Although I wouldn't recommend it for now...or at least at this price. My biggest problem is the performance when connect to an external GPU, it's absolutely terrible. I really don't get it honestly because running benchmarks are fine, and scores are actually decent... but when you try to play a game it drops down to 10fps. Not that I'm going to use it as a gaming laptop, but it would be nice to be able to do that while at home.

Beware

The first one was non-stop screen flickering and turning white or shutting off entirely. It would run red hot when the charger was plugged in and finally died in less than a week of ownership. It was red-hot and would not turn on at all. Returned to Best Buy and exchanged for the same model, thinking I was just unlucky. The replacement does not run as hot, but it still suffers from constant issues with the screen flickering and strange video artifacts. Today the screen shut off and would not come back on after multiple attempts to repower. It finally popped up and rebooted but I've had my fill of it. I will be exchanging for something else. It's a shame because if it just worked normally, I would really like it.

We certainly understand your concern regarding the flickering screen, overheating, and the laptop not charging. To resolve the flickering screen issue, please ensure the chipset and video drivers, BIOS, and Windows are up to date. Regarding the overheating issue, this is normal if you are running resource-intensive applications and simultaneously charging the battery. The heat or temperature does decreases or normalizes once system resource utilization goes down. The issue, not being able to charge the laptop, may occur if the laptop is running in battery mode and the battery drained completely. In this scenario, when the battery was discharged completely, connecting the AC Adapter will not power on the laptop. Allow the battery to charge before you can power on the laptop successfully.

Not worth the hype.

It is a sad day when you learn the ASUS Vivobook will have this same processor (or even the HX 370) at 50W TDP, whereas the ASUS Zenbook S 16 has a limit of 28W TDP. This is for proper thermal regulation given the design. Indeed it is a nice laptop, and a feat of engineering in many respects, but the "good-ness" of the 880M isn't able to come alive due to the thermal limits. I would be comfortable to pay $1399 for this same thing but with the 370, at 50W TDP, even if it meant the same 24GB RAM. I decided to return my purchase.

Slick, Sleek, Lightweight, and Powerful
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Almost razor thin laptop, one of the thinnest I have seen. Super light, and ready to go not he move. Able to take the power of Windows 11 (won't be reviewing Windows 11, too many other articles on that). 24gb of memory is an abundance for most users. Average games play well, office suite works fast and quick. Responsive. While not upgradable, the vast majority of users should never find the need too. 16" screen is MASSIVE for a laptop, on average 1" bigger then most other screens in this classy hat is a lot of extra space for those that are working on designs, spreadsheets, and even games. Deep resolution on it, allows for very clear presentation. Bright colors, deep contrasts. Above average Battery life for a windows based system... have been able to run for 10+ hours, without having to find the adapter. Keyboard. Lacking a number pad, is fine for some... problematic for others... If you use it regularly, you will miss it... but, there are third party options for those that need. Camera is good for most meetings and basic usage, but if you are a pod-caster, consider a dedicated external camera so you can get the better lighting and angle. And yes.. my pet feature on all laptops. It uses a standard USB-C style charger, so that you can readily get cords, and replacement adapters, and can use soo many options out there, and travel easy with it. No built in network port (fine for its size), and you have the option to add a hardline via USB-C adapter. Great WiFi 6 connectivity and getting the full speed on that connection.

We certainly understand your disappointment with this laptop and the inconvenience this may have caused if you're getting no video or no boot up screen. ASUS is an ISO certified company, and as a result, all products go into a strict quality manufacturing standard. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections that ensure each one is trouble-free, and are built to last, this is a random problem. If the laptop will not boot up or it's just black screen but the fan, please do the following. Try to do a power cycle by pressing and holding down the power button to shut it down completely, then power on. If it powers on but stays on black screen after at least 10 minutes, repeat the power cycle process again. If the laptop is applying updates in the System Registry, it will black screen temporarily until the update is applied successfully. Additionally, try to disconnect the power cable and let the unit drain for 24 hours to clear the memory. This will reset the hardware to default settings. After doing this, reconnect your AC adapter, do not power on the laptop until the battery is charged.

The Worst Purchase Experience

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The Worst Purchase Experience I ordered a laptop online and went to the store to pick it up, only to find that the box contained the wrong product. After repeatedly confirming with the staff, it took them two hours to verify with the manager that there was indeed an issue with the product. I requested some form of compensation, but the manager rudely told me that a refund had already been processed and asked me to leave. When I mentioned that this caused me inconvenience and that I wanted to report the issue to Best Buy, he dismissively said, “Do as you please; there’s nothing wrong on my end.” I can’t imagine what would have happened if I hadn’t checked the item in the store. The manager’s attitude was highly unprofessional, and I felt deceived. I sincerely hope that the purchasing experience can be improved in the future.

Horrible

Burned hole in itself

Kept freezing until it completely stopped working. This was on day one. But Bestbuy was 5 stars. They immediately exchanged it for a better ASUS laptop that I am very happy with. Beautifully designed mid-priced laptop from ASUS
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The new ASUS S 16 Zenbook is aptly named for its namesake AMD hybrid multiprocessor architecture known as “Zen”. This review is of the lower priced of two S 16 models and comes with a 1TB SSD drive, 24 GB of RAM, and the new AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 processor. The laptop field is getting really crowded, especially now with the recent advances in neural processing in support of Artificial Intelligence applications. Where I think the ASUS S 16 laptop with the AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 processor fits firmly into the mix is its ability to excel in running all existing Windows applications plus adds high-end fast neural processing for current and upcoming AI software. It’s early in the game to see how integral the role of AI applications becomes in our daily computing lives, but ASUS has provided a laptop that bridges the current state of Windows with the future of AI. The S 16 Zenbook definitely makes a great first impression right out of the box with a strikingly simple yet elegant cover design in scandinavian white with an etched silver geometric design overlay. The matte finish laptop lid is made of a blend of aluminum and ceramic that virtually eliminates oily fingerprints and provides a nice grip to the laptop. Opening the laptop continues the theme of a simple clean design with stylish heat vents and a finish that also prevents annoying fingerprints. It’s amazingly lightweight for a 16” laptop and feels more like a 14” in the hand. The 16-inch 3K Lumina OLED 2880 x 1800-pixel screen by its nature is a stunning display, with bright yet rich colors, deep blacks, and it functions as a touch screen. The keyboard is well-lit with a bluish tint backlight and nice soft feel and relatively quiet typing. The trackpad is quite large but works well and can control brightness, audio volume, and video speed with simple swiping gestures on the edges of the pad. That’s a nice feature to have when you need to quickly adjust volume for example, which I often find myself doing. The sound from the premium Harman Kardon speakers is excellent but don’t expect any punchy sound or deep bass in such a thin case. As I understand it, the AMD Ryzen processor is a type of hybrid architecture that is not only capable of running Windows applications as designed, but also takes advantage of high-speed neural processing for the newest AI applications such as Windows CoPilot+. AMD was able to effectively balance powerful processing capability with low power requirements, resulting in a decent performer for most laptop users’ needs. I installed resource-hungry software for photo editing and the applications loaded quickly and performed without any issues. I did notice AI denoising was a bit slower than on my desktop PC though, probably due to the less powerful integrated GPU vs. a high-end PC graphics card. Battery life is sufficient for all-day use. ASUS includes a power charger that plugs into a standard USB-C port, much preferred to some laptops that require a proprietary plug. For digital photo editing, it’s nice to have a SD card reader without having to carry around a separate card adapter. All the latest USB and HDMI connectivity is included, along with the latest WiFi 7 standard. I am using WiFi 6 and unable to test above that. The S 16 Zenbook comes well-appointed with a fast 1TB SSD drive and 24GB of fast RAM. The integrated AMD Radeon 880M video processor can access up to 8GB of that memory, still leaving plenty of memory for multi-tasking. The installation of Windows 11 was simple and straightforward and it’s relatively simple to reset the PC and start over if you stumble along the way. I was relieved to find very little bloatware with a very clean installation of Windows. ASUS includes an application called MyASUS which comes in very handy to ensure that you have the latest updates, configuration options, and useful diagnostics to troubleshoot problems should they arise. I did need to perform several iterations of Windows Update followed by MyASUS updates to bring the laptop fully up-to-date, and that included some BIOS updates along the way. ASUS has included some of the newer AI applications such as Paint with Image Creator, Windows Studio with video conferencing enhancements, CoPilot for conversational web searches, and something called StoryCube, which uses AI to organize your photos and media files…and much more. Overall, I find the ASUS S 16 Zenbook to be a well-balanced and reliable offering for people looking to take advantage of running the latest AI processing software in an affordable and beautifully designed and lightweight laptop.

Bad wifi ruins an otherwise great laptop

It also has much shorter wifi range in general vs laptops with the intel ultra series 2 processors. AMD made a great processor, but the soldered mediatek wifi card makes this laptop useless.
