Anova is king - everyone else is a distant second.

Anova - Precision Cooker Nano 3.0 Let me start out that I love Anova products. They work exactly as advertised and offer great quality at an affordable price. The Precision Cooker Nano 3.0 does not disappoint and continues that tradition in most facets. That is not to say there are some shortcomings compared to some of its big brothers. In review: Construction, fit and finish – The first thing you notice is that it is small - very small. Hence the name “Nano.” It is the smallest and lighter cooker in the Anova line up. It is about 1 inch smaller in every dimension and nearly half the weight compared to the Cooker Pro (of which I own two.) That makes this only 12.8 inches tall and weighs only 1.54 lbs. The display is clear but it is on the smallish side compared to some other models. Those with large fingers may not find it as usable. However, this is not overly important since it is app controlled as well ( which I only use on all the Anova cookers.) The Nano 3.0 is made of sleek black plastic with a tight fit and finish. I do prefer the Pro design that uses a lot of metal. Set up and the app- You have a choice to operate the unit with or without the app. If you are in a hurry , you can remove the protective plastic , put it in a water filled pot and plug it in. You will be up and running in a few minutes. Of course, the Nano 3.0 is designed to work best with the app. Simply download the app, create an account and connect to the Nano 3.0. The app immediately identifies the Nano when you reach the connecting phase, very simple. After connecting, the app will probably tell you there is new firmware for the unit. It only takes about 2 minutes to update and then you are up and running. From there, you can choose to set the temperature and time based on a recipe or choose from the multitude of guides and recipes. When you choose a guide for a meat, it will show you various pictures for doneness and take you through the steps. While you can choose to not use the app, there is whole another world when you do. The app is well thought out with an easy-to-use UI. Performance – I tested the Nano 3.0 cooking chicken cutlets that were vacuumed sealed with seasoning a small amount of broth. Anova makes an affordable great vacuum sealer that is perfect to use with the Nano. I set the timer on an hour at 150 degrees. The first thing the app and the Nano told me is that I did not have enough water in the pot. I knew that as I was already adding more water to pot. It is a nice safety feature. The first thing I noticed is that it did take considerably longer than my Anova Cooker Pro did to heat up water – like a lot longer. I probably used a larger pot that I had to ( 12 quarts,) but it is also because the Nano 3.0 is 850 watts as opposed to the 1200 watts I am used it. The Nano 3.0 also did not circulate the water as fast as the larger Anova units. However, it did maintain temperature just as well – barely fluctuating by .1 degrees are so. Impressive for such a small unit. In the end, it took about 1 hour and 20 minutes to cook the chicken including the time it took to reach the temperature set point. You can check the app along the way and it will alert you once the cooking cycle is complete. The chicken came out exactly as intended – juicy, tender and not stringy. In conclusion, the Anova Nano 3.0 does not disappoint. The unit does exactly as advertised; albeit slower than I like. The Nano 3.0 is designed for smaller meals and perfect for one two people. I can see it falling short for larger items or larger batches of foods. If you look at the specifications, it shows it has a flow rate of 7 liters a minute whereas the Anova Pro Cooker has 12 liters a minute. That is a big difference and could impact the evenness. However, that probably will not matter for most people who are only cooking for two. Another big difference is the price. The Nano 3.0’s regular price is nearly 25% less than the top of the line Anova and well within line of other competitors. Overall, I think this is one best values you can get and will be an unbelievable deal if you find it on sale. Putting the Anova cookers aside , I’d like to point out how great the app is. It is simply the best on the market and the main reason I love the Anova Cookers. If this is first try in the sous vide world, I highly recommend the Nano 3.0. If you are a bit more experienced or cooking larger meals, look to some of the Anova Pro units. Bottom line, you cannot go wrong with Anova.

Wow! I love sous vide cooking and sent my friend this device last Christmas as a present. SHe stored it away as she was in the process of a move/remodel and plugged it in to use today for the first time. Seems the app now is pay to use (after August2024) and all she can do is set time and temp? What crooks!!!

    Easy, Convenient Meal Prep

Sous Vide is hands down one of the most convenient methods of meal prep, and the Anova Precision Cooker Nano 3 helps make this process a breeze. It's easy to use and setup, and you're only minutes away from getting started with cooking your meals perfectly out of the box. Along with the cooker, you're going to need a deep pot and some zip loc bags. There's an app used to setup the device and connect it to your wifi. Once connected you have a library of cooking methods and recipes presented to you which makes it really easy to cook your meats to a perfect level of done per your preference. My only complaint about the app at this time is that it doesn't have an audible timer alert to let you know when it's done. So I had to check it or look for the notification. I cooked some chicken thighs, pork chops, and steak sirloins with it. I used some simple zip loc bags and I seasoned each item to my personal taste and then sealed the bag. It took about an hour to cook each item, but the app gives you precise temp settings and time. The only con with cooking is that it doesn't shut down when time is up, it keeps the water heated to the same temp which would continue cooking the meat if you aren't keeping an eye on the app. The challenge is that it does take over an hour to cook so it would be nice if they did stop. Once cooked you can simply freeze or store the meat in the fridge for a few days. You can simply choose to heat them up with a microwave or opt to drop your meat in the pan and fry it up real quick to get a bit of a sear on it. All in all, I find it easy to use and it does a bang up job making the meat cooked to perfection while enabling you to meal prep like a champ. I would recommend this to a friend!

    Easy, Tender Results

First let me state, I am not a chef, foodie or even someone who cooks regularly. I had of course heard about Sous Vide, even tried food prepared this way at a friend’s home. I used the Anova precision cooker to prepare a meal of Filet Mignon, fingerling potatoes and mushrooms. All three recipes came from the Internet. The recipe did say the filet would come out a greyish brown color and you would want to sear it in a pan before serving (picture attached). The sous vide water bath resulted in an evenly cooked, tender filet. The fingerling potatoes came out fluffy. The mushrooms came out fabulous. They too had to be sautéed after being removed. When I sauté mushrooms they end up flat. With the sous vide they were still plump and oh so very tender, even after sautéing. Although you need to place the food in a plastic bag, it turns out it does not have to be any type of fancy vacuum sealing bag. You can use high quality (brand name) plastic storage bags. A bit of research shows, they are BPA free. You do have to get as much as air as possible out of the bag. You can do this with a water immersion technique, a video with instructions is on the Anova site. Air in the bag will cause the bag to float to the top and thus food at the top of the bag won’t have the sous vide experience. The Anova Precision Cooker is small, sits on the edge of the pot. The digital temperature and time setting are quite simple to use. You can also download the Anova app and use it to control the precision cooker.

I have been a happy user of the original Anova for quite a few years, so I had a pretty good idea what to expect and see with this newer model. In short, I could not be happier. The unit is well-built, looks good and has very clear and responsive controls. While it is not “much” smaller than the standard model, it is absolutely a bit more compact. It is just enough to make a nice difference in use and storage. You can use some smaller vessels and it takes up just a little less space when you put it away. As for performance, I really can’t say anything bad here. It is just about as easy to use as you could ever expect (the app is also great), and while it may be “slightly” less powerful than more pricier models, it can easily handle most jobs. If you are really looking to do some large-sized jobs, maybe you will want to skip this Nano, but, frankly, I think most people will be covered here. Further, I have found that it really does nail its temperatures, in terms of being precise and consistent. I couldn’t really ask for more. Honestly, I really hesitate to say anything is perfect, but this unit comes pretty close. I just really do not have any complaints. Beyond that, and probably more importantly, it does what it is designed for very well, has a good build, and comes from a respected brand in the space. As I said earlier, unless you really need more power, I think most would be very happy with this sous vide cooker.

Since the first time I have ever heard about one of these sous vide cookers, I was always intrigued. Then my Step-Dad got one and cooked some awesome dishes and I was hooked. Now I finally have one and I am soooooo thrilled. I have cooked a few different things since I have gotten it and wow, just wow. I love how easy it is to use and how simple the design is. I was able to use it with my pot with no issues whatsoever. The app is extremely convenient and makes cooking with this thing almost effortless. I love, absolutely love, the ability to search and use all the different recipes on the app as well as ad my own. It's very nice to be able to select a recipe and then the cooker itself is all set and warming up. It's super easy and that is a big plus for me. The foods I have cooked include salmon, New York strip steak, chicken breast and eggs. The salmon came out so juicy and tender. I used a simple recipe from the app. The steak was perfect and so was the chicken. The eggs I tried a couple different ways which include poached and hard boiled. Both came out excellent. I seriously love this thing and have been using it pretty much everyday. I'm definitely going to be buying the container and rack made for this cooker soon so that I can make tons more recipes.

I don’t know about you but I always seem to struggle when it comes to cooking my meats to the right temp. There is such a fine line between medium and well done that it’s hard to achieve precise control in temp management. That’s where the Anova Precision cooker comes in. Sous Vide allows you to have perfect cooking at home. The same immersion circulators used at restaurants for years are now available at home. The Anova app allows you to connect to the unit and use the recipes in creating great dishes at home. You have to have at least a 12 inch stock pot to use the cooker properly due to its depth but a good quality stock pot is not too expensive if you don’t have one already. All it takes is one recipe and you will be hooked. I guarantee you there is no better way to cook your meat at home and you will be a believer after the first bite. After cooking any meat with the Anova you can simply take it out and quick sear it in the stove. Vegetables also come out great and there are an endless amount of recipes available on the app. The app allows you to control the Anova from you phone however I seemed to have a lot of trouble connecting with my phone but I believe it is more related my phone not the Anova

I have always wondered about sous vide and really wanted to try it out for myself. I had seen many cooking ideas on YouTube, I wanted to see what the fuss is about. Now that I have tried the Anova Precision Cooker Nano 3.0, I only wish I had done it sooner. Cooking with the Anova Precision Cooker is so wonderfully easy. It is almost ready to go straight out of the box. You will need a couple of things to use this device and a couple of things are optional. You will need some sort of deep pot or container that is at least 6-7 inches deep. The clip that holds the Precision Cooker in place is fixed. You need a pot this deep to be able to mount the Precision Cooker to the side of the container. You may want to get a vacuum sealer and bags for cooking; however, this is not necessary to use this product. You can use Ziploc bags if you prefer. The big thing is you will need something to put the food in that allows you to remove the air. The food should be fully submerged while cooking. With everything in place, you will likely want to connect your Precision Cooker to the Anova app. This is available for both iOS and Android. This device allows you to connect and even control you cooker. The app is also amazing because it contains hundreds of recipes for just about any food that you can think of that requires cooking. The Anova Precision Cooker is easy to use. I started off with something simple – hamburgers. I filled my pot with water and started heating it to the right temperature. The recipe in the app told me what temperature to put it at. Medium rare has a different temperature than well done. You just pick the temperature that works for you. As the water heated up, I prepared the patties and put them in vacuum sealed bags. Depending on how big the container is, the time it takes to heat the water will vary. Once it is at the temperature, all you must do is submerge the food in the water and go. The great thing about the Precision Cooker is you are not constrained to a certain time. Having the water at a constant temperature allows the food to cook thoroughly and then stay at that temperature. So, you can cook for 45 minutes or let it cook for 4 hours. You eat when you want. When it is time, take the food out of the bag. For the hamburgers, I just seared each side of the burgers in a skillet for about 45 seconds each, and they were good to go. Cooked this way, the burgers were juicy and tasty. It was as good as a restaurant. I tried other foods with similar success. Salmon, chicken, pork chops, and vegetables were all easy to cook. You can even cook different things at the same time. You can prepare food in a vacuum sealed bag on Sunday and cook it Wednesday for dinner. It is so easy and the food tastes amazing. The Precision Cooker has changed the way I cook in my kitchen. I am amazed at the Anova Precision Cooker Nano 3.0. It has made cooking 100 times easier and the food tastes better than ever. If you want restaurant style food that is easy to make at home, I highly recommend the Anova Precision Cooker Nano 3.0. The food is absolutely delicious.

Being my first time using a Sous Vide device, I was pretty happy about how easy it was to get setup and straight into cooking my first meal quickly. Unboxing took a couple of minutes to remove the wrap on the device and get it attached to the stock pot I am currently using. I then downloaded the accompanying app onto my phone, connected the Nano 3 device to it and downloaded and updated the firmware to the device and was ready to go. I bought some bpa free freezer bags from the store and ordered some bpa free vacuum bags so I could try cooking from frozen to plate with the unit the next night. I started with a nice fresh new york strip steak the first night, simply put it in the freezer bag, dropped it into the water slowly to help push all the air out and sealed it shut. I didn't use the app for the steak instead I operated it with buttons on the device, setting up the temp and time and away it went. After the water got up to temp the device started the timer countdown, not long after it was done and I was able to flash sear the steak on both sides in my cast iron pan and supper was served. The steak was amazing, when I was told it would make perfect steaks I was a little hesitant, but it really does cook a steak very well! The second night I was able to try out a frozen marinated boneless chicken breast I had frozen the night before, I was really interested to see how well a from frozen to plate would taste. After about 2 1/2 hours in the water the chicken was ready to be taken out and seared and served, creating yet another delicious meal perfectly cooked, this thing really is a great device! pros: Perfectly cooked proteins. Easy to setup. Easy to use. Quick cleanup of the unit, with a small footprint for storage. The App: The app is actually pretty great, you can control the temp, times, start of the device. You can also choose from predesigned recipes that will auto program the device for whatever recipe you pick, which is pretty cool. cons: I haven't found any yet, the device is honestly really easy to use, and does exactly as it was purposed for. It seems to be really well made. If I had to imagine one thing that might be a problem with it in the future, it might be that I don't see an easy way to clean the inside of it. We have pretty bad hardwater in my neighborhood (alot of mineral deposits), I could foresee the unit collecting calcium etc on the coils. I am going to guess that I can use a little vinegar water in the stock pot for a cleaning routine every so often to help remedy this possible eventual buildup. Other than that, this device is great, and I can't wait to use it a lot more as time goes on. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a high tech and well made soux vide device.

    Easy to Use Immersion Circulator

This is a great immersion circulator. It is actually very simple without a lot of parts or complexity. The set up was super easy and I just pulled it out of the box and plugged it in, then found it in the app on my phone and it got everything working with pretty easy step by step instructions. As for the device itself, it’s pretty easy to understand when you have it in your hands. The clip on the side easily attaches to the side of a pot and you can get up and going in minutes. I’ve used it on a large and medium stock pot as well as a fairly large roasting pan to do a bit more food. Most of the time I just used a ziplock bag that I filled the submerged under water to push out the air before I sealed it. It worked great with fish and steak. I also used it to make soft boiled eggs by just putting the eggs in the pot with the cooker and they turned out great. Like any kitchen tool, the results depend more on the quality of your ingredients and your recipe than the tool, but it does take a bit to figure out what time and temperature will give you the best results for what you are cooking. However, the cooker itself works wonderfully. I even did a cook where I left a probe thermometer in the water to test how accurate the water temperature was. It wasn’t exactly on, but always within 0.2 degrees and it was close enough that it would not affect your cooking and could be accounted for by just being too close or far away from the cooker. Overall I’m very happy with it and plan to even get a vacuum sealer to try and do a few fancier recipes.

I had been told by folks that have used a sous vide cooker that I would love the meals that come from it. Well I have to say that the meals are quite amazing. This does come with a downside and that is time. Let's start with the quality first. I tried two main dishes, steaks and chicken, and both were amazing. Unlike of methods of cooking, there is no overcooking of a dish. Steaks were tender and flavorful and the chicken breasts were juicy! Although cooking with it is simple it does require some steps that you may not be used to. For me this was a big change since I have been on an air-fryer instant cooker kick for some time and been pretty happy. Those are usually ways to cook a meal that comes out pretty good in a short period of time. Sous vide requires a bit more time and planning. You will need either zip-top bags or a vacuum sealer, I already had the sealer so no big deal, a larger pot and time. for the steaks I think total time, prep to plate was about 1.5 hours. Once the cooker is done, I still seared the steak in an iron skillet for the final step. What did I get after the effort? A steak that was better than any steakhouse I have eaten at! The meat was tender and juicy on the inside and crips an flavorful on the out. I was actually able to cut the steak with my fork!!! This is not the method I would use to cook dinner on a nightly but for the times where quality is paramount it will be my go to!

The Anova - Precision Cooker Nano 3.0 is a new approach to a classic French cooking called Sous Vide - or under vacuum. Traditionally, this style cooking uses vacuum-sealed bags of food, thus the name, cooked in water to perfection. This aims to lock in flavor and moisture while ensuring safe temperatures for the food. Anova's approach gives you amazing control by adding traditional Sous Vide cooking with modern technology of WiFi and smart apps. Additionally, you can use zip-lock style bags instead of needing to invest in a vacuum sealer unit. We found this product to be surprisingly easy to use, even for not having personally cooked using this style before. We had an idea of what food should turn out like since we have eaten Sous Vide cooked food before. The controls are easy to use, easy to see, and the WiFi connectivity meant we did not have to stand over the proverbial "boiling pot" while it cooked. PROS - Anova's technology, innovation, and design - Easy to use touch controls - Connectivity and app - Ability to use vacuum-sealed or zip-lock bags for cooking - Fits most any pot CONS - None at this time

New way to cook for me

If you are like me you've only seen or heard of sous vide cooking on those TV cooking shows. I always thought "Why in the world would I need to use one of those things?". Boy was I wrong to think that way. I asked a good friend of mine that is a pitmaster at his BBQ restaurant how one of his smoked briskets would freeze. Would it still retain the same texture and flavor. He told me to grab a sous vide and I'd be good to go. I asked another friend that uses one what he did with them and he's done a lot... short ribs, steaks, chops, eggs, vegetables... So I grabbed the Anova Nano to try for myself. I bought a bulk pack of thick pork loin chops a few weeks ago and froze them in pairs. After a pair thawed out I seasoned with a popular pellet grill company's Rosemary Garlic prime rib seasoning and vacuum sealed them. I downloaded the Anova app from the Apple store to my iPhone (Android version also available off Google Play). Pairing was simple which also included connecting the Nano to my wifi. By the way, the app has some great recipes and cooking guides depending on what you are cooking. I grabbed my biggest stock pot, attached the Nano, filled up half way between min and max fill lines and fired it up. I set the cooking tempurature and time using the app. 140°F for 3 hours in the "hot tub". After the cook was done I pulled the chops from the bag and dropped them on the grill for about 3 minutes each side to give it a decent sear. The results were amazing. So tender and juicy. I had cooked a pair of those chops on my pellet grill a month ago and they were a bit chewy but the Nano sous vide chops were amazing. Next up was simple hard boiled eggs and using the app cooking guide they came out perfect. Oh... almost forgot... when using the cooking guide you can actually use the guide to automatically set your temp and timer on the Nano. Great way to maximize the functionality of the app. I've got a 2" thick bone in ribeye in the freezer I plan on cooking soon. Can't wait!!!!

So I've always kinda been intrigued by the sous vide cooking method but never took the plunge. Because like most people I've relayed my experience using the Anova Precision Cooker Nano 3.0 to, I always assumed it was just "boiling the food in a bag." But actually using this tool, I don't think I'll really go back to cooking like I used to! For setup/use, it is really simple, obviously, remove all the plastics and labels from the device, read up instructions in the manual or app. It has a screw turn clamp to secure it to you pot or container. It does work best with a taller and thicker side wall pot/container as far as securing the product to container. It has trouble with my 8qt Martha Stewart stainless steel vs my 6.5qt Ninja NeverStick pot as the Ninja has slightly thicker sidewalls. But my only real issue is that it refuses to connect to my WiFi, it always states that it can't connect due to incorrect password, even though I know my password is correct. I mostly use it for meat products like steaks, pork chops and chicken and every time I am impressed by how just juicy and flavorful everything turns out. Obviously, it can do other items like veggies, seafood etc. But there's something about how the flavors of your seasonings and aromatics penetrate the food and makes every bite that much more enjoyable. So much so, that I haven't used a sauce topping or dipping sauce with my meats since. Yes, it's another step or two in the cooking process, but I feel like the results speak for themselves and makes it worth it. I mean you were going to prep/marinate anyway, but that flavor was just going to be on the top layer at most, why not get all the flavor throughout? I'm in no means a chef or great cook, but I do well and never had a complaint and nor will I say this Anova product make you a great chef, but used properly, you can turn out some pretty great dishes with ease.

Works great! Good price. Doesn't have Wifi, but it's not needed.
