I'm not a good griller. My steaks always came out either raw or overcooked. This thing has made me look like a master chef. Just vacuum seal the food, put it in the sous vide bath for however long it takes, and it's done. The app has tons of recipes that tell you the temperature to use, and how long to cook the meat. But the great thing is, you can't overcook it. The Anova keeps it at that perfect temperature. You'll want to sear the steaks on a hot skillet after they're done with the sous vide, to give the meat that "grilled" look. But otherwise, it's so easy.

The Anova Sous Vide WiFi is a great tool to prepare meats ahead of time especially if that meat is beef steak. Excellent results every time. A new way of cooking for me with minimal finishing and clean-up. You can stop watching and waiting for right time to get the steak perfect. Water bath cooking is perfect every time. With WiFi, prep your meal and leave. Start the cooking from your smartphone from almost any location.

My husband is the cook in the family and we have used this with pork, fish, and chicken. How easy and no mess! The only problem is we haven't been able to attach it to the phone with wifi. We are working on this with the company.

The Anova is very easy to use. It is a great tool to have in your Kitchen. It has given us the juiciest and tender chicken breast and very tender meats evenly cooked.

The best feature is dinner is ready when you are. I also bought one for my brother. Works best if you insulate the top of the pot.

So, I had been looking at the Joule and a couple of others for a long time, but Best Buy has a pretty limited selection of sous vide cookers. I had some rewards points to burn, though, and the Anova reviews on this site seemed very favorable, so I gave it a go.
First, you'll need a good sized pot or other container for it. It doesn't look like it in the photos, but this thing is huge and heavy. Like, seriously massive. My first thought was that I had nowhere that I could easily store it, aside from the retail packaging. You'll need a container that will fill to the minimum water level and won't tip over easily. I had exactly one thing in the house that would work, which was a giant chili pot. My usual Calphalon 6 quart stock pot was way to short. But both the cooker itself and the clamp feel really sturdy and well made.
The controls are simple to use and it was easy to get it connected to the app and on my wifi network. The app itself is...fine. It focuses on giving you recipes, where the actual sous vide cooking is only the first step. That's fine, but it was more of a hassle than it should have been to just find a recommended time/temp for a given cut of meat. You can still set it manually in the app without going to the recipes, fortunately. The whole app experience needs a big overhaul in terms of the user experience, IMO. But it works and kept a strong wifi connection, so I can deal with it.
The first time I used it, it got up to the set temperature quickly and held it perfectly for about an hour (luckily the minimum time that I needed), but then it just stopped heating. It was still circulating water, so I just kept topping it off with hot water from the kettle to keep it close to the correct temperature until we were ready to eat. After that, it never worked again.
However, it did produce probably the best pork tenderloin I've ever made at home. Well cooked and juicy, even though the temperature wasn't 100% consistent, as it should have been if it had worked correctly. If it had not stopped working, I'm sure it would have been absolutely perfect, so there is that.
So, I looked for solutions online before returning it and saw story after story of people on their 3rd or 4th replacement unit. I ended up returning the Anova and just buying the Joule elsewhere, as it had glowing reviews from pretty much everywhere. If you get a good unit, I'm sure it'll serve you well and provide you with countless perfectly cooked meals. I just don't personally have time to keep trying until I get a good one.

Not only am I a gadget queen, I am seriously challenged in the kitchen. So I'm all for any gadget that will make it fun and easy and that'll take the guess work out of cooking for me. First of all, it takes the guess work out of time and temp and it makes cooking exciting and fun. So far, I've cooked salmon, chicken, asparagus and broccoli with it. The salmon and chicken were so moist and the veggies were perfect. It stops cooking automatically when the timer goes off and it keeps your food warm until you're ready to eat. And you can control it wirelessly over bluetooh or wi-fi. Now I'm excited to cook and I look forward to trying new recipes. I can't wait to cook my first perfect steak - medium, medium well!!!! My only regret is that I hadn't heard about this thing sooner. OMG ...what an awesome tool!!!

I have had so much fun using this cooker, made strip steaks, ribeye, burgers, and brisket. Steaks and burgers in about 2 hours, did the brisket 48 hours, awesome. I added five degrees to what i typically do the meat because for my family burgers sous vide to 135 was too rare but 140 was perfect for medium cook. I think its just because its the same temp top to bottom and we are just more used to firmer burgers. Steak to 135, same for brisket which btw was more like ribeye steak than brisket. Cut part of brisket in 1" cubes and grilled with sauce for burnt ends, wow, turned out so good. Havent done chicken or pork yet, still playing with beef. 5 gallon bucket worked great for the brisket, covered the bucket with plastic wrap and use ziploc food saver sealer to seal the meat. Good stuff!

My husband and I received this model as a wedding present in 2017. Since then, we have bought two as gifts for family members and they are just as appreciative. Easy to set up out of the box. Not a huge learning curve other than finding the right temperature to set. It is something you have to plan around using, as it takes time, but beyond worth it! My family who we have gifted them to live in the Midwest and miss out on a grill in the cold months, especially love that they can make amazing steaks indoors. Overall never been disappointed with a meal we have made. My dad has made some drool worthy dishes as well.

Can you cook good meals without a sous vide cooker? Yes.
But once you've used one of them to make a perfect medium rare steak, will you want to? Probably not.
The precise cooking temperature measured to a tenth of a degree makes sure you aren't overcooking something in the water baths. The wifi app has all the necessary temps and times built in, so once the water hits the proper temp, you drop the food in and walk away. Things you must have to make this worthwhile: 1) a vacuum-sealer for foods you will be cooking, and 2) a large stock pot or water tub. I did five 1.5" inch-thick steaks last night in a large stock pot, all cooked to a medium rare, and finished them in a cast-iron skillet for about a minute on each side. Everyone raved their steaks were perfectly done.

I ordered this Precision Cooker after reading a lot about how Sous Vide works and Anova got it done right! The app is very intuitive and walks you through how long to cook and at what temperature to get your desired doneness. My first cook on it was a 10oz filet and it was the juiciest steak I have ever tasted! 45 minutes in the water took it to 133 Degrees then a minute on each side searing on the stove top and it was a perfect Medium to Medium Rare!

First time user of Sous Vide, but I have been interested in it a while. I got to use this for the first time and I am really impressed. The physical setup was extremely easy and took seconds. The App and Wifi setup were also very easy. It ended up taking about 3 minutes to find my Wifi and connect. Once connected I could operate the unit from my phone.
Setting water temp was as easy as spinning a dial. Water got to temp quicker than I expected.
We ended up trying New York Strip steaks in this first attempt. Getting them into bags and into the water was quick and easy. I wish they would include a few clips that would allow you to attach to the side/top of the pot you use (recommendation).
1 inch thick steaks took just over an hour, with NO attention need to be paid to them. When I wanted to eat we just pulled them from the bags. The color of the outside of the steak is not like they are when grilled, but the inside was AMAZING. We cooked them to medium and there was perfect color from top to bottom.
We can not wait to try other stuff now....chops, chicken, etc.

Build quality is above average, almost excellent, for it's price. Very nice and useful app. I recommend this cooker for beginners since this is a really nice learning tool for cooking. It is a bit larger than I thought but easy to use with or without the phone. The device is great.

Such an easy way to turn a bad cut of meat into a tasty, fork-tender masterpiece with very little effort.
For example, you can go to Kroger and get the worst-looking strip steak or even a skirt. Add salt and pepper, seal it in a vacuum bag, then put it in a pot of water with the sous vide cooker for 1-4 hours at whatever temperature you prefer your steak - and viola! The steak comes out cooked through and through at whatever temperature you desire and no more.
You like rare, medium, well-done - it's perfect. You only need to finish it by searing the meat either in a skillet or on the grill for no more than a minute just to give it the look you're used to. Otherwise the steak tastes great but looks unappetizing because it was cooked to the same temperature all the way through. That means the outside comes out looking like the inside.
Pork, Beef, Chicken, vegetables, whatever.
Just make sure you get a Foodsaver vacuum bag sealer and have a large pot (at least 3.5 gallons). It could be a stock pot or (better) a clear, rectangular, polycarbonate container like the ones made by Rubbermaid. I believe the maximum temperature is 210F degrees, so these things are appropriate.

The Anova wifi precision cooker makes it near impossible to overcook. The app gives you good guidelines on how to prepare most things and even a few recipes to try. Beyond the app there are tons of videos and instruction available on the net.
Get yourself an Anova, a big pot, maybe a cast iron skillet for a nice sear at the end and you got all you need for perfection with ease.

I was very skeptical (to say the least) about this purchase when my husband suggested it. A close friend praised this item. We tried it.
Now I don't want a steak cooked at home UNLESS it is cooked with the Anova Precision Cooker (water bath in a bag)! It is cooked to temp and both the app and the machine alert you it is completed. Pull the steak(s) out and sear in on the grill or in a cast iron skillet (per husband!) Now I like my steaks just almost well done so that is difficult to do without making them dried out --- not any longer! Cooked through and so moist!
Another pleasant surprise is how well (and easily) done is a batch of Crème Brûlée!! Husband has experimented with orange, lemon, vanilla, caramel, and our favorite Red Hot Cinnamon! It's made in single serve size mason jars, lid & ring and put in the container with the Anova. Haven't had better at a restaurant!
I whole heartedly recommend this device over any of my other small appliances.

Awesome Cooking Tool

We bought this primarily as a tool for cooking steaks, although it does have many other uses. If you obsess about cooking the perfect steak, you should give a sous vide tool some very serious consideration. Be aware of a few things: 1) it's not cheap, 2) it's not fast, 3) it won't save you any steps, and 4) you still have to "finish" your meat (i.e. sear it) after using Anova. (In other words, cook steak with Anova, remove it, toss it on a ridiculously hot skillet or grill for a minute per side). This is NOT a time saving tool or something to make your life easier. It's a tool to cook things to the absolute perfect temperature, within less than one degree, every single time. I can cook my steak to exactly 131 degrees, or 135 degrees, or any other degree, with zero risk that it ever goes one degree above the number I choose.
In addition to steaks, we have cooked salmon, pork chops, and chicken breasts and thighs with the Anova. Everything comes out perfect, every single time.
I would highly recommend the Anova. We're seriously considering buying a second one for cooking vegetables. But again, this is not a time saving gadget; it's a tool for people seriously obsessed with cooking.
