Some Marvel movies are really surprising, sophisticated, or unexpected. "Captain Marvel" is not one of them. It delivers a pretty standard-issue Marvel standalone superhero movie, hitting all of the beats you'd expect in more or less the order you'd expect them. That being said, while it's not a great movie, it's not a bad one either. Brie Larson is solid in the title role. The rapport between Larson's Carol Danvers and Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury is a lot of fun. By the mid-credits sequence, you're all ready for the character's return in "Avengers: Endgame". While the movie was shot in ultra high resolution, the post-production was completed at 2K resolution. So this UHD release in an upscale, with a minimal increase in actual resolution over the Blu-Ray. The big advantage with this release is the high dynamic range, which allows blacker blacks and whiter whites than the Blu-Ray. Like most recent Disney releases, the audio mix is too quiet. It's not a bad mix, but you'll have to turn up your volume knob a bit. All of the special features are on the included Blu-Ray disc, not the main UHD disc. There are a handful of additional special features not included on either disc that can be streamed once you redeem the digital copy. My one complaint with this Best Buy-exclusive Steelbook is that the discs weren't secured on the disc hubs when I opened the package; instead both were rattling around loose. Fortunately, there didn't seem to be any scratches.

Captain Marvel was shot on Arri and RED cameras at 6.5K and 8K resolution but finished with a 2K digital intermediate. Overall the image here is quite good, but with some small issues. There isn’t as much detail as there could be with a true 4K transfer, and none of the IMAX sequences are shown at their full aspect ratio. The use of HDR is nicely restrained for the first 80% of the movie and then is extensively used the final 20%. At some points on my OLED, it looked like there was a fair amount of highlight clipping in scenes, which is very uncommon with the OLED when using the Sony UBP X-800 Blu-ray player. There is no Dolby Vision layer here either, Disney seems to not use them as much as they did last year, but overall the image is very solid. The soundtrack is also solid but doesn’t use the subwoofer as much as I would like. Atmos channels are used often and do a good job of putting action all around you, and voices are usually very clear to understand. Action scenes sound fantastic but just lack some of that very low-end impact from the subwoofer.

Movie was kinda stale(acting from main actress & her best friend/ pilot buddy). The product itself(bluray, etc) is great. Steel case is always cool! Only bought it as part of the marvel collection-would of passed, otherwise. And remember-this is only MY opinion...enjoy !

I love the design of this steelbook, it’s perfect! The movie is great and the special features make it even better. I also like that they included Goose the cat on the front. I’m definitely glad I decided to pick up a copy. It’s is an awesome edition to my Marvel collection.

The movie presents of origin of Captain Marvel set in a time before the Avengers. While this is a story about Captain Marvel, just as interesting is the story of the Nick Fury character. This movie provides an explaination for some things seen in future "chronologically" Marvel Universe movies such as what Nick Fury was doing at the end of Avengers Infinity War and the return of Captain Marvel for Avengers Endgame.

I expected the movie to be much like the Wonder Woman movie. A predictable, nuisance, However, this film showed a good side to the main role of the character and a mean side to her character. The film showed consistent surprise and reward which gave the film body and believably stimulated my imagination. I am so good at this I should be a 'movie critic'.

As someone who buys several Steelbooks and every Marvel Steelbook; this is another great looking, good quality addition to the collection. It’s nice these things come with different formats (4K, Blu-ray and Digital). So why 4 stars and not 5? Well the movie itself. I had to knock off at least one star for the use of “I’m just a girl”. If you’ve seen it...you get why.

I was torn between buying the Target exclusive version of Captain Marvel or this Best Buy exclusive steelbook. I'm extremely happy that I went with the steelbook! The case is sturdy, and I really like the exclusive cover!

Very enjoyable movie, great steelbook packaging! Overall, very pleased. I would recommend. I waited to watch Endgame until I saw Captain Marvel, but it is not necessary. Still a good addition to the MCU.

I love Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. I like the story Its very entertaining and funny. And Captain Marvel will for ever be 1 of my favorites Marvel Movies Ever!!!

I line this movie better that I thought I would. Marvel has done an excellent job with this series. Perfect right before EndGame. A must have for your collection.

If you are an MCU fan, this movie is on the must-see list. I went In with no expectations and left highly entertained. It might not be your cup of tea but it’s a great pop corn movie.

Captain Marvel bring back the 90's with this legendary telling with a kickin' soundtrack, Blockbuster Video, and grunge stylings!!! Marvel always delivers the fun!!!

I loved this movie. Great story. It looked great in 4k. Sound in Dolby Atmos was excellent. Great cast of characters. Steelbook is beautiful.

Steelbooks are absolutely my favorite & I’ve been collecting steelbooks for a good while now. This was definitely one to collect.

I dug the movie, but I really dig the Steelbook case artwork. Plus, looks dope next to all my other MCU Steelbooks. Only thing that would've made it better would have been the 3D disc.

This should have been the 2nd movie in the MCU! Brie Larson is Phenomenal. Samuel L. Jackson was a really fun Nick Fury.

It's about time Marvel released a movie with a female super hero. Very good movie/story line with lots of action.

Captain Marvel was an amazing movie and the CGI was outstanding.

I enjoyed it. I thought C M was MALE IN the Late 70s to 80s .
