The laptop I bought did not have a DVD port but several USB ports. This product completely fulfills my needs. I would buy it again if I needed another DVD drive.

This DVD External Drive includes the software to be able to actually play DVDs with Windows 10, since Microsoft froze up the Windows Media Player with the upgrade.

The separate USB cable is awkward and much bigger than necessary. It would be much better with a small, attached, recessed cable like on some HP drives. It works just fine though.

I purchased a new Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 10, and as most new laptops it didn’t include a DVD drive. I purchased this external USB drive, plugged it in to a USP port and voila, the computer recognizes the DVD drive. Then I inserted the included DVD and installed its software, which just happens to include DVD player software. Installation went smoothly.
Long story short... The external drive was able to read and run the included software DVD, but was unable to play a new out-of-the-box DVD movie. I was able to watch the movie on a Sony DVD player connected to a Sony TV; so the problem wasn’t the media.
Who to blame? Maybe Windows 10, maybe the DVD drive.

Very cheaply built and very flimsy. I'm afraid it won't stand the test of time. Might be OK to download software only, but not good for a regular music cd player. Makes way too much whirling noise. I am very disappointed with this product from Dell.

no problems with dvd drive. just plug into usb port in computer and play or record. small and solidly built. dell is dependable, reliable and good quality for the price.
