    Best Value for Quality

I auditioned the whole line of Bipolar Super Tower 8000-series speakers before buying. I sampled different source music and video at three separate Best Buy locations. I was duly impressed by all of the speakers, but there was a difference with the BP8020ST towers that have 150watt subs built in and the 8040 and 8060 towers that have 300watt subs. The difference was dramatic, not taking anything away from the 8020s. Since I was buying open box speakers, I decided to go for broke, as they say, and get the 8060s. Boy was I glad I did! I recently purchased a new Onkyo 170watt/channel amp and it has the power to drive these speakers to wondrous heights, sonically speaking. The bass output is strong, and the midrange and highs from the other speakers are absolutely amazing with the right source. I also bought a new DVD player just so I could play CDs and DVDs at their best representation. I spent at least 2 days listening to music and watching movies after I set them up in my living room. At this point I don't feel there is a need for a separate subwoofer but I am definitely going to pair these with the ProMonitor 1000 rear surround speakers, also from Definitive Technology. At the same time I bought the towers I also got the CS8060HD Center Channel speaker, which has a 150watt driver and sounds amazing paired with these towers. Once I get the rear surrounds set up I will be in heaven, I'm sure!

Fantastic Speaker at this price point

Picked these up for $699 each a few weeks ago after holding off for quite a while since they were at the $999 price point for a while. I could not be happier with this purchase. I have these paired with a Definitive CLR3000 Center, and a Bose Acoustimass for my high fronts and rears, going through a Pioneer Elite SC-95. These speakers add an entirely new dimension to my (previously just the Bose) living room. Using the 2 sub outputs into these towers adds a tremendous amount of punch (have the speakers dialed about 2/5 of the way, and it's plenty powerful). At this price point (and even going into the $1k range), there really isn't a better speaker on the market right now.

    LOVE THE SPEAKERS

Have been scouring reviews and deciding on a pair of floor standing speakers for stereo music/home theater use for some time. I am also size- and wife-constrained - no space for a separate giant subwoofer. I went in to sample these and a few other speakers at Best Buy's Magnolia Center, they were amazing - and discovered they were on sale that week (wasn't advertised, but speakers were $700/each instead of $999) so I was sold! These 8060ST's were the perfect solution. They work wonderfully paired with a Marantz NR1506 (50 Watts/channel @ 8 ohms). I have a large high-ceiling TV room (14' x 18' x 14' tall ceilings, completely open to the kitchen) and these speakers do a great job of filling it with sound. ... I've never had to turn the volume up above 65%. They look great, sound great, and don't take up much space.

I love everything about these speakers! Some of the best sound I've ever heard, and the bass is enough that I don't need a subwoofer. Seriously, these things brought movie theater quality sound into my home and I love them! The only thing you need to consider when buying this is that the cord for the powered sub is VERY short. If your outlet is on the side of your room (like mine was) you'll probably need an extension cord!

Definitive technology in my opinion is a top of the line speaker that will rival any high-end speaker. These speakers are bi-polar, huge sound with built-in 300 watt self powered subwoofer. Great for movies or music. I would recommend definitive technology to anyone looking for a quality speaker system who is willing to spend the dollars, you will not be disappointed.

Love these! Sound is wonderful, full and crisp. Bass is very powerful, but love the fact that I can always turn down the bass if I find it over powering. Just wish the grill for the speakers did not go all the way to the floor, if you have animals you will be using the lint roller on them.

The sound quality is amazing, and the bass is good enough for the room I have them in. Unless you are trying to fill a very large room or if you just really love a lot of bass then you absolutely do not need another subwoofer. These things make you feel the noise with the bass on halfway and they are not sloppy whatsoever. Great buy.

Alright here's the story. I went to best buy to look at receivers in magnolia. Found a receiver that I wanted and the magnolia sales guy showed me these def techs. I fell in love immediately. The center channel is so crisp and clear. As the volume gets louder everything still sounds great. Needless to say I came back the next day and bought the 8040 center, 8060 towers, and the 8040 surrounds. These speakers are heavy so I know that they are great quality. Hope to have them a lifetime and truly believe I will. The only thing that I was disappointed was that best buy only had 1 speaker in stock and had to order the second. That makes no sense but I'm overall pleased.

This speaker is great with a warm mid range sound for listening to music plus it has good low bass for the action movies. I did buy the ST8020 which sounded decent but the bass was a bit boomy and it was missing the warm sound of the mids which is 3 1/2 mids to the 4 1/2 mids on ST8060, but what a difference.

I have been a def tech fan and customer for over 20 years. My first def tech speakers were a pair of BP3000TL's. They were huge and heavy at over 130 LBs each. Back in 1995 they were an audiophile's dream. I also have a pair of 8020ST's currently in use. The 8060's are the front towers of my HT system along with an 8060 center channel and a pair of SR-8040BP's in the rear. The 8060 speakers have an excellent sound stage and the imaging is phenomenal. What I like best is that these speakers are equally adept for music and HT. I scooped these up when they were on sale for 699.00 each but even at 999.00 each they are a terrific value. def tech's customer support is excellent as well.

We purchased these speakers for our home theater we are putting in our basement. We liked the idea of not needing a separate sub-woofer, but were a little skeptical about them being sufficient. We had nothing to worry about. Our theater isn't finished yet, so to test we hooked them up to our system in our family room, turned up the volume, and started playing 'The Polar Express', which just happened to be in the player at the time. We had the volume up at a level much higher than we would normally watch a movie and the speakers sounded great. They were very clear and plenty loud and the base seemed sufficient. Then we came to the part in the movie where the train pulls up in front of the house. Let me tell you, it shook our house. Literally. Our kids came down from upstairs wondering what was happening. It sounded like the train was in our house. We didn't just hear the train, we felt it. These speakers are awesome! Now we just have to hope our theater soundproofing is sufficient -- a problem I'm more than happy to have to deal with. ;-)

I mainly use mine to listen to music, and the music sounds amazing coming out of these. If you are only listening to music, you do not need to connect the sub wire to it. With my AV receiver, I couldn't tell a difference with it connected or not. The crossover inside the speaker picks up the bass from the incoming speaker line. There is plenty of bass in these speakers. The mids and highs also sound great. The bipolar feature is great. It makes everything more encompassing.

Best speakers I have ever owned. Very high quality. Built in subs provide a lot of bass. I'd recommend a stand alone sub as well to fill in the bass.

I put all the speaker wiring into a home theater and hooked up the speaker jacks for banana plugs to be used. Geek Squad then unpacked and set up the 8060 towers. Each had its own subwoofer. Easy to plug in and play. The towers were everything I had heard at the Magnolia Home Theater Store in Roseville and then some. The subs performed flawlessly and it was nice to hear them quiet down during conversational parts of the movie. Would easily recommend Def Tech speakers.

I was running 14 year old JBL's for a 5.1 system. I was looking for an upgrade. I started researching and Definitive Technology kept coming up. So, I went in for a listening. I was impressed. But, I knew that the acoustics in the Magnolia room was a lot better than mine. I purchased the 5.1 system although the towers have subwoofers built in I wanted the stand alone sub. Now I'm setup and enjoy the sound immensely I would recommend.
