I bought this laptop to replace my desktop, but also needed a laptop for travel. I now have the best of both worlds. I bought a docking station and monitor for home use and take my laptop with me when I travel. Performance is outstanding in both home and travel modes.

Dell has really done a great job with this laptop. If you want a very fast response, this is the laptop for you. Some people may want a larger screen - i am sure the 15" version would be just as good. And, i was fortunate to get this at a great price since it was an open box item.

I really do like the functionality the 2 in 1 laptop offers, even if the Dell 2 in 1 screen stays attached to the keyboard (unlike say the Surface for example). If you can look past that, it really is a great laptop for those on go or in school. Remember, 2 in 1 laptops aren't recommended for high processing power tasks - photo shop, 4K or 3D video editing, etc. Although you can most definitely perform those tasks, it takes noticeably longer to complete them. If you use it as intended, it's definitely worth every penny. A couple notes after using this for a few months: It is as light as a feather and works great for traveling. Charges rapidly, you can get above 75% about an hour (from dead). Battery life is definitely on the low end of what is advertised. If you plan on gaming or streaming lots of videos, or using photo shop - the computer heats up rather quickly, so be careful, it is not indented for much gaming use. Although I love the touch screen aspect, I definitely recommending getting a stylus with the computer too. You lose a number of ports choosing the 2 in 1 model here, as you do with most laptops of this style. Just note that you will need to get a port hub that will be additional money. (NOTE: It does come with a USB C to USB A adapter).

    Hardware Issues and Poor Support

I reviewed a lot of laptops before finally choosing this one. I got it home and on the first boot, the BIOS displayed an error that no hard drive was installed. I rebooted and all was fine. Over the next two weeks, I had issues with the laptop not always going to sleep, not waking from sleep, randomly rebooting or shutting off, making high pitched squealing noises when plugged in, and blue screens. Doing research, all of these appear to be somewhat common for this laptop. I also had a few more times where it would complain that no hard drive was installed. I tried updating the bios, drivers, windows updates etc and nothing seemed to help. I contacted Dell support but after a few messages back and forth, they just had me try the same things over and over. I decided to return the laptop and went with a different one instead. I was pretty disappointed because I otherwise really liked the laptop. The touchscreen is awesome and the performance was great. Despite all of this, Best Buy made the return process really easy, which was a plus.

Easy to transport, good responsive keyboard, very fast. It may be a little too soon to have a 4k screen however since software hasn't quite caught up to the resolution. Battery life not quite as advertised.

I really like the computer. The small size and the fact that I can't drop the keyboard is great. I carry mine around at work so I like the fact that it is all ONE piece. What I HATED was that when I bought it, the computer would not shut down. If you tried, within a second windows would reboot. I call Geek Squad. They were absolutely NO help. They said to bring it back and get a new one. I looked on the internet and this is a common for not only this one but multiple other computers. I asked the GS what's the chance of the next computer doing the same thing. Again no help. I could not find a fix on the internet just the problem. The IT person at work actually had the solution. After searching the net and not finding the solution, he ACTUALLY called Dell. Amazing it was setting issue with the new windows and has worked great. Sorry I am not a tech person so I can't tell you what he did but it is fixable. Mine shuts down and no overheating problems that people talk about in the reviews.

    As enjoyable as my Mac

I've been a Mac guy for years. In the past 6 months I've needed a PC for many scenarios but dragged my feet not wanting to rock the boat. Finally, I stopped in to Best Buy in Folsom and talked with Erik who helped me purchase this computer from his passion for the product and to resolve my fear of change. It was an open box computer and I ended up finding out that the previous buyer had completely wiped it and loaded Linux. Unfortunately the Geek Squad did not catch this and loaded Windows 10 back on to it without properly restoring it. I spent 3 days on the phone with Dell and finally got it resolved when they were able to supply me with a physical copy of Windows 10 to properly restore everything. While my experience with Erik was incredible, I was definitely disappointed with the fact that Geek Squad missed it on this. Final result is that I absolutely love this 2 in 1 computer! I still use my Mac a lot; now I can complete things that are PC specific and explore the world of PC without fear of change. The learning curve is real, but overall the computer and Windows 10 seem to be quite intuitive. Thanks for the recommendation, Erik.

I think if this convertible wanted to compete with the flagship XPS line, it would need to substitute the mobile i7 for the U-series i7. It does stutter here and there, but love every other aspect of the pc. For the price though, they should choose the U series processor (although you may need to sacrifice some thinness).

    Keyboard Issues

Literally everything about this computer is amazing, except it’s keyboard. There is something wrong with this model that causes the keyboard to not keep up. I can write “there” a dozen times and it will miss the last “e” every single time. I think it’s an issue with the keyboard sensitivity. It registers the second press of a key as the same as the first. I tried to get the issue fixed until I found out that every one of this type of computer does this. A huge disappointment as I loved the computer. I had to return it and get something else. I can’t program with a computer that makes typing mistakes.

Dell - XPS 2-in-1 13.3" Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - 512GB Solid State Drive - Silver. Very fast, but the keyboard is very touchy. Seems to get extremely hot when the battery is charging.

When I purchased this laptop, I was excited because I requested the best hard drive, RAM, Processor and it was a touch screen which no Apple product contains. I kept the laptop for about 20 days and was unable to master the touchpad. The clicking was ok, but when you try scrolling and moving the cursor around, the erratic touchpad went all over the screen. I reloaded drivers, researched the web, and could not get the touchpad to perform as I wanted. Certainly I could have used a mouse with no trouble and did so for a couple of days, but had to ask why spend nearly $2k and have a touch pad that doesn't work? I returned the laptop to Best Buy and was fortunate to be within the 30 day window to where my entire purchased was refunded.

I love it's compact design, the display is great and it's very fast. However, we have had a few of these and have had to send a couple to Geek Squad. I can see why they are discontinuing this model.

It's amazing how far computers have advanced. I buy a computer about once every 10 years. My last laptop was a 16 inch screen. This current one is 13 inch and I don't miss the loss of screen size. This is the best laptop so far in the 30 years I've been buying home computers. I love the 2 in 1 touch screen.

I replaced my 6 year old laptop, and boy this laptop is fast. My old one was also 13", but this one is so much smaller and lighter. It does take some time to get used to lack of traditional USB drive. But it did come with an adapter.

Overall I would say this product is a better value in comparing to MS surface. Has a better processor, higher memory and comparable pixels.Too bad the keyboard can't be removed but some reviews say MS surface has an issue there anyway. MS also has reduced use time with the keyboard removed.

I was really on the fence about this machine, especially at it's retail pricing, however when it was about half off for an open-box unit during the 2-Day Sale a week or two back, I had to pick this unit up - and I am so glad I did! From start to finish, setup itself took around 30 minutes for me to be up and running for initial use; however fully updating the software and patches for Windows 10, CABC, and some other minor fixes took around 6 hours. Since then, the battery is a bit of a hit and miss affair with brightness at any level, but the device preforms very well. The 4k model is worth the minor increase in cost as compared to the 1080P panel (for me, this difference was $3 during the sale) and the adaptive color tones are great for night-time usage before bed. The hinges are definitely sturdy, but overly so as they cant be made to be flush if laying the laptop flat (this happens frequently for my workflow and use cases). The pen input works fairly well, although this accessory is overpriced to the value and level of precision offered on this laptop - while it works in a pinch, fans of pen input should consider a Surface Pro or Samsung Chromebook/Note Phone instead, despite the massive difference in prices. For my usage, this device works well but like all consumer laptops, is missing LTE capability which is my single biggest complaint with any laptop on the market today, and is extremely disappointing. As this unit does not have an LTE option in any capacity, I ordered a Lenovo X1 Carbon. When that laptop arrives, it will become my primary device and this one will be relegated to casual-use duty, though based on it's current performance should mean this device is in use for many years to come, even with what is effectively a Core-M processor. The real value was specifically because Best Buy had open box models available - this was the best deal available in the sub $1000 ultra-book category, and makes it best-in-class when on sale, but at retail much less of a value compared to other manufacturers and features on offer.

I love this laptop because it is very light with a large enough screen to do the job for most occasions. The only negative is the lack of ports so plan on getting a port replicator of some kind to go along with the laptop

I bought this for my son who loves it. He used to own a Macbook Pro and now loves this as it has Windows 10, touch screen and the convenience to flip and tum into a tablet when needed. He use it on the recent Europe trip and says that it is pretty powerful laptop for all general purpose use, photo editing, web browsing and definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a portable and powerful laptop.

i got this as an open box, so full disclosure. the retail price is high. it works well once you fully patch windows 10 AND install all the Dell drivers (from their support site). there are studder issues with the intel Y series processors that these patches help fix. if you like the form factor but don't need the 2in1 feature, there is a regular 13" xps that is more powerful and about the same price. also - dave lee has a good reciew on youtube if you want more info/opinions.
