and easy to find free or inexpensive books my grandkids will enjoy. The tablet price was great as well so I was able to give a nice gift to all six grandkids without breaking the bank! I hope the tablets I bought are as durable as the one demonstrated in the video.

This Fire HD 8 delivers fast performance, a bigger battery and more base storage than the previous version for almost half the price. Its 8-inch screen is bright, the speakers are loud and has an expandable micro-SD storage and great parental controls. This tablet is also great for Amazon Prime members where they can access free video, music and other content with their subscription.
Cons: The display isn't as vivid as the iPad Mini 9 that this device is replacing and charging is a tad on the slow side but for an $80.00 tablet, I can live with this minor issues.

I wanted a device to browse content in a screen bigger than a smart phone, read e books and watch videos. Being cheaper, coming from a renowned brand, the latest 2017 Fire HD 8 had improved screen, memory, battery compared to its predecessor. Also, I found a way to install Google play store and use this as a normal Android tablet. Here's the link - https://www.howtogeek.com/232726/how-to-install-the-google-play-store-on-your-amazon-fire-tablet/.
The device runs smoothly so far after installing all my fav apps.

This tablet is exactly what Amazon was describing. It is cheap, looks good, loads apps quickly, expandable storage, good speakers, decent screen and all while staying under 80 bucks.
The start up didn't take long and it came preloaded with my account on it. For 80 dollars this is a good buy and the complaints on the wieght and the ads are ridiculous reasons to give this tablet a shabby review.

First, let me say that this is my first Fire tablet. I've previously had either iPad's or Android tablets. I was skeptical at first because I've generally only liked iPad's, but I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. I paid full price for this product and am not being compensated in any manner to post this review.
Let's just jump right to the Pro's and Con's shall we?
Pro's:
~Fast
~Amazing Screen resolution
~Great sound
~Responsive
~Alexa is kind of awesome
~Battery life. OMG! I've charged it once so far, I've watched YouTube videos on it, streamed a movie and a few TV shows and I use it for Facebook and I'm not even half way down on the battery after 3 days. Wow!
~The OS. The operating system is simple, responsive, and beautifully done. Everything is easy to find and it's really easy to navigate.
Con's:
Only one Con...
~Charge port. The charge port is sticky and doesn't seem as high quality.
Overall this is a fantastic tablet and worth so much more than the price. I LOVE IT!

So much nicer than my old tablet!! I loaded books, games and music onto it and still have plenty of storage for pictures. Takes nice pictures. It is so compact but yet so much like a full size desk top computer. I really love it so far and think it will be great for traveling!!

I purchased my first Kindle Fire in 2012. It held up for a long time. I hadn't used it in a while, and decided it was time to purchase the latest version. I not only bought one of these for myself, but a couple more for family members who have also had older Kindle Fires. We are not disappointed! This is a great purchase! Kindle Books, good for reading and with Audible, you can listen following along. I have a music collection on Amazon Music I can listen to and add songs to my library. The Silk web browser is handy, allowing you to go online. You can download games, watch Netflix and so much more....whatever your entertainment interests are! I love the size, not too big, thin and light. The cases offered by Amazon for it are great as well. There are kid proof ones or like I have, a case which can stand with a folding flap. I also like that photos can be taken with it. Just a great buy!

So this tablet offers a lot for the price. It's reliable, has a quality screen, good performance (no lag when swiping screen or opening apps), and good battery life. It doesn't feel fragile despite being made of plastic.
The only thing I would do different is add GPS capability.

If you're looking for a tablet that can surf the web, play games, read e-books, stream movies and videos, download social media and many other apps look no further because this tablet can do it all. For the price it's really not a bad choice at all. Compared to other HD tablets, this Fire HD 8 isn't the best HD quality wise, but it's still better than standard definition. Another small complaint I would say would also be the brightness on the screen. When set at default (50% brightness) the tablet doesn't look so bright, but of course to remedy this you can adjust this by raising the brightness level to the max to get the brightest picture possible, which is awesome. I only mention this because most other tablets usually are pretty bright when left at 50% brightness. Other than that I have no other negative thing to say about this tablet. The battery life is good. The build of the product feels well put together. The sound quality is a jump from last years Fire because it has 2 speakers and are both Dolby Audio certified. Set up is pretty easy and if you owned a Kindle Fire in the past you can simply download and transfer all your apps over to this new one, via Amazon Cloud, simply by registering using your Amazon account, which is no hassle at all. Touch screen is very responsive and additional memory can be added up to 128GB via microSD. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to pickup a tablet to do everyday tasks, casual gaming and video streaming. For the price you really can't go wrong with this product.
