New laptop did not have a CD drive and my son wanted to rip some of his CDs into iTunes to listen on his phone so we bought this. I've only used it to read CDs, I haven't tried to burn anything or read DVDs yet. The disc tray seems a little flimsy but what isn't these days? Other than that, seems sturdy enough.
