Decent Set
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I don’t do reviews often, but I might as well for this because people really need to know what they’re getting into. To start, if you’re not attentive to sound, these are great on both PC and consoles. If you’re like me however, you’re going to find this lacking for the price. Granted, maybe the set I have might have been defective (this was my first time owning an Astro product so that may have very well been the case.) Anyways, on the nitty and gritty Comfort: So comfort on this guy is actually fairly nice, honestly not as comfortable as my Kingston HyperX Revolver from a couple years back; (their memory foam technology is really great) but it’s still fairly comfortable for an over-ear design and the headset is also pretty light. Now with the extra mod kits you can purchase from Astro, you should probably be able to reach the same level of comfort that Kingston has in their Revolver and other similar models. Design: For gamers like me, this is pretty much what you can expect from gaming focused headsets so the design is par for the course. The two notable things about it’s design however if the fact that with the extra mod kits from Astro, the set is basically fully customizable to suit whatever your preference may be, and, while it may be hard to adjust when equipped, the band for adjusting the distance on the cups for people with larger heads has a nice and sturdy spring mechanism that is very reminiscent of a piston, which is pretty cool in my book. Connectivity: For those accustomed to Astro, you should be well aware they give you pretty great options when it comes to connectivity on the mixamp included in this kit. -You have Optical for your two most popular gaming consoles (and PC if you want to use virtual 7.1 with Atmos and bypass the, fairly terrible, built-in surround option on the mixamp/DAC) -Auxiliary for a traditional analog stereo setup if you have bypass mode on and don’t want the digital stereo off the USB -A secondary aux input for streams if you’re trying to mix-in audio from a mic or speakers or whatever and have individual control over that audio stream (via the Astro Control Center app on PC) -And lastly, a daisy chain feature in tournament scenarios where you’re trying to share lagless audio with teammates on a team-oriented game (such as League and Overwatch.) Audio: Now here’s where the A40s really drop the ball for me (though as mentioned, my unit may have been defective.) So the audio isn’t necessarily bad (in a vacuum at least), its just really tinny compared to other high quality sets such as HyperX’s older Revolver models. Honestly if I hadn’t had a history with extensive work with audio on home theater systems and I didn’t have my older Revolver as a reference point for comparison, I probably could have been satisfied with the A40s. Like I mentioned, the tinny sound isn’t necessarily that noticeable without a reference and the surround performance is fairly good when running off your PC’s virtual output for it than the Mixamp/DAC’s, but once you notice it...well, that’s all you’re going to notice and it’s gonna bug you until the end of time. I shall stress again though I might have had a defective unit, though from reviews I’ve seen from professionals, nearly all of them had admitted that the A40s do have a slight tinny sound, particularly when being used on the Mixamp Pro’s digital surround instead of on bypass into the PC’s surround. My set just seemed to have it on everything despite being in surround or stereo. Long story short, the 40s are not bad if you’re not accustomed to high-quality audio, but for a headset that standalone runs around $130-$150, it’s definitely not worth the price tag and I would personally grab a cheap set of $20 Sony or Apple wired headphones/buds over these. The Mixamp on the other hand is fairly nice when you ignore the built-in Dolby surround on it and hook it up to a different set of headphones. I personally tried it with my older Revolver (this is quite a common theme here. Great Jove I really love that set) and the Mixamp did well to even out the highs with the mids on my Revolver thanks to it’s customizable EQ on the Astro Control Center. Combine that with being able to push a bit more bass off the Revolver thanks to the Mixamp being able to have bass boost support off the sound settings on Windows PCs ultimately resulted in allowing me to enjoy some more oomph out of my Revolver. However, the one issue I had on the Mixamp is it doesn’t really get that loud for watching movies or shows unless you turn on Loudness Equalization for it in Windows where you find the option for bass boosting. This though means you need to go into properties under bass boost and crank it up just a small notch for it to stay consistent with performance on that end, and it also kills your highs which makes the setting terrible for music that emphasize volume dynamics, making what was once adrenaline-pumping transitions become flat. This is a somewhat minor issue though because you can always toggle the option depending on what you want to do at any given point in time, it’s just annoying to do consistently when you have to traverse multiple different windows to do so every single time you want to adjust it based on the content you are consuming. Ultimately, it’s not a bad set (assuming the copy I got is indicative of what the device is supposed to be like), but it’s definitely not something for the attentive listener.

Posted .Hello KaneD! We're sorry to hear the A40 TR Wired Stereo Over-the-Ear Gaming Headset with MixAmp Pro TR Controller are not meeting your expectations. The MixAmp Pro TR Controller should definitely give you broader options for your sound, including Dolby Audio sound, a 3D gaming audio experience, and broadcasts Dolby out. If you haven't done so already already, I would suggest downloading the Astro Command Center software, allowing you to play even more with you sound settings, and even create your own. Here's the link: https://www.astrogaming.com/en-ca/support/software.html. At Logitech, we strive to make sure our customers always have a great experience with the products & services we make, so we definitely appreciate your very detailed feedback. Thanks! - Mathieu from Logitech

Wouldn't Buy for Xbox series X
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wouldn't buy for Xbox series x. You have to update firmware for it to work. Once I figured that out, the mic wasn't working. I had to do a hard reset with the Xbox to get it to work. Then it worked for a day then had to do another hard rest because the mic wouldn't work. Also for the price I would like for them to have Bluetooth for connecting to my iPhone, but you have to use an aux cable, that's kinda a thing of the past. They had Great sound though, and they were super comfortable. But not worth the headache for how much they cost that's why I gave it two stars. I'm returning these and going to order the turtle beach elite pro 2's off Amazon seeing how those work out.

Overpriced for what you get, which isn't much
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm writing this and then returning them. I had them for 1 day and realized they are NOT worth the money I paid. Pretty standard, I'll start with pros and then cons. Pros: Good audio quality(I'm an audiophile) Mod kits are cool Mixamp is really useful Cords included are good quality Fairly easy to setup(for PC) Very comfortable to wear The audio quality is really good. Bose good. I have a pair of 700s and they're comparable to them. You can adjust the equalizer on the app easily enough. The mixamp is useful for streamers or pro gamers. The headset also comes with an optical cable that you can plug into YOUR TV INSTEAD OF YOUR XBOX SERIES X, LIKE A SMART PERSON. Its still a good upgrade from some cheaper headsets. Cons: Cables are the kind of rubber that sticks to things Cables are too short for anything other than PC gaming Headset had to be fully expanded to fit my head(personal but might be too small for others) Stereo sound and not 7.1 like it claims And the nail in the coffin, No sound canceling at ALL. First thing I noticed was the cables were quick to catch on other cables, my desk, and itself. Kind of annoying for a desktop player. The cable length was fine for me, but if I hooked this up in my living room to my ps4 it would be too short. The headset barely fit my head. Now, I have a large head size but its not overly large. Some people might have issues getting it to work. It's not 7.1 surround like it claims. Sounds great but for the price it should be 7.1. Now, my biggest issue, the sound dampening. It doesnt exist. You hear everything outside of your headset. I have an AC in my studio and heard it just as clear with or without these. To put it in perspective, my Corsair Void Pro had more dampening than these. Now you can get a mod kit to be sound cancelling. For 60 more bucks. A HUGE disappointment. I guess if you want to spend 310 for a decent headset I suppose you could. But I would recommend something like the Corsair virtuoso headset. Or even spring a little higher for Bose 700s. I wouldnt recommend these headphones to anyone who can afford them. You can buy better ones for cheaper.

Not worth it unless for a P.C
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Headphones sounds great the quality is good but as far as using the amplifier for my head on my Xbox it doesn’t work. I’ve tried everything even using a P.C to update it but it just wont work so I have to use it through my controller.

Good for P.C. Not for Xbox
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The look of them is really good and the feel and weight contribute to the aesthetic of the product. The physical setup was easy however the software setup was difficult and unsuccessful. Their customer support strung me along and pushed my issue to four different departments and still didn’t resolve the firmware issue for compatibility.

A40
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Comfortable, great sound quality. The headphones dont come with the correct software to make them compatible with new gen consoles and they dont offer the software needed to fix this issue. You can find the software online but its 50/50 weather it will actually work or not.

Wont assign to xbox profile
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound quality is AMAZING. This is a great headset. But unfortunately even after updating the firmware, I could not get it to link to my profile on my Xbox One X, it would continuously say I had no microphone. Then after multiple attempts of the unplug and plug it back in, it wouldn't register even being connected to the xbox. Super Bummed I have to return it, but I looked online and that seems to be a common problem with this MixAmp. But the cheaper one with the controller plug doesn't have that issue supposedly.

Way too loud for others in room
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Terrible. If you really need to purchase this set, then you may want to purchase additional sets for everyone else in the house. These were purchased to block out room noise while video gaming. However, everyone else in the house can hear everything, I mean everything is heard from this headset. It’s so loud that it’s almost as if the headset isn’t even being worn. I did give it 2 stars because from what I can hear (when standing in the room and not actually wearing them), they seem to have a very full and robust audio.

Way too small
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The new Astro headsets are considerably smaller than the previous generation. The headband is too small and I was tugging down on the ear cups to get them over my ears. The clamping force is much higher also. Even if the headband was longer, the headset had already given me a headache from squeezing my head too hard. On a positive not the MixAmp works great and the headset do sound great (like the previous generation).

Poopy engineering
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These don't really have a louder setting. Everything feels minimum to me. The WORST thing about this product is they have a specialty screw driver needed. One of the screws fell out and now the headphones are terrible to try and game with. It's really a screw that is probably known to come out and has a special screw driver needed for it. I'd never buy these again.

Kind of a big let down
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Even though they are comfortable, and put out decent quality, it doesn’t even compare to headphones half the price by Hyperx. For the price, I expected much better sound quality. The mixamp was also a pain to set up, as well as the app you have to install to do anything equalizer-wised. Returned without a problem. Best Buy customer service is the best

Needs Update
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The best-wired headset and maybe the best headset overall according to the review. Unfortunately, I couldn't use its capabilities due to a lack of software support. I was not able to use the Mixamp Pro TR. I tried updating it with a Macbook air and didn't function. Other people in different forums have issues updating it. The headphones are comfortable 5/5 stars. It has expensive customizing features that I was looking into but since the amp doesn't function, I returned it.

Decent headset
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product needed a firmware update to work through my new Series X and when connecting it to a controller there's always white noise. Although I hope when I get it updated it'll work, but for now its.. Not that great. Definitely comfortable and durable though!

Not worth the money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The headphones are made of very cheap sharp plastic materials. Cumbersome in line mute and no mic swivel to mute. Ear pads are extremely cheap quality. Adjustability is stiff and is made for someone with a very small head. Sound quality was just ok. Better than earbuds but on par with a thirty or fifty dollar headset and those are usually about the same build quality. Mixamp I didn't try. I am sure it would have worked fine but it was a nice to have for me not needed. The box itself is where you get the feeling they put most of their money into. As a footnote, I think we received a used set as well. Wires seem poorly wrapped and the plastic case that holds the equipment was deformed.

Not worth the money
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I bought this headset because I needed something for both my Xbox X and PC. I did not want to have to keep switching headsets back and forth. The reviews said that it was easy to use and had great sound quality. That is the farthest thing from the truth. First off setting this thing up is a headache. You have to use the command app and Dolby Access to get the sound setting close to what you want. After plugging and unplugging every cord until it is correctly seated just so the headset will register on your device. If you play single player games. This will work great for you. The surround sound is amazing. If you play pvp….it’s a nightmare. Even with the surround turned off you can’t hear sounds properly. Everything is distorted and it sounds like foot steps are miles away. I play war zone and siege and literally get walked up on and never hear them coming. The build quality is nice but after bourse of searching the internet for answers I just don’t think this headset is worth the money and I will be returning it.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sound is pretty good. 8.5/10. However if you have a bigger head this thing presses into your skull and will make you cry out in pain. 2/10 for comfort.
