This product is a waste of money and offers very little use. It is cumbersome to set up and very difficult to access the saved video. Furthermore, it bogged down my internet speed so I could barely even watch the cameras I had on my network. My only regret is that I figured this out after I could return the product.

This product is great, in theory. The physical set up was easy enough. But getting it to work correctly was the hard part. Sometimes I was able to see recordings and live images, more often than not, I wasn't. After days of cycling the camera, the software, the website, and the mobile apps on my own I decided to call customer support. The agent, badge ID AR004214, assisted me in upgrading the firmware and making some setting changes to the user interface. So far, so good.

Misha (Dlink Rep) was great. After trying on my own for an hour. I decided to call the help desk number. She helped me setup my whole system (two cameras and recorder) with no problem. She helped me for a good hour and made sure everything was in working order before we ended our conversation. She even 'ghosted' my computer to make sure all my settings were correct. As for the NVR, it's a great thing to have. Adding the recorder is good because you can record video from certain times and certain days of the week. All videos are saved onto an external drive (be sure to get a 1TB if you want good quality video recorded). The only issue I have is it's difficult to access via any web browser I have on my computer (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer...all have issues) Besides that, I now have a great security camera system to go with my motion sensors at my main door and living room.

STAY AWAY FROM DLINK CAMERAS. HACKED.

I have a 930L and 932L dlink cameras for my home. I'd started to notice the greenlight on each camera start blinking. At first I thought it was network problem so I ignored it. It happened for about a month then I started to notice that the blinking stopped as soon as I looked at either camera. So i installed another camera (non-dlink) to record the dlink camera. Sure enough, the blinking on the dlink cameras went on and on for sometimes 10-15 minutes and as soon as I looked at either the dlink camera, the blinking stopped. Someone hacked into the dlink cameras and had been watching me in my own home. I googled hacked dlink cameras, and yup, their cameras are easily hackable. Since then, I changed the password and the blinkings have stopped. I emailed Dlink thru their tech support on their website, and for 3 weeks, i haven't heard from them. I demand an explanation but to no avail. I would stay away from Dlink if I were you. Now i'm looking into other cameras to replace the Dlinks.

    Best option for recording video

I already owned 2 D-Link IP cameras. I have wanted the option to record the video for a long time. The DNR-202L was easy to setup following the simple instructions included. I was recording video in 10 minutes. The only issue I noticed was when I updated the firmware on the device. It stopped working and scared me at first. I went through the original setup procedure and everything started back working as it did before. I am recommending this device to all my friends who are looking for an easy IP camera setup. I think its best to get the cameras up and working first, then add this device.

Don't buy until they fix all their issues/firmware

I really wanted to like this product. I have 4 of their camera models, D-Link 932Ls and 933Ls. I have them set around my home and have them set on motion sensing with emailing the images. This is an awesome feature but I live on a busy street so I constantly get these emails as cars pass my driveway. I bought this DNR recorder in hoping that I can rely on the playback feature if I ever needed it. Setting it up is terrible. I'm a pretty tech savvy guy and I couldn't get this up and running. I of course looked up some troubleshooting and from others past experiences it was recommended that you turn off your security settings if you wanted this device to work... umm no, I shouldn't have to do so, so I gave in and called D-Link's customer service which they than forward you to their very own Best Buy D-Link customer service reps. After downloading the installation wizard via Safari (using mac) they installation gave an error and didn't want to install. The rep even noted that this device isn't as mac friendly as it should be. Reps solution was to use a PC if I had one - I did not. Second solution was to download Firefox and download the installation wizard again and what do you know it worked and we went on to install the device. After the device was downloaded, installed and linked to my account/cameras I get another error about the security certificates when trying to view the cameras/go into settings. The rep mentions that this has been an ongoing issue and that they're working on it and would give me a call back when discussing with higher ups. After the call I decided to use my bootcamp on a family computer to try and see if it was just an issue with macs. Nope, same issue with PC. A lot of needing to "trust" or bypass untrusting security certificates. The only way I ever got the cameras to work was to turn off all my security settings and leave my computer vulnerable. The app also doesn't work on my iPhone. I just get a gray screen which is the same screen I get when having all my normal security settings on any computer. The device seems to work and be recording since there are files on my external hard drive (when I checked after unplugging it) and the blue light stays on or flashing but why is it so hard to view the 4 split screen and use the playback feature which is the main reason for purchase? Read other reviews on this site or Amazon, D-Link forums. It seems that I'm not the only one dealing with these issues recently. For those that got it all up and running smoothly any tips? Operating system, internet application, settings, etc... This item has been returned.

Piece of junk, don't waste your money!!!

I was in the market for a system to be able to keep an eye on my elderly parents. They have numerous health issues and I cant be there all the time. I thought that maybe it would be good to be able to check in on them throughout the day. Since then Mom has been moved out to a nursing home and Dad is home with home health aids. I was not crazy about having strangers come in to take care of him but we had no other choice. This system was supposed to make things more manageable but... it has only made things worse. After months of this recorder and cameras becoming my part time job I have given up to the fact that I have been ripped off again by unscrupulous manufacturers selling equipment that doesn't work! I thought I would be getting an easy to set up system so I bought a Dlink router and 4 Dlink cameras and the Dlink DNR-202L NVR. I don't know why I was surprised when it took 5 hours to even get the system to link up because of the immediate need for updating of firmware. The firmware upgrade on each camera takes over 30 minutes as did the DNR. The cameras connected but much to my surprise... I couldn't connect to the system remotely. I called Dlink support and they told me that I needed to update the firmware that I had updated immediately out of the box. So, I took the cameras down and connected these wireless cameras directly to the router because they cant be updated wirelessly... when I was finished they seemed ok in the house while I was connected to the same router with my PC. But, once I went to a remote location, I could not connect to the system again. This went on with calls to Dlink support 2 times a week. Every time I called they needed me to be onsite and I needed to update the firmware! The cameras would disconnect, I would see black screens and sometimes I could get an image but then... no sound. Well, I have had this system for 3 miserable months and now, I can see the cameras.. mostly... but trying to look back on recorded video and audio is nearly impossible. When I am able to connect, the audio is SOOOOOO choppy that it is unintelligible. I called to complained to Dlink support numerous times. they always need me to update. Shouldn't this junk work out of the box? Updates should be for enhancements and changes... not to try to make it work. I will be calling in the morning to fight with them about getting a refund on the whole system because it is useless. I tried to give this no stars but the system wouldn't allow it

I had a little problem getting the DNR to record, so I called up tech. support and got a hold of George ( AR004206) He hooked up to my computer and had it up and working in less then 10 minutes. He also explained what needed to be done and why it wasn't working. The customer support was great.

    Great DVR solution

First let me say you will need some level of technical ability, and time to tinker around with settings to get everything (mostly) set up the way you want. My main issue, was having trouble accessing recorded footage. With some help from the internet I was able to locate a number for Dlink (877-453-5465). I have little to no expectations when calling a company for technical support. So I was shocked to find the agent (Employee # AR004642) extremely helpful, knowledgeable and was able to solve my issue by remoting into my pc and showing me how to change java's settings to allow access to the ip address of the DNR-202L. Unless I'm missing something, one issue Dlink can hopeful find a resolution for is the ability to simultaneously have record on motion detection AND email alerts (pictures) with the ability to enable/disable email alerts. If you have both on you will get never ending alerts. If you turn it off you no longer get recording on motion detection. The only other option I see is leave recording on 100% of the time, which is pointless.

I bought this DNR along with 3 cameras and an outdoor camera for security and found that you need to know A LOT about computers do be able to set this up. I needed to call for help several times due to problems and found that the people on the help line were wonderful and very helpful. I just wish I could have been able to fix any problems that come up on my own. The user manual I found on the internet is poorly written and now help at all for me. For a friendly user product this is not. If I could I would exchange this product for something more friendly.

First and foremost, camera and recorder are not easy to setup. Took a long time setting up 2 cameras and 1 recorder (about 2 hours). The good thing is I did not do it alone. Got a very patient tech support rep named Misha C6751469. Very pleasant to work.

I got this to go along with some dcs-2630L cameras with the intent of recording. I made it all the way to step 3 or 4 by myself then I needed to call dlink tech support and they were fantastic. Laine AR004296 held my hand to walk me through it all, including setting up the app on my tablet. There is no way I could have done it myself. It took about an hour to get it all set up. 5* all around.

    Ineffective Device

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I'm fairly tech savvy but that doesn't help if the info required isn't published or noted in any of the install documentation. I finally had to call DLink to get the secrets. The setup finally works great and I have no issues with the features - in fact, they're great but the product DNR-202L doesn't work well. When viewing or recording the camera feeds (on the DNR-202L) they constantly disconnect and have to reconnect .. This makes for erratic viewing and missing gaps on recordings. Viewing the cameras (with mydlink) works seamlessly so it must be the 202L that can't hold the connection to the cameras (930L and a 933L). I found a software solution that provides all the same features plus it allows me to use an additional USB web cam - so I can see all three at the same time and record whichever (or all) that I like. I will be returning the product

I'm sorry, but this is a piece of junk. Could not get the device to work in a mac environment or with Chrome, and the installer for Mac doesn't work with newer Mac OS systems. Save yourself the hassle and buy something else.
