Great quality laptop for the price

I was initially looking for a laptop to use for school that also has huge memory since I like editing and videos. Having 2TB Hard Drive plus 256 SSD for this price is such a great deal. It boots up so fast. I also like how it has fingerprint recognition when signing up making it so convenient. I love how big and sharp the screen is. The battery life is also good. The only two things I do not like about this laptop is the quality of the webcam, and also there are several times that the laptop freezes while in the middle of doing something. When it does freeze I had to wait for the battery to die because it sometimes would not let me force shut down the laptop. But other than those two issues I do not have any other complains regarding this laptop. I still would hightly recommend this laptop!

Great computer but comes with no orientation

The computer is great. Great big screen. It has the DVD slot for those who still need or want to load things that way or watch movies. It has a built-in camera and microphone so it makes it easy to use with SKYPE. Huge memory. So many great features. But the darn thing does not come with any user manual, website address, phone number, whatsoever. There was no paper in the box at all that would even give you the beginning orientation of where to find stuff on-line. Dell needs to reconsider how much it assumes of the person purchasing this product. Not everyone is a super high-tech Geek wizard. At least some basic orientation material should be given. Give any reasonable person a website link directly to the user manual and they could figure things out form there. It's just good common sense customer relations.

This computer is really more computer than I needed but I am so happy I chose it over the others. The two TB drive provides plenty of space for all my storage needs. And the solid state drive allows quick startup and space for the apps.
I would buy this Dell again just wish it would have been a little less expensive

At one point in my life I said I would never own a Dell computer or laptop because when they first started you got much less for a lot more money. I have owned all HP's. The only reason I purchased this Dell laptop was because I thought it had a split button separate from the touch pad. It does have a small split in the front middle that separates the left and right but they are not a raised left and right click that I was looking for. Basically it's the same touch pad that is in every other laptop out there right now.
The 1st) thing you notice about this Dell laptop is how bright the screen is, excellent display and very sharp colors and graphics. 2nd), is how fast it boots up. The solid state drive is great but if you are a novice you may want to think twice before purchasing any solid state because you will have to remap the destinations of some of your folders: Your download, document, videos, and so on to your D drive. You will also need to remember to install certain programs to your D drive instead of your C drive. 4th), there's more than ample space to store whatever you're in to. It comes with 16MB of ram which is significant at this point in time for most daily needs. I was looking for 32MB because I do a lot of editing and multitasking but 16MB is nothing to sneeze at.
The pros of this computer outweigh the cons and for me the only con was the touch pad. So far I'm very happy with this purchase and chose to give it a 4-star rating because nothing is perfect and the touch pad was not what I was looking for. I would definitely recommend this laptop.

I do a lot of video work & this computer suits me well. I am able to use the large drive to keep my DropBox local & the SSD is perfect for quick starts. Plenty of RAM to keep up with my needs. Love this laptop!

Gamer level laptop computer with 17.3 screen

High end specifications for a laptop computer. It has a 256GB SSD and a 2TB Hard drive for speed and capacity. The only reason that it didn't get 5 stars was that the Ethernet card only supports 10-100Mbps speeds, not the Dell Giga 1000Mbps capability that I expected from a gamer's level computer. I have added an external Ethernet 10-100-1000Mbps plug in to USB3 port to fix this issue.

Microsoft is far too intrusive with it's requirements of use of this Dell product. I have disabled many features that have just been added automatically in the initial set up.
I would like to be ask what my requirements are at the time of set up rather than needing to search for what has all been installed without my knowledge.
The touch pad is completely flat without the definition between the touch and the right and left buttons that my old Dell XPS 17" had. You need to look at the pad which slows typing down. It is also not very responsive; often I need to tap the pad multiple times to get a response.

robbi,
Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear that your computer is not working exactly the way you hoped it would. If you'd like to re-calibrate your touchpad you can follow these steps: Some Notebooks and Tablets with Keyboards have added gesture features to the touchpad hardware and drivers. A few of these features are two or three finger scrolling, pinch zoom, circle zoom, rotate and swiping. These new features may be the reason for the erratic cursor movement since most are turned on by default. You can disable or modify the way the features work in the touchpad driver properties.
Here are some tips to modify these settings:
1. In the Search box, type main.cpl. 2. Touch or click main.cpl in the list of programs. 3. Touch or click the Dell Touchpad tab. 4. Touch or click on the picture of the touchpad. 5. Touch or click Gestures (depending on your computer there may not be a Gestures option). 6. Change the options as preferred. 7. Touch or click Save. 8. Touch or click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Dell Touchpad Utility. 9. Touch or click OK on the Mouse Properties window. 10. If the touchpad still does not work after following the preceding steps, refer to Dell Knowledge Base article - http://dell.to/2iaiujA.

I’m very satisfied with my new Dell laptop. It has plenty of memory, boots and shuts down very fast, the display is quite good, and the performance is much better than I expected for a laptop in this price range.

Spoiler alert, product now appears ok, but there can be a patience cost. Conditional recommendation if willing to absorb a bit of extra effort to save $.
Bought "excellent" open box Dell, 17 inch, 16g ram, 256g ssd, 2t hdd, 8th gen I-7, at about 300 to 400 less than what could buy anything comparable.
Upon receipt, ssd didn't show up in configuration and WASN'T there, (perhaps previous person bought, took out ssd and returned and best buy didn't notice? Dell screwup?), Prompt service from dell adding ssd, but tech loaded operating system on hdd instead of ssd.
hdd wouldn't identify, config shows sdd there, but no access, another return to/from dell,
upon return, o/s on ssd, but not recognizing the hdd!, prompt and efficient chat and dell's version of "teamviewer" promptly resolved settings. 3rd time's a charm?
In sum, now tremendously faster/upgrade from my old 8g ram, I-3. Great service from Dell, even with the tech screwup, agent appeared to be rather upset with that, with rather forceful assurances of consequences and promise of quick turnaround, promise kept (thursday fed ex pickup, monday fed ex return).
This was last chance for this purchase, 4/29 30 days return up, so if survives the weekend, it's mine.

My wife needed to replace her 7 year old laptop that she uses for work from home. This has proven to be a great choice. The bigger screen is helpful when running multiple windows at the same time and the laptop is extremely fast.

I was looking for a computer with a solid state drive because they boot so much faster, but the SSD drives are typically so small, I was thinking I would end up with an external USB 3.0 drive to hold any mass quantity of data... until I found this laptop! Now I have the best of both worlds!
