Great upgrade
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to upgrade from my old canon DSLR. Great camera so far but haven't used it much. Lens is a typical kit lense that I swapped out to a better one that I already had. Great price for this camera

Fantastic and intuitive starter camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been previously using my smartphone for basic photography but quickly realized its limitations. Purchasing a dedicated DSLR felt like an obvious next step, but there are many cameras to choose from. My primary concern was finding a camera with capabilities that would allow me to learn new photography techniques without being too intimidating or limited. The Rebel T6 fit my needs perfectly. Even with the lens attached, the T6 is surprisingly lightweight and compact. When it is being carried in a camera bag it feels almost weightless. The design is very similar to the other Rebel models so there aren't surprises with it. One notable feature on this T6 model is the inclusion of WiFi functionality. It's a bit difficult to setup (Requiring the desktop Canon app) but it works and even integrates with several social media platforms so pictures can be posted directly from the camera. I've found the most useful function is the ability to pair the camera with a smartphone to easily transfer pictures and shoot remotely. Part of the reason I enjoy the camera so much is that it feels like it is designed to teach as it is being used. While it is easier to leave the camera on one of the automatic presets, I've actually had more fun tinkering in the manual modes. The interface is surprisingly intuitive without compromising the performance or limiting user control. A "feature guide", as the settings menu describes it, displays a short description of how each setting affects the picture (The aperture setting, for example, explains how the value set creates a depth of field) which has made the camera a lot easier to become accustomed to. As for the image quality, it's fantastic and what you would expect from a model in Canon's flagship camera line. I've taken several portrait stills for a film project and the images all look stunning and lively. The included lens is a great starter and has been able to capture everything from macro pictures of flowers to stunning waterfalls. The built-in ability to capture RAW images is an invaluable feature, and with a bit of color correction in Photoshop, the image quality can rival far more expensive cameras. I only have a few complaints about the camera, mainly that a few settings and features need to be tweaked for optimal performance. I found the default setting for the autofocus was unbearably slow but that the camera had several much faster modes built-in. The flash is also really harsh but that is easily solved with external lighting or a diffuser. Overall, I'd say this is the perfect camera for new photographers to pick up. It has many easy-to-use features while offering more advanced settings for better image control.
