Excellent laptop but needs immediate SSD

First off. There is absolutely nothing to complain about except for the old 5400rpm hard drive! seriously? not even 7200?
Anyways since m.2 pcie ssd's are still pretty high in price for low amount of storage. I bought a 500g samsung 850 evo for $148 on another famous site(take a guess). It makes the laptop SOAR! The 5400rpm hard drive is almost an insult! DO NOT JUDGE it on a 5400rpm hd! I went from an almost 2min boot time to maybe a 15sec boot time. I really haven't calculated the boot time with ssd but it's a mind blowing difference on boot. You need to put an ssd in this thing. You can always get an m.2 pcie 3 ssd down the road for it when prices come down...but AT LEAST putting an sata 3 ssd in it like the 850 evo is a MUST. I use that 5400rpm hd as extended hard drive for my xbox one now. ha.
Gaming wise the 2gb ram on the gpu does kind of suck(i have a desktop so this isn't main gaming machine) but all I'm really playing game wise is wow, some battlefront, some rainbow six seige, and dabble in fallout 4. Wow is maxed and other games it plays them all just fine. Will even max if you are ok with 30fps but if you want to get at least 60- 75fps to get the full benefit of gsync just turn some options down. However lower fps with gsync doesn't feel as low as it would on a screen without gsync. LOVE GSYNC. Thank god for gsync though! I have 3x asus 1440p 144hz gsync monitors on my main rig and having gsync on a laptop is GREAT!!!
I got no complaints with the screen as other reviews have said. The exterior of the laptop is simply gorgeous. It lights up, it's miles ahead of previous rog laptops in both looks and construction.
the battery life is not bad. putting it on power saver and turning brightness down you can get about 2hrs of battery life with combination of gaming, internet browsing. This isn't meant to have awesome battery life...there is a 965 gpu and a powerful almost desktop like i7 processor inside...gotta compromise on that.
Buy it, but dump the 5400 rpm hard drive immediately and clone it to an ssd.

It's a good gaming laptop, the reason I decided for this one was because a Best Buy employee explain to me this brand is the mother of all the gaming laptop. Since it has been in the market longer than other brands. That is why I went for this brand.

This Asus system is loaded with all the features I was looking for in a gaming laptop for my kid and a powerful design laptop for myself. I was just gonna get the one for the kid, but the price was too perfect so I bought one for myself too. The battery life isn't spectacular, but when I think about it running all the lights, plus 12GB of ram and a 2GB graphics card, it's actually not too bad. I highly recommend this computer, but beware, it's HUGE.

Laptop hard drive toast after 1.5 years

This laptop has given us nothing but trouble from the beginning running very slow; crashing; taking forever to boot up even with their suggested updates and fixes; and then windows 10 update at night and turn on in the morning and hard drive is toast. Tech online says at least $700 to fix hard drive; not worth it. Will NEVER buy ASUS again. Our Lenovo and MSI last for years with no issues.

Display problems/ Screen issues/ Flickering

My GF has a problem with her Asus Laptop when it comes to Display & Screen. I asked her if she dropped her laptop or hit it hard or something, but she replied: "No, it hasn't been dropped or hit".
Then I bought Asus G752 ROG Gaming Notebook PC and I loved it but it gave me hard times when it comes to Display problems. It wasted my time when I spend long hours on editing videos then suddenly the screen start flickering and I can't get to save my project. I took it to Best Buy and Geek Squads looked at it and they told me: "Just make sure to keep up with the system updates"... Then I went home and the next day the same display problems start popping up and waste my long hours of editing and I lost a client for crossing the deadline for his project. Then I took it back to Best Buy and Return it :(
It's a beautiful cool laptop and I liked it, but it didn't let me work without display problems.
One of my friends has told me that he start having Screen flickering problems on his ZenFone recently
and he just had that phone for less than 3 months.

A Giant

What can I say, the box it comes in is giant. The screen is so big and perfect for reading e-books. There's a slight delay though using Wi-Fi when downloading at super-fast speeds that wasn't a problem with my previous Asus (other downloads and browsing are halted#. Flicking a few options here and there greatly increased the speed. I think it has to do with outdated drivers which Intel released 3 months ago. The keyboard lights up red which is hardcore and finally the brand stickers were placed on the left side for us right-handers. With a push of a button a hardcore gaming center by Asus opens up that gives you all the live system analytics and even allows for the tune-up of broadband.
I'm so happy with this laptop because there are two great shooters being released within a week. I haven't tested it with games yet as they are downloading but we all know the results. Especially as a portion of the bottom is transparent so you can take a look at it's vapor-chilled cooling system. The back looks like a jet which is totally gruesome!! To top it off, it is whisper-quiet too.
Overall, Asus did it again with the great price! I surely got the bang for my buck this year.
The only real con I have about this laptop is that it doesn't have a touch-screen. Although, to be honest I wouldn't of have used it for anything important either way (or at all).

This is my 1st gaming pc and I am highly satisfied with how it handles games. As flawlessly as a console. I use Steam, so the only issue is when they decide to update, the game (Resident evil 6) jams.
Office 2016 works beautifully on this system. As well as other apps. The only one I find faulty so far is Microsoft Edge, which jams and crashes too often. Seems like an app issue.
Ultra HD Screen resolution is outstanding. System runs quiet and cool. And I love the backlights on back of the monitor and in the keyboard. The keyboard is really comfortable and easy to press.
I love my Asus.

It's a fast machine and the cooling fans do what they need to. I play starcraft 2 on ultra graphic settings and it doesn't have a problem. No clipping and the best thing is it doesn't over heat. The cooling is perfect for a gaming machine. Only three things I would recommend: One a solid state drive for booting. It has a slot for a PCIe M2 solid state drive. Second up the vid memory to 3 or 4 gigs (thought the 2 that come with it is adequate. And third add a touch screen. Other that that I love this machine and would recommend it for anyone.

Excellent powerful and comfortable computer

Excellent machine with powerful performance and comfortable ergonomics. I use this machine to process photos in photoshop and lightroom and play often with files as large as 30MB. Importing 200+ of images this size all at once has proven difficult for other machines that I have used including some of my apple machines. This machine has not only proven that it can handle that, it is also portable which is a plus. The machine is designed for gaming, I did install steam and have a couple of games in it and have not had any trouble with them despite only having 2Gb of video memory. The ram that comes with it seems sufficient for what I use the machine too. I also do some digital signal processing in multiple channels while decoding output from my software defined radio. PSK31 and RTTY are no problem in this machine and I often have up to 7 receivers decoding the signals, transmitting them do not hinder the performance. The physical characteristics of the machine are not fancy, made out of mostly plastic that at times feels flimsy due to the large areas that are covered with it may make the machine appear to be of a lesser quality. The scheme of the cosmetics of the machine are however geared towards gamers so it is not a computer that I would use to show a customer the progress I am making on their picture portfolio :-) that is just me. Finally, I do some ARM development for some micro controllers and have not had an issue with it. I did have to upgrade the Windows 10 Home to the Pro version but the upgrade went without a hassle. The display driver had to be downloaded separately though but the machine has been working well since I upgraded. For the past few weeks I have had the machine plugged in and running not turning off and have had no issues. All in all a very good machine from a not so hot brand name, that is much more economical than the likes from other top brand names. Solid machine.

Aesthetics are beyond pleasing, there is no doubt that this laptop is absolutely beautiful. With that being said, there are some things I really do not like about it. It should have come stock with a Solid State Drive for the OS, this is a new standard for gaming rigs, and a laptop as expensive as this one should be no exception. The 1TB HD that it does come with is also disadvantaged, at 5400 RPM's it is much slower than its 7200 RPM counterparts that are a standard in modern gaming rigs as well.
Other than these draw backs, the RAM is sufficient, and the processor is fantastic. The graphics card is pretty good, would prefer a GTX 980 but the 965 packs enough of a punch to run ARMA 3 and GTA V and high settings, ultra for a lot of other games. The fans are extremely quite, and the cooling system is very efficient. Battery life is okay, can't expect much when your putting out so much power.
I have been wanting a gaming laptop for awhile so I decided to go big or go home, and I am glad that I did.

The graphics are sharp. The laptop is fast enough but myself in time I'd like to add 4 more G.'s because it is just me - but Please do not get me wrong this laptop is fast! It has the latest GeForce Graphic's card out. For the price at first I did not believe it would play all the newest games that are out. But it sure can, and to think that I have spent more believing the sales person that a different laptop would play all these new games and it did not! This laptop also has a Terabyte hard drive. I would recommend this laptop at it's price to anyone!

Hands Down Best Budget Gaming Laptop!

I know I may catch some grief for this review, especially with that title. I was window shopping at my local Best Buy when I started playing around with this beauty. I was impressed with the specs and how great it looked, but the $1,500 price tag wasn't quite so convincing. I then noticed it was on sale for $1,249, so we were getting warmer. After some time, a sales associate stopped by and asked if I was interested. I played some hard to get, to which he informed me that there were 2 Open-Box models available. That's when he started reeling me in! We went over to take a look at them, and these couldn't have been out of the box for more than a day. Not only that, they were reduced to $971. Yet again, he didn't quite win me over, and to that he said he would sell it to me for $900. SOLD! Tack on top of that a $75 credit I had on my account, I walked out of the store with this baby for less than $900 after tax.
Enough of the backstory, now to the main event. I have had the laptop for about 2 months now and it has performed admirably. I use it as a gaming laptop, to be played on my lap. I owned a stout Asus ROG 15" laptop before this one, and the biggest trouble with it was heating/cooling. This puppy solved that problem with the dedicated vents going out the back, and I never have any issues with my lap getting too hot anymore. As for performance, a laptop of this caliber isn't going to win any crazy awards. But for the price, it runs the new DOOM on almost max settings and just about every other game out there. For a laptop to do that, especially one that's under a grand, I'm as happy as a pig in.... well you know.

This laptop is probably the best gaming laptop I have ever owned. It very easily runs the latest games at high rates and does not get hot. I have played COD Black Ops 3 and GTA 5 both with zero lag and no heat from it. I was kinda mixed about Windows 10 as well but after using it for a while I really like it. It only has 12gb RAM however, it's DDR4 so I have no issues with it at all. The GTX 965 video card again handles anything I throw at it. The i7 speaks for itself. The screen is amazingly bright and pixel density is great. Colors are vibrant and for gaming it really just looks amazing. The speakers are very loud and crisp and i have not heard any crackles at all out of them. The battery life of this is absolutely amazing for a gaming laptop. It goes a lot longer than expected really. Like all gaming laptops it does have some weight to it. Again expected for a gaming laptop so not an issue. The only problem is finding a bag as with all ROGs the body is bigger than that of a normal 17.3" but if you search around an 18.4 bag/backpack fits it perfectly. Overall I am very impressed with this laptop the style, the functionality, everything. If your looking for an amazing gaming machine this is it and I would definitely recommend it.

If you are looking for a portable gaming computer then this is the one to get. This unit includes the top of the line processor and graphics card available for laptop units. This laptop can stand up to most high end gaming rigs. I am able to run all current PC games at full settings and still get over 60fps. The only downside is that this specific model number is only sold at Best Buy and only has 12gb of RAM installed from the factory. The same units sold straight from ASUS come with 16gb to 64gb installed. This is a cheap fix. You add more RAM very easily. I would buy this unit again. Very happy with it. If you are wanting it to run even faster, then I would suggest replacing the stock 5400rpm 1tb hard drive with a high speed SSD. You will notice a huge difference in load times.

Bought this for our son for his college work and for gaming. I was a bit skeptical because the model was so new there were no reviews. but we've never had an ASUS that disappoints. He's had it for about a month now and loves it! He stopped using his tower gaming pc in preference for this. And it doesn't hurt that it's BEAUTIFUL--the glowing orange (we got the copper color) cutouts in cover and in the vents are gorgeous and extremely cool. This is sure to make any gamer happy and, of course, more than meets the needs of a student.

Pros:
-Fast
-Comes with Unlimited XSplit
-Not Filled with bloatware
-Has a few Enhancing Programs for gaming
-Dedicated Record Button
-Gaming Key
-Surprisingly nice to type on
-The fans are beyond quiet and rarely hit audible levels (yes it stays cold to the touch)
Cons:
-The mouse pad is over to the left of the laptop! Its not something easy to get used to so get a mouse.
-17.3 and 18.4 cases will not hold this beast, The Nomad V2 backpack can (I haven't received mine yet, but pictures and reviews show it)
Other:
-Sadly no RGB back-lighting(only red, and the area is adjustable)
-While the hard drive is fast, it is no were close to the speed of a ssd and hdd config
-I was able to run any game I tested on high/ultra settings at 20ish(battery) 60ish(plugged in) fps
