||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My mother & I recently moved into a town home 6 months ago and I have the Asus AC68U I received from T Mobile for free but retails for $200 and very feature rich. Everything worked, even had a hard drive connected for Time Machine back ups. However, my mother is a notary and prints a lot and my printing use has gone up lately as well but our THREE HP printers would always fall off the network and disappear but still showed it was connected. For months & months I tried different things from simple reboots to manual IP addresses to each printer but to no avail. Enter Apple Time Capsule 2TB. A VERY easy set up although I had to use my Macbook Pro to set it up. Not as feature rich but definitely less maintenance. I tweaked a couple settings and so far everything is running smoothly & the BEST part is ALL 3 printers work flawlessly now but only after tweaking the settings. The auto back ups are also worth the extra $100 as a standalone 2TB external drive is around the same price and only adds clutter in the end. Only unfortunate part now is having a spare high end router although I may decide to use it as an extender for the upstairs part of the house. I HIGHLY recommend tweaking the settings for optimal performance.

Buy it already :O)
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Kicking my self for not buying this sooner, life is much easier now that I have this. I spent more time taking it out of the box than I did setting this up. Has a great range and works great. Less than 5mins to set up.

Perfect Mac backup device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Plug, Play and forget about it. What could be easier than that?! Recently needed to evacuate due to a nearby brush fire. Grabbed my TimeCapsule and other inportant items and I'm out the door.

Not yet ready for prime time!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased the latest generation Apple Airport Time Casule to replace an aging Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz router on August 2. Optimum Online cable also replaced our cable modem at this time. Our decision to purchase the Apple Time Capsule was mostly made to support the many Apple wireless products in our household and based on the highly positive online comparative reviews. Set-up was a breeze thanks to the Aiport Utilty program, however, we were quickly frustrated by the lack of stability in the wireless connection and the limited wireless range. We spent many hours on the phone with Apple Care attempting to resolve these issues. The Apple Care tech confirmed that the set-up was correct but could not explain why the range and connectivity was so poor. In the end, the Apple Care tech recommended that we exchange the router for another Time Capsule, which we did. The range seemed to improve, but connectivity continued to be an issue. The system kept dropping the connection at various locations throughout our two story home, and required that we re-enter the password to reconnect. Our home is approx. 3000 sq ft, but the old Linksys G router was never an issue with connectivity or range. It was slow, but always very stable and reliable. After numerous attempts to find solutions to the Aiport router issues, we finally gave up and returned the Apple Time Capsule to Best Buy, (Best Buy was very easy to work with, no issues about the two returned Apple routers). Yesterday we purchased a new Linksys EA650 dual band AC1750 wireless router, also from Best Buy. Set up was very straight forward, and the range and connectivity are superb! The Linksys router is located at one end of the house on the first floor and we can reliably get a stable wireless connection on the opposite end of the home, on the seond floor. Although we continue to be big fans of Apple products and Apple Care service, we are extremely disappointed with the Airport Time Capsule.

Good solution for Apple ecosystem
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For those in the Apple ecosystem, this is a good solution to provide wireless (and wired) access to your network while also providing constant backups of your valuable Mac data.

Fast and easy to setup
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a fast router I have gotten up to 867 Mb per second transfer rates. It does seem to be able to beam form too.

Best backup for Mac's
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Good: Installation with my iMac was seamless and fast. This new generation Time Capsule allows me to stream without buffering. Time Capsule backups happen in the background without any assist. Wifi signal reception is 100%. The Bad: The 2TB Time Capsule replaces a 6 year old 1TB Time Capsule which was fried! While installing El Capitan O.S., a time capsule restart was required to reestablish its presence. Apple instructions said "unplug the power to the time capsule and plug back in". What they did not say is unplug at the wall only! .....NOT AT THE BACK OFTHE TIME CAPSULE. Unplugging at the back of the time capsule (Setup Guide p. 18) produced an arc of power surge with a visible spark. This killed the time capsule. A simple ON/OFF switch could have prevented this along with a caution not to unplug the cord at the time capsule. Also, the time capsule can not be opened for inspection or repair without destroying the case. Don't do what I diid and you will love your time capsule for years to come. P.S...the instruction which came with the time capsule, Setup Guide, is about 3.5" square printed in a font so small it can barely be read with magnifying reading glasses discouraging the use of the instructions by all but the most diligent users.

Good Range & Speed, Some Limited Features
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a new MBP retina with the 802.11ac wireless. My old 802.11n router was a few years old and having periodic dropouts anyway. So, I wanted to upgrade my router. I picked the Mac Airport Time Capsule because: it has the new "ac" protocol to use against the MBP, had the larger antenna with "pointing" feature to improve range, was from Apple (typically high quality), and had an integrated backup solution (2TB is plenty!). After about 3 months I am very satisfied, but will note some limitations in this review. Key point: I did a signal strength test with my MBP at 5 locations throughout my 3200 sq ft house using my old and new router. The Time Capsule was better by 4-5 dB on average (translates to more than twice the range at the same received signal strength) and that is pretty significant, and more importantly I notice the difference when on MBP or iPad upstairs. The better signal strength generally means faster connections if you are further from the router. It has also been reliable (not one dropout I have seen for 3 months) and has ample backup drive space. Now on the flip side, my old router had configurable passwords for the 2 and 5 GHz bands that this router doesn't have. That is disappointing as I want to reserve 5 GHz (and the ac capability) for the parents devices and not the children. I can't do that since one password controls both bands and is not configurable. Also, I can't tailor the QoS (quality of service). This is important so that when you have many devices in the household, you may sometimes want to reserve better bandwidth for the parents and limit the kids. When you have 5+ devices going, you will lose a lot of speed if you can't do this, even at 50 Mbps coming into the house. So, I am hoping Apple reads this and might provide some firmware updates that can provide these features (yeah right?).

EZ Set-Up/EZ Operation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty much shook out of the box and worked. While default settings would probably have worked fine, it replaced an ancient Apple router and the change-out needed to be "seamless" (the network name needed to remain the same), so it required some easy-to-customize setting changes so I wouldn't have to run around re-educating a pile of connected stuff. Probably the most challenging part was FINDING the Airport program on the Mac - it IS there, just not really obvious to the non-regular Mac user. Apple also has an app for iPad that can manage most of this device as well. Works with Mac, iPhone, iPad and even plays nice with Windows, Blackberry (don't judge me - my Playbook from Best Buy still works) and the wireless printer. The neighborhood has two dozen Wi-Fi routers competing in the 2.5-Ghz band - while 5-Ghz doesn't have the signal penetration 2.5 does, between being the ONLY one in the selected channel and a small 2-bedroom place, 5-Ghz works just fine (don't turn off the 2.5-Ghz radio, though - my printer didn't do 5). The 2Tb model was chosen over the 3Tb model as there was no cost benefit in the jump from 2Tb-to-3 as there was from 1Tb-to-2. Of course, having the Time Capsule drive in this device makes Mac's Time Capsule back-ups effortless (although connect the Mac directly to the Ethernet port if you can for the first back-up - it takes quite a while via WiFi). After configuration and the first back-up, Time Capsule back-up via WiFi becomes something you don't need to worry about - and few people REALLY back-up their computers like they should, so this is a GREAT reason for buying this with a 2Tb drive. Time Capsule back-up for iOS is not presently supported. I read where some non-Apple apps exist, but apparently one is supposed to back-up your iThing to a Mac and THAT back-up will be backed-up to the Time Capsule. It seems you can use this as a NAS device for Windows back-up. I use a different method for backing-up my Windows devices and have NOT tried this with the Time Capsule. This MAY NOT fix a "takes forever for Websites to load" problem - while this helped a LOT to speed things up around the house, what REALLY helped was changing the DNS server (Comcast/Xfinity's is NOTORIOUSLY awful, as it turned out). If this is YOUR problem, you might want to see if switching DNS servers helps FIRST.

apple router & hard drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.over the years have been becoming big part of APPLE's eco-system...older high-end router (not apple) was not always staying connected and not sure why...as well as signal strength...went with the airport time capsule (has hard drive) rather than the 'express or extreme' simply for personal taste...this router does direct it's signal towards your device so strength is very good and seems not to vary but slight...picked up the signal 2 house's away...i'm pretty sure the 'airport extreme' would be as good (no hard drive)...so far has been fine but have only had for a short time...one hiccup...did lose wireless connectivity but after reboot it has been fine...probably should have done that 1st thing after set-up but forgot...hope not an issue later......nice to have my printer work wireless (if your printer will do that)...i absolutely like 'apple' products...user friendly and they simply work...set-up went flawlessly and easy...way way easier than my older 3rd party router...have read some internet 'negatives' but personally think mostly might be issues with their older hardware or they're not computer savvy...i'm pretty picky and do like it......

Great Product from Apple
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router is absolutely fantastic; It greatly exceeded my expectations. Not only did it drastically expand my range and speed (going from a Motorola Surfboard g/n modem/router combo), but it is incredibly stable and easy to use. I can now use mutliple devices simultaneously without interference or lag (up to 50 according to Apple). Plus, the 2.4ghz frequency can be used at the same time as the 5ghz, which means my girlfriend can use her iPhone 4S on 2.4 while I am enjoying the faster 5ghz frequency my iPhone 5 can utilize -- my previous router made us choose one and stick to it (guess which one I was stuck using...). And it could be just our imaginations, but speaking of iPhones, both of us have noticed that our phones appear to get an additional bar of service in our home when connected to the Apple Airport network (hers is Verizon, I'm AT&T). Maybe it's an Apple device thing, or maybe it's wishful thinking, but we both noticed the boosted cellular signals right away... Regardless, the WIFI signal now reaches every corner of our one story three bedroom house without signficant degredation, which is something my Motorola Surfboard never even came close to acheiving. Two final positive points about this router: First off, you can run 3 wireless access points simultaneously; 2.4ghz, 5ghz, and a 2.4 guest access point that is not part of your home network. Secondly, you can use this router for airplay via a 3.5mm headphone jack in the back of the device that allows you to plug in computer speakers, or, in my case, a 3.5mm cord running to my home theater, which allows us to stream any source of music (pandora, iTunes, Spotify, etc.) from any device in the network (laptops, ipads, iphones, etc) to our living room sound system

Great with PC, Linux or Mac
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.....on what you are looking for! This is my second Apple wireless access point. The first still lives after 7 years of use, but I upgraded to get more spead. I use to run other brands, but they would all suffer untimely deaths after a year or two. I've been an IT guy for 16 years and have worked with all brands of access points there are. If you're looking to geek out and tweet every possible setting bad flash different firmware every other week, then go with the competition. If you like simplicity and absolute reliability, while giving up some tweekable settings, go with the Apple wireless access points. I fix stuff all day long, so when I come home, I like things to work. My coworkers prefer to geek out, but at the cost of having to reboot their equipment all the time and get support calls from their family on a weekly basis. I prefer the functionality and hands off nature associated with most Apple products...It reduces stress. It's true with most Apple products, so it all depends on what you're looking for. I have had absolutely zero compatibility issues with my PCs or Linux systems and have done nothing to "add compatibility". Not sure why some have reported Windows incompatibilities, but that's likely a driver issue...

Time capsule Best Buy.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was looking at the apple airport, and saw the time capsule. Was not sure exactly what it was, so I asked the associate what it was and the difference between them. Explained that it was a router and hard drive in one for backing up Apple devices. So purchased. Setup was idiot proof. Worked perfect with laptop, but an issue with iPad. No Apple app to use hard drive. App for airport, but.... Found a couple apps that worked on pictures but not much else. For backing up laptops and computers, perfect, iPads, not so much. The speed of the wireless side is impressive, video, music, tv news on apps, great. Is it Worth spending the money for? if I knew before what I know now, yes I would still buy it, even with the iPad issue. anyone interested in home "cloud" backup, this is the way to go. One piece unit for router and drive is well thought out and soon it should support iPads better.

Loving the decision to buy Time Capsule
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I grew increasingly frustrated with weak wifi signal depending on where I was in my house. I decided to get a separate router after reading lots of posts about the generally poor quality of wifi from routers provided by cable companies. Boy has this router made a difference. I now have good wifi throughout all rooms plus on my deck (which was barely worth trying before). I can verify that the ease of setup and stability Apple is known for is correct. I also had no backup before and that brings some peace of mind as well with the Time Capsule.

Best Router
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have experienced routers in the past mainly netgear they worked great but required a lot of manual updates and the connectivity was hit or miss as well as any Comcast gateway or modem. I've been on the fence about the apple router since most of my devices are Apple and months and years of research and reading reviews on routers I needed something strong enough to connect all my devices including 2 smart TVs and 3 gaming systems phones tablets Apple TV and a wireless printer I finally got one this device works like a charm. Not having to reset it due to connectivity issues and all my devices have a strong signal and connect seamlessly, I suggest getting the 2-3tb time capsule if you want to save any valuable info from an iMac or MacBook that might be lost if they crash or go out given the fact that they don't backup to iCloud, and make it an easy transition to a future upgrade. Glad I got it and I caught it on sale saying that anything Apple will have you shell out a few bucks, but money well spent Apple always delivers with the latest tech and quality design, best router I've owned so far so sad to find out that Apple will no longer make anymore routers. Will highly recommend to anyone even if you don't own any Apple products overall great from hardware to software and design.
