I was originally running the Asus AX11000 with two new GT6 nodes. 1G internet service. I was getting under 900 mbs to the router, and below 400mbs to my main computer. I replaced the main router with this new BE98 Pro and post set up, I’m getting almost 1.2g to the router and over 900 mbs to the main PC! Simply remarkable. Set up was relatively simple, using the iOS Asus router app. Pretty much stuck with the initial defaults. There were a few hiccups during set up. First the GT6 nodes were showing poor connections to the main until I rebooted the BE98 Pro. Second, I tried the add an AX58 node as well, and the BE98 Pro didn’t not want to recognize it. I could not get the app to add. Finally, I logged in via browser on my phone and it recognized and added it! I cannot believe the immediate boost in performance, well worth the change!

    Future-proofing with Asus

I’ve used Asus routers for years and I have to say, they’re among the best. Their interface is great, simple and is based on open source software. This router is huge but it is powerful enough to send WiFi throughout my home. WiFi 7 is coming, and this router will prepare you for it. Something great about this router is it has Guest Networking Pro. What this means is that you can create specialize SSIDs for your guests, IoT devices, or a network for working from home. Each network you create is separate from your intranet, so it can’t access your devices on the primary network (network segregation). If you’re wondering what the difference is with this router versus their other WiFi 7 router, it’s because this one includes Quad Bands instead of Tri Band. This is beneficial if you plan on implementing mesh networking. One of the best things about Asus is that any of their routers can be used as a mesh node. Overall this is an awesome router for performance, security, network segregation and I can’t recommend it enough. Can’t recommend it enough.

I have like 15 Device at home and they gave me lag even tho i was the only one connected via Ethernet and other devices using 5Ghz band or less. I had previous 2 ROG routers which were good but not as good at this. This Router is very fast on Wi-Fi 7 and the MLO is an amazing addition , game first works perfectly even better than previous ROG High end routers and the security features of router are amazing ! I had a laptop from 2017 that was infected with viruses and never knew about it until this router connected to it and analyzed the health of connected devices , fantastic! Highly recommended !

Super expensive but super worth it. I have 1GBps internet but my 5 year old router was barely giving my devices 300 mbps over wifi and constantly had disconnect issues. Upgraded to this beefy monster and all my internet issues disappeared and now I'm getting 900mbps down over the 6g band. And easily 6-700 over the 5g band. WORTH THE MONEY

setup was... a bit of an adventure. So the base firmwar on this router was SO old that it did NOT know how to talk to my fiber modem... it just was full Patrick with a nail in his forehead. I had to tether my phone via usb to the modem to update its firmware. After that? This may be the fastest router ive ever had. almost 80mb/s down from over 100yds away. In house? doing almost 600mb/s on an iphone 13. My wired pc... getting within 4% of my rated up down of 1gb... doing north of 940up and down. This thing cooks... quite literally. Give it open air.. the top vent realllllly puts out some heat.

Upgraded from the GT-AX11000 - mostly for better performance in PCVR. I am very much satisfied with the performance of it. With the two 6Ghz bands, I have two different SSIDs created for the two VR headsets we have at my place (Quest Pro and Quest 3). We have 2 gaming PCs connected to the multi gig ethernet ports, and can run them both at the same time with no issues. Both headsets are able to achieve what I'm assuming must be their maximum wifi speeds (about 1300Mbs on the Pro, 1900Mbs on the Quest 3), as I haven't seen any higher numbers yet. The 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands provide connectivity for all the other devices, and I have seen >1000Mbs speed tests on the 5Ghz network, so that's great for my laptops, phones and tablets, and the 2.4Ghz has great range and works great for IoT devices and such. The amount of options available in the config is just great, and is a big part of why I chose this router (along with the awesome multigig LAN port connectivity options). I compared this router to the Netgear wifi 7 router (Rs700, I believe?) and found all the additional QoS and gaming prioritization features very helpful in keeping buffer bloat and overall ping times a bit lower. The WireGuard VPN works great, the Guest network Pro features are very hand, the ability to mesh with other ROG routers helps keep my GT-AX11000 relevant, and guarantees that I'll be sticking with Asus routers for the foreseeable future. Plus, being able to install AsusWRT Merlin on the device gives you even more options. Downsides? Well, the thing is pretty massive, and TBH I find the looks are a bit ridiculous and juvenile. "Do the looks of a router really matter?" you ask? Well, with Wifi 6 having less range, you're going to want to keep it out in the open in the area you want the fastest speeds. The LEDs are kinda neat, but I'm not a fan of the controller they used and the patterns and effects all look obnoxious, so setting for a static color is pretty much the best option (thankfully you can disable them altogether). Also, that little pointless plastic window that lets you view stupid stickers in an empty cavity is just dumb, it would be better to have this be more heatsink (especially because the device runs hot for a router) or at least give the option to remove the clear plastic so that there's less insulation on top of the plastic layer underneath. Not to mention that, over time, dusty and lint will probably work its way under there, just making things look gross (instead of dorky). I definitely preferred the look of the Netgear, but ended up prioritizing the performance and features, so Asus won easily there.

This is the possibly the coolest router I have ever worked with, literally. It barely gets warm to the touch at all even under a heavy workload. The firmware is a little flaky, especially with the MLO, but it is definitely a great router despite the ridiculously high price.

    WiFi 7 BEAST!!!

The new KING of WiFi 7 routers is here! The BE98 Pro is a blazing-fast router with super easy set up. While you can use the ASUS app, I prefer using a web-based browser to set it up. After a firmware update I recommend doing a factory reset/restore and making very minimal changes from the default settings as this router works great out of the box! The BE98 Pro is massive in size/footprint and has 8 large external antennas and comes at a hefty price tag - you definitely get what you pay for in terms of fast wireless speeds, extreme range and set it and forget it convenience. I have tried multiple WiFi 7 routers (Netgear Nighthawk and TP-Link), the Axus is, by far, the best of the bunch and unlike the other 2 you do not have to pay for subscription services that’s already included with ASUS free of charge. Future proof your networking with the best consumer router on the market today! Highly recommended.

It’s a beast but it delivers

This thing is a beast and the factory packaging is excessive. It took longer to unwrap all the packaging than to set my network up. Once you’re plugged in setup is easy through the app or web interface and very user friendly. The router itself is a beast and the lighting is kind of obnoxious but that’s ok because that’s the target audience and besides, you can turn it off. I simply care that it performs and it truly does. I had an Eero 6 Pro 3 base station setup before this which worked great in my 2600 sq ft single story house. I just upgraded to AT&T 2 Gig internet and this router is exactly what I needed as most routers on the market will not cut it. Wired tests were phenomenal: 2300/2300 Mbps download/upload on Cat 6 cable and 940/940 on Cat 5E through a gigabit switch. I don’t have any Wifi 7 devices so I tested with my Wifi 6E iPhone and I got the following in order of closest to furthest distance from the router: Office at front of house(router location) 1230/1400 Living room (adjacent to office) 1000/600 Family room 580/190 Garage (adjacent to office) 1120/850 Guest bedroom 640/260 Bedroom 1 720/280 Bedroom 2 480/150 Master Bedroom 520/160 Master bathroom (furthest room to router) 50/10 Standing next to the router it will use the 6GHz band which is great but the range is minimal. Standing at the furthest room in the house it drops to 2.4 GHz where the signal will be great but the actual throughput on this band is kind of mediocre but still usable. There’s always room to expand as it can mesh with other Asus routers so that’s a plus. I highly recommend this router if you’re getting more than 1 gig from your ISP: this and Cat 6 cables are the ticket for the ultimate home network.

Minus 1 star for the cost. This thing is a beast in size. Other than that very happy with the router. Easy to set up, the interface is a little cluttered but got it set up with all my preferences pretty fast. Best of all it reaches from my 1st floor up to my 3rd floor townhouse. The previous Wifi7 (T-P Link) router I tried couldn't do that with even the 2.4GHz radio. The external antennas definitely help with maximizing coverage. Very satisfied. RGB lighting...I turned it off since it sits above eye level but others may find that cool. My PC has 2.5GbE and my NAS has 10GbE so having 10GbE ports were a must. iPhone 14pro can hit 1.2Gbps Tx and Rx. Only have 1Gbps internet service so the WiFi speed is really for internal file transfers.

It works great as it should! I would purchase it again. One thing I noticed though is it seems since having this I noticed devices connected to router like my computer, iPad, phone, and such... etc... I noticed one on it called Cloud Network Technology singap, which I do not have a device that says that, I looked it up and apparently the China company that makes this will connect to you network randomly, I do not think china needs to be connecting to my network at any time, they should connect to there now stuff not mine. But it is what it is, and seems to work great.

    AI Mesh for the win!!

I've had the Asus ZenWifi Pro ET12 AI Mesh system for two years it was great. I wanted to add another node so I took a chance on the GT-BE98 as an upgrade but still able to operate in a mesh with my existing setup. Migration was simple. Backup my ET12 and then restore onto the GT-BE98. I would say 90% of the settings was transferred over, there was that 10% mainly on the WiFi network setup that needed to be adjusted because the new router has other features like WiFi 7. After that was sorted. It was easy to add my other nodes as AI Mesh endpoints with a dedicated 2.5G wired backhaul. I think it's great that Asus makes the AI Mesh interoperable between units and different generations f WiFi. Obviously Mu-MIMO only works on the GT-BE98 but the other WiFi 6E features work on the other nodes. I also upgraded my connection to the internet from 2.5G to 10G, but currently I only pay for 1G since I rarely need more than that. It's great to know it's upgradeable.
