Good but instructions confusing

I got this because we would be traveling a bit this summer. It's easy to just plug in but the key to all the different beeps and alerts are a bit confusing. Would be nice to have a separate key that you can use instead of having to look it up in the booklet. Also the suction cup on one of them is already not working.

Cobra makes the best radar detectors out there and this of one of their best. Works perfectly and I like the way you can program the detector for specific alerts you want. I have a Cobra Radar detector in all my cars.

If you don't want to spend a small fortune but want to get a solidly functional radar detector, this is a very good option. It is easy to install (in my case, I opted for the dashboard, although I have the windshield installation "system" in place until I clarify some finer points of Florida law). It is easy to operate and use. It has already saved me from a ticked from a craftily hidden policeman with a laser which this unit warned me about in time. You can't ask for much more than that.
Yes, you can pay LOTS more for a radar detector. If you want to pay for bragging rights and ego satisfaction, go ahead and spend the small fortune. If you are obsessed with having all the latest features that you don't use, spend the small fortune. But if you simply want to be warned about a speed trap in time to avoid a ticket and get on with your business, you won't go wrong buying this unit.
Ah! And those reviews mentioning "false warnings"? Remember that the unit is called a "radar detector", not a police car detector. You will get warnings from roadside speed checkers (mostly) and s o m e storefront systems (depending on the degree of sensitivity you set for city driving), but as I see it, that just helps keep me "awake and aware". It improves my alertness level and my driving. :)
And why FOUR stars? Well, it doesn't cost $600 and it doesn't have a whole bunch of features that I won't use, so I can't give it a 5 star rating, can I? :)

A good functional unit at a great price

There are many radar detectors out there at fluctuating levels of price. Some cost more than a good tablet. Others scrape the bottom of the barrel. But the key, in my view, is getting a unit that performs well and meets your needs and expectations, at a price that fits your budget. And THAT is precisely what the Cobra SPX Radar/Laser detector does.
I will not repeat the product description and functions here. You can get that from the Best Buy web page. However, I WILL say this:
I have used this unit for a few months now. I have found it to perform well in both city and highway environments. It has consistently warned me of the presence of speed detection radars; both fixed location radars (as on speed warning signs) and police vehicle mounted radars.
I have been warned on three occasions of the presence of lasers. The first time I heard the more high-pitched warning sound it caught me off guard because I did not expect it and the road seemed fairly clear. However, another few minutes of driving allowed me to see the police car carefully hidden behind a hedge line.
Another surprise was the unexpected "Emergency vehicle approaching" voice warning when a fire truck or an ambulance approached. I had not read anything in the accompanying user's guide indicating that the unit could provide this warning. However, it has warned me on two occasions regarding emergency vehicles, so I can testify that this functionality exists.
I mounted the unit quickly with the Velcro mounts, which - in my vehicle - I preferred to the windshield mount. I wanted to set it back a bit from my windshield. The unit has stayed in place and has performed admirably.
Non-police radar alerts in urban settings can be kept to a minimum by using the appropriate settings on the unit. I have absolutely NO complaints regarding the price of the unit at Best Buy. Suffice it to say it was the best deal all around.
I am very satisfied with this purchase and unconditionally recommend the unit to anyone seeking an effective radar detector at a very good price. In fact, I have already done so to two people. I have no direct or indirect relationship with either Cobra or Best Buy and this is an uncompensated review by a satisfied customer.
