    Fun Zippy eBike!

The Aventon Pace 500 is a zippy fun eBike to ride for sure. This is not my first experience on an eBike and I have to say I have enjoyed every ride I have taken so far. For a bike that weighs as much as this one does, I was quite surprised at how easy and light it felt to ride. I have been able to comfortably ride on my own power, to each level of assistance and have been thankful for the power assist on large hills while riding. Full disclosure, I avoid large hills if I can, but with the boost in power I don’t have to anymore… You pedal and this bike goes fast! If you are comfortable assembling a bike, Aventon provides you with all the necessary tools, supplies and instructions in the box. Aventon also has great videos to watch showing the proper way to assemble the bike. I highly recommend cutting the box completely open to allow access the bike which also let’s you cut all of the zip ties easier. The packaging was fantastic and truly protected all of the bike and its components during shipping. To build the bike you will need to install the handle bar, pedals, front tire, and seat to the frame of the bike (the back tire with the motor is already assembled to the bikes frame). I did have help from my husband with assembly, which took us around 45 minutes to complete. Make sure to check all safety components before taking the eBike out for a ride. I had issues with the rear break not working, but after contacting Aventon customer support they quickly helped me work through the break issues. It took a little work, but the issues were resolved and I was ready to take the bike out for some rides now that it was safe to do. If you are someone who likes to ride bikes, but needs a little help this is a great bike to get you back outside and enjoying the ride! The Aventon Pace 500 is a great eBike for exercise or commuting, with several levels of power assist to suit your needs, as well as a throttle to power the eBike you can get to where you are going quickly. The motor on the bike only kicks in when you are pedaling or use the throttle, but be aware it kicks in quickly and you definitely feel it boost your ride. There are a lot of bike companies to choose from, Aventon has made a beautiful bike with the Pace 500. The bike has a clean and simple design. This bike is solid and well built. The bike computer display has a nice layout that can be seen with or without the backlight on. It is easy to read all the info even in bright daylight. I have taken a few 30+ mile rides and it has been comfortable to ride each time. I have had plenty of battery left at the end of each of my rides. I tend to keep the power assist between 1-3, obviously the more power you use the lower the range of the battery. I do like the fact I can ride the bike home without issues if the battery dies while on an extra long ride. There are a couple of minor cons to the bike for me, there is not a place for a water bottle cage to be added and the bike doesn’t have integrated lights for safety. I personally added a water bottle cage, head and tail lights as well as a bell to let people know I am coming up behind them while riding. I can honestly say I am enjoying this eBike so much, it has been great to get back out on rides with my family and be able to keep up with them! My husband rides a road bike and I can’t typically keep up with his pace, but with the power assist we can ride together! I really like to be able to use the power assisted motor when I need a little boost to catch up to my riding partner but I also love to lower or turn off the assist with the touch of a button to get more of a workout. I am really looking forward to many more rides and getting more exercise! I think the Aventon Pace 500 is a good value for the money in the eBike category.

The Aventon Pace 500 is an amazing piece of machinery blended with style and tech savvy add ons. The bike is packaged very well and protected against rogue shipping mishaps. Assembly took about 30 minutes and before you think you will need to run to the garage to get some tools, hold fast, Aventon has included EVERYTHING you need to assemble the bike. Instructions can be a bit confusing if you do not read them fully, so take your time. The battery took about three to three and a half hours to charge and it has performed as advertised regarding Max range and Max speed. While the Pace 500 is rated at 28 M.P.H. this is not achievable on just the electric motor alone, the max speed I achieved was 20 M.P.H. as advertised, but with the Pedal Assist you can hit 28 M.P.H. which is also advertised. None of that is a turn off regarding the bike, I think most of us are happy to cruise along at 20 M.P.H. without pedaling. It’s no surprise but obviously the more the battery has to work the less range you will get from the battery. I am 6’2” 240lbs, and at max throttle (20 M.P.H.) I have averaged 30 miles of range, which is just fine in my book. If you choose to go slower you will go farther. The bikes weight is just shy of 50 lbs due to the battery and electric motor hub, this is to be expected but its weight is not a terrible issue, if you consider it an issue at all. The Pace 500 is very sturdy and meticulously build with great attention to detail. The electronics, Battery, Motor, it is all water resistant so ridding in the rain or going through a puddle is just fine, just don’t try to go swimming with it, it is not going to survive a submerged water experience. The LCD screen has plenty of information to tell you, cadence, speed, pedal assist level, distance traveled and charge remaining. The only thing I wish the Aventon Place 500 came with is a riding light, this is an accessory available on the website but at $44, adjust the price point of the bike and add it in. Honestly, that was my only gripe, everything else is top notch even getting through to customer service, (nothing was wrong, I just wanted to see how difficult that would be).

This bike is fantastic. Very smooth ride, very easy to pedal, acceleration is smooth and easily controller. First I will start with assembly. First thing I recommend is go to the support site and watch the videos for assembly. The manual was written for both the 350 and 500 models. While they are similar, the assembly is just slightly different. Also, make sure you have a second set of hands available, that will make things much easier on you. Attached I have images of all the parts of the bike and what it is shipped with. Assembly is very simple with included hardware. Build tip 1, make sure you have the from wheel with the brake assembly on the left hand side as well as the bikes fork with the brakes assembly on the left hand side. There is a small plastic piece that needs to be removed from the fork side before attempting to mount the wheel. After that the assembly is quite straight forward. Everything is well marked and the video is easy to follow. It will walk you through each thing you need to do. I was able to assemble and ride within 30 minutes. It would have been much shorter but we had dropped a washer and could not find it. It ended up being in the plastic piece that protected the wheel hub. Build tip 2: When attaching the pedals make sure you are putting the pedals on the correct sides and avoid cross threading them at all costs. Now I will go onto two short stories on the ease of ride and the general comfort. First, I have a son who is 16 and on the autism spectrum. He is quite high functioning but as a youth attempting to teach him how to ride was something we could never accomplish. His frustration level got so high so quickly he soon went into meltdown phase. He assisted me in building the bike and wanted to learn to ride. Since this bike does not require the battery, I felt that removing the battery was best as he attempted to learn to ride a bike. He got on the bike I gave him a quick tutorial on how the brakes worked, and told him to just get use to balancing by pushing off and just coasting and hitting the brakes. He did that one time and wanted to pedal asking how to do that. I showed him how I start off and he watched. Five seconds after I got off the bike he did the exact thing I did and was riding around the cul-de-sac. We have had the bike less than a week and he is riding it around the block daily for exercise, weather permitting. He has even learned how the battery works and thanks to mom learned why you should have pedal assist off when starting. Lets just say she tested, video attached, and left the pedal assist on. My son got back on and shot across the cul-de-sac faster than he anticipated. He stopped the bike and knew what to do thanks to training ahead of time. Lesson 1: Learn the controls. My second story is around my wife. Over the last decade she has had multiple back surgeries, fusions, discectomies among other issues revolving around her back. She has seen countless doctors and specialists. Been through therapy over and over again. It was at a point we thought she may never be mobile again, walking was a chore and for years required a cane or walker. More recently she was in a wheel chair any time we went anywhere. Thankfully we found a doctor who has helped her well beyond our wildest dreams, thank you Dr. Canale! Needless to say for a long period we never expected her to ride anything with wheels other than a wheel chair. The attached video shows my wife (tear in my eye as I type) riding this bike. She also demonstrates the acceleration with the pedal assist in the video. She absolutely loves this bike. It is easy to pedal, the assist lets her take a break when needed while still being on the go. She has rode the bike when my son has not been riding for a few miles a day. Thank you Aventon for helping in her recovery and for giving us a tool that helped my son learn something we never were able to teach him when he was younger. Now that he has learned, we can finally spend some time with his two brothers to see if they want to learn as well. We could not spend time teaching them to avoid the unneeded meltdowns. Charging is simple, we charge with the battery off the bike, as is recommended by the manual. There are keys to unlock the battery for removal. Keep an eye on the battery during charging and do not charge for over 12 hours per the manual. It does not take ling to get to full charge, but I would not charge overnight unless you have to. I would also recommend taking the battery off overnight if your garage is cool/cold. The build of this bike is absolutely flawless. I am a BIG guy, 6'4" and we have the large frame Pace 500 step over. My son is also over 6 foot tall. Needless to say, we are planning on additional purchases in the future as finances allow. One bike just isn't enough.

Summary: A well-equipped beginner/intermediate e-bike with great range that’s sleek and fun! What’s in the box The Aventon Pace 500 came well packed and mostly pre-assembled in a large box. A combination of cardboard, foam, and zip-ties ensure that nothing shifted in the box during shipping. In addition to the bike a general tool kit was included for setting putting the last couple pieces together and the minimal maintenance you’ll need to perform. I’m 6’2”, so I went with the medium/large frame model. All-in-all it took me roughly 30 minutes to unpack and get the bike assembled and adjusted. I did charge the unit fully before my first ride with the included 48V 3A charger – typically a full charge session took me about 3.5 hours from 1 to 4 bars on the led indicator. Design With the bike put together I was able to inspect the whole assembly. The unit that I got was a step-through, because I liked the sleekness of the design and the ease of mounting the bike compared to a step-over. Despite not having a top/head tube, the bike feels very study. Since the frame is aluminum it’s also reasonably light at around 50 pounds with the battery. All the welded joints look clean and strong and the fit and finish is what I’d expect from this tier of product. The handlebars have a nice texture and are the right amount of grippy while not attracting dust. The saddle is wide and comfortable and has some dampeners to help with bumps. The screen is black and white, with a backlight which is very handy for morning and evening rides. The tires are 2.2” which is good for a road bike and overall I found that they did a good job making the ride comfortable. Along with the tires there are hydraulic disk breaks from Tektro that from what I could find online are rated for e-bikes, which is important considering the speeds that this bike can accelerate too! There is an 8 gear Shimano Hyperglide cassette and Altus derailleur which is plenty capable for the terrain and environment most people will use this bike in. What you’ll need (safety first!) While bike comes with almost everything you need there are a couple things before you’re ready for your first ride. The obvious one is a helmet, but depending on your riding conditions I also recommend a couple other accessories. The Pace 500 comes with reflectors on the wheels and pedals, but no other reflectors or lights. I’d recommend reflectors on the front and back of the bike and even lights if you plan on riding at dawn/dusk. I got the white color which is very slick while making the bike very visible. Besides safety, I would make sure to put your extra battery removal key in a safe place and maybe even duplicate it again at your local hardware store. Finally, make sure to air up those tires to their recommended 30-50 psi before your first ride! The Ride and Controls This is my first e-bike and my first bike in 7 or so years and I had a blast riding the Pace 500. The ride was comfortable thanks to the tires and wide seat. When riding you have a couple different options. The first is using it like a normal bike of course, but there isn’t much fun in that. I did ride it normally to get a feel it as well as the gear shifting. The gear shifting was very smooth in both the up and down direction. The second option that I think most will use is the pedal assist. Utilizing the up/down arrows you can set the amount of pedal assist you want. When you start pedaling the assist kicks in and will get you up to a particular speed. In this mode I tend to switch between 2 and 3 depending on whether I was on trails or the road, setting 2 will be comfortable for most. It took me some getting used to the pedal assist kicking in, and perhaps it could be a little smoother, but after a couple minutes riding a didn’t even think twice about it. The final option is to just use the throttle to accelerate. The throttle is a positional lever that is independent of the pedal assist setting so you can use a lower pedal assist and only use the throttle when you need a boost. There is another walk-along feature which will propel the bike at 3 or so mph while you walk next to it which is a nice little extra to have after a long day of activity. I was able to get 50 miles off one on charge with a mix of level 2 and 3 pedal assist. If you wanted to only use the throttle, your range drops to about 20 miles, which may be perfect for many especially if you don’t mind charging at work. Accessories One final thing worth mentioning is the flexibility of add-ons. Aventon sells colors screen controllers that add additional capabilities and have app support for additional metrics and future updates as well as a variety mounts, lights, and fenders especially designed for the Pace 500. Of course you can also pretty easily find other compatible accessories, though the thicker down/bottom tube due to the battery will limit what you can mount there so that’s something to keep in mind when you are shopping for things like water bottle holders.

This is my first eBike and I have been really impressed and pleased. Unboxing and setup: This was very simple and straight forward. Bike come mostly assembled except for the handlebars and front wheel. Simple straight forward instructions made it easy and they even include all of the necessary tools needed for assembly which was a nice perk. In total it took me about 20 minutes to assemble. First Ride: The first ride was amazing! This thing is smooth and fast. The large tires make for a cloudlike cushiony feel even on rough roads. The electric drive really impressed me with how powerful it was and fast. It will push me about 19-20 mph all by itself! With me pedaling hard I went up well past 30 mph!! The usage instructions could have given a little more detail on the specifics of use and each different power setting, but if you're comfortable on a bike a spend some time playing with then it all becomes fairly intuitive. I really like that you don't need to constantly press a throttle button on and off, this can tell when you're pedaling and automatically kicks in and also knows when you're breaking and cuts off the motor. I've also been able to go well over the 40 mile operating range and it keeps on going. Also very powerful, we have a steep driveway and this will power up it with ease without me needing to pedal at all. Quality: So far this feels and rides like a really solid and well made unit. As I mentioned earlier the large wheels and fatty tires make for a very comfortable ride. The frame is solid and strong, no give or flexing. The battery life is superb and at least for me better than advertised. Disc brakes on the front and rear for confidence to stop when you need to. I really like the digital display as well, has speed, battery life, odometer, all your riding stats front and center and easy to see/check as you're riding. Overall I would say highly recommend this to a friend with no reservations. I've had a lot of fun with it.
