The drive comes with an app that was supposed to play most DVDs, but it didn't support the necessary file type. It was adequate for my primary need was to manage files replacing the failed onboard disk drive on my laptop.

I was gladly surprised that DELL makes a DVD External prayer. It is my experience that if you need anything - computer - laptop or any external drive, consider DELL...the top in quality and price

I bought this so I could watch dvd's on my Dell Laptop Computer. The picture quality is good for watching movies. I also used the CD-Rom drive to upload software so that I could set-up my Canon Image Laser Printer, and it worked fine.
