    It allowed me to use it with a laptop that does not have a CD/DVD player and also with a laptop that has a non-working CD/DVD player. The software that comes with the unit only works on one chosen computer though.

    Hard to beat the price and it works just like it's supposed to. Was going to get a different laptop just because it included optical drive but was bigger and heavier, so glad I went this route.

    I had tried other brands of external dvd drives for my msi laptop, but kept having compatibility issues. The Dell dvd drive worked like a charm, first time. Absolutely no issues, whisper quiet, exactly what I was looking for. Two thumbs way up!

    performed perfectly; solved my lots of audio CDs and old DVDs and no drive on the laptop issue. Probably could have gotten similar item for less, but this unit seems solid & reliable.

    I recently got a laptop without a disc drive and wanted something primarily for uploading my old cd collection because I am a dinosaur. That is all that I've used it for so far but it has worked perfectly. No issues at all.
