Great Value - Charger Redesign Required

Bought this for my Kindergartner's remote learning. This is a great value and works great with one workaround for the freezes while charging. The problem is that the charger that this comes with is too high voltage output. The heat generated must cause the issue. The workaround is to use a lower voltage (5V) charger. I'm using a tablet charger with usb-c adapter (see pic). The advertised 10hr battery time gets cut to 4 hrs if your child is on zoom the whole time. With the low voltage charger you can keep the battery percentage steady throughout the day without freezing. It's disappointing that Asus has not suggested this solution and failed to troubleshoot this issue prior to release. Hope this helps. Absent this issue I have no complaints.

+ Small, lightweight, smooth keyboard, nice looking. Charger outlet on both sides. Works good for internet browsing. - Does at times not work well for Zoom meetings. Very limited space/storage. Camera not so clear but works. Apps to download must be compatible with Chromebook.

My chromebook blinked out and stop working one week after I received it. I don’t know if I was given a refurbished computer or what. But I’m super upset because I purchased this computer to help with my studies and also a new found buisness. I will see the outcome of this purchase once I visit it the geek squad.

      Dear Khadiija,

Usually, the following can be performed if the Chromebook will not power on or boot up suddenly.

Please verify if the AC adapter is properly connected from the Chromebook to a known good, working surge protector or AC outlet. Try to connect it to another known good power source.

If running it with battery only, please make sure the battery has an ample amount of charge.

If this was tried to no avail, please try to disconnect the AC adapter and let the unit drain for 24 hours to clear the memory and reset the hardware to default settings.

After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter, do not power on the Chromebook until the battery was charged.

If you need further assistance with ASUS products, please email me at [email protected] and I would be more than happy to help.

      Regards,

      Rodel

This is an awesome Chromebook! It loads up quickly and runs Prime Video and Sling seamlessly and without any load times or freezing. Web pages load very quickly and the casing/keys feel solid. It is lightweight and small enough to take anywhere. I bought a Microsoft Arc Mouse to go with it and it connects flawlessly. I love this Chromebook. It is a quality alternative to a more expensive laptop.

Hi Everyone! I hope this review helps you in making the decision to purchase this. I have a 10 year old MacBook that still works relatively 'ok' but I needed something else and wasn't ready to shell out the $ for a new MacBook, I opted for this instead. When I purchased this, it did not have many reviews and it was on sale so I figured I would give it a shot. It's extremely lightweight, easy to use/setup and at first I didn't have any issues. The issues started about a week later when I tried to use it while it was charging. As other reviews state on here, it is completely inoperable while it is charging. According to the Geek Squad, this due to two reasons: 1. It is essentially a glorified tablet. 2. It does not have enough RAM or cooling fans to run the processor. It will glitch and you can't use anything on the computer at all, this does create an issue as I have to schedule charging times and be diligent of having it fully charged when I know I am going to need it later on. Obviously this is not ideal having a computer, it completely defeats the purpose. I did some research at that point and found this is a common problem with this model, unfortunately. I may try to get a cooling mat/fan for it to see if it helps any. Overall, without the charging issue, this does the job. It's super simple, feels somewhat inexpensive, as it is all plastic. But for the quality and price, I think it might be worth it. For me, it was worth it on sale, but I would not pay full price for this, if you see another one around the same price range (which there are many) I would probably say those are better options. Good luck & Happy shopping!

This is a great computer easy to uses had it set up in no time. All functions of a chrome book worked with no issues. Took a star off for the monitor and camera, other than that everything works. What’s I like: - This computer is easy to install - The performance of the computer is better than I expected, with no lag - Keyboard if elected is good - it is light and can sit on the lap - I was able to run office 365 - All my Bluetooth devices ran well and no issues - I was able to connect to my NAS drive with no issues. - Tested parental controls, they are ok but not the fault of the device but they work as designed with no issues What I don’t like: - The Monitor, it is a Little dull and seems to hurt my eyes after some continual usage. Had to watch out for not looking at the screen from an angle where I noticed more of the dullness. - The camera is a little grainy and seemed to lag a bit, it may be difficult for my son to use for school, we will see day one.

This is my first Chromebook, so far so good. Coming from a desktop HP PC, it does take some getting used to. I bought this mainly to watch movies and do some browsing on the internet while traveling for work. It's very light weight and fits perfectly in my backpack. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants something very light, easy to use and on a budget!

I purchased this to use for Virtual school for my elementary school daughter. It's small but sturdy, leaves a little to be desired in performance. I realize this is a chromebook so it's not meant to be a powerhouse but it does lag frequently and there have been multiple occasions that she is disconnecting due to the time it takes for the Microsoft Teams or other programs to come up. Also it does not seem to be compatible with the myAsus programs or the protection plan that came with it. I may be able to install on another device and include it to thos one but I was disappointed to see that even basics are having issues for installment.

I absolutely love chromebooks for what they are. No, it is not on par with a high end laptop, but it isn't meant to be. The Google OS is very streamlined and easy for beginners to grasp. Initial set up is as easy as signing into Google. By design it will not have much in the way of storage because it doesn't need it. It is designed to use with your Google Drive saving most of what you would be using it for there vs on the computer itself. I chose a chromebook specifically to make remote learning easier on my son, his school district employs Google Classroom and has been lending chromebooks out to students for schoolwork long before remote learning was necessary. I would highly recommend a chromebook to any parent looking for something for their child's learning needs.

Reliable + Valuable Chromebook for Travel

Bought this product to lightly travel with. It works great when need to jump on a website, edit a Google Sheet or Doc, that works better on a dedicated computer as opposed to a phone. Have the HotSpot on and link the Chromebook with it, great to use on the go. Not that durable or rugged, so take caution when handling it. It is thin and has adequate speed, don't expect anything blazing when it comes to websites with heavy graphics or loading times. One major con is that there is a notable and frustrating slowdown when using it while plugged into a power source (charging). Only use when not charging.

Great for what it is intended for!

After reading all the reviews it would seem that those that gave this a low review may not understand what a Chromebook is. It is not intended to be as robust as a PC or a Mac. It is intended to use cloud/web based apps as well as peripherals such as printers. This is why the prices are genuinely much lower, components cheaper and storage smaller. I purchased two of these for my twin daughters for online school. They are not the fastest and do not yield top-level performance but again this is not what I was purchasing these for. They work fantastic for the job they're meant to do. Easy setup and perfect size for my children. For the price these things are phenomenal. Again it seems that those that were not happy with this Chromebook we're not understanding what they purchased. It's as if reviewing a Ford F-150 and complaining it's not as fast as a Ferrari. Anyway if you are looking for a solid device to connect to the web for basic to moderate usage then this is a great machine.

Let’s be honest. You aren’t going to be mining cryptocurrency with this device, but if you’re looking for a sturdy little tool for email, casual web browsing, and spreadsheets/word processing, this Asus will fit the bill. The display isn’t the greatest, it does struggle with large web content like MS Outlook or Teams, and if you plan on storing a large amount of files directly on the device (as opposed to the cloud), you’ll probably want to purchase a microSD to expand avaikabke storage... but all in all, it does a great job, especially considering the low price. It’s simple to connect to your home network, including printers and NAS appliances if you have them. Battery life is good. My kids have been using these for 5 weeks for distance learning, and aside from the occasional MS Teams freeze requiring a restart, the Asus has performed admirably.

I'm a teacher and I bought this Chromebook for my best-friends 5 year old who is starting Kinder. Their child is becoming familiar with typing on a keyboard and using a mouse and this little laptop is able to do everything he needs for school as well as browse YouTube Kids. As an instructor, I love students using Chromebooks over tablets because it makes editing and using Google Docs and other apps much easier. So many websites are just better optimized for a keyboard and mouse over a touchscreen with no simple mouse support. At $180 to $200, this tablet is durable and well-rounded enough to work for distance learning. While I can't wait for our eventual return to the classroom, little Chromebooks and cheaper laptops are great options for our current circumstances.

This is a great addition to my mobile arsenal. It is lightweight, mid-sized, and starts fast. This Chromebook has made it much easier to do homework when on a luch break at work. My Probook takes time to boot and shut down where the Chromebook takes about 5 - 10 seconds each. This device is pretty sturdy too, I have dropped it twice from about 3 feet on to a tile floor and it still works properly. The only damage is a couple of flat spots (minor) on two corners. I have all I could ask for in a compact and portable device.

The size of this Chromebook is perfect for internet browsing, online shopping, checking email, or school work. The keyboard and mousepad have a high quality feel. For its small size, the keyboard is easy to use and the screen quality for being non HD is excellent. Set-up is a breeze especially if you are already a google user and already have an account. You are able to create separate logins for different users. I would highly recommend especially at this price point.

Great chromebook for the price, nice quality build from outside to in. The only thing is this chromebook has a defect where you can’t use it while it’s charging. A few mins in and it starts to freeze and lag to the point of not being able to be used. It charges really fast so I wonder if it’s because asus used some kind of fast charging charger but didn’t get it quite right. Whatever it is it is a significant defect, it charging fast makes it not so bad of an issue
