I was hesitant at first simply because of the wireless aspects and not sure if you can get the image quality with a wired system. Obviously you will get smoother video quality and higher resolution with a wires system but the Arlo Pro cameras work great in my mind for their purpose. I see so many people complain about such little things that they fail to understand the limitations with wireless technology. The installation of the base station and the cameras was extremely easy to follow and do. Most questions I have had, since i bought the system, were found in Arlo Netgear forums or other websites. The rechargeable batteries are the way to go as they are easy to recharge. I was able to place the cameras in locations that were easy to access from an upstairs window making retrieving and reinstalling easy each time. The half sphere magnetic base is perfect to keep the camera as close to the exterior wall to avoid attracting attention. I would post a screenshot of my setup, but for security purposes I decided not too, so instead here is a single camera shot to give you an idea of the quality you will see. Replay is easy from the cloud and accessing from your phone or tablet is simple and convenient. If you want to make the batteries last longer I would decrease motion sensing to 60% otherwise it records everything that moves. Living on a busy street would make it difficult to maintain a long battery life.

Nice clarity on the camera in high definition mode. battery life is very nice for the time of use before need to recharge. You will need to play with sensitivity to adjust it from going off for every car that passes. recommend to read INSTRUCTIONS AND CONTACT SUPPORT TO SET YOUR SENSITIVITY. you MUST hit save for each change you make in settings for it to take effect otherwise it will not save your settings. my post will make more sense if you purchase and see it live. definitely worth the purchase and what you get instead for the money. super easy install and very clear to roughly 30 to 40 feet to still discern who it is on camera. any further you only know its a person and actions but not able to discern who it is on camera from far distance which is expected.

Simple Setup and Great Supporting App

I actually now own 9 of these cameras, between the exterior and interior of my home. Pros - Ridiculously easy setup. Video images are very clear. Audio is amazing. The supporting Android and PC apps are awesome. I love the way you can set modes to only activate certain cameras based on your needs. The 100% wire free is the biggest reason why I tried these to begin with. Cons - there is a 3-5 second delay before the camera notifies you there is movement or audio outside. But we are talking wireless so that is expected. I look back through my cloud video and see the camera picked up when (for example a cat) is well into the zone. The distance the motion trigger picks up is only 20-30 feet from the camera so I recommend considering that when purchasing. I enjoyed the first cameras so much, I simply added more with that distance in mind so the exterior of the property was covered accordingly. Security lights are recommended since the night vision (which is really great) can only see so far.

I already had the Arlo camera, which I am using to supplement a traditional CCTV camera. So, this was a natural choice when considering an add on camera. We live in a place you aren't supposed to have installed cameras. Arlo was a good choice for a supplemental camera, Arlo PRO seems to address some of the issues with the original release. The good part about this, is that it is wireless, completely, and can be installed anywhere within range of the base station radio signal. WIth Arlo, you must use their base station and that plugs into your router. This is not a WIFI camera, but the good news is the base has a tremendous range. I have a townhouse, and the cameras are out in my garden, and above my front door, and both communicate clearly with the base. So, this base station thing is not a bad idea, in fact I like it. It is needed because the cameras transmit slowly back, to conserve battery. My biggest problem with the original Arlo (which I bought, returned, and after awhile, bought again) was the battery life and that the batteries are expensive. I've found that I use the original Arlo camera above my front door for alarms for motion between midnight and 5am. But with the Arlo pro, because it is rechargeable, you can have it recording all the time. And you can adjust the recording time beyond the 10 seconds that used to be the limit. WIth recording hundreds of clips in a couple of days (lots of activity in our neighborhood) I get about 5 days between charges. I'm not disappointed with this, because there is so much activity it is recording. Some annoyances are that the motion can be slow to activate, so the thing that triggered it is out of view, like a car driving by. But for the most part, this is a non-issue. I've found that at times, I get some blocky picture on playback, and I don't know if this is because I have the original base vs. the new base. Again, mostly a non-issue. Mostly the annoyances are a non-issue, but you should know of them. The app is one of my most favorite apps. And the features of this system seem to be endless - I'm someone who loves to fiddle with programming and I've been exhausted playing with the settings. So, you can do so many things with programming, it should fit everyone's needs. So, back to the one above my door - I have that set to sound a notifcation on my phone and email me, with activity, midnight to 5am, 7 days a week. And the Arlo pro does the same. But with the Arlo pro, because the battery is rechargeable, I have that in the garden looking out at my cars and walkway, and it records 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, and only sounds an alert after midnight. Again, this does alot. And it is amazing. I've been impressed enough to keep it, and the original one too, but they have different uses for me because of the battery vs. the rechargeable battery. And they both work fine for what they are. These are wide angle lenses, so please know that you will get a wide angle view, but not very long lengths....and the IR light should be bouncing off of something or else if just shooting off into the darkness with nothing to bounce off of, will yield almost no picture. The only thing I would like to see, is a solar charger for the Arlo Pro....which I'm sure they will come up with at some point. Arlo gives you 7 days of free cloud storage, and thank you for that, with my thousands of video clips that I have stored on the cloud, with a rotating delete of the older ones to make room for the newer ones. They do have a cloud storage paid plan for longer storage, but I'll know in 7 days if I need something or not. Of all the wireless cameras, Arlo is my favorite. Without the ability to install something more like a commercial CCTV system on our house, this is as good as it gets for the average homeowner.

Prowler and avoided car break in

I placed an add on camera in the garage and found a prowler who was intending to break into my car. I called police for the whole 20 minutes that the prowler was deciding to break into my car. They arrived and checked the property. I later learned that the prowler broke into several cars that weekend, and was armed. He was working with a spotter in a team. I posted the video on facebook to alert the neighbors who had just returned from vacation 20 minutes prior to the prowler's arrival. Just an eye opener for us all. 911 was on the phone with me the whole time since very few people have had footage to email the police department. The flash lights of the prowler standing behind the camera interrupts the motion detector light which is invisible. That light interruption activates the video feature and time stamps the occurrence. The cell phone alert is priceless since this also occurred when I was on a travel assignment. The prowler was using my empty garage as a place to sleep after a night of armed robberies at convenience stores during the night.

Are pro is a vast impediment from the original. I am currently using both. The pro has better video quality, rechargeable batteries, two way audio, built in alarm and better motion detection. Though the pro is a big improvement the motion is not immediate there is lag still, these a delay on the two way audio and the app to play in real time is still slow. I have the camera set up to see who's at my door before I open it but sometimes to take to long to load and they leave. Overall if you are looking for a hassle free, easy installation and wire free set up then this is your unit and get the pro over the regular arlo.

I currently have 6 of these cameras in and around my house which I mainly use for viewing purposes when I’m away from my home or to check on my children when I’m outside doing work. The battery life is great. The picture quality is pretty good but could be improved but not bad overall. The two way speaker works very well aside from the annoying 3-5 second delay which you’ll miss many responses from people if you don’t make them aware of the delay. The motion and sound detection alert work like you’d expect from a low budget camera picking up some false movements and sounds as well as missing some movements and sounds all together especially when they occur further from the camera. Also when movement and sound does occur the camera has a delayed response to start recording which will cause you to only pick up the middle or end of what caused the movement or the sound and for things that move through the camera sight faster it won’t even pick them up at all when the recording alert kicks in which you’ll check back on your video feed alerts only to see nothing at all which will happen quite frequently. The night vision works very well too. In short it’s a very good monitoring device and a very good intercom system but if you have a need for a very good security system you might want to spend a bit more money.

We bought Two sets of Arlo Pro base station-and-4 cameras (that's over $1300.00) One set for home, one for the shop. I signed up for premier service, so we could watch all the cameras, remotely. Both bases stations quit working just out of warranty. They are really cheaply made. You can't get any real help from Netgear support (yeah, they own them) They only have tech support, they don't speak English, and they can't solve problems. They can't even issue a refund for the unused part of the monitoring plan. I have made several calls, and so far have racked up nearly two hours on the phone. Not only did they not issue a refund, but they have CHARGED OUR CARD! According to their website, (https://kb.arlo.com/1215141/How-do-I-change-or-cancel-my-Arlo-subscription-plan) you get a refund by changing your subscription to basic, and they will issue a refund to your credit card in 1-2 business days. I took a screen shot of the message on my account (see below) that stated this. Good thing I did, as I never got an email, nor a refund, and on the phone they tell me they don't give refunds, and that I need to call my credit card company. This is not my first issue with Netgear. I had a poorly performing router, once, too, and was never able to get tech support to help with that, either. Had I known they owned Arlo cameras, I would not have bought them. Do yourself a favor, and try to reach tech support before you ever buy any product. Also see how easy it is to get help with billing issues before you buy. You won't buy this product, if you do. The cameras were really neat for the short time they worked, but it was a very short time for the price we paid, and now, I have to get extra charges off my credit card, and not just the refund we are due,

Great features such as motion-sensing, two-way speakers, wireless, long battery life, and night vision. Because I travel often, I rely on cameras to keep an eye on my home. For example, when someone is at the door in DC, the cameras see the person, and I often answer the front door from another state! Note that this model is sold without the siren, but another model can be purchased with a siren as a starter-kit. This also works with Amazon Show, so I can see my home from the convenience of Alexa's screen. Highly recommend!

We now have three Arlo Pros outdoor security cameras around our house. We love our Arlo pro’s because they have great videos. We can actually make out peoples faces. The alarm activations/notifications are adjustable so there’s not so many activation. The battery life varies. On one facing the front of the house near the front lasts about 2 1/2 months. The side gate to our house, the Arlo camera there is 1/2 full after 3 months.

    Annoyed

Bought the whole system 5 months ago. I am writing a review because there is clearly an issue of some kind with the system as a whole. The high traffic camera records at 11 second intervals a majority of the time. So I can have several videos within 1 min. Sometimes there will be a video that is over 1 min and then another video under 1 min but at the exact same time of day. Last time I checked there are only 60 sec in a min so how could I have 2 videos that equal over 1 min at the same exact time of day? It is bizarre and not very reassuring that the equipment is accurate. One of the low traffic cameras has been going off as I am writing this. The motion is consistently recording videos back to back without any motion. I turned off the motion and just to see what would happen turned on the audio only and sure enough it has continued to alert me that there is audio now. It is a clear and calm outside. This has been happening regularly and it extremely annoying. I don't even check the alerts anymore because they are false nearly everytime. These cameras do trigger for the rain and sometimes heavy wind (I have the arlo skins on them as well). The battery life is ridiculous! The high traffic camera dies in about a week. Every week having to get out the ladder to take it down to charge it. The low traffic camera is slightly better with about 10 days. So the alerts that are false and the constant charging of 3 batteries makes this system a pain to deal with. If you can stand all that the quality of the video is pretty good. Zooming in, not so much.
