Speakers are beyond horrible

The speakers were the only reason I picked this monitor (but couldn't listen to them in the store). Tried setting them up in several ways (HDMI, direct in) and the results were the same. I expected them to sound like laptop speakers but they sound more like a system speaker on a motherboard. Very disappointed in Asus for this.
