I purchased one for myself about two years ago, still works great with no problem. Friend of mine took a look at them and really liked them. This second pair is a gift to him for his BD. He’s been having it for 5 months and he is enjoying them. No problem with the headset what’s no ever. Pros -Comfortable level is great. I sometimes play 3-4 hour sessions with no problem. -Head cushions don’t make my ears hot like other headsets do. Major plus -Audio quality is awesome mostly play shooters and have no problem pin pointing directions of the shots. -Setup is quick and simple even if you don’t follow the directions it’s pretty straight forward. -You can customize your audio settings by plugging in your hub to your computer and downloading the Astro app to customize your levels for a more personalized experience. I have done this for when I play online shooters compared to when I play adventure games. -If you are using this to play a good amount of distant from the screen it’s great long wires and will have no problem moving the Hub. Cons. (Most are just preference of mine and not really a big issue on the product) -Wires that comes with the device I feel are extremely long. Should have came with maybe a second wire with half the length. As a gamer most of us have our setup and play a few feet from the screen or setup. -Only comes in one color, wished they really had more color options. Also maybe released a few limited edition such as a halo, battlefield, COD, something different besides this just one color. -Noise level coming out the head set is pretty load if you have the volume 60% up. People around you can pretty much hear all the chatter. You can purchase a Mod kit that helps with this. -Mod kit most store that has this headset for sale don’t have the mod kit. It was a pain to try and get one myself at the time of purchase. Overall the quality of the headset is great. If you don’t mind having the wires compared to the wireless version than it’s really awesome product. With a wire Product no need to worry about battery levels so that’s a good thing.

I waited a very long time to get these headphones and the Mixamp, mainly because of the price, but they are so very worth it! The surround sound is amazing when play FPS and the mixamp let's you mix the game sound and chat sound on the fly as well as change to 4 different sound profiles (all which are configurable with the desktop software available from the website. I'd like to address a few issues that people seem to have problems with , well with the Xbox version anyway. First off, the 'tinny and echoy sound' The default sound profile is pretty good, but tweaking it makes it perfect. Yes at first it does sound a bit TInny but I easily adjusted that out. IF there is too much echo for you, it's not really echo...it's actually the surround, try playing without the surround turned on and that will take all of it away. It is easily turned off with a single button on the mixamp. The second major issue is the delayed echo of your own mic and voice . I have tried a combination of mixamp, no mixamp, chat adapter, no chat adapter, astro 40 head phones and two other pair, Razors and Steel Series, they all produce the same delay and echo of your voice, even with side tone (mic monitoring) turned off. Sometimes it's there just for me, sometimes it's there just for people I'm chatting with, sometimes for both and sometimes for no one. Best I can tell it is a problem with Xbox Live, or party chat when used in conjunction with in game teams where team chat is available. When using skype to team chat, the echo is completely gone. These are fantastic headphones, and well worth the price. However, be warned that their customer service is pretty lousy. It's hard to get any information off their website about any issues. You will have to email them with questions or problems. Thy do respond to emails. It just feels a bit of a cop-out to have zero information on your website about the problems listed above, or any solutions for them, when it is obvious that SOOooo many people have this issue. Other wise, if you go into this eyes wide open, you won't be disappointed!

I was sceptical of spending $250 for headsets because i thought it was a gimmick plus just having purchased the recently release TurtleBeach Stealth 600 Wireless headsets 3 weeks ago. The TB600 sucked, staticy sound, no real sense of virtual SS. The Astro A40 have great custom EQ options that you can sync/share, sounds are great and loud and the virtual surround sound feature is awesome which was something I couldn't detect with my TB 600 headsets. I can actually sense sounds from behind in FPS games (or any 3D game of that matter) and can pinpoint locations of sound. These are kind of comfortable but hurts with glasses for long sessions. I guess it depends on your head shape and glasses. The inline cable that runs from amp to headset is kind of short. I sit like 4 feet from my TV so its not a big deal. I do recommend these headsets if you are willing to spend at least $150. The extra $100 is not too shabby and worth it. I couldnt believe how real the virtual ss works. I was hunting for a good headset that can pull that feature off well for a looong time and finally came across a pair that delivers. Go buy these awesome headsets while you can becauase I will stick with these for atleast another year.

I tourney game 6 to 14 hours a day. Literally. And i have tried the very expensive and the mid range priced headsets. And this is the best one of them all so far. I've tried wireless. And aside from the Turtle beach Elite 800x Most have low volume and connection issues you have to constantly deal with . I had the 800x for 3 years and aside from minimal connection issues mainly bluetooth. They were the 2nd best. I decided to try wired and my main needs are. LOUD, Surround sound and Ability to plug a 35mm input up to my laptop or mp player to play and hear my music. This Astro a40 covers all of these well. I had my fist pair for a year with no problems then i started having issues with the top connection ports. As they hang and drop out of the mixamp box. I guess over time the bending effects the ports. So i had issues connecting. Had the warranty and grabbed another pair. Now i will place something under the wires to support them from bending down. I hope this works. If you dont mind the wires. This headset is super loud and clear Decent in comfort. Durable. And most important. Works consistently without resets and unplugging and plugging. If you don't mind the price. These are overall very very good and maintain consistant performance and durability.

I tried the Arctis Pro with dac and without question this headset beats that hands down. I often game and for the first time ever I could hear footsteps of enemies from around the corner. It was insane! they are comfortable - which the Arctis Pro were not. The headset turns on at the push of a button on the mixamp. Turning it off and returning to the original sound source (t.v. - speaker..etc) is as easy as turning off the mixamp - so simple. The cord is long enough for me to stand up and take a few steps. The sound is incredible. You will not regret. Also, you can change out the side panels of the headset (update colors - get a leather set and so on) and you can move the mic from one side of your face to the other - easily! It cuts out background noise very well. Lastly, the software is simply. You'll have to change the voice setting because it's too quick to cut out sound from the background. It will inevitably cut out your voice. But changing the sound setting to 'night mode' removes that strong 'noise gate' they have up at start. The software comes with 4 presets – one is tournament – that’s the best for gaming. It also allows you to create your own presets and even mess with some advanced equalizer/frequency settings. It’s a great pair. You won’t regret.

The Astro A40trs are phenomenal. They’re real comfortable but if you’ve never used over the ear headphones you will have to get use to them. The first day or so of using them your ears will get soar after a few hours if you’re not use to this type of headset. The sound quality is just what you’d expect from Astro. Set up is easy, and the mix amp adds even more customization. Allowing you to adjust the over all volume and game to chat ratio at a hands reach. Also with the a40s you’re able to buy a mod kit for 50-60$ allowing even more performance! In my opinion these are the best wired gaming headset on the market for a reasonable sale price of 200$ Now there is one shocking downside to this headset. After a weeks use I noticed that on the outside of the ear cuff (the part that’s shaped like a u and connects the headset to the ear cuff) the paint had already started to chip. Which is a minor issue but if u have ocd like me it will bug you. So I reccomend just setting them down on a micro fiber towel. I am very gentle with them so I have no idea how they already started to chip. I can return them but I have to return everything and I have the mix amp and wires all where I want them tied and taped down. So it’s just not worth it for me. Hope this review helps you with your purchase.

If you can deal with the wires, this headset is the BEST headset I've ever used! Headphones - They're big, but sit light over your ears. I have gauged ear piercings, and the cups still cover my entire ear. Comfortable for hours of play at a time. Sound - The audio on these are so crisp and dynamic, for the first couple of months owning them, I kept taking them off mid-game because it sounded like my stereo was still on. The really open sound they provide feels like you're really in the game; no claustrophobic, head-hugging, muffled feeling from this set. Mixamp Pro - This is the main reason to spend the money on this product. The optical input provides a crisp, accurate surround sound experience that lets you hear every detail in perfect orientation. There are various profiles you can use, or plug the Mixamp Pro into your PC to load custom EQ settings. I stick with a stock bass-boosted gaming profile, which has thick enough bass to feel explosions, but it won't muddy up your crucial highs, like enemy footsteps or reloading. Boom Mic - seems a little sensitive to wind noise, so if you breathe heavy or have a fan or a/c blowing towards you, you might want to get a wind screen. The wind screen from the Xbox-included Microsoft mono earpiece actually just barely fits, so I use that. Other than that, never had complaints in party or game chat about my voivce quality.

I have tried several gaming headset, including A40 with M80 and my last the Turtle Beach XO7 Pro. The XO7 started to give me problems and I didn't wanted anything wireless, but I wanted something better, so I read about this and decided to give them a shot. From the moment you setup this thing and you start hearing the very crisp detail Dolby Surround 7.1 sound, man...it blew me away, it's loud, I can't turn the volume all the way up, it's that loud. If you have something else that's not this and you think is good, sell it/return it and get this. I like playing FPS game and specially COD is another league with this. It's amazing how much I was still missing, I thought my XO7 game me nice detail, but again, this is another league. I will said it again and again, it will blow you mind. Also I was worried about the cables but they are long enough, my couch is 10-12 feet from the XBOX and I have no issues with it. This headsets are worth every single penny. I'm not a hard core gamer, but if you are like me, that like the best of the best, this is it, period. Thinking about getting the COD mod kit as well to isolate the noise.

After purchasing another headset and not being satisfied, we returned them and purchased two sets of these. I was hesitant because of the price but after thinking about how much money I've wasted and will continue to waste until I found a headset that would hold up, I decided I had nothing to lose. We bought these knowing that if we didn't like them Best Buy would let me return them. Well, let me say that I did not return these and me and my husband both agree that this headset is the best sounding and most comfortable we have ever owned. It was worth the money! Do not listen to reviewers that say you cannot talk on Xbox live with these. You can and I do. You do not need an adapter or to use a daisy chain. Matter of fact, if you use an adapter you will lose sound coming from a controller because your Xbox one is built for you to connect directly to it to get the best sound. So don't be fooled with the headsets that connect to your controller via an adapter. You will have sound quality that is poor. I know because I tried this with another headset prior to my Astro A40 TR headset purchase. Anyways, to setup this headset, We followed directions and watched a YouTube video explaining exactly what to do. You setup and then go into your Xbox one settings and change to Dolby surround and make sure the button on your headset mixer is pushed in and is red. Setup for one headset was about 15 minutes and that included a sound check with Xbox live and talking on your phone through the mixer on the headset. I love that I can plug my iPhone into these! I would recommend this headset to every gamer whether you are casual or pro. Also, there is a Mod kit coming out for these that will help noise cancellation.

I purchased this headset since it was on sale for the black Friday deal. First Astro headset i get and its worth it. A bit of a pain to setup but not too bad if you are a tech person. You must connect the Audio Mixer behind you Xbox One via the optical cord. After you plug in you Mixer to the outlet to get powered up. One wire then goes to your headset to the Mixer. So 3 wires in total. The sound quality is great, if you really enjoy gaming then this is a great headset. Original price is $249.99 but i got it lot cheaper for black friday. I do recommend paying for the insurance since with such a high price for a headset i only think its smart. I always put the insurance on the headsets since with the wires many things can go wrong even if you take care of your item very well, like i do. The only issue i have with this headset which might be fixed by changing the settings is that if you speak a little low the mic won't pick up your voice. So if you are trying to play late night and don't want to be speaking to loud this might not be best for that. Besides that great quality, durability, and amazing sound. 7.1 Surround sound is great on this headset, you can test them by going to youtube and looking audio 7.1 test some movie trailers offer it as well. You can even check a blu ray with 7.1 if you have one. Wire setup. 1. Optical wire between Mixer and Xbox One 2. Power outlet wire between your wall outlet and Mixer 3. Headset wire between headset and Mixer.

I do not use the mic for this headset...I use a yeti. So, this review is for the headset itself. The sound is amazing! It is really good, nice quality, very professional sounding. It is completely top of the line. When it comes to sound quality, this headset takes the #1 spot for me...and as a long time avid gamer, I have been through a lot of headsets! To say this one is the best is a major compliment to this product. Another thing worth noting is the comfort factor on this product. A lot of headsets are stiff out of the box and you need a few days or even weeks of wearing it before it fits "like a glove". Have not had a problem like that with this headset. From the moment it came out of the box it has been one of the most comfortable headsets I have ever used. My only gripe about the entire thing is the software. It does not have a lot of options...the software is minimal and if you are looking to really be able to configure your sound with the software, think again. However, if you are simply using this product for minimal sound use, this will not be an issue for you. But, if you are planning on really using this product to enhance or add to your sound options...you will most likely have to use another program to accomplish this. Aside from that minor detail...the headset is GREAT and completely worth the price!

Ive gone through my fair share of headsets, from logitech (yes I know they bought out Astro) to Turtle Beach's... and even Steel Series. But I just could never find that right one for my taste. Until I bought the Astro A40s. I was hesitant to purchase it because of the price. Its pretty heft and the previously mentioned headsets are cheaper compared to this one and they do the job just fine, but I just had to test these out. Plus, I had about $110 in rewards so I figured, "Why not?!" BEST. DECISION. EVER!!! The mixamp makes AAALLL the difference too! The surround sound is so crisp and the mic is really clear!! The comfort of these are like no other - very light, glasses friendly (thanks Gunnars!) and after a while, I forget that I have them on. If you have the money and have the patience to deal with lots of cabling - which is annoying to me - then get these... you wont regret it. And if you do, just return them. Easy Peasy.

I have to say, these are WONDERFUL and I was not expecting them to react so well. There is something to be said about having an amp in front of your headphones, and an equalizer on top of that. The headphones are crystal clear, block amazingly well, and feel SPECTACULAR. For me, I like to sound check to Ori and Halo 4 (for Xbox). Ori has great orchestral range while hiding low tones that have otherwise caused static on other $100+ pairs. Halo 4 has the beautiful vocals at the intro as well as large explosions and talking AI, to test the headphones for their ability to handle the gambit. The final thing I will mention is that you will have two hefty cords coming from your machine to the amp (optical and micro-usb for power). I, personally, don't mind them because it means a better signal than compressed wi-fi (look it up if you didn't know) necessary to send it through your controller. If you're willing to spend $150, spend the extra $100 and you won't ever look back!

The Astro A40TR for the Xbox is awesome!!! This is THE best wired headset. Yes, wireless is nice and all; but over time, batteries tend to show it's age by not holding its charge. Yes you can plug and play most wireless headsets, but the battery in the headset tends to get hot while charging....emitting radiation that can cause headaches. Save yourself the "headaches" and pick up the Astro A40TR's. Comfortable for hours and hours of play with no worries of losing sound in the middle of a match. I've had the Turtle Beach Ear Force Delta, but there was no rechargeable battery pack. It ate batteries on the regular and the ear cups eventually started deteriorating. Then I picked up the Triton Warheads; which were amazing. Interchangeable battery packs were awesome and it was completely wireless. Sound started cutting out in one ear and replaced it with the old A50 (Battlefield Edition). Battery eventually wouldn't hold its charge and the "play and charge" option was cool and all; but it literally gave me headaches from the heat. Picked up the A40TR's and never looked back. Hard wired is the way to go. It's worth the money....now my son and I have our own. Highly recommended.

I did a fair amount of research between turtle beach and astro. Both sides have their own likes/dislikes and i almost settled for TB because I really did not want to spend so much. However, I really hate wires going onto the controller and for every other headset you need to plug it into the controller to have voice. This headset is absolutely incredible. The build quality is superb; nothing is loose and nothing looks like it can break easily. The ear pads are SUPER comfortable, you can easily wear this headset 4+ hours straight. Sound is completely immersive, you will hear every single footstep and effect in the game. Setup is extremely simple, just make sure you first hook up the mixamp pro to your PC(mac should work as well), download the astro command center, and update the mixamp. Then the mixamp pro plugs right into your console via optical and usb and you plug the headset right into your mixamp pro. From the mixamp you can control all the sound. Don't think twice, there isn't a better gaming headset

Great sound quality and the ability with the mixamp pro to fine tune sound. Let me first say i'm a 40+ year old gamer and was looking for a quality headset. I decided to go for the Astro A40tr du to other reviews but must say while the sound quality is there it isn't enough to offset the high price tag. Even on sale $200. CONS: (1) No quality instruction out of the box. You need to go to the website, update the drivers to the mixamp and watch their instruction video's. There is not one current video for the model A40tr nor are their good instructions on what each of the buttons actually do. (2) Mixamp pro will not turn off when plugged into any usb port on the xbox. A real pain to have to unplug this just to turn it off. (3) I don't notice that much of a sound or voice improvement to justify a 50 - 100 dollar price difference in other models. Pros: (1) don't get me wrong sound quality is good. (2) I like not having cords coming out of my controller. (3) Ability to better controll game and voice volume. This is what your paying for though. I rated a 3 for 3 main reasons: cost vs. performance, lack of instruction for the price and because the unit doesn't turn off when my console is shut down.

I am very happy with this headset. The sound quality is excellent and the volume is plenty loud enough for me. The microphone works perfectly and can be detached completely when not in use or just moved up out of the way. It is a little expensive to be sure but if you want a good quality headset with 5.1 surround you cannot go wrong selecting this headset. You do need to update the headset when you first get it to make sure you have the latest firmware. I chose this one over the wireless headset mainly because of the cost. I was a little concerned about cord length but it is plenty long enough. There is a long cord that connects the amp to the xbox and then a shorter cord from the amp to the headset. Both work fine for me. The volume control allows you to increase/decrease the chat/game sounds, adjusting the level from one to the other without increasing/decreasing overall volume. This is done via a large dial that you just move from game to chat. The middle setting is a perfect balance but I have found that I tend to move it more toward the chat setting when in a party, just for extra clarity. There are two buttons on the amp. One is to switch between 4 different presets and the other is to toggle Dolby on/off.

Let me start off by saying that I have owned Astros in the past, including the 2013, and 2015 editions. Astros are known to be the Ferrari of headsets, from their lightweight, well crafted construction, all the way to the SRS audio. The only reason I gave this headset 4*, was because of the price. To drop $250 on a headset is not the first thing that comes to everyones mind when researching headsets. But as the only saying goes you get what you pay for, and yes you do. astro a40s sound great! these are not cheaply built at all, everything in the box is well crafted, nothing feels cheap. My favorite part of this headset is that everything Is now digital, you can actually customize the sound of each EQ to even more specific tuning. Also if your on Xbox one which is what this headset is for you no longer need a chat cord from the mix amp to the controller, its all digital and the xbox recognizes the headset and the mic works (NOTE: make sure your xbox is turned on before you turn on the headset, it seems as if the xbox doesn't "assign" the headset properly for the mic to work if you turn on the mixamp before powering on the xbox.) I recommend this headset to anyone willing to drop $250 for a premium headset.

My wife & I bought two of these to use while kids sleep to play RockSmith (learn guitar) and other games together. These are awesome. There is NO lag using RockSmith - better than our home audio system. We love the functionality of being able to connect an iPad or iPhone using the Aux port to hear the baby monitor while playing to not have to worry about taking some time for ourselves every now and then, but you'll need a TRRS cord, which the headsets don't come with. Best Buy does sell one, but it's 6' long... we found a short coiled one elsewhere. To connect 2 MixAmps to your Xbox One, you need an optical splitter. Unfortunately, Best Buy does not currently sell an optical splitter, but we found one easily enough on Am@zon. We went with the DotStone TOSLINK/SPDIF powered digital optical splitter and are very happy with with the audio quality & still no lag. The other nice feature of the headset is being able to connect the the MixAmp Pros together for a closed voice chat environment, so we can easily talk with each other through the headsets. Yeah, it's kind of an extravagant purchase, but it's a pretty perfect virtual parent escape.

At first, I was slightly hesitant to spend so much for a headset, but after finally pulling the trigger, it was worth every penny. I'll break it down below Pros: Works on PC too, and you can use the Astro software to configure the mix amp to your own preferences Super comfortable- Most of the time I forget I'm even wearing a headset. I've used this headset for game sessions of 4+ hours without any discomfort whatsoever Amazing sound- probably a given, but the audio is definitely crystal clear and the surround sound really helps with immersion. In fact, there have been times in games where sirens were going off in the distance and I've had to take my headset off to make sure something isn't happening outside my house. Cons: Wired- This is really more of a personal preference, after using multiple wireless headsets, they seem to ALWAYS die in the middle of an intense match. I went for a wired headset on purpose so I wouldn't have to deal with this. That's basically it, I haven't found any real flaws with this headset.
