I've been looking to get a sous vide cooker forever since everyone I know that has one raves about them. After getting the Anova PC3, I can totally see why; sous vide takes all the guesswork out of cooking, and Anova's app takes that convenience to the next level. I've had great results with every type of food I've tried, so if you're considering buying one, I'd highly recommend you go for it! I've tried a number of foods with the Precision Cooker 3, ranging from steaks to wild duck and venison to stews, and it allowed me to cook everything perfectly. In my experience, it holds an unexpectedly consistent temp for the duration, allowing you to key in on exactly the level of done-ness you want. At this point, I've cooked a number of steaks with the Anova and though I normally prefer to grill them, the winters around here mean grilling isn't always an option. I dialed in 125 degrees, threw them in, let them sit for a few hours (I've heard no more than 6 hours recommended), and then finished them off with a quick sear on a frying pan when we were ready for dinner. The steaks were a perfect medium rare, which is somewhat difficult to do with just a frying pan alone without constantly monitoring them. My experience with steaks was similar across the board for everything I've tried. Wild duck and venison are notoriously difficult to cook correctly; not so with the Anova PC3. Beyond various meats, I also tried pre constructed beef stew, and this predictably turned out great as well. The ability to "low and slow" cook it means it turns out perfect every time. The Precision Cooker 3 is incredibly easy to use, both standalone and with the app. The cooker has intuitive controls on the top and gives you a quick view of both the temp and time. However, the Anova app takes this ease of use and the general convenience of sous vide cooking and supercharges it; it allows you to see the cooking progress from wherever you may be, and also allows you control the device remotely. In my case, I've used this to "stage" the Precision Cooker 3 in the water ahead of time, and then fire it up when I'm ready while not needing to be next to the actual cooker. Beyond the device control, however, the app also includes cooking guidelines for various foods giving you all the information you need to make delicious meals with very little effort. Overall, my experience with the Precision Cooker 3 has been great. Being my first sous vide cooker, I didn't quite know what to expect, but it's been nothing short of a major upgrade to our cooking routine around the home. It's brought the same level of convenience that crockpots have for years, but with infinitely more control of how done your food is.

    Expanding cooking like a NOVA

The Anova Precision Cooker 3.0 is an innovative kitchen device. Combining technology with cooking is always a delight, and I had recently been exposed to sous vide cooking so it is a nice way to delve in at home. It’s very easy to set up and makes the process of sous vide easy and straight forward. The Anova produces consistently cooked food every time by always cooking your food within 0.1 degrees of the desired temperature using the warmth of the water. There is an app that lets you keep track of your cooking along with provides recipes if you are new to the style of cooking. To use the Anova Precision Cooker all you need is a large stockpot and some vacuum seal bags. I absolutely recommend to use vacuum seal bags instead of ziplock, because one leak and your cooking as gone terribly wrong. Anova does all the work for you with hardly any mess since you set the temperature and walk away. Instead of spending 1-2 hours prepping for dinner, you can literally throw your steak, fish, or chicken into a bag with some garlic, butter, and vegetables and come back to a perfectly cooked meal. It does require a bit of planning since you’re often looking at 4-5 hours before the food is ready; probably the hardest part for me/the family, but worth the pre-thought investment. I have discovered some new recipes through the app that I will be planning to try. I have a growing baby who is getting more and more into solid foods and I look forward to seeing what meals I can make with my precision cooker for the whole family to enjoy, knowing we've achieved an adequate temperature is imperative to me and the Anova helps with this comfort!

    A revolutionary way to cook!

I was very excited to try out a new way of cooking with Anova Precision Cooker 3.0! This is a totally new experience that will revolutionize your cooking and most of all your food will taste so good, your family and friends will wonder whether you ordered your steaks from a high end restaurant. This Precision Cooker uses Sous Vide (pronounced sue-veed) method of cooking. It is a cooking technique that utilizes highly precise temperature control to deliver consistent, edge-to-edge perfect results, with virtually no risk of overcooking your food. All you have to do is place your meats in a vacuum sealed bag (and may this not scare you as you simply use a cooking plastic or silicone based bag and immerse it in the water to get the air out), place it in any pot (of feel free to buy a trendy Anova container), fire up your Anova Precision Cooker 3.0 and you are done! The Anova Precision Cooker is so sophisticated! You can pair it up with an App and control it over Wi-Fi with your phone or simply use the two-line touch screen display which allows you to quickly view time and temperature on the same screen and/or manually control your cook straight from the interface. The results were amazing in my case - my steaks came out tasting so good! The vacuum seal and the Sous vide technique preserved all the juices and flavor and my steaks were delicious. I am looking forward to checking out all the recipes I found on their app and the website. You can use it to can things, to slow cook or even make rice. I am going to spread the word about it as not many friends of mine even heard of this technique and method of cooking!

I received the sous vide this past week and was anxious to see to use it. After opening the package I was impressed to see how nice and secure it was packed. Upon opening the box I surprised to see that there was only a small instruction pamphlet to get you started. It didn't help much. There was nothing to tell you what to set the temperature and cook time to. What is needed is much more information on temperature settings and time. It's very inconvenient If you have to go on your main computer and go to the manufacturer's website to get everything you need. It would be nice to have at least some actual instructions with recommendations for temps and time for cooking. It would have also been nice to see some included recipes to try with the product. Many companies include things like this to give you a starting point with learning to use the device. It is nicely made and feels very well constructed. It's easy to clean as well. Not having a reference or detailed instructions made cooking the first time not very successful and resulted in the meat being very dry. Overall with practice and more research it will be easier to use, but I think one of the biggest deal breakers is there not being any useful documentation in the box, especially if you've never used a Sous Vide before and being relegated to having to use the website is unfortunate. Even having something like a QR code to scan with your phone and download an app or open a manual would have been so much better.

Did you know the difference from a rare to a medium rare steak is just 3 degrees? I didn't realize it....As someone who grills or smokes meats 4-5 days a week this is a necessary addition to my arsenal. If you don't have one, then trust me, you NEED one. I know, I get it....I was skeptical too about cooking in a "water bath", but once you understand the why and how, it will make sense to any average joe who understands that when you are smoking or grilling food, its all about cooking to that perfect internal temp instead of cooking for any amount of time. Utilizing this device takes out all the guess work.... it will literally be IMPOSSIBLE to overcook that expensive ribeye you bought. It will make it super easy to cook that filet to the perfect internal temp that your wife wants every single time you use it without overcooking and ruining that expensive cut of meat! Don't get confused and think that this will take the place of your favorite grill or smoker, just think of it as another accessory that makes grilling or smoking that meat to that perfect internal temp and never having to worry if you need to flip it, or if you left it on the grill too long, or if the grill temp accidently got too hot. I didn't even get to the app yet, this makes it even easier since you don't have to stand around all day babysitting the cook. Go buy on already!

So far have used for thick rib-eyes and filet mignots. We cook until 124.5 degrees, and either pan sear or BBQ grill the outside. The inside is muy perfecto! Haven't had a perfect medium-rare steak (aside from restaurants) EVER until now. Easy to use, and food turns out great even if left at temp for over 4 hours (though they say not recommended.) The savings you pay for gas tanks fill ups eventually pays for the purchase. This purchase was a no-brainer for us- just wished we knew about this sooner!

    Best Meat You'll Ever Cook

I love this gadget! I've been meaning to get into sous vide cooking for a couple of years, when my cousin, a fitness freak, first started using the method. A few other friends also had recommended it. I wondered if there was really room in my cabinet for yet another kitchen gadget. Eventually yet another friend said “yeah, this is awesome”. So I decided to finally get one. Needless to say, this is my first sous vide kitchen tool. I was thrilled to get this 1100 W unit. This totally changed the way I cook meat, end of story. I have never cooked meat so tender and delicious. If you like meat, you really want to get one of these. It's everything they said it is and more. I did not have any issues with getting it to connect to the app. And the app is very easy to use and there are presets based on the type of protein you’re trying to cook. I’m not sure how the device or app could be made any easier to use. Keep in mind, it only supports 2.5 GHz Wi-Fi. So far I have used it on chicken breasts, chicken thighs, salmon fish, lamb rack and lamb loin chops. The meat comes out amazingly tender! I've been using the Anova for 2 weeks now and trying new recipes almost daily. I gave up chicken breast years ago because I just could never learn to cook it right. Most of the time it came out dry, chewy, stringy. The 1st time I tried it sous vide, the flavor knocked me for a loop! I'd never cooked a chicken breast that tasted that good before, and I didn't even put any seasonings in the bag. Just a bit of salt & pepper after it was cooked. You probably want to wait until the water is at the specified temperature before you immerse your bagged food. I use the hot water from my tap to fill the tank and the heater raises it to cooking temperature very quickly for such a small device. You can also dip water from the tank into a pyrex measuring cup and heat that in the microwave, then pour it back into the tank to take some of the burden off the coil and raise the temp faster. But if you just let it work, it'll raise the water temp to your target temperature and hold it there with extreme efficiency. Understand that as awesome as this thing cooks, it takes time. This is no a get home from work and figure out whats for dinner type thing. It can do thinner cuts of meat in 1-2 hours but that also means prep time and finishing afterward. It's great for the weekend special meals or if you can get it going the evening before. We had a big family get together last weekend and had to cook a plenty of meat. Here's how things went (all cooking was done in a plastic storage box containing about 40 quarts of water): 1. Salmon (about 5-6 lbs at 125 deg F for 40 min): No problems here, though we started off using hot tap water to reduce the time needed to reach the target temperature. The Anova had no problems maintaining the target temperature after the fish was immersed. 2 Rack of lamb (about 6-7 large racks at 140 deg for 60 min): This was a slight challenge, as it took the Anova a long time to bring the water to temperature, so we added stove-heated hot water. Again, once the target temperature was reached, things were fine. 3. Chicken thighs (about 40 thighs, at 160 deg for 90 min): This was more than the Anova could handle. The higher target temperature meant it took a very long time to heat up the water, even with adding stove-heated water. Moreover, immersing the cold chicken cooled the water by 15 degrees, and the Anova really struggled to heat the water faster than the meat was cooling it. This required a lot of hands-on effort - pulling water out of the bath, heating it up on a stove, and pouring it back into the bath. My advise: Remove the meat from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for some time before cooking. This will prevent water from cooling down and also help to cook the meat evenly inside out. This is not a fast technique for cooking. It is a phenomenally SLOW technique. But it is also remarkably precise, never overcooking the food, even if you leave it in the cooker for hours past the point where its completely cooked. It can't overcook -- it brings the food precisely to the temperature you set, and no further. This is good for cooking tough and inexpensive cuts of meat, because you can leave them to slowly cook for days without worry that it'll overcook. It turns that tough connective tissue into lip-smacking, tender gelatin, making the toughest cuts into fork-tender deliciousness with NO possibility of overcooking, ever. If you'd like to enjoy high quality, high-cost cuts of meat at home and avoid disturbingly high restaurant prices, get yourself this Sous vide cooker. It's hard to believe you can enjoy quality meals at home that you thought were only possible in a restaurant, until you try this tool. Try it, you'll love it.

Pro: -Simple to use Con: -Takes a long time I’ve never tried sous vide but I knew the process and the results are supposed to be incredibly tender and moist meals. It does take some patience to cook a meal, and some learning to cook properly with it. Having the app can help take some of the guesswork out. Once linked, the app not only lets you control the cooker but also browse uploaded recipes. There are numerous and seems to have a good community of people adding more. Once you have the recipe picked out and prepped your ingredients, simply tap to start cooking and the app will set the time and temperature according to the recipe. Though it’s easy to start cooking, you still have to be mindful during cooking, as differences in the cut or thickness of the meat can affect the result. My first time, I followed a steak recipe but used thinner cuts and ended up overcooking it. Some recipes can end up either overcooking or undercooking and it takes trial and error to learn the proper settings. The cooking process is simple but takes a very long time, which is the biggest con of using this cooking method. First, fill a tall pot with enough water, and clamp the cooker on the side of the pot. Set the temperature and time (or use a recipe from the app), then wait for the water to heat up. Once ready, drop the ingredient in a sealed bag and wait hours for it to slowly cook. It’s recommended that you use vacuum sealed bags, but you can use a ziplock freezer bag instead. Just dip the bag into water to push out all the air. Once the cooking is done, you would usually do a quick sear in the pain to finish it off. If done right, it should be brown on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. Cleaning is minimal since it’s just dipped into water. The clamp can be loosen and removed, then twist the metal sleeve and slide it off. The inner coil can be wiped gently. I’m still learning how to get the settings right and do the proper finish to get the desired result. While it’s easy to set up and cook, it takes a long time. Having the app makes it a bit easier to jump in and start trying out meals.

I have the first generation Anova Precision Cooker and love using it. It does exactly what it says, cooks food using the sous vide method and does it perfectly every time. The Anova 3.0 doesn’t look all that different from the original. The basic design and aesthetic features are the same, right down to the clamp you use to secure the Anova to your cooking container. However, the big difference with the new Anova is that it connects to the Anova app. It allows you to control the Anova remotely (which is nice when I have to go into the office), plus it offers a variety of recipes. There are some many things you might not think about cooking sous vide, so the app can really spark some interesting ideas. I’ve done all of the usual things you see, and steaks are probably still my favorite, but you can prepare most of your meal in advance with Anova as well. One of my family’s favorite things to do is fingerling potatoes with butter, garlic, and herbs. When the potatoes are done you can leave them whole or smash them. You will not find smoother, creamier potatoes anywhere. The Anova stays incredibly accurate, never loses temperature, so food comes out exactly the way you expect, every single time. One thing I would recommend is getting the plastic cooking container that Anova offers. I thought this was a little silly at first, but it actually makes a huge difference. Cooking in a regular pot can limit the space you have to work with, whereas the cooking container is wider across but still quite deep, so you can fit a lot more in it and make sure things are cooked evenly. The container also works very well with the precision cooker because although you are cooking at lower temperatures, it is still very hot. And cooking in a non-food grade container can be dangerous (the container may collapse). Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about the Anova. This is my second one and I love it as much as the first and can’t wait to try to some new recipes.

I'm amazed at this little item. I had never heard of Sous Vide before. I had to do some research on this beautiful cooking style. Anyone who loves to get down inside the kitchen will enjoy this item. The setup was super easy and simple. Just like setting up most devices today. You download the app which will do almost everything for you. Do you have some zip-locked bags, a larger 12-inch pot, and an appetite? Then you have all the things along with the Precision Cooker to get started! The precision cooker can connect to Wi-Fi which I'm very much not a fan of. Now connect the Precision Cooker to your large pot and be ready to be amazed. I didn't use this to cook meats, but it can be used to make some wonderful vegetarian additions to a meal. The beauty of this is it's hard to screw this up. Your food will not be overdone or overcooked. I would say this is more of a product for a culinary individual or for someone who loves cooking. My only negative is the Wi-Fi and App. I don't need my cooking devices to have Wi-Fi. I mean we already lived in a Wi-Fi-polluted environment. With the app... everyone wants you to download their app these days stealing your data (I'm not saying this is happening here) plus my phone only has so much storage.

This Sous vide cooking device is sure to elevate your cooking experience due to its ability to connect via Bluetooth AND wifi to the Anova app! This means, theoretically, you could make a quick trip around the corner to the grocery store to pick up some forgotten ingredients and get on your Anova app to check and see how your cooking progress is coming along! For dedicated Anova fans, that improvement alone could make the switch from the 1st generation or 2nd generation worth it to them! This is a very sold, hefty piece of cooking equipment with excellent construction out of solid, long lasting feeling metals like stainless steel. I think that with this full size version, the attraction might be its ability to cook at such as huge capacity; even a 5 gallon container wouldn’t be a circulation challenge for this beast. The fact that it is not difficult to take apart and clean really helps maintain interest in it too as a sort of entry-level stand-alone sous-vide unit! Hope some of these points help to encourage your purchasing decision, bon-chef!

The Anova Precision Cooker is something I did not know much about before getting this item. It is used for a type of cooking called Sous Vide. Sous Vide is a method of cooking food, especially meat or fish, by vacuum sealing the food and immersing it in warm water. Using the Precision Cooker was simple. There are only a few buttons on the small screen, a temperature button, a timer button, controls for them, and a start button. There is also a mobile app with tons of recipes. You can even connect the device to your phone via wifi and set the temperature and time with it. The first time I used the precision cooker I connected to it via the app and used one of the recipes for chicken. The setup was very easy. All I had to do was click the “cook this recipe” button and the machine did the rest. When the water got to the temperature I easily placed the vacuum sealed chicken in the water and the water cooked it. The second time I also used the recipe feature with the app, but used mason jars to make creme brulee. It also worked really well, and the app has tricks and techniques. While the machine works great, there are a couple of downsides. One downside is that the alarm to signify the time of cooking has finished is not very loud, so if you aren’t right by it you won’t hear it. It also does not notify you with the app. The other downside is that when the time finishes, it does not turn off automatically. You have to physically go turn the machine off. Overall I really enjoy this device and will be using it regularly in my day-to-day life.
