    AT&T CL4940 "Old School" Landline Phone-A Winner!

Phones Like This Are A Dying Breed! This phone is a clear winner. Well built and simple to use in a complicated world. This phone has everything you need, an answering machine, big bright display, big buttons, and the speakerphone sounds excellent. Speed dial for a couple important often used numbers, mic mute, call log, and a directory for stored numbers. I tried a phone set-up with a base unit and the remote handsets and sent it back. Sound quality couldn't compare to this AT&T. Then you had to charge them, batteries wear out over time, etc. I am happy with this purchase and recommend this to anyone, young or old. This phone is rock solid and a price tag of $40. Glad I found it!

I use this as a speaker phone for my 94 yo friend. Easy to use once I took handset away and taped the button down. Then a little highlighting around two most frequently used buttons.

We replaced a home phone that is basically the same as this. It's fine. We like the big buttons. It has plenty of useful features.

Good desktop or wall-mounted phon with a cable. Has large buttons that make things easy to see. Easy and simple setup. Wished it didn’t require an AC power cable for when you want to mount it on the wall, but not a deal breaker.

Big buttons, big screen, quality sound, simple operation. No wireless issues, no battery issues. Its a simple corded phone and handset that just works well. The answering machine has a big red flashing button on it when someone has left a message. What else could you ask for? Only flaw that I see is that visibility of the screen is greatly reduced at angles of say 45 degrees or more. On the wall, looking straight at the phone's screen, its great. Laying flat on a desktop with the screen facing up and away from you, the readability of the screen is significantly impaired. But overall, its a really good value in my view.

We purchased this phone from BEST because we could not find a wall phone wtih all the things we needed. Example caller ID, answering machine and large dial pads. So far this is a great wall phone. The sound is great and the price was right. The only thing I wished it had was a short cord that you plug into the back of the phone and wall. We had to really tie the cord up to get it in back of the phone so it would not hang down. Other then that we really like it.

Beyond being reasonably priced, this phone, but for being "head-set corded", has it all. Large lighted display (when in use), numbers & key pad. Loaded with features of every kind. At present, purchased two & both phones set to "answer on" can be used at same time; message feature, etc., work on both.

So far am pleased with this phone. All of the features work well, essentially easy to set up, answering machine still a learning curve to operate any but the basic operations which is enough for me as it is currently set-up. Nice to have the speakerphone option. It is geared to elderly population so big numbers are easy to read. My only caveat ( and I haven't lost my hearing) is that the ringer at even the lowest volume is loud enough to wake the dead. That is why I give this four stars. Because it is so loud I sometimes turn off the ringer so it would be nice if it a light flashed when a call is incoming. Overall satisfied- good deal for the money.

My new phone works so well for me in managing scam callers. It shows me the telephone number of who called on top of the phone, and, if the caller leaves a message, the message is recorded and easily deleted when I do not need the message. I was able to quickly install this phone by reading the instructions in the guide that was included with my new phone.

The unit has a large, well lit display so I can quickly see the caller id from several feet away. Much better than most other units. Has many fancy features that are very easy to program. Every aspect of it is configurable. Comes with AC power adapter so I don't have to fool with batteries. Speaker phone works well too. Finally ATT did something right.

The phone works well, and I'm happy I bought it. The only negative is that the speaker sound is not as natural as on my other phone, which is similar to this phone but older. It was easy to set up. Prospective buyers should be aware that it has to be plugged into both electricity and a phone line. There is not battery compartment, something that I have on my older phone. I haven't set up the answering system yet, so I can't comment about it.

I got this phone for my 90 yr old Mom and it's been great for her. It's relatively easy for her to navigate (she has trouble reading the LCD screen) and she is enjoying it. A few of the functions (like clearing caller id, which she can't see well anyway) are going undone as it's several steps and too much trouble to get out the instructions to do every time. It has all of the "right" features, but they are not easy for a 90 yr. old to use. Overall, though, it is a great phone and fills her needs.

I absolutely love this corded answering phone. The speaker phone works great, love the big screen & large buttons. The only cons I have, I would have liked it to have a battery back-up so when the electricity goes out, it stays programmed with what I have. Plus, it would have been nice f there was a message left, the ans on button would flash. It was easy to record my own personalized outgoing message too. I would recommend buying this phone.

This was a great phone for my 88 year old father...the buttons are larger and it's fairly simple to use. He has hearing aids and so the easily found speaker button is a must. I'm very glad I read other reviews and was guided to this phone. There are LOTS of phone that are advertised as simple, and easy to read, and this one actually fulfills that promise.

We replaced an older phone that did not have caller ID, and we anted a all mount phone because it is in the kitchen. Fortunately, there is an electric outlet in the wall near the phone mount. It was relatively easy to set up all the options. We just wish it had some kind of red light signal to let us know when there is a message, so we can see it from a distance.

It is difficult to find a home phone that is wall mounted, with a large digital display, a digital answering machine, ease of use and looking good. The AT&T CL4940 has all these features plus more. Instructions for use have to be read carefully. Some instructions are a little confusing. For a reasonable price you can't go wrong with this phone.
