Just an average phone...with inferior range

I needed to replace my old cordless phone and made this purchase. I didn't check with Consumer Reports as I usually do as I was just about to start an intense job and just needed to get the task done and cross it off my 'to-do' list. I knew I wanted to have an extension, saw the AT&T logo and was off and running. It is relatively comfortable to hold and I do like the larger buttons and the extension. However, the range is just awful. I keep the extension in the kitchen and when I sit on my terrace which is around the kitchen wall in a relatively small NYC apartment I get signal drops. Also, even when I'm on the sofa in the living room (which is also around the same wall) sometimes, while sitting in the same place and not moving, the signal drops. I charged it according to instructions as I follow manufacturer's instructions and keep it fully charged all the time. I would have returned it but I discovered this problem after the cut-off time as I was so busy preparing for my job. I guess I got what I paid for - it was very reasonably priced and that should have tipped me off. In this case, cheap is expensive.

I am unhappy with this item for a number of reasons. First, the programming and the operation of the phone is somewhat counterintuitive. Second, if the handset isn't within about 1/4" of the precise position relative to your ear and mouth, you can't hear the other person and they can't hear you. Then, came this problem. When I initially purchased the phone, I was with one service provider for my phone service. Shortly after purchase I changed service providers. This required changing my voicemail number and password. I did so, and it worked. Then, about 3-4 weeks ago, I couldn't pick up a message the phone insisted I had. I wrote it off to the provider. This week, I discovered that another message had gone missing, and when I finally investigated, the phone had gone back to the original voicemail number. I know I didn't program it in because I would have had to go to the previous provider's web site in order to get it. I have reprogrammed the correct number in now and we'll see if it holds. It is possible I touched some button, but to go back to a number previously deleted is not my idea of a good nor easy phone to work with. I am seriously considering dumping this phone system and finding something better.

It is practically impossible to switch to the hands-free mode and have a normal conversation. The speaker and microphone consistently cut out. I typically multitask while talking, but due to the speaker/microphone option not working well, I usually have to switch the phone back to regular talk mode and hold the handset. It is very uncomfortable tilting my head to hold the handset, as it causes major neck strain. If I hold the phone in one hand, then I cannot multitask as well. Adding contacts is a laborious process, as the buttons do not always initialize the specific request while "carefully typing them in. I have had to enter contacts more than once many times. It seems like the buttons do not always work? On the flip side, the phone's buttons are too sensitive; so it is extremely easy to hit the wrong button while walking. Never attempt to put the phone in your back pocket. Odds are, you will inadvertently call someone or press numbers? The phone should have a lock numbers option. I guess you get what you pay for.

Who needs a landline??? But then I started my own business at home, and needed to get something simple and cheap, but still be of good quality and dependable. Set-up was easy and worked right out of the box, and was able to figure out how to use it very quickly, even without reading the manual. Best part was I didn't have to do any sort of phone wire installation/set-up. My home office doesn't have a phone jack, but since this phone is a set of two, I set the main phone dock in the living room (w/ the phone jack), and set the secondary phone in my office, and they connect wirelessly. You can access the voicemail from the secondary phone as well. So easy! I would definitely recommend this phone for anyone.

We are probably now in the minority in that we still have a landline telephone. We needed to replace our telephone/answering machine that we had had for the past 10 years. This one filled our need perfectly and we were able to acquire two features which we did not have previously. Those features are a second handset and an intercom feature. For the first few days, my spouse used the intercom extensively. Honey do this or I need this, etc. As you can see, we are basic users and did not want or require many frills. This is all we wanted right now and works just fine. So far so good. No issues.

We had debated on getting a new phone to replace our wall phone and answering machine we received as a gift from my parents well over 20 years ago. We didn't want one that had to sit on a surface. This allowed for wall hanging, but it had such a small footprint we decided to place it on our hutch. No more broken spring antennae. Hello caller ID (Sure can come in handy during mealtimes)! Just need to remember to press a button when answering the phone. The extra phone is great to have in the family room, though it is a setback to opportunities for getting up off the couch :) We will need to adopt a new form of exercise! Seriously though, this appears to be a great purchase. Voicemail works great, we can use the handset the full distance of the house, clear signal... It's all good!

Who has a landline phone in their home anymore? Exactly, hardly anyone these days of smartphones. Know where I needed one? In a assisted living facility for a family member. If you use a hardwired phone they provide, they charge you a monthly fee. And because of the way facilities are built these days, getting a signal is sketchy at best. SOLUTION. This wireless combination allowed me to plug into hardwired system in facility (no charge for connection) and I was up and running with a working phone that paid for itself in no time. Worked great, extra handset was a bonus and the device is easy to use (buttons are not confusing). Elderly family member had a phone they loved and was able to stay connected with people because of it.

The phone is fine; it has good voice quality and it is relatively easy to set up the directory and answering machine. I would have given this a 4-star rating except for the fact that the screens on the phone have very small fonts and little contrast with the background. The answering machine controls are elegant...but also nearly unreadable. The silver "surround" around the indicator (of how many messages have been received) has engraved commands ("repeat", "fast forward", etc.). Again, there is no contrast and the font is small. Not sure who would buy this. Younger people only use mobile phones and the elderly can't see well enough to use this system. Guess it's for those in mid-life who still use a land line.

I trusted the AT&T name for a phone system. It is chintzy and difficult to operate. My old Uniden cordless phone was sturdy and easy to use. This one is totally not worth the $43. You have to hold the entire unit to press the Play button to listen to a message; the message does not give the number of the caller; you literally have to keep your finger pressing the delete button to delete the message; hard to get recent caller id numbers (2 or 3 step process). Although I programmed it to not have "key" sounds, some of the keys make sounds when dialing and some of them don't. Very annoying. I did not want to go through the bother of packing it back up and returning it but I wish I did!!

Great phone for my older father

I upgraded my father’s old corded landline phone that he has had for 25 years to this cordless phone. I specifically needed a phone for him that is a little more on the simple side, has large backlit numbers, and includes a manual answering machine since he does not do voicemail. There have been moments of frustration for him as he has been learning to use the new phone, of course, but overall, it has been a good transition for him and he is very excited about the upgrade and using his new toy. The conversation is loud and clear, speaker phone/hands free works great, and so far all other features appear to work as advertised.

I purchased this replace an older aging Panasonic that had simply worn out. I purchased the unit because it had the option, and bracket, to be wall mounted. Also the price very reasonable and when comapring specs it was the same as many more expensive units. The handheld units are small and light with well lit dial buttons. The screen is large and easy to read. So far, the range and signal quality is excellent. The message indicator is large and easy to read as well with minimal buttons for use in its functionality. Essentially: Play, Skip, Delete. The message counter indicates how many NEW messages you have and after you listen to them it adds them to the count of total messages in the system. Nice!

It seems land line phones are getting worse these days. Purchased these to replace a set I had for 3 years. The box showed the features that we wanted and overall the phones are ok but they do NOT hold the charge for more than a day or two at the most (and we hardly ever use them). I need to charge them each night to guarantee it will be usable in the event I needed to use them the next day. Brand new phones should not need to sit on the charger that frequently, especially when only being used 1-2 times a week! I would not purchase these again.

These cordless phones are wonderful. The buttons are huge and well lit. The charge lasts for hours. I've never dropped a call. The main base has a cool feature to ring up either that isn't on its charging base. That's a good thing to have if you ever happen to lose it between the couch cushions. The ringer is loud so you'll fin it quickly. The phones have a built-in phonebook to save numbers and then you can scroll through a list. It also came with an extra hard plastic base hook thing to screw it onto a wall. It didn't come with screws but I had plenty laying around. I just had to use 2 and the base has stood sturdy on the wall.

You get what you pay for. The phone works and does what a phone is supposed to do. Menu recall is slower than expected but plenty of capacity and easy to setup. The base station appears to be susceptible to interference as handset 1 will not connect to service if the base is near any sort of electrocommunication device like a coomputer or television. We put the base station in a central spot and handset 1 would not work. Oddly enough, handset 2 worked there just fine so we swapped it out and handset 1 went into an upstairs area far from a computer - and then it worked.

The features on this phone were just what I wanted. Large screen lights up to see text & numbers. Large buttons for dialing and you can see and hear what numbers you have entered. Good audio quality. Caller ID announce & voicemail. I needed base phone & extra handset which you order separately. It cost more than cheaper phones that come with 2 phones but they aren’t quality phones in comparison to this one

I am a loyal AT&T fan, having grown up with AT&T service and phones in the house since I was a kid, and have always used their equipment. After many years, I finally had to replace my cordless unit and purchased this AT&T set. It is extremely easy to install and the cordless handsets have excellent range. The answering machine feature is crisp and clear and easy to operate. This is perfect for a full household. Once again, AT&T proves that it is quality outshines the rest!

The price was right, the shipping FREE, the reviews were good, so what went wrong? This is possibly the worst phone ever! I was excited after reading the description, the reviews and ordered the phone. Needless to say, I sent the phone back as soon as possible. Volume was terrible, speaker quality was horrible, and it would loose signal 2 ft from the base! Basically, JUNK! The best part of this purchase was the ease of returning it to Best Buy. At&t should watch what they put their logo on.

Needed a new cordless phone/answering machine combo after my old one finally bit the dust. Old phone laid flat in the base, which seemed more secure than new models that all stand up at only a slight backward slant, but haven't had any problems so far with phone falling out of the base. Wanted an answering machine that gave out a signal when there was a message on it & this was the only model that had that feature. Sale price was great; didn't need the second phone but now I have a spare phone as well! Very pleased with this purchase.

Bought one that wouldn’t pick up messages. Returned to Best Buy shortly after their 15 day return rule and the only way to get a replacement phone was to also buy a service contract, very disappointing for such a well thought of merchant. Second one has worked very well and is working as it is supposed to. The instruction book can be augmented using the manufacturers website. My rating of four stars does not reflect my displeasure with seller.
