I got this SSD to do secure backups on my laptop. I got it because the specs said it provided password protection and encryption.
However, after getting the drive, I find this protection must be accessed via Microsoft's Bitlocker program which is only available on Windows 11 PRO. Windows 11 HOME requires a third party encryption app to provide password support and encryption. This makes the security features built in to the X9 useless for most users.
I have been using an old model WD My Passport Ultra external USB HDD which has password protection and hardware encryption activation built in. Comparing the X9 PRO with the additional recommended third party encryption software, the X9 PRO takes twice as long as the WD to do backups.
If you are looking to do password protected backups, forget the X9 PRO and find something else.

The Crucial X9 Pro 1TB has been an excellent external SSD for everyday storage and fast file transfers. It’s impressively small and lightweight, the Space Gray finish looks clean, and it feels solid enough to toss in a bag without worrying about it.
Setup is plug-and-play over USB-C, and it’s been consistently responsive, great for moving large files, keeping backups, and freeing up space without the lag you get from older external drives. I also appreciate how portable it is; it disappears in a pocket but performs like a serious drive.
If you want a reliable, fast, USB-C external SSD that’s easy to travel with, the X9 Pro is a strong buy.

Made you download a bunch of stuff to make it compatible for a windows. As it is cheaper not worth all the struggle. I also am just not the greatest with computers so I guess it’s all a personal preference. I just think for spending $100 you should be able to just plug it in and use it without needing to download anything

I formatted the drive to APFS right away, copied 900GB of files to it via Carbon Copy Cloner, spent the rest of the day using it. 3 days later I plugged the drive in again and it wouldn't mount or show in Finder. I tried different cables, USB ports, and computers with the same results. Thank goodness I had other backups of those 900GB.

Terrible Service. Delivered to wrong address. Followed up with delivery driver right after I received the delivery notification. She’s so rude and keeps saying my house has no house number which is not true. Later on I even send my house picture with number. The delivery lady has no answer.

Purchased this on line as a new product. Was sent a used product that had already been registered many months before my purchase. Also had issues with installing the Crucial Storage Executive software which may or may not be related to being sent a used and possible defective product. Returned the product.
