Customers praise the Kindle Oasis's large screen size, ease of use, and waterproof design. Many appreciate its lightweight feel and the inclusion of page-turn buttons, as well as the adjustable backlight. Excellent Reader

With the Oasis, Amazon has addressed nearly every complaint I have ever had with the Kindle line. * The front lighting is excellent and with 12 LEDs, very uniform * A 300dpi 7" display panel gives great text sharpness and allows for more words on every screen * Amazon recently added additional font sizes so I no longer have to choose between one size being too small and the next one up being too large * You can now add your own fonts if you want * 8GB minimum storage instead of 2-4GB in other models, means I can spend more time reading and less time worrying about managing the space on my device * Physical buttons are back * BT audio support for text-to-speech. I still know at least one Kindle Keyboard holdout specifically because it was the last model to have integrated speakers. While BT audio isn't quite as nice as an integrated solution, it's a reasonable compromise. * The processor used in the Oasis is designed specifically for use with e-ink displays so the number of times the software has to fully refresh the screen is reduced even more There are a couple minor issues I have with it, but nothing I can't live with. * Only one set of page turn buttons, so if you get tired of holding it with one hand, you have to turn the entire device around which can make it a little hard to find your place again. * Battery life is not up to par with older models with larger batteries, and unlike the previous Oasis model, you can't add a secondary battery via a cover. You'll probably be charging it around once a week instead of once every couple of weeks with older models. * Still no support for unencrypted ePubs -- they added support for user fonts, which everyone would have said was never going to happen until it did, so maybe one of these days... * Amazon seems to have added a "deep sleep" mode so you'll see a "waking up" message on the bottom if you haven't used it in a while, and it adds a couple extra seconds to being able to start reading. All in all, it's an excellent e-reader.

    Unusually expensive - ad-ridden experience

I've always been a fan of the Kindle, ever since the first one came out over a decade again. I was excited about this Kindle due to the many premium features it showed - the all-metal finish, high-resolution ePaper display, backlighting, extended battery life, etc. I was significantly disappointed to see that Amazon pushes ads through the Kindle when you put it into sleep mode, and throughout the store options. Additionally, I was further frustrated by the fact that I learned there was a cellular version (available direct from Amazon) but not through the store. For such an expensive unit, to have ads with no option to disable them, seems unreasonable and like a rip-off. Additionally, the fact that this only supports wifi (not cellular or WhisperSync) makes it even more of a drawback and something I would not recommend to a friend - stick with the cheaper version. I also found annoying problems trying to get my Apple Airpod earphones to work with this device. Pairing took forever to finish or work (had to try three different times) and if the unit sits for too long, I found that I had to go through the entire pairing process again; they were not automatically connected and synced the moment I had both devices turned on.

Love it but not as complete as the Kobo

I had a kobo aura hd before switching to the Kindle oasis. The kindle is quite better (better design, better screen, faster) and I love it but you will have to use a software like Calibre if you want to send non-amazon ebooks. Furthermore that reader won’t show you the book cover when in stand-by mode even if you pay the fees to get rid of the adds. To summarize: I love it but I’m a little bit frustrated that it can’t do as much as the competition. Perfect for amazon customers.

I love it! No more dropping books in the pool. This is why I purchased the Oasis. Love that it automatically adjust the brightness and I can read any where now. If you have an older kindle and don't use it around water, I would not upgrade to the Oasis. There is not enough improvements to justify the upgrade or the high price. I did not have a Kindle and read in the pool often.

I was a bit skeptical about the strange shape of this reader. But the fact that it is water resistant and can go white letters on a black screen sold it for me. I highly recommend this reader, it’s fast, long lasting battery and not very big.

Great E-Reader If You Like the Way You Hold It

The Kindle Oasis is a great e-Reader. I recommend it unconditionally, but with one caveat. It is designed to be held in your hand in a particular way. Whether you like holding it that way, or whether you like the way a Kindle Paperwhite is held, is a matter of personal preference. My wife and son like the Oasis better. I like the way I can hold the latest Paperwhite better. Considering the price difference between the two and the feature improvements in the latest Paperwhite, it may be worthwhile going to the store and actually holding both types of Kindles before choosing. The type of reading you plan to do may impact the amount of storage you choose to get. The smaller amount will be ample for most readers. Someone planning to store a lot of graphic material such as graphic novels, and perhaps someone planning to store a lot of audible material, however, might want to assess their needs before making a decision. The reading experience is great and comes as close to reading a paper book as I have found. Battery life is great, visibility excellent indoors or out, the backlight makes reading in bed great, and the water resistance means you can take it places you could not risk in the past. I love having my Kindle on long flights.

I purchased this Kindle as an upgrade from my Paperwhite I've had since 2014. I still use my Paperwhite but the Oasis is an upgrade well worth the money. The text is a lot more crisp and clear, the turning buttons are a great convenience. The battery still lasts a good long time without having to be charged too often. The battery life isn't as great as my old Paperwhite, but it isn't anything I'd complain over or wish was better. The Bluetooth connectivity for listening to audiobooks from the Kindle is an amazing upgrade from my old Paperwhite! I also purchased the 2 year geek squad protection because I'd absolutely die if my Oasis got damaged and I couldn't get it repaired or replaced. I see this as kind of an investment because of how expensive it is but also because of how immensely useful it is for someone like me, who loves to read a lot. If you are considering this Kindle, I'd absolutely recommend it! I'd also recommend you purchase the protection plan with it. The Kindle is very thin on one side and it kind of scares me that it might be... A delicate item that could get damaged easily. Better to have peace of mind than not. I give this Oasis a 5/5.

This is the best Kindle out of a long line of Kindles. Amazon improved on all the bad points of the first Oasis and made it almost perfect.

I got this for my girlfriend and she loved it. I'm not a big reader but man... If I had to go one route, it would be this one. I have big hands so the grip in the back helps a lot. If you have the cash and are an avid reader than I HIGHLY recommend this kindle. You will not be disappointed. The only reason the Kindle Paperweight is the better seller is because of the major price difference but like I said if you want to splurge and read a lot... then this should be your choice. BAM! I'm out.

I have used and loved three previous Kindles: the Kindle Keyboard, the 1st gen Paperwhite and the Voyage. Without a doubt this one is the best. This is the first Kindle I can comfortably hold in my hands. I love that if I want to switch from holding it in left hand to holding it in right hand, the text automatically flips. No matter which hand you hold it in the page turn buttons are in the perfect place for your thumb. No regrets in this purchase!

I've had several Kindles over the years, and I also used a tablet with a Kindle app. I was interested in the Oasis because it was lighter (to hold) and could facilitate outdoor reading. I liked it's larger screen size too. This has been a great purchase!

I bought this to replace an older kindle. The backlight is very good and it’s a nice lightweight device and easy to hold/use with one hand. On the downside, the buttons are more sensitive than my old one, but that’s just a matter of getting used to it

Good Reader - Short Battery Life

Overall this is a great product. The only negative is the battery life. Based on what was said we upgraded for more battery life, and it does not happen. Battery life is about the same as the cheaper model. But the larger size is easier to handle. Screen is easy to read in bright or dim conditions. So make your own decision.
