Awesome Set! But The Packaging Could Be Improved

So this set is great! It includes all 3 versions of this great film in glorious 4k resolution. This is a particularly great title for the format considering that it was filmed on (I believe) 70mm film, meaning that the remastering is a true 4k transfer and not a simple up-conversion like some films. That said, I wish the packaging were improved. The packaging is GORGEOUS, but once you remove the plastic, the outside portion of the packaging makes a c-shape around the case and is just loosely glued to the main packaging with that clear snot-looking glue, so it's not really designed to be salvaged for display purposes. I just don't like that this portion of the packaging is meant to be disposable since it is what contains the film info and 4k banner. I took some clear plastic and glued it to the front of this to make into a sleeve, which could have been easily done when this was designed. A minor complaint, but there it is. The trifold design is also fairly flimsy, so making this sleeve like I did really helps to improve the sturdiness of the packaging when on the shelf. Take a look at the pictures and decide for yourself, but I can't be the only one who feels this way right?

I never got around to seeing this movie, so I had to pick this up. One of the best movies of all time. It has a star studded cast and they did a fantastic job on this. The movie is intense, sad, heartbreaking, scary, and very eerie. It is gorgeously shot and looks amazing on 4K. You can’t tell it was made 40 years ago, the picture quality is that good! I just noticed also, that if you turn the case upside down Marlon Brando is the face you see the reflection in the water.

I'll start with stating I have only watched the Redux cut, but I am looking forward to seeing the theatrical and "Final Cut" as well. I suppose that's one of highlights of this set - it includes three versions of the movie along with some special features. This set is made up of six BD discs! Two discs are in 4k UHD (one has the final cut, the 2nd has both the theatrical and redux on one disc). Then two regular BD discs that make up 1080p versions of the three movies. The final two are regular BD discs that include the special features and the documentary about making the movie called "Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse." Considering the price this is going for, it's a really good bargain. I think the main highlight is the remastering of this movie and being able to view it in the highest quality presentation available (4k blu-ray disc). They made great use of Dolby Vision without going overboard. It's hard to believe this movie is originally from 1979. There are many great reviews online of the picture quality of this remaster, so I would encourage anyone to check those out. The packaging is a bit odd with top and bottom portions overlapping, but the artwork is great (see pictures). I would recommend this for any fan of the movie or to showcase their home theater.

I love this movie, I love the features and the fact it is in 4K and I love the visual graphic of the case but this is a cheap case. This will get dinged up or fall apart in a year. Why would they not put it in a real plastic thicker Blu Ray case? Very foolish decision.

Have continuing issue: purchased Microsoft 365 on October 22, 2020 and couldn't get it loaded. Took to Geek Squad and after several weeks they couldn't get loaded becuase Microsoft had my old email address which needed to be changed. They couldn't change it, and, after ten or so attempts, I couldn't either. Went back to the Squad and they advised me to change URL and try again. That worked but not with my original purchase. Question, could you refund my original $69 purchase? Overall, the guys did a good job, but I'm saddled with a Microsoft 365 I don't need.

This is an excellent 4K release and comes with tremendous amount of extras. It is a 6-disc set, which includes the following: Disc 1 - Apocalypse Now Final Cut (4K Ultra HD) Disc 2 - Apocalypse Now (Original 1979) & Apocalypse Now Redux (4K Ultra HD) Disc 3 - Apocalypse Now Final Cut (Blu-ray) Disc 4 - Apocalypse Now Original (1979) & Apocalypse Now Redux (Blu-ray) Disc 5 - Special Features (Blu-ray) Disc 6 - Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse (Blu-ray) For some reason, the standard blu-ray discs for the 3 versions of the movie have compression issues compared to the previous blu-ray releases, so if you own this movie in previously released blu-ray set, I'd recommend holding on to those as well. Despite the compression issues on the blu-ray, which the 4K discs do not have, this set is still worth for the 4K qualities and the special features discs.

As a Vietnam era vet, I always appreciated Coppola's costly, against-the-flow attempt to portray the insanity that was Vietnam. I was also appreciative of the studio for cutting the original theater version to a length that my butt could last in a movie seat when I first saw it. I feel FFC should finally be happy with the stunningly remastered 4k, an hour of deleted film, and hours of behind the scenes and commentary. I spent all weekend watching the 3 hour, 4k disc One, taking lots of emotional and butt breaks. The PBR ambush scene was so vivid that I stopped and rewatched several times... which is cool... no do overs in combat. However, there are opportunities to avoid pointless wars. So join a vet and sit down with the version of your choice and give it some thought. FFC's expression of Heart Of Darkness truly is brilliant, though it seemed as though it took less time to read than watch :-) . This set is 10X the value of the original movie, sans the buttache.

Okay, I must admit up front that my wife thinks I am crazy for buying this superb 4K collection because I already own DVDs of "Apocalypse Now" and "Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse" and a blu ray of "Redux." Maybe it was my curiosity about what Coppola could do returning to this film 40 years after he nearly went crazy making it. Maybe it was the terrific price ($12.99 on sale) for the entire set (6 discs of every possible iteration!), including just about every extra you could hope for. Regardless, I bought it and I am not disappointed. The "Final Cut" is actually a little shorter than "Redux" and, in my opinion, benefits from the trimming and tweaking. If you like this film but have yet to own a copy (or two), this is the set to buy. Will there be a "Final Final Cut" next decade? Who knows. Will I buy it? Probably.

This 4K Blu-ray release of Apocalypse Now is loaded. And boy, do I mean loaded. It includes the Final Cut and the Redux versions on both 4K UHD and Blu-ray, along with plenty of special features on separate Blu-ray discs. The set is a total of 6 discs and includes a digital copy for you on-the-go streamers. Now for the really good stuff. The video quality on this is superb. The amount of detail now is awesome, and extremely high quality. This is a a brand new 4K restoration from Lionsgate, and the movie looks the best it ever has, and I would say it's faithful to it's original theatrical release. There's plenty of original film grain in the picture. Noise reduction was kept to a minimum, making this an excellent 4K transfer over all. The Dolby ATMOS sound is very impressive. Expect plenty of ground-shaking bass, clear dialogue, and surround sound to immerse you in the movie, just like if you were watching it in a theater. It's like having a 35mm film reel almost. Lionsgate did an amazing job with this release. If you have a 4K TV, 4K Player, and a good surround sound system, or if you're a fan of this movie and old-school cinema, this is a must buy. For about 20 dollars, this is definitely worth adding to your collection - and can't go wrong with that. Highly recommended.

As a filmmaker, I was blown away by the Apocalypse Now Final Cut 40th Anniversary edition. The updated sound and visuals bring new life to an already stunning film. The added footage and scenes add depth and complexity to the story, making it even more captivating to watch. The film's pacing and structure are masterfully done, creating an immersive and unforgettable experience for the viewer. The themes and messages of the film are still incredibly relevant today and are explored with a nuance and subtlety that is rarely seen in modern cinema. Overall, the Apocalypse Now Final Cut 40th Anniversary edition is a must-see for any filmmaker or film enthusiast looking to experience a true cinematic masterpiece.

This movie captured my imagination the first time I saw it. It gave me a insight into the Vietnam War. The look , the feel, and the the absolute realism made an impression on me the same way Star Wars did for science fiction. This is still for me the go to film when watching movies related to the Vietnam War. To say that it was ahead of it's time is an understatement. There is nothing dated about this epic film. The scenes depicting the conflict of war, that incredible sound design, The Ride of The Valkyries, one the best war scenes ever depicted on film. It is an honest portrayal of the war. Nothing today even comes close to it. The 4K blu ray has a serious uptick in picture quality, You notice it right away when comparing to the 1080. The sharpness, detail in skin tones and landscapes are a marked improvement over the 1080. The now famous sound design is all there too. The helicopters, the explosions , and the music is all on par with the previous blu ray. I'm saying that because the sound on the previous blu ray was incredible.

The bargain price for three versions of this critically acclaimed war epic is a no brainer for fans of the film. Having owned the VHS, two Laser Disc versions and the "Redux" DVD, this new 4k edition is head and shoulders above all previous incarnations. Although it doesn't have the slick sheen of new movies it's still a beautifully rendered remaster. Film grain is retained as expected in a 35mm print and as such, it enhances recapturing the theater experience. Night scenes have good black levels, color is well saturated where required and contrast levels, especially where flares and flashes briefly illuminate faces, look spot on correct. The soundtrack strikes a wonderful balance with the visuals. Although the surrounds aren't aggressive there's sufficient ambience enveloping effects during crucial scenes. Finally, after decades of inferior reproductions, Apocalypse Now has been given its most proper and most complete reissue.

So close to being perfect, with exception to being a bit drawn out. I had never watched "Apocalypse Now" prior to today, but Best Buy had the six disc collectors set on sale for $10 on Black Friday - I couldn't resist. One of the best $10 purchases I've ever made. My favorite art form has to be video games, because most of the time the immersion is unmatched. I say most of the time, because this movie was unreal. The big budget war scenes are some of the best in cinematic history. I really felt like I was watching war footage. Perfect mixture of action, drama, and comedy. (SPOILERS AHEAD) The aforementioned drawn out scenes took place at the French plantation, and Colonel Kurtz' temple. I understand that scenes were cut down for time in other versions of the film, so I'll check those out next time.

The UHD video presentation here may be matched only by "2001." Colors are vivid, the contrast is outstanding. The low light detail is excellent. War looks truly scary in this film, even more than the older blu-rays. The smoke and varied flares, rendered with precision and dread grace. The sound mix is even, detailed, with depth that works your speakers well. Explosions, music, foley work all are distinct, defined, and dead-on. One hopes that the "Star Wars" films, "Jaws", and "Indiana Jones" series get similar treatment. A first class release. Much like the "Apollo 11" blu-ray, this is, perhaps required viewing, to demonstrate the platform. The film is thrilling, challenging, and engaging. View the new "Final Cut" with confidence. The pacing is just right. I won't be revisiting the other versions.

The new 4K UHD bluray of Apocalypse Now looks nothing short of spectacular! I have seen this movie many, many times over the years, but this was like watching it for the first time all over again! A dramatic upgrade in both picture and sound, this set actually includes ALL THREE versions of the film in full 4K with Dolby Vision HDR and Atmos sound, the original theatrical version, Apocalypse Now: Redux and the new Apocalypse Now: final Cut--all for this one great price! This is really an unbelievably great Value. The newest cut (the Final Cut) is my favorite cut of this film yet. This is the version Francis Ford Coppola prefers himself and I agree with him completely. If you love this movie and have a 4K TV and 4K bluray player, you owe it to yourself to get this disc! You will not be disappointed!

Francis Ford Coppola is desperate for your approval. We now have three different versions of Apocalypse Now--when we only needed one. Both the "Redux" and "Final Cut" versions are way too long and preachy and dilute the message of Coppola's original masterpiece. I think the main reason he created thid "Final Cut" version is because his "Redux" version had a long scene that would anger the #metoo people. And he couldn't face that "tarnishing his legacy." Enjoy the original 1979 cut of Apocalypse Now on 4K and enjoy the many supplemental materials--including Hearts of Darkness (one of the best documentary films ever made). My review would have been two stars (or fewer) for the longer versions of this film that Coppola keeps making.

Apocalypse Now looks amazing in 4K with Dolby Vision HDR. Truly, you have never seen the film like this. The Dolby Atmos surround ensures you have never heard the film like this. It is quite an experience. When the napalm drops, you feel it. This package is quite robust. Six discs, including two 4K UHD discs. One with The Final Cut with director introduction. The other, with the theatrical and Redux cuts. Then there are the Blu-ray discs with the three cuts of the film and the extras, including the Heart of Darkness making-of documentary. While this is not a film I would return to often, I do like having it in the collection and this is an amazing presentation. And at the current price of around $20, it is an incredible deal.
