They save the TomTom from undue wear and tear. My original unit wound up with a power issues as it would separate from the windshield and I would loop the power cord around the mirror. Not a great solution. When I bought my next TomTom I picked up a dashboard mount as well and didn't have any issues with the gps falling, my ex uses both to this day.

I purchased the Tom Tom GPS mount for a safer trip. We used the GPS on her iPhone but I do wish it came in a more compact model because she has a smaller car. Still need the weight but the larger size tended to move at times. It is an excellent product.
