You have to manually switch it from 60htz to 144htz and the monitor stand doesn't allow it to be moved farther back

I'm very disappointed with this monitor. Picture quality is not sharp which I need for editing. Sorry I bought it but stuck now because I had to wait for new computer to be built and the return time ran out. I listened to sales person which I now realize he didn't know what he was talking about.

My only reason for giving it a four is because it’s not 4K, but the 144 hertz refresh rate is optimal.

When I decided to get the ASUS TUF Gaming Monitor, I was looking for a second monitor for my gaming laptop. Ideally, I was hoping to get one with similar specs so that they would both be used equally. Enter the ASUS TUF Gaming monitor. Its 1080p resolution and 144Hz refresh rate are a perfect match to my laptop. Plus, it’s LED so I shouldn’t notice any major increase in my electric bill. Initial setup was super simple; I didn’t need a single tool to complete it. The stand comes preassembled to the monitor which was a nice surprise. The only assembly that the user is responsible for is attaching the base to the stand. That is handled by one quarter-turn screw and two locating posts. Simply align the posts with the holes in the base, turn the screw to hold it in place, and plug in your cables. That’s it. On that note, this monitor utilizes a standard power cord with no external power adapter which I am a big fan of. The only minor gripe I have with the initial setup is with the display drivers. I have no problem going to the ASUS website to download the drivers. My complaint is the drivers are the only thing you get; you must install them manually opposed to an installer handling it for you. Now I understand that anyone interested in a gaming monitor should be able to handle a simple driver install. It’s just that everything else was so simple that dropping the ball on the last step is a bit aggravating. As far as actual use, I only have a couple complaints. The built-in speakers work and are better than nothing but that’s about it. They aren’t very loud, have next to no bass, and sound very tinny. Also, I am not a fan of the buttons. The only one that has a dedicated purpose is the power button. The other 6 are adaptive and change what they do depending on which menu you are in. In ASUS’s defense, labels do appear on the screen to inform you what each button does at that specific moment. I would just prefer it if the buttons did one thing each, especially considering that there are 6 of them. Thankfully, I don’t find myself using them much once I got the settings adjusted to my liking. The number of things I like about the ASUS TUF Gaming Monitor are much larger than my complaints. The factory stand is surprisingly adjustable. The monitor can be rotated 90° either direction, there’s 6 inches of up-down movement, and like 25° worth of tilt so that you can place the monitor exactly where you want it. Also, it is nice and sturdy so it doesn’t wobble or tip over even during “spirited” gaming. Personally, I have it so that it sits just above my laptop’s monitor. You can also use the monitor to display up to 3 different sources because it treats each of the three ports (HDMI, Displayport, and VGA) as separate inputs. You can switch between them right from the menu. Speaking of menus, in the “GamePlus” menu you will find a couple party tricks including a crosshair, countdown timer, and an FPS counter. Crosshair mode allows you to overlay one of 3 different crosshairs in either red or green in the center of the screen. The countdown timer can be placed at the top, middle or bottom of the left-hand side of the screen but you cannot choose a custom time. Your only options are 30, 40, 50, 60, or 90 minutes. The FPS counter sits in the top right and can be either just a numerical readout or the readout with a bar graph next to it. However, you can only have one of these three choices active at a time. I appreciate that ASUS decided to include these with the monitor so that you don’t need third-party software if they are things that you like. Personally, I don’t really have a use for them besides the FPS counter and even that only gets used occasionally. Picture quality is very good; the screen is plenty bright and there is no glare from other light sources. The bezels are nice and small so nearly all the space the monitor takes is viewable. Viewing angle is also impressive as it is enormous. I didn’t start seeing any dimming until about 45° to the side and text is still legible at about 60°. As you would expect from a 144Hz display, there is no motion blur or tearing while gaming on it or watching videos. One thing I did discover is that you get moiré if you try watching video at an ultra-high resolution. It gets progressively worse as you go up in video quality. Lowering the resolution to 1080p takes care of this though. At the end of the day, I do not think you will be disappointed if you decide to get an ASUS TUF Gaming Monitor of your own. As you may have gleaned from my review title, I like it so much that I have made it the primary display in my setup. Being 7 inches larger than my laptop’s screen did tip the scales a bit in its favor though.
