Customers regard the ROG Strix 18" QHD 240Hz Gaming Laptop as a high-performance machine, particularly praising its powerful processing capabilities, stunning visuals, and smooth refresh rate. The large screen size is also a major plus for many, though some users note the significant weight and relatively short battery life as drawbacks. Positive feedback frequently highlights the impressive frame rates achieved in various games. However, the substantial size and weight may be a consideration for those who frequently transport their laptop.

Hello friends and welcome to my review of the Asus Rog Strix. I will not be giving you specs like linus tech tips, if you want those wait for his review. My review will be my thoughts on this fantastic machine. First off the packaging is spot on. The presentation upon opening the box is amazing, i saw the top and thought how beautiful it was and then saw the bottom. Wow , these guys at Asus really hit the mark with the design. Both from the top and the bottom it looks nice. The only small thing I don't like is the upside down letters on the keyboard. These are ghost printed on the face so not super noticeable but there.
One of the things that stood out early on was the sound. This Asus strix is loud and clean for a laptop! Normally a laptop will only have a small speaker the size of a pea inside of it. Sometimes they even give you two of them. However Asus decided that the only way to enjoy your games is with a nice big speaker. And yes it does a great job of making everything sound good. I can hear sound effects and music etc.. thru the bottom the sides and the top of the Asus. These folks really like gaming and it shows.
For gaming the Asus strix is right on par with what you would expect at this level. The grafix are smooth and vivid. The processor is quick and has little to zero lag. In my opinion The Strix is equal to a tower easily. With the ability to add a extra monitor and other accessories The Asus is almost as versatile as a tower as well. The treat is that you get to take your favorite game with you.
Did i mention the light effects? This guy has some really cool effects right out of the box, no normal stuff. This is gaming keyboard level on a laptop. Top notch and vivid, I'm sure it's customizable but i haven't got that far with it yet.
Finally I would like to speak on the speed of this device. The Asus Strix is fast,,, real fast. From power on to let's say surfing the web, is probably about 15 seconds. Holy cow this thing is so good, I really appreciate a super fast load time. Mainly cause i hate to wait. Also a note for everyone, the bloatware on this device is minimal! Yay ASUS we applaud you and your company for limiting the bloatware!
Hope this helps friends!

What an amazing piece of electronics!! Arrived safely, well packaged. Set up was simple.
This laptop is the fastest I've ever seen. Although I'm an older gamer nowadays, I'm also using this to run Photoshop and Lightroom for editing photos and it's just spectacular. Faster processing than my home PC and having it mobile like this is just awesome. I'm actually flying across the country today and will be in Hawaii with it tomorrow. This will come in handy for the trip and to get my, hopefully, amazing photos processed during my vacation instead of afterwards.
I've loaded MS Flight Simulator on it so far and it's breathtakenly fast with the graphics pretty much maxed out. So excited to be able to play the latest games again in all their glory.
The lighted RGB keyboard is really cool along with all the other lights underneath it. Looks amazing in the dark. The keyboard being full size along with a number pad in a laptop is fantastic.
I would highly recommend this to anyone that needs some serious horsepower in a lightweight, beautifully designed laptop.

The fastest computer in the world (according to Passmark’s performance testing benchmark) scores 25,728. The world average score is 5,057. This machine scored 12,954 putting it in the 98 percentile. It’s a fast machine! You expect performance out of a gaming laptop. What you probably don’t expect is 18” of visual glory. The 18” screen is the defining feature of this laptop. So much is it the defining feature that you might overlook a number of other design decisions that impact the daily experience of using the laptop.
The size of the screen does not disappoint. The 18” Quad-HD panel resolution looks fantastic at 2560X1440 and with a 240Hz refresh rate game performance is excellent. The panel does not support HDR, it is not OLED, it is not a touchscreen, and it is not 4K, all things that I wish it was. But the lack of these features is what allows the Nvidia RTX 4080 to provide all its GPU to support the laptops primary purpose in life: gaming. While not gaming the device swaps over to the onboard Intel GPU to both save battery life and to save your eardrums from the overly loud fans that seem to never stop blowing when gaming on any of the modern games.
The fans are a nuisance during gaming. I found I had to keep the internal speakers cranked to 95% in order to drown out the fans. In their defense the fans are doing a great job at keeping the chassis cooled. I expect most users of a device like this will be wearing gaming headphones and not relying on the internal speakers so the fan noise will be minimized. The bottom of the laptop is etched with multiple grills and layers of molded plastic that create ventilation space. What I like about the layers is that they provide a solid finger grip when moving the device. Weight distribution is fantastic and balanced evenly across the chassis. Yes it’s a thick and large laptop but it is not excessively heavy.
The laptop speakers are inside the raised hinge connecting the display to the keyboard and point directly at the user. This helps create a rich audio experience, when not overwhelmed by the fans. The built-in webcam does not support Windows Hello. In fact there are no biometric login features available on this device.
The left side includes two USB-C ports, an HDMI port, a 2.5GB Ethernet port, a headphone jack, and the power plug. I love not requiring a dongle for ethernet connectivity and the upgrade to 2.5GB ethernet is a welcome upgrade. The right hand side is mostly empty space with dual USB-A ports. This laptop really needs at least two more USB-C ports. There’s no SD card adapter included. It feels like Asus designed this thing for single-purpose computing - play a game on a giant screen. Anything outside of that one use case leads to compromises that just don’t make sense to me at this price point.
My biggest disappointment with the machine is the 106-key keyboard and its layout. It’s RGB backlit which looks great, and the keys are responsive to the touch, but why are they crammed so close together? There is two inches of horizontal space that could be used to spread out the keys and with an extra 6 inches of vertical space that is left completely unused the cramped layout just boggles the mind. The trackpad is excessively large; why does anyone need a 6 inch vertical trackpad? I think the whole keyboard layout needs to be revisited in future versions of this machine.
As to portability, the machine is a beast to travel with and does not fit in many of the laptop bags I travel with. I recently upgraded my travel backpack and the laptop barely manages to squeeze into it. The power brick is literally a brick both in size and weight and the laptop case is thick and bulky (a necessary evil to offset the heat from the GPU). There’s no all-day battery life with a gaming laptop so lugging the power brick around isn’t really a choice, it’s a necessity. I wish the industry would try to make these things longer and thinner instead of thicker.
While there are more visually stunning display options available on the market today, this laptop packs a powerful punch and offers a great gaming experience for anyone that wants to take their gaming adventures with them; just be sure to pack a pair of gaming headphones to drown out the fans.

I knew when I opened the shipping box, that this laptop was quality. The packaging for this beast of a machine, is only a hint of the wonderful laptop that is inside. In the box, is only the laptop, the rather large power brick and the usual documentation that you expect to see with a new computer. I unboxed and plugged in the brick, then I opened the laptop and first thing I notices is the very large touch pad. I will say the cord from the brick to the laptop is too short. The brick should be closer to the outlet and not so close to the laptop. I found and pressed the power button and waited, and waited! The keyboard was lighting up and that was pretty cool. It took a rather surprisingly long time to get to the initial setup. I actually began to wonder if it was installing firmware. Once it finally did boot into the setup, it did handle everything normally after. The backlit keyboard and front edge lighting is nice! It can be set to static, if you don't like it, but I do like it.
The display is fantastic! Large and crisp with great visibility and clarity with motion with the 240hz refresh rate. Sound was pretty decent for a laptop. They are notorious for not having great sound but this was pretty good. They have a deeper spounding bass through the laptop. I happened to lean it up while music was playing and heard it pretty clear coming from the bottom of the laptop.
The power of this beast is so much more than any other laptop I've experienced. With the intel i9, the RTX 4080 and the 32 GB of Ram, I believe there isn't anything this machine could do. It is an absolute powerhouse! It handled everything I gave it, including Elden Ring. Game play was perfect. I'm a multitasker of epic proportions and usually have tons of spreadsheets, Word, photoshop, and a great many other things going at once. I've not had any issues with any lag, freezing, or any issues at all. The Storage is HUGE as well at 2TB. This will hold all of your games, documents, videos, everything you can pack in it with room to spare!
The one thing that is an issue for me is the keyboard layout. I love having the 10 key. It's configured differently in that the 0 key is narrow, only under the 2. The directional keys are shifted over to where the right arrow, or end key is under the 1. I click this constanting when trying to hit the 0. It's frustrating that it is so different. I can get used to this in time, I suppose but right now, it is my one big issue. Otherwise, I do love this beast.

Sleek Design, Good Battery

In the box is the laptop itself, which is sleek, large and with a good bit of heft, the charge cord, a quick start guide and the warranty. There is also an extra serial number label.
First Impression - Though not to be taken lightly; as it is a quite heavy laptop, and most definitely needs a sturdy bag for travel. The laptop backpack I chose to carry; which I would like to consider one of my larger backpacks; almost wasn’t large enough, and the corners of the laptop stretch the back ever so slightly. The charger is also hefty, but a nice long length for any complicated gaming setups.
Like most new gaming laptops or computers, there’s is definitely a bit of classic set up time you have to prepare for, with the addition of the updating of the NVIDIA drivers (Which are not listed in the QuickStart guide, but are a quick find in the settings). What is listed in the guide is a suggestion to charge the laptop for a minimum of three hours before the first battery session. Following these directions, the battery itself lasts around four to five hours with the screen all the way up and fans on.
The STRIX plays all the latest titles with relative ease, with the highest graphics settings not affecting framerate in the slightest. Even with prolonged gameplay, about six or seven hours, as the laptop began to grow a bit warm there were little to no issues. I will note that the STRIX did freeze once, but the game it was running has had known instances of crashing so I do not believe it was on the computer.
There were only minor issues that are honestly mostly preferences. The startup sound for the laptop is quite noticeable, and even startling at times. There doesn’t seem to be a visible indicator light for the number lock button, at least I didn’t notice one. While in a video/audio call, with my favorite pair of gaming headphones, the person on the other end says my audio is suddenly coming through quiet and muffled much like a phone on speaker. At this time, I haven’t found a solution but I plan to try using other headphones and changing the settings.
Overall the ASUS STRIX ROG is an excellent gaming laptop, one I would suggest to all looking for a powerful standalone; though maybe not for a traveling laptop due to its bulkier frame and weight. I would still recommend to friends and family.

So far its been working great, thermals are good with its cooling. The manufacture site states it only supports 32gb RAM but that's in correct. I've installed Crucial RAM 64GB Kit (2x32GB) DDR5 4800MHz CL40 Laptop Memory CT2K32G48C40S5 with no issues all 64GB show up and usable. My only complaint is all the attention went into its performance and screen quality but its speakers are very lacking in sound and quality! I had ordered the Creative Pebble V2 - Minimalistic 2.0 USB-C Powered Desktop Speakers and at 30% volume on those Pebble speakers equaled the laptops speakers volume at 100%. Its got built in Bluetooth that I've used with headphones and its sounds great. Has room inside for a second M.2 drive. You get two usb type a A plugs and two usb type c one of which can be used to supply power to the laptop or fast charge your phone from. Also has an HDMI and LAN port. Over all im pretty happy with it, I have it setting on the IETS GT500 laptop cooler at Idle GPU temp stays at 32c and CPU stays around 40-45c. Playing 7 days to die on steam GPU temps are around 55-57c and CPU stays around 70-78c with spikes upto 85c.
Haven't benchmarked it much but on Cinebench R23 the I9-13980HX CPU in this laptop got 3rd scoring 1336 pts on (single core) with the I7-1165G7 taking 1st and 2nd with 1st place score of 1532 pts. It got 2nd in (multicore) with a score of 24514 pts the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990wx had 1st with its score of 30054 in (multicore).

A Beast Of A Gaming Laptop

The new 2024 ROG Strix is awesome and I absolutely love this gaming laptop. The screen is a whopping 18" QHD with 60/240 Hz refresh, it has about a 3ms latency, and Dolby Vision/Atmos support, so you'll be getting an amazingly high end level of picture quality and input response on screen for your games, it will truly be an immersive experience. The storage is 2TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD, which is great for just about most users and should be able to store a good amount of games. The RAM is 2 x 16GB DDR5-5600 for the listed total of 32GB The GPU is the Nvidia Geforce RTX 4080 12GB GDDR6 which is a very high end and powerful graphics card, you should be able to run just about any game at it highest settings within limits to the display resolution of the laptop. The processor is the Intel Core i9 Processor 14900HX, which is Intel's newest and most powerful laptop CPU, favoring performance over battery life. Aesthetically its gorgeous, the grey is like a soft metallic and the backlit keyboard and aurora light sync bar on the lower front of the laptop make it look amazing. The fan performs great for a gaming laptop and isn't loud, however this might be subjective since I've never thought gaming laptops were supposed to be quiet for long especially if you do long gaming sessions. I've gone through a couple of ASUS Zephyrs and Alienware M series laptops and so I'm used to fans but the ROG Strix is quieter than my previous laptops. I went and tested this beast out by playing some Helldivers 2, Halo MCC, Red Dead 2, and Elden Ring, and saw no issues, all my games ran perfectly and looked beautiful. This laptop is such a good performer and I love it so much that I'm making it my main laptop for both my work and entertainment needs.

A Monster of a Gaming Rig

The Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) Strix is a beautiful gaming laptop. While it is very large, it's sports what I would call a very slim form factor. The enormous screen is amazing for any number of uses, but obviously ideal for gaming or high-end game or video development.
Because of the large screen size, there is a lot of real estate where the keyboard and touchpad are. The touchpad is enormous, which I don't particularly mind, but it caused odd placements for the top row of keys. I would have much rather had a slightly smaller touchpad to have a more standard keyboard layout.
As for gaming, I have lately been mostly playing Fortnite. Fortnite runs like a dream, everything stays way cooler than any laptop I've ever had. Additionally, it has handled anything I can throw at it from Xbox game pass for PC.
The Armoury Crate button and app will be welcome by people familiar with this from other ASUS gaming laptops, as well as the ASUS ROG Ally. This allows you to save specific settings for specific games to accomplish things like longer battery life, keeping your computer cooler, or other things you might want to address depending on the game you are playing. It loads straight into many launchers, and gets you gaming quickly.
I actually like the large screen so much for working that I would consider carrying this as my daily work laptop, it's a bit on the heavy side for that, but I don't see a lot of office laptops with screens this big.
I appreciate the inclusion of both USBC and full size USB ports, as well as a full size HDMI port and headphone jack.
This is a monster setup, and comes with a premium price. But if you absolutely need full on gaming on the go, this rig won't let you down.

If you’re in the market for a robust full sized gaming laptop, look no further. My previous gaming computer was the ROG Zephyr, which has been a great computer for Gaming, everyday tasks and Running CAD software as well as multiple different programs I use for 3d printing. But it had a 14” screen. The ROG Strix boasts an 18” screen that has great graphics thanks to the RTX 4080 and a 240hz refresh rate. Now it’s not 4K but none the less has a great picture. As we all know most games take up tons of space with DLC’s and the games as a whole take up tons of space. Thanks to its 2TB SSD this isn’t a big problem. Processor speed is always a big topic when it comes to operating pretty much anything. With its 14th generation i9 I’ll be the first to say this isn’t an issue. I’ve had multiple programs running while opening some massive CAD files and it never skipped a beat. The ROG Strix has 32gb of ram for quick loading of files with practically zero lag or wait time. I honestly have no complaints with this computer. If you want a laptop for quick on the go gaming this might no be the computer for you. It is large and heavy. For my on the go gaming I will still Rely on my other ROG laptop.

This laptop was great. Everything I needed except I found three downsides which pushed me for an immediate return. One was the fact that the battery life didn’t exceed 3hrs and two it doesn’t support touch screen and three it doesn’t open even up to 180 degrees which is a huge important aspect for me because of bitter past experiences. If you can manage with these, feel free to purchase. But overall performance is just out of this world

This is a beast of of machine very fast, however I did return it. In my opinion the screen had too much light bleed from the bottom and the pictures on BestBuys sight shows the Logo on the lid lights up and there is a LED strip on the back like the Scar. It does not and there is not. Misleading. I would still recommend it. For me, I'm going to save a few more bucks and get the 18" Scar.
