Best large-display Copilot in old school factor.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus Vivobook S 15 is a Qualcomm-based Copilot+ PC with a traditional 16:9 aspect ratio. It's fast, has good battery life, and is reasonably priced. If you don't mind the non-conventional display, it's a solid option for a 15-inch laptop that meets the CoPilot+ specifications. The design is impressive, featuring a clean and crisp aesthetic with a beautiful metal finish and subtle Asus branding, making it ideal for professional use. Upon opening the Vivobook, you'll find an outstanding OLED display with sharp, vibrant colors and a 2880x1620 resolution running at 120 Hz. In addition, Asus has color-calibrated the display, resulting in stunning contrast and vibrancy. Coupled with sound developed in partnership with Harman/Kardon, the Vivobook S 15 offers some of the best audio quality available in a laptop, positioning itself as a strong contender in the market. The most notable component of the hardware is the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus processor. It is an Arm-based system-on-a-chip (SoC) similar to Apple’s M3 line of chips found in the MacBook Air. It features an incredibly low 45W power draw. This processor is paired with 16GB of 8,440 MHz DDR5 memory, which is exceptionally high speed even by current desktop PC standards, and 512GB of PCIe 4.0 storage. With a variety of connectivity options and a relatively affordable price tag, this laptop is one of the best options for general day-to-day work. However, it has some limitations. It struggles in games due to the lack of a dedicated GPU, although AI upscaling can help improve performance. Additionally, the general AI features are somewhat limited at the moment, with only Microsoft Copilot and Co-creator being the most developed features. The keyboard on the Vivobook has large keycaps and takes up most of the available space on the wide keyboard deck. The numeric keypad, which is becoming outdated, is quite small, and the wider chassis allows for a comfortable keyboard. However, my main issue with it is that the switches are a bit loose and feel wobbly. They also lack the snappiness of some other keyboards, making them feel mushy. In comparison to other Copilot+ laptops I've reviewed, the keyboard on this one falls short. The touchpad is adequately sized, and its buttons are reasonably quiet. I would consider it similar to most mechanical touchpads I've reviewed recently, but more and more laptops are moving to the vastly superior haptic touchpads. The webcam is 1080p, which has become the new standard, and it also features an infrared camera for Windows 11 Hello facial recognition. The fast NPU with up to 45 tera operations per second (TOPS) exceeds the Copilot+ specification of 40 TOPS, and currently supports Copilot+ features like enhanced Microsoft Studio Effects, Live Captions, and Cocreator. However, the controversial Recall feature, which was the standout when the Copilot+ PC initiative was announced, remains on hold. Asus also includes a host of utilities that might use the NPU to some extent, but it’s hard to quantify at this point. Overall, this is a great OLED Windows ARM Based Co-Pilot laptop for work and productivity. However, if you're looking for a gaming laptop, I would recommend looking elsewhere unless you plan to game on cloud services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming or nVidia cloud gaming (which requires a monthly subscription to those cloud gaming services). In that case, this laptop would be perfect with its crisp display and sound with the only con being the keyboard could of been a bit better thus the rating for 4 stars out of 5.

Great all around laptop & incredible battery life!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since I primarily use a laptop while travelling / on the go and dislike being tied to a plug (who does like that, really), I've followed the development of Windows for ARM devices with keen interest. ARM devices are designed for low power usage - it's why they dominate the smart phone and tablet world and why newer Apple laptops have such great battery life. But until recently, Windows on ARM has been disappointing to say the least. These new Snapdragon X chips change all that though - they combine the tremendous battery life of ARM with solid performance and a Windows experience that's shockingly (almost) normal. This ASUS Vivobook S 15 is the pick of the litter as well when it comes to finding the sweet spot for these laptops - you get great performance out of the Snapdragon X Plus chip and good multi-tasking with 16GB of high speed DDR5 memory (the memory is NOT upgradeable on these models as it's soldiered to the motherboard BUT because of the speed of the memory at 8,448 MT/s, it's not the bottleneck you would think it might be even if you're used to having 32 or 64GB of RAM) for a solid mid-range laptop price (unlike the earlier Elite models that didn't add much more performance but came at a higher price tag). The included M.2 NVMe SSD is a fast one (a WD SN740 in 2280 size) but you might find the 512GB limiting - do note that with removing some screws, you can remove the bottom of the laptop (see picture attached) and the SSD is the one "user replaceable" part so that can be upgraded, though since there is only one M.2 slot available, you'll have to image copy the current SSD to the new one so you don't lose your Windows install / files (or, I suppose, you could re-install Windows from scratch on the new SSD). The screen is a standout here as well with the OLED screen producing vibrant colors and great contrast ratios at the 3K resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate - 15" isn't road warrior size usually, but this laptop is so thin and light that it still works on the go and I love having the extra screen real estate anywhere I'm working. The keyboard is quite good - I do usually like ASUS keyboards and this is one of their better models at that with nice single zone RGB light that's just enough without being too much - and the trackpad is fast and accurate though note that it's centered under the spacebar rather than the center of the laptop (the keyboard is offset due to the inclusion of a number pad which is skinnier than full-size, and I actually think this is a nice compromise in keeping the num pad but not having it fully shift the keyboard). The speakers are loud and clear ("sound by harman/kardon" after all) though they are downward firing and so work best when the laptop is on a hard surface vs on your lap and the laptop supports Dolby Atmos. There's no fingerprint reader but the webcam, which is quite good both with and without the copilot+ AI trickery, does support Windows Hello for facial recognition if you prefer. I do love that ASUS went with a full set of ports here and not the "all USB-C" look that is more common in super thin laptops - you get 2 USB-C 4.0 ports, 2 USB-A 3.1 ports, a full-size HDMI port, headphone/microphone combo jack and a microSD card reader. I do wish there was a USB-C port on both sides of the laptop for easier cable routing when charging (both are on the left side), but that's not too big an issue. All that's well and good, but what you really get an ARM laptop for is for the battery life (yes, and technically the Windows Copilot+ experience too - and the AI is good and very helpful in things like summarizing long documents / suggesting text) and the battery life here is AMAZING. With a few tweaks and normal (web browsing, office, email, sometimes video / music streaming) use, I'm seeing well over 12 hours of real world battery life without having to go crazy on tweaking settings. I did change a couple things (limiting the screen to 60Hz when on battery is key and not something you notice if you're not gaming anyhow and turning the keyboard backlighting off when you're in a brightly lit room and don't need it), but those were easy from the Windows power efficiency suggestions. Having such long battery life really changes how you use the laptop - even my prior laptop that had a good solid 7 hours still had me checking to make sure it was charged overnight and still hunting for a plug towards the end of the day if I was on it all day. This laptop doesn't have either of those things - I don't worry about the level of charge (too much) before going out for the day and if it's more than 2/3rds full or so, I don't have to worry about charging during the day if I don't want to (I do still keep it generally charged as a habit - and I feel like this is the first laptop that I could use the "80% battery charge level / lifespan increase" setting if I wanted to without really hurting the usability of the thing). So HUGE plus there. At the beginning of the review, I did say that you get and almost normal Windows experience - and it's VERY close at the moment to being like the non-ARM experience. The two big "gotchas" are (1) optimized software and (2) software that is tied closely to the hardware. While most software does just work, to really optimize the battery life you'll want to pick the "ARM64" version of various software when you can (it's installed by default for Microsoft Edge, Office and such, but for any new software you download, you'll want the ARM version). It's not a huge thing - and the Windows emulation layer does mean that "x86" software will work, but it might be a bit slower or use a bit more battery. This includes games, where non-ARM games will run through emulation and might suffer a performance penalty. THAT brings me to the second gotcha - anything that is very tied to the hardware might have issues. This is particularly impactful for things like hardware drivers - for example, my Canon all in one printer doesn't currently have a driver that works on ARM (it fails on install) and so I have to use the default Windows driver which works fine for printing but doesn't have all the scanning features. This will get better over time as more and more companies optimize for ARM and is one of the pitfalls of being an early adopter. All in all, even with a few gotchas, this is a GREAT all around laptop particularly if you're one who uses your laptop on the go and you can take advantage of the great battery life. So if that sounds great to you, give this one a try today!

A College Must
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had recently gone back to school to work towards an advanced degree and have been using this laptop for over a week now. I have used several ASUS products in my past but have never used one that leverages copilot such as this one. This laptop has AI built into it, which saves me (at least) one step when researching a topic or doing a quick searching engine query. This AI has several features that touches on everything from editing, to video calling to basic searching inquiries. Aside from the AI capability, this laptop has an OLED screen which really makes the dark colors such as black and dark blues pop. Its truly something eye-opening if you have never experienced this technology. Be sure to use in a pitch black room if you want the full effect. In terms of the technical side, it has 16 GB of ram and a 512 GB SSD. This is a tad low in terms of storage in my opinion, but since I am only using this for my schooling it ends up working sufficiently. Battery life has been pretty solid too but I want to call out that battery life tends to usually be pretty solid straight out of the box. From a build standpoint the laptop is sturdy structurally. Some laptops that I have used in the past give me a cheap feeling but this one has not given me that feeling in the least. All in all, this laptop is a must have if you are looking to leverage all that AI has to offer. Its vivid OLED screen is bright and beaming. The onboard software/hardware is also sufficient for my needs as a student.

Another winner from Asus - recommended
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Asus does it again! A gorgeous 15.6 Vivobook S Laptop. The windows setup was very quick, and it was up and running in short order. First, the screen is 2880 X 1800, 120 Hz, and 600 nits, so it gets extremely bright. And with the 3K AMOLED display, it brings videos and streaming movies to life with saturated colors and deep blacks. The processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus 8 core running at 3.4Ghz. Although I have not used a computer with a Snapdragon processor before, this was very quick running multiple apps, and didn't slow down. Along with the 16Gb LPDDR5X ram, it makes for a very snappy performance. The keyboard is multi-color backlit. You can personalize backlight colors, modes, and brightness levels on the ergonomic single-zone RGB keyboard with number-key for a comfortable, customized typing experience The track pad has extra functions - if you scroll on the sides or top, you can instantly change settings such as screen brightness ,and volume. The Asus app allows for setting battery charge level, get updates etc. Storage is 512Gb SSD, but there is a micro card slot for extra storage. Other ports are: 1 HDMI, 2USB A, 2 USB C, headphone and microphone. Copilot + PC is designed to deliver AI-powered assistance in a convenient manner, enabling you to seamlessly engage with generative AI on Windows. As I used the computer, the computer zipped through daily tasks without any slowdown. And I enjoyed the vibrant screen while watching videos, and Netflix. Overall, quite an awesome choice.

Nitro Laptop Review
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this laptop!! It's fast (Nvidia RTX 4060), plenty of RAM (16gb) for multitasking and keeping many windows and apps open, plenty of storage (1TB). Reasonably priced ($500-800). Although i found a flaw. When using the mouse to the right of the touchpad, pulling it back off of the laptop for some reason throws system into hibernation/sleep mode. Magnet issue perhaps? Unsure if different mouse would be better. (Will try that next before replacing laptop) *Currently using a scimitar gaming mouse $85). Only other gripe i have is the battery life. It drains very quickly. Would help to have a battery protection mechanism installed to be able to keep plugged in without hurting battery. I rate it an B+/A- overall! Solid Buy!

Cut rate CPU gimps performance
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.16 Gigs of RAM is the new standard. 512 Gig 2280 SSD is upgradeable. 3K OLED screen is very sharp. Battery life is around 10 to 13 hours, so not really MacBook level. The APU on the other hand, was an after thought, a cutdown 64 model (42), with a cutdown GPU. This presents a huge issue as it takes away CPU and GPU cores, leaving you with an overall average CPU that has more issues emulating X86 software and that’s unfortunate. Look at the MacBook Air, those things live up to the hype.

Devices powered by Snapdragon X Series platforms support many native applications. For emulated apps, we rely on Microsoft’s Prism emulator in Windows 11, which typically maintains performance levels. Asus Vivobook with a Copilot + PC, something new
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having owned a previous slightly older 14” Asus Zenbook, this Vivobook is quite newer and for the most part a much different experience regarding much higher resolution display, introduced Windows Copilot AI and more ram and performance along with this Snapdragon X Processor by Qualcomm (big difference from the AMD Ryzen series); Where a few similarities could only be just be the form factor shape and keyboard layout by a bit. It's an ASUS design. Out of the box, of course went through the necessary software updates (of course took some time but still zippy with my IP speed going through my WIfi 7 router, which this Vivobook has also WIFi 7 connectivity so I’m getting fast speeds a little over 1gb /sec), and the feel of this and weight isn’t that much heavy being around 3.13 lbs., its near the same bit a tad bit lighter compared to my 15” Macbook Air being 3.3 lbs. Its pretty thin, maybe a bit too thin but nothing to worry about it being fragile. Looking at the nice neutral black type of finish, depending if your hands are clean or not, yes it attracts fingerprints and they do show more commonly on a dark type of color such as this one and unfortunately at times my palms aren’t sweaty but a bit damp so the fingerprint was almost instant. Same somewhat problem with my Macbook Air (just need the habit to wipe it down from time to time). There’s a lot of connectivity with 4 usb ports – 2 being your A-type (3.2 speed) on one side and the other two being USB-C 4, plus an HDMI connector on the other side. HDMI on a laptop is a bonus somewhat for connecting another display via HDMI. It comes with 16gb of ram and 512gb of SSD space (perhaps for the Vivbook line), being the starting point, a lot more preferable than your much common economy 256gb SSD capacity and 8gb of memory. Plus this is a full size backlit keyboard with a number pad on the very right side; very beneficial if you’re 10-key proficient (and wouldn’t have to carry around a separate 10 key number pad). Typing was comfortable and quiet, and responsive smooth trackpad. This also has dual fans, and were relatively quiet and not that loud, but the fan noise increased by a little and this was during the whole software updating process but this was very brief anyway. As I have tested with this laptop, it supports more than 1 external monitor (my MacBook Air so far supports just up to 1); I have tried it with both my portable LG 16” monitor via UBC-C and a Acer monitor connected to the HDMI, which extends the workspace across those and rearranging any way you like. This model supports up to a total of 3 monitors; so that’s 4 displays including the Vivobook’s built in display. I’d love to change over my current portable WFH (or work from anywhere mobile) to this setup using the benefit of a second display, but very busy with all kinds of work at the moment so we’d have to wait for downtime when IT can configure it with the VPN which does take a bit of time. Regards to the main built in displace, it’s a pretty smooth 120hz display and the colors were vibrant and everything looking sharp, as its 3k. I’m used to terms of FHD or 1080p, QHD or 2560 x 1440, and 4K 3840 x 2160), but 3k was something new I learned (or 2880 x 1620) after obtaining this Vivobook. So this resolution lies in between QHD and 4K, but seemingly had to tell the difference almost when comparing this Vivobook to a 4k display, then again the 4k laptops I’ve seen are usually at a display size starting at 16”. While this Vivobook is 15”, I think it’s great of a resolution packed in for a 15” size display. With regards to the Windows environment being windows 11, the copilot is new and seems interesting yet something I would not be using that often, yet. This would be a first time for me. I’ve been mostly familiar with win 10 and 11. I would have to continue to play around. There is that copilot key to the right of the right alt key right of the spacebar, and when pressed it brings up the copilot experience. You can ask it anything and so I just asked for summarizing the weather for the next week and what’s recommended to wear, and it did that for me. And also, I have used MS paint drawing app, which I drew an apple and with the cocreator option in the upper right, AI made it much better of an artist/photoshop quality type of an actual apple. There’s more that it can do but I’ll have to go through the motions of the tutorial. So far overall, I’ve only used this laptop for about several hours almost, and copilot AI is again something new and something to learn. It can simply a lot of things. I think it’s a great budget laptop under 1k that will help especially with students with school/college (that AI will NOT do schoolwork for them but make researching a bit easier however not sure if it will make challenges less challenging, which takes out the fun in that) and some work from home applications, depending on the employer on specifics on OS requirements and so on. I have yet to game on this but from seeing the specs, casual gaming it would be fine for although there is the higher model version of this being the snapdragon elite it could benefit with more graphic intense games, but still not enough compared to an actual dedicated gaming laptop. The battery was near fully charged (about 80%) and so far using without it being plugged (and this was just four hours) battery was around 73 or 70% though I wasn’t really doing much being intensive, just updates and exploring. By far it’s a real good battery and perfect on the go. In conclusion it is a good laptop for these types of activies but anything more extreme, may have to consider the similar yet more priced model with the Elite version of the processor, if your into heavy photo and video editing. Nonetheless this model serves great for the casual user that does a bit more in productivity.

Beautiful Appearance, Not universally compatible
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First and foremost, I want to say that this is an absolutely beautiful machine. From the construction, to the layout, and most notably the screen, the Asus Vivobook is stunning. I have began to heavily rely on ASUS devices to complete everyday tasks and work for my small business. I also enjoy using them for pleasure as a casual gamer. Now this laptop is more of an entry level contender and won't give you the performance of a gaming pc. However it is not marketed or prices as something that will. This Asus Vivobook is about assisting you and getting more done, and this is where it excells. With AI assistance, a speedy Snapdragon processor, 16gb memory and an ample SSD, this laptop will be your friend in productivity. With a BEAUTIFUL OLEN screen, it will even be your best friend. Now like anything else, there are a few downsides. First, I have ran into some compatibility issues with the Snapdragon processor and graphics. Some programs, mainly entertainment programs or low level games have proven to crash and/or fail to load. From moderate research I have found workarounds installing different DirectX versions as there has been translation and compatibility issues noted with the Snapdragon CPUs. I wouldn't let this really drive you away from this otherwise amazing laptop as this can be corrected in software updates. The other minor issue I run into is that this laptop does skimp on some of the connections ports. I regularly need a LAN port to directly connect to IPCs and managed switches for my small business, but I do carry a USB to Ethernet adapter for this reason. Overall, this is a laptop that is well worth the money, and I would definitely recommend it for those that want to be more productive.

Good power for a large-screen light laptop!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used and tested this ASUS Vivobook laptop for about a week now. It very much reminds me of a slightly thicker Windows 11 version of my wife’s 15” MacBook Air (and the ASUS is actually a little lighter). The black color finish is nice and I can see the keys clearly. Some fingerprints on it, but not a big deal. The trackpad is very smooth and I like the gestures that can be set as well. Very responsive in my use. 120hz display is really nice for motion and mouse pointer movement and accuracy. Display resolution is VERY sharp as well (and tiny if set to 100% in Windows settings...I set it to 175% for my eyes and size preference). While the display is quite glossy it is very clear and the colors and contrast is great. I set my brightness at 70% and the power setting to peak performance (slider all the way to the right). Responsiveness and opening apps seemed very fast in all uses. The 16GB RAM and 512GB storage is perfect for my needs (I also have OneDrive storage for pics and video backup). Logging in is nice and fast with the facial recognition via the small cam at the top edge of the screen. I also like that this has WiFi 7 built in which was “ethernet-fast” on my home WiFi 7 mesh network. Plenty of ports on this laptop as well which is great...many now only offer USB-C which would require a dongle. Battery life with this combo paces out at over 8 hours for me. I'm sure I will get much longer life if I dial it back a bit, but this isn't terrible at these settings. Most usage was web browsing, email, MS Office apps, and light YouTube watching. Testing out CoPilot has worked ok so far, but I can see this improving over time as well. In summary, I think it is a good and light laptop for home or on the go use. Certainly has more than enough power, speed, and smoothness for all the apps I have used so far. And a VERY good price as well. Recommend!

OLED screen is stunning Snapdragon has arrived
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It does seem like Qualcomm got it very right this time. They may have an answer to the “M” chip. So far, this is a very very powerful laptop and I am getting a solid days worth of work out of it while running the processor at the best performance. So I would imagine that if you were to throttle down the performance a bit you could do better than a day and that is incredible. I really like the color of this laptop although, like most black laptops, it is a fingerprint magnet. The screen on this laptop is what really sells this machine. I personally can’t go back to LCD after using OLED laptops for years now. When you do, it’s very noticeable. Even some of the best LCD displays look washed out compared to this OLED screen. I’ve had no problems running Adobe suite, including Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, In design and Illustrator. The 16 gigs of RAM is more than adequate to run at least 20 Chrome tabs and even though this is the entry processor, I have not been able to slow it down one iota. This is an all day work horse that will keep you productive while on the go and also provide stunning visuals for play.
