This Apple TV is great for streaming shows, viewing and editing photos, and listening to music. So fun to use. Videos and pictures are beautiful. Worth the extra money over other streaming devices

While I did return my unit, there is a lot to like about the Apple TV 4K. Apple updated the device to match the content source so that it was no longer outputting everything in HDR. The Apple TV 4K as of this writing does support Dolby Vision in some apps, but not all. In fact, I think HDR support in general is lacking in some apps. But, this is not Apple's fault, as developers have not yet submitted apps that support it. However, for apps like VUDU, you cannot even purchase or rent films since Apple wants you to buy from the Apple Store. Same for Amazon. You get Prime Video only. So, the walled garden is in full effect. However, Apple does have a nice catalogue in their store. Redeemed HD codes upgrade you to the 4K HDR versions for free. And 4K movies are the same price as the HD versions. No one else is doing that.
The device itself is nice. It is difficult to discern it from the non-4K 4th generation version unless you look closely at the bottom for the ventilation. The remote is slightly different and I find that it tracks better than the 4th generation remote. It seemed more accurate for me while navigating the menus than the 4th generation, which was too sensitive, IMO.
So, why did I return it? I just didn't need it. My LG OLED has smart apps. The LG WebOS is very good and the apps are current. Everything is responsive and they all support 4K HDR with many of them also supporting Dolby Vision, including VUDU, which is my 4K HDR streaming source for rentals now. So, I couldn't justify the cost of the Apple TV 4K for my set up. I don't have the breadth of apps on my TV that the Apple TV 4K includes, like The WB app, or Crunchyroll, for instance, but I can buy a $50 Roku Stick+ for that, or continue watching them via my 4th gen Apple TV on my 1080p HDTV.

That Glow!

Worth the amount I paid for it.
The main menu screen has this halo-esque glow about it. The images are smoother. The quality is better. Yes, you need a 4K to operate this.
When turning it on, you will need the remote to initially operate it as you can also download the remote app. When CONNECTING to a WI-FI in a different location ex. Traveling, hotel wi-fi, change of access...you NEED the remote to operate the box. The REMOTE APP WILL NOT WORK.
The remote will not work through screens, like if we FaceTime and you use the remote from where your at through the screens, because Bluetooth doesn’t work that way people. This should be obvious but alas, you’ve been warned by the guy who Knows much about technology but thought for some reason that would work.

Apple TV vs Amazone Fire TV

I like the Apple TV better if you have the Apple eco-system...meaning, IPhones, Macs, Airports, etc. They work very well together and allow information and sharing of music and photos easily. The only way to access the Apple App Store. You can still access your Amazon Prime Acct through an app on Apple TV, but not vice versa.
If you don't have Apple eco-system, I'd consider the Fire TV. Same features, access to nearly all of the same apps (except Apple App store).
I like the Fire Remote better, though the Apple one is chargeable.
I feel like the connection to wifi is much better with the Apple TV than with the Amazon Fire TV. Which is saying a lot considering the Apple TV is connected to wifi and the Amazon Fire TV is wired via ethernet. I don't experience any lag or buffering with the Apple TV. But again, I have the Apple eco-system.

Great viewing on a 4k TV. Integrates well into my Apple network to stream music to our Livingroom receiver. Quality product and talking into the remote to enter passwords made it quick to set up. Very happy with this purchase.

Very easy to use which is what I love about this product. Purchased for my parents who are very tech illiterate and even they can use this!! Only complaint is the price - I think it’s a little spendy.

Super fast, easy to use, puts everything conveniently in 1 place when looking for shows/movies, and it even notifies me on my phone when a new show is available! I also like how my phone can be used as a keyboard and remote.

Best 4K Streaming Media Player

This is the best 4K streaming media player around. With the ability to add apps and use Siri voice commands it’s easy to use and can be used for more than just watching streaming media. It’s more expensive than other players but you get what you pay for.

Great streaming service hub for those accustomed to Apple products. Interface is clean and pleasing, controller is close enough to a track pad it feels familiar, and the 4k has the picture looking great.

Apple gets me AGAIN

I feel like I’m stuck buying Apple TV’s. I’m vested in Apple and will never be able to break away. From MacBook, phones, iPads, AirPods, Apple Watch and my 3 Apple TV’s, (including this one).
I love using iTunes and buying/renting movies, using Apple Music thru my surround sound are two reasons smart tv’s don’t always do it for me.
But I wish they’d come down on the price. With Roku’s and Amazon products (fire sticks?) entering the market around $25, Apple isn’t staying competitive and sucking every dollar out of loyal customers. My smart tv has Roku which has the Apple TV app but it doesn’t allow me to play my music.
I’m a sucker... Apple gets me again and I’m happy with the purchase

Great User Interface, 4K, Atmos capability—this has it all. I originally bought one in 2018 and just bought my second one after identifying a need for similar functionality in a new home gym. Highly recommended.
