Great seres that is thankfully more focused on plot the special effects, not to take away from the effects of the film which are great. The 4K disc image looks amazing and the colors look natural although the focus can seem soft at times (probably a deliberate choice by the filmmakers). If you are looking for any seres on a historical events that is both accurate and entertaining this is one of my top picks.

Was very pleased with the packaging case for this item, being a modern take on the art piece The Scream. The HBO Miniseries is well made and a very authentic look into the biggest man-made disaster which occurred in 1986. Also a tribute to those who were affected and the spirit of the survivors is portrayed with much humanity. Image quality on the 4K disc is barely noticeable from the Blu-Ray however.

This is great Miniseries put out by HBO. That documents the Incident at Chernobyl. I highly reccomend this haunting show if you haven't seen it. This is such a beautiful steelbook to commemorate this show.

Speaking as a retired Master Instructor assigned to the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine, Battlefield Medical Operations Branch, I honestly believe that this amazing film SHOULD be studied by every Science Student, Environmentalist, Science Teacher, Emergency Manager, and all Medical Personnel who needs to really understand the nightmare created by the design and explosion of this Soviet RBMK reactor. It was hard to watch but it is a true representation of what actually happened at Chernobyl and in the surrounding countries. The coverage of the massive international spread of radiation and required decontamination was honest yet appalling in it's scope. The devastating medical effects of significant radiation exposure to all personnel were gruesome and accurately depicted in this film. The heroes in this film were true heroes indeed and represent only a small portion of those involved in the response process that saved thousands if not millions of lives. This movie is the worst type of horror movie because it is true. With all the nuclear reactors currently in operation on this planet...to be forewarned, is to be forearmed. Always remember that the containment sarcophagus built around the crippled reactor was only designed to last 100 years and the clock is ticking. This is NOT a horror movie designed for entertainment... This tale is very real, the threat is very real, and the hazards shown have not changed at all. I would have given this movie 10 stars, if I could. Be warned, it will change your thinking forever!

Based on the horrific true events, this series is both important and powerful. It pulls absolutely no punches when it comes to recreating this terrible catastrophe, and so I would recommend it only for mature teens and adults. Thankfully, it is not sensationalized in its depiction of these harrowing events, and instead shows us what really happened. As one would expect, it is embellished a bit, but not too much; I was surprised at how much I saw in the docudrama was based in reality! Well-acted, well-written, with phenomenal production value.

Not for the faint of heart. Accurate portrayal of the worst nuclear disaster in history. Even more frightening than the physical results on the first responders is the bureaucratic maneuvers that almost destroyed most of Eastern Europe. The acting is phenomenal. The scenes showing the effects of radiation poisoning are heartbreaking. The episode relating the military dealing with the pets and livestock in the hot zone packs an emotional punch that will stay with you forever. Audio and video quality are terrific. Highly Recommended!

Odds are by now you have seen or heard other critics/reviewers talk about this serries. And rightly so this is a fascinating docudrama about the Chernobyl disaster. I have seen and enjoyed many of HBO's mini serries band of Brothers the Pacific from earth to the moon. I think this one is the best of those ....now that being said it is not the easiest to watch with the events of this disaster being displayed in all of their horrifying detail. However in these times it's likely the most important Miniseries that has come out recently. I'll talk about some specifics below. Plot: the very first episode as most people have talked about is one of the greatest hours of TV in history. To sumerize the plot without spoilers is the following: an explosion in reactor no4 of the Chernobyl power station starts a crisis with far reaching implications. It is up to 3 people 2 of which are real one who is a amalgamation of a bunch of real people. This group includes 2 scientists and a career bureaucrat who must not only extinguish the crisis but navigate the entire Soviet system from the KGB to the divisions of labor to solve the problem and discover the truth about what happened. The acting is amazing it is a huge credit to Jared Harris who has usually played bad guys(fringe, the expanse, Sherlock Holmes 2) to be this good at a character who is the protagonist as it is following him we get most of the mini series run time. In terms of quality definitely get the Blu Ray for best picture I'm a little disappointed by the small amount of special features but this normal for physical media these days. Music: the soundtrack was composed by I'll just buther her name ....but in case she just won the Oscar for joker. She also was a cellist for sicario and composed the score for sicario 2 it is absolutely haunting and perfect for this as a separate note it's worth listening to on its own. There are some historical inaccuracies but that's true of any docudrama. What this show did was nail the feel and scale of the disaster. Having visited Russia I can say that the look of the show is as close to how things actually are the production design and location s are on point. To sumerize this is a short 5part miniseries something that you can watch in an afternoon however this show will test you some of the things in it are horrible but they did happen or at least a version of them happened. I would say it is not a feel good serries. But if you are fascinated by history or want to see fantastic performances then by all means watch this show.

I know that it seems like a documentary about one of the biggest man-made disasters on earth would seem like great viewing, but this is probably the best mini-series I have ever seen. The acting is sensational, the plot during and after the Chernobyl nuclear reactor explosion is riveting. I was hooked from the first episode until the very end. I know some liberties were taken with the story for drama purposes, but the story is stronger for it. This is top notch story and film making.

Watched this alone and then rewatched with the family. I really enjoyed learning how this event unfolded and the inner workings of the decision makers involved. I watched under the guise that the makers of the mini-series were trying to tell an accurate story, but it's entertaining regardless, A couple slow parts, but highly recommend

In my opinion, Chernobyl is one of the best TV mini-series put on TV since Band of Brothers (both HBO shows!). The story, acting and technical execution of the show are all top notch. My only wish would be that they released it in 4K, but the Blu-Ray looks just fine :) Definitely recommend this 2 disc set!

This miniseries event really made me aware for the first time how much the former Soviet Union went to downgrade and cover up the worst nuclear catastrophe we have experienced as a planet. It was compelling, sometimes gritty, and held you on the edge of your seat throughout.

Everybody who's worried about how the world is going to produce electricity -- fossil fuels, renewables, atomic plants -- will want to see this series. This series shows that Chernobyl was terrible and if not for some extreme sacrifices could have been even worse.

Honestly, I'm a history nerd who has read many books and watched documentaries about this incident. While not completely historically accurate, Chernobyl is an amazing docudrama of the incident. Of you're at all interested in the topic, watch this.

Amazing docu-drama from HBO. Upon doing a little research, most of the movie is true to the actual account of what happened. Hard to believe this happened as depicted. We were glued to our chairs watching this for hours at a time.

The piecemeal story line, pacing, character development, camera work, acting, score, color palette, set design, and any other category you can invoke are all perfectly executed in the telling of this dramatic story.
