Great 1st GO at High-end Wireless Earbuds DEVIALET

The Devialet Gemini comeback story begins… the main issues are fixed regarding the software bugs and connectivity issues. We now have a stable and POWERFUL set of ANC earbuds for your listening pleasure. If you know Devialet, you are to expect nothing but excellence and fantastic sound. If you have not heard of Devialet, be prepared for a SWEET introduction to incredible sound from their first entry into the earbud market. I am glad to see Devialet bounce back to provide another viable ANC earbud for our listening pleasure. First and foremost, these look and sound AMAZING!!!! Build quality is top-notch and made of high-quality materials. The Phantom speaker design language is present, and you will like these if you are into Devialet's minimalistic styling. From the case to the actual buds, you will NOT question the build of these, and in fact, using these will reassure you of your purchase. OVERVIEW Setup 4/5 Build 5/5 Sound 5/5 ANC 5/5 Battery 4/5 App & Features 2/5 Call Quality 2/5 SETUP/BUILD. The Gemini setup was straightforward. Open the earbuds, find your tips, remove the blue tape from the contacts, charge the case (Qi compatible), and pair them using the Bluetooth menu. For the REAL experience, download the Devialet Gemini app for customizations. I instantly notice that these sound GREAT, especially if you tweak the EQ (it works) to your liking. The flat EQ setting is an excellent balanced sound profile. Most buds are not affected by the EQ in-app, but these you can definitely notice every time a change is made. I found that if I put the case on a charger first, the case would be "activated," and you could get it to pair after removing the blue tape from each earbud. After they are "charged", you can pair them in the app. SOUND. In my experience, the Geminis are at the top for sound quality in the wireless ANC space, ESPECIALLY at the $299 price point. Lows and mids are powerful and clean, with sharp separation between bass and mids. Vocals do not sound processed and are just clear studio-quality sound and not warm to my ear. Things were not tinny or piercing at any point and stayed quite balanced, even while at higher volumes. The soundstage sounds tight and controlled. They don't feel wide or airy like some other buds out there and stay true to Devialet's sound. If you like the Phantom and Reactor speakers' design, you will like these. If you turn on ANC, the sound quality is slightly different, but many will not worry. ANC. ANC is superb and performs with the best of them… also a top 3 in this category. These do an excellent job of blocking out voices and creating a "silent room" in noisy environments. I have no complaints with ANC except every now, and then I could hear a slight white noise but it isn't too bad. My wife couldn't hear it so your results may vary. The experience overall is great until you have to interact with the touch controls. The touch interface is where things take a hard turn for me. I HATE these touch controls and the lack of options for customization. I will only say this is good for play/pause and switch between transparency and ANC modes. I believe this is where they should lose the "truly wireless" moniker because you TRULY MUST use your phone for simple things like volume control and voice control. You must choose between VOICE ASSISTANT and SKIPPING/REPLAYING songs for your "customizing" pleasure. This is a FAIL in my book for this price point. I would expect some more functionality in this department for the price. BATTERY. Battery life will vary depending on usage (volume, ANC, transparency, etc.). I used mine around 65% volume without ANC (neutral mode) and was able to get through three full workdays before NEEDING to recharge the case. With my NORMAL use, not TESTING, I will have my ears/case on a wireless charger at my desk, so they are always charged when I need them. For some detail, I talk on the phone for maybe 2-3 hours, listen to music for about 2 hours, or they go in the case. In summation, I concur battery life is AT LEAST as advertised, but mileage will vary. I charge the case every other day while using these about 8 hours a day at work and putting them back in the case to charge. By keeping them in the case, you will always have enough to talk. APP & FEATURES. Now - the app… this is the GLARING WEAKNESS for the Geminis, and I will sum it up in one word, COMPROMISE. While the main things with software were fixed regarding stability and connectivity issues and app, the app remains handicapped and unfinished with LOTS of room for polish and features. The biggest plus of the app is still the EQ! This is one of the few EQs you will use to NOTICE every change in the six bands provided. Now, we must get to the rest of it, and it isn't good. The interface is VERY basic and limited. I need to use my phone for EVERYTHING like VOL, skipping and repeating tracks, and using a voice assistant. Whatever you choose, you will basically have to give up something else. On Gemini 2, I expect to see BIG STRIDES in the app and polish the overall experience we are used to seeing with the Phantom and Reactor lineups. CALL QUALITY. Call quality is just OK or mediocre at best. This is partially due to there only being 1 microphone dedicated to calls. The overall shape encourages wind noise with the "dip" into the touch control - much like when you cup your ear to hear a little better. Most people said they could tell I was on earbuds and could hear lots of background noise. On a scale of 1-5, this is a firm 2 and a weak point for sure - but hey, did we buy these to do work and talk all day, or was it their sound and small form factor that won you over? NOTABLY NOT PRESENT are features like HiFi codecs, no multiple device connections, no simultaneous multi-device connections, no power-save auto-off features, no background noise mic canceling, and TOUCH CUSTOMIZABILITY - did I mention no multi-device connections? SMH. Pick one and reconnect to another. Do yourself a favor and "forget" the connection to avoid repairing the previously connected device. A PITA for $300 the fact you must re-pair EACH TIME. Things I Noted -Anytime you touch them, you hear a clicking noise while in ANC mode from what I presume is the speaker. Touch controls are delayed and not the greatest. -When cycling through modes using touch controls, you only get transparency and ANC modes. I want NEUTRAL in there too because it is THE BEST way to listen to these. -The way to overcome the lack of touch controls is to use the voice assistant. These REALLY need a way to control the volume on the buds themselves. Touch controls for swipes could be added for volume. -Pairing was a pain with Apple. You need to manually connect to the Geminis rather than trust the app to link up to the case. The case will connect just fine with the "LE," but the actual earbuds do not connect until you tap it in the Bluetooth settings. Pairing with Android was easier since the case did not automatically pair instead of the headphones. Pros Wireless charging case WITH REPLACEABLE battery Sound quality Functioning EQ XS Ear tips (one more size for small ears) Cons -Case - battery levels can only be accurately known when buds are in the case, and it is open while being connected to the app. -No auto power-off or power save option. -Buds stay on if IN case and the case is slid open. -Limited touch controls -No quick charge advertised. How much juice in a pinch? -Cannot use both earbuds interchangeably for music or calls, you must use the right if you need only one bud in. As soon as you close the case, the disconnection happens when using only left bud. -No simultaneous multiconnection. No multi-device connections. One device per pair. -Sometimes, reconnection problems when connecting/disconnecting a single bud after the initial connection. -No usable background noise cancellation. You can hear any wind or noise in the background. -Bluetooth 5.0 BLE/2.4GHz not 5.2 -APTX support but no HiFi codecs. LDAC would have been nice. In short, these are great-sounding earbuds, but for the price, there are better overall experiences out there. These feel like their first go at it, and the app is unfinished and needs polish. These will be good in a few years after they work out the software side of things. Hardware-wise, these are excellent. But if you are a fan of Devialet and great sound but not looking for high marks in call quality.

I have tested multiple premium truly wireless earbuds over the last couple of years and for the last 3 days I've been testing the Devialet Gemini earbuds. Overall, I think they are an excellent set of earbuds however, they are not perfect. The Devialet Gemini earbuds include some premium features that I have come to expect for its premium price. Such as, 3 levels of noise cancelling and transparency modes, an app with an equalizer, 24-hour battery life, waterproofing, and wireless charging. If you are surprised to see wireless charging on this list, I was too. Devialet makes no mention of wireless charging anywhere on the box nor the product webpage. But I have tested it and can confirm the Gemini buds have it. When it comes to performance, these earbuds sound amazing. Out of the box, with no tuning they sound great. However, when you use the equalizer to customize the sound, they go from sounding great to amazing. My favorite preset is "Bass" which is obviously the bass boost setting. While using this preset, the earbuds delivered the best bass performance I have ever heard come out of an earbud. I am no sound engineer but I’m guessing this superior bass is a product of the built-in Ear Active Matching (EAM) technology. Noise canceling and transparency modes. I would say they have best in class performance. When I put the earbuds into my ears the world around me just melted away. Then with a long press of one of the buds, it seamlessly switched into transparency mode. Which sounded like a tunnel to the world was reopened. As for battery life and charging. The earbuds and case performed well. After 3 days of intermittent use the buds only used 32% of the energy stored in the case. This is when I discovered the wireless charging. I unintentionally placed the buds on my charging mat and was surprised to see the charging light illuminate. In disbelief, I waited 15 minutes to see if it was charging, and it was. Also surprising, was that in those 15 minutes, the case was fully charged. I mentioned earlier that these earbuds are not devoid of any flaws. In my use, I found that when stationary and not moving, the earbuds fit well and were comfortable. However, when walking, shaking my head or eating they would easily work their way loose. Bluetooth connectivity worked great as long as the buds were within 20 feet of my phone. Any further and they start to break up. Also, the buds can’t be used individually. If you leave one bud in the case and close it, the other bud will immediately disconnect from your phone. And finally, the shape of the case is not jean pocket friendly. by that I mean, it does fit in my pocket, however, since the case is not smooth, it sticks out like a sore thumb. In summary, I would recommend these to anyone that is looking for phenomenal, customizable, sound quality and noise canceling, but do not intend on using these on the move.

I REALLY like these earbuds, although they aren’t perfect. I really like the Devialet app as well. My Review is separated into three parts; Music, App, and Other (battery, sound modes, phone calls, etc.). For Devialet’s first true wireless earbuds, they did a phenomenal job; you will not be disappointed with these. I’m always in a constant search for the latest true wireless earbuds. I’ve tried perhaps 5-6 pair of the competition, ranging in price from ~$30, to the price point where the Devialet Gemini’s are. I’m satisfied with the Devialet Gemini’s enough to delay the search a bit. MUSIC: Music is exceedingly important to me. These are very remarkable. The sound is rich, detailed, pure / crisp, well-balanced, and powerful, no matter what the music genre. Even music originally recorded in monaural. They did not compromise on the acoustics at all. The bass is amazing; strong, without distorting or over-powering the other frequencies. I’m not a musician or sound engineer, but the bass sounds better on the Devialet Gemini’s than on any comparable competition. I use earbuds under a variety of circumstances, so I’m used to getting my phone out to look for a new track / genre. Even though I cannot adjust the volume directly from the earbuds (you need to do it on your phone), the music sound quality is exceptional if you are using one of the Cancellation modes. The Transparency modes do tend to distort the sound to varying degrees, based on surroundings. APP: The earbuds pair effortlessly to the app. The app is easy to navigate, such as selection of the sound mode. The EQ (equilizer) has six presets, and a ‘Custom’, that you can use to adjust things yourself. It is ‘lost’ in the ‘Gemini Settings’ menu in the upper right hand side of the app. It is simple to use, and it’s easy to see what Sound mode you are using, or change it. OTHER: • Call Quality. Not much to say here. I spoke to people on cell phones and land lines, with a good cell signal, and the call quality was mediocre. Conversations cut in/out. I had at least two dropped calls. I use a good pair of earbuds primarily so my music sounds the best it can be, but when I need to make or take a call, I need reliable and dependable performance. • Fit. The earbuds come with a selection of silicone tips, none of which held them securely in my ear. I used a set of silicone tips from another earbud brand, which held the earbuds securely in my ear and made the music sound better by sealing them in my ear canal. Unfortunately, when I put the earbuds in the case, the lid does not sit flush to the case (that is, the lid sticks up at the far end due to the height of the silicone tips). • Battery. The batteries in the earbuds and case charge quickly due to the USB Type-C. The batteries last better than the competition, even with High noise cancellation being used. The battery percentage is shown in the iPhone’s widget, and also on the Home screen in the app. • Case. The design of the case, with the sliding lid, is very secure versus a magnet, like others use. It is unique and aesthetically ‘cool’ looking. • Sound modes o Transparency. I cannot discern much of a difference in the ‘Transparency’ mode for the ‘Low’ versus the ‘High’ setting, though it seems to work as intended during music playback. During music playback, there is a small, nearly imperceptable ‘hush’ sound in the background; it’s not bad enough to stop you from using the mode. However, when you are not playing music and actually hear the sounds around you, it very much gives a Dolby Atmos feel, where a sound (a fan running, a person talking) has enveloped your ears, so you can’t pinpoint where the sound is. They sound distorted in pitch, and the effect is annoying enough that I don’t use the mode. o Neutral. Nothing much to say about this mode. If there is background noise, and it’s not being processed through a noise cancellation loop circuit or selectively allowed to enter via a Transparency mode, it may interfere with your listening pleasure. I don’t use the setting. o Cancellation. The cancellation works extremely well, and there is a difference I did not travel by plane after ontaining these earbuds, so I’m unable to test the ‘Cancellation – Plane’ sound mode. I tested these with my iPhone 11 PRO running iOS 14.7 and 14.8.

I’ve used these earbuds for about two days now and I can honestly say that these are pretty amazing, with the exception of a few things which I will mention in a moment. The noise canceling in these earbuds are by far the best I’ve used to date. I worked in my yard over the long weekend cutting grass, spreading mulch and power washing my house and I wore these while I worked. To say I was surprised is an understatement. I could barely hear the lawnmower’s engine blasting and the same goes for the power washer. I heard a little bit of the noise, but not nearly as much when I use the other brands of earbuds that I have. I should also mention that r em though I was sweating a lot, the buds never came loose or fell out. Ordinarily when I’m doing yard work or strenuous tasks, I opt for earbuds with a loop that wraps around the ear, just for a more secure fit, but I didn’t need them for these. The controls are really the only negative I can say about these earbuds which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of five. I can never get the taps quite right when I want to change a track. The double taps don’t work well at pretty much any point. I tap the buds once and it will pause the music, but double-tapping to change the track has worked maybe 2 out of 10 times for me. That is pretty annoying to say the least. I find it easier to change the track using my phone instead of the earbuds. Fix that issue and I think this is a 5-star device. The app is functional. Nothing really different than most other apps. You can custom the audio settings, assign what each earbud will do and check battery life and updates. This isn’t a brand that I was familiar with but now they have my attention. Fix the bugs i mentioned above and these will be an awesome product.

We both love music. We listen just relaxing and chilling and whenever outdoor activities safely allow us to do so as well. These have the ability to let you decide how much noise cancellation you want or is safe for your current situation. I seldom block out everything with them as I prefer to stay aware of my surroundings on the street, in the woods or wherever. The sound is rich and clear for my ears( with a little adjusting of my equalizer I can produce a concert that only I can hear while my wife listens to the music she prefers. She has a set of the near same model from Bose and has threatened to take these away from me as she thinks they really sound that good. We were able to get a perfect fit as we have used this type of earbud for years and finding the prefect one of the very comfortable ear tip options was very easy for us both, actually on the first try. The controls are easy to get accustomed to. And taking a call while using these is a breeze with the noise cancellation adjusting to give the surrounding noises the cold shoulder while on your call. IPX4 rating guarantees resistance to dust and water splashes giving you a piece of mind that its OK to workout or do yardwork while wearing these. The 24 hour time is based on the charge in the case and the cases ability to recharge the earbuds a couple of times before it needs recharged. I get 6-8 hours of listening before they need to go back in the case to recharge. Charging can be done with the charging cable built into the case that folds up into the case bottom or simply placing the case with the earbuds in it on a wireless charging pad. Download the app to get full functionality and pleasure from these earbuds. Yes these are on the pricy side but if you have the bucks to spare I highly recommend checking them out for yourself because after all for you the only opinion that really matters is your own.

I've spent the past 3 days listening to these - why ? - because I don't want to stop! Seriously - the best sounding earbuds I've found in this price range. Completely blocks off any outside noise and just lets me enjoy the music! Not sure how they would hold up against sweat, but I can say that I spent 3 hours in scorching Florida heat while fishing and listening to my tunes and then another hour in the same heat mowing the front and back lawn - no problems with sweat. The highs are crisp, the bass is thumping - FANTASTIC sound! I did have to experiment with the different ear pieces to make sure I had the best fit, but it was well worth the time as the ones that come factory installed were too small. Oh - an added plus - they went with USB C for charging, something not enough manufacturers are doing - great choice!

I was looking forward to trying out these wireless earbuds and was impressed with how comfortably they rest in my ear and how clear I sounded with the noise cancellation. Hardware - The ear buds and the container are lightweight and feels like quality material. The charge lasts for days with the ear buds not connected to the charge station however the charge station itself seems to discharge quickly when using to charge the ear buds. Unsure if that's due the battery used in the station itself but its really not an issue since earbuds last very long on a single charge. The charging station charges very quickly so that is another plus. Software - The software provides some adjustability on sound settings and provides charge levels of earbuds and station. It is simplistic and not really needed to use the earbuds. I am concerned however at not being able to modify the privacy settings because it wants to use Geolocation which not sure why it needs that data. Calls - Amazing on calls, crystal clear and the noise cancellation works perfectly. I was able to handle full conversations with the windows down in my car or with the AC at full blast. I am really impressed at how well it handles calls. Music- The sounds are extremely clear and has a high range. Unfortunately the low range/bass is not that great but for ear buds especially when it comes to calls its crystal clear. Music is a joy to play on this because able to clearly hear the voice and mid - high range sounds. Don't expect lofi or deep bass music to sound good on here though Range/Distance - The range of these are very impressive, I was able to walk to another area of the room / house and still had great connection. Overall I really loved these and recommend this product for anyone looking for good earbuds.

I've been in the market for a set of earbuds for a while that I just want to love. Ever since my last set of earbuds went through the washing machine and they were destroyed (note: dont forget you have them in your pocket when you do your laundry) I have tried a number of different sets. This is definitely on the more expensive end of the spectrum that I've tried. So lets get into it. To start, the packaging definitely has a premium look and feel, the box is double-walled, has a nice finish and fits well together. There's no excessive security features to the box or strange gyrations you have to go through to get to the product once you've removed the cellophane which is appreciated. Box slides open in a smooth motion and the documentation, then earbuds are presented to you somewhat like a gift. The one downside to the packaging is that the ear gels are in a non-reusable oblong cardboard case to the side with a stuck on cover. Once you've removed that cover it no longer stays closed and there's no additional place to store the ear gels. So you'd better hope you don't lose them and that you are sure on your size, otherwise they will just rattle around inside the empty box or a drawer once you've found your fit. The set does ship with a USB-A to USB-C cable which is a pleasant addition as so many things are forgoing the addition of any sort of charging accessories these days. I also appreciate that the case IS USB-C since for some reason even in the premium brands, you still find micro-USB these days which should just not be a thing anymore. Now to usage. Pairing is simple, slide the case open, hold down the button on the front of the case and let your device discover them. Quick note on charging. While it does come with the aformentioned USB-C cable, the case is actually Qi charging capable which I discovered quite by accident as neither the documentation nor the box even mention wireless charging. I suppose this capability goes hand-in-hand with them being 'true wireless' but I've had enough headsets that are 'true wireless' that do not have Qi charging capability, so again, it was a pleasant thing to discover. In terms of charging and battery life, it is quite pleasant to see the battery indicator for the case itself in the app, I've never had a headset that shows that. I also very much like the slide lid for the box as opposed to a flip lid like most other headsets I've used. In the past if I drop the case of one of my headsets with a flip lid, inevitably it will come open and my earbuds will scatter across the floor. This lid definitely seems more secure, though I haven't dropped it yet. Fit is a little bit of an issue with these. Once I paired them to my phone I received a phone call immediately and was chatting. I noticed when I put them in my ear that there was no great 'hook' to go behind the cartilage in my ear to help keep it in as so many other headsets have, relying almost primarily on the friction supplied by the ear gel, so partway through my conversation, the headset fell out. I've tried the other included ear gels, but the mediums that come pre-installed are closest to a perfect fit for me. The Larges are much too large and the smalls are too loose. I found by rotating the headset in my ear I can 'sort of' achieve that 'hook' behind the ear cartilage that I was looking for, but it's less than idea, and someone with smaller ears than myself I think would have even more difficulty. Even the images of wearing this headset does not show the orientation that provides the best security in my ear for these. So this really is a disappointment. Sound quality leaves a little bit to be desired. I compared these directly to two other sets of 'true wireless' earbuds that I own, and while the initial experience is quite good, when comparing directly to other headsets that have a more mid-range price, I was left wanting a little bit more from these. It's not to say they are bad, but the treble is a little overpowering, which can be adjusted to an extent from within the app, but even fully adjusted, they could not realize the level of bass that some of my other headsets were capable of. On the App... I'm one that kind of hates that basically every single piece of consumer equipment these days requires an app for it to be useful, and this is yet another. The app touts customization of commands for the touch controls on the side, however the extent of that customization is whether or not you want push to talk or next/previous for tracks... Why this needs to be a customized option is strange to me as the headset should know when it's being used for calls as opposed to music and adjust accordingly. I previously mentioned the equalizer and it is found here, as I've experienced with other brands of headsets. It works, it helps, but it's not wonderful. You can also manage the noise canceling here. As for the noise canceling, it is really quite good, and I think could be better if the fit issues were addressed. There are many options for the noise canceling from none at all to varying levels of cancelation and also hear-through type features. They all work well. Overall, I think this is a good headset, but for the price really could be better. The fit and even the minor audio quality issues prevents it from really standing out above the rest, especially at this price point.

I'm a big true wireless earbuds user and I've owned my share of trash buds. Obviously I was excited to get these, especially after witnessing their amazing, albeit expensive bluetooth speaker. However these are still cheaper than other brands and blow many out of the water with ease. They're deceptively small, with a pleasantly long type-C charging cable. The charging case could be smaller. Touting 24hr(using the wirelessly changeable case charge with a, get this, replaceable battery in the charging case.) WHAT??? That's pretty awesome. I'm not worried about 6 extra gummies, since I, obviously have the universal ear lobe. They fit great right out of the box. The sound quality is delicious. Noise cancelation is good enough for most users(true noise cancelation can only truly come from over the ear headphones, in my opinion. You obviously get voice assistance ability and they're,[run in light rain proof] I have to say these are well worth the $300 asking price. And highly recommend them to any and everyone. My new favorite earbuds. If these ever go on sale, I'm buying two more pair. What? I might gift one.

Great true wireless earbuds. I've tested many different true wireless headphones; Airpods, Sennheiser Momentum 2, Beats, B&O, etc., and these have one of the best sound quality when it comes to in-ears. The bass in these is amazing and having it's own app is great, it has an EQ built in. The case has wireless charging and has a slide to open, which is really nice. The case isn't too big either. These earbuds have a touchpad to control them which works out really well. They also pause music when you take an earbud out to hear somebody/something. They have noise cancelling and pass through, in case you are outside and want to hear your surroundings. Honestly, if you've been looking for a high quality in-ear true wireless, you have to give these a try!

In ear speakers with the ability to cancel noise and wind, make holding a conversation very enjoyable. On the other end of the call, my voice is said to be crisp and clear as if I were right in he room. Music sounds terrific. The app available compliments the earbuds. Other details worth mentioning is the charging case which is used to store and charge the ear phones. The new C style plug quickly recharges the cases internal battery. The case can also be charged with a wireless charging station. A medium cup comes installed on the earphones. Other sizes are included for a perfect fit.

When I first set up the Devialet Gemini I was expecting some small issues with the app because of other reviews I've read not only on Best Buy, Amazon as well as YouTube. I was right, the Gemini do not connect seamlessly. I had to reset the earbuds, they still take a moment. My phone is the Galaxy S21 Ultra and this is the first time I've had trouble connecting earbuds... The sound and ANC is great even the transparent mode is good.. but another one of my gripes is you have to turn on location for the Gemini to connect to the app, it seems like such an unnecessary step. Anyway volume is great, the clarity is very good the Gemini are an excellent choice for sound. Listening to one of my favorite earbud testing songs Simon and Garfunkels The Boxer did not disappoint . Call quality is good, basic, nothing to rave about. For the price there needs a better app experience. I'm aware they canceled the first lauch due to issues with the app and relaunched after fixing major issues but there are updates that need to be made before they are a 5 star earbud.

    These trade convenience for quality

TL;DR: Think of these as a trade-off between functionality/ease of use and sound quality. The Good: The lows are about as good as it gets when it comes to an in-ear headphone, they don't really thump you like some over-ear headphones (such as my Sennheisers) do but they are very crisp. The mids are really the standout feature in my opinion, they are very well balanced. The build quality seems nice, and they are quite comfortable in the ears. The noise cancelling works well, wouldn't say it is Bose level good but it does what I'd need out of active noise cancelling. It appears that the battery in the case (they call it the Chamber) is replaceable which is nice assuming they will sell you replacements. It has wireless charging (haven't tried that yet though). The Bad: Highs (especially from hi-hats and synth highs) are pretty harsh, almost a piercing sensation. If you want enough volume to feel the lows, you have to turn it up so high that the highs become really harsh (using a flat EQ). The case is about 50% larger than an AirPods case, making it print in your pocket a good bit more. It does not connect seamlessly to your phone, and it wont display battery status on your phone like AirPods do. The earbuds themselves are fairly large, which is an expected trade-off in order to have nice lows, but my wife made fun of me when she saw me put them in for the first time (and my wife thinks that her AirPods that look like a toothbrush head look just fine). The Ugly: Coming from an Apple H1 chip user...the ease of use is abysmal. The app is awful (but looks nice), it wont update the software, gives constant errors for connection, etc. It displays multiple devices on my Bluetooth, ranging from "Headset" ,"Gemini", "Gemini L", "Gemini R". I literally cannot update the earbuds, I constantly get an error (errors 512) no matter what I do. So if the update out there is supposed to improve anything in this review I found "bad" I wouldn't know because it is actually impossible at this point for me to update them. The left earbud has cut out 3 times so far in the middle of a song. Conclusion: I don't know if I will keep them, for the price they are the sound is good but I will be honest the "spatial audio" feature on AirPods Pro in addition to the H1 chip functionality (auto-pairing, battery status, reliable pairing, phone call integrations) make the AirPods a device I would see myself using more on the day-to-day than the Geminis. AirPods are far more convenient to use. Something about just taking them (AirPods) out of the small form factor case and having them always work reliably is the main driver behind actually wanting to use them despite the sound of AirPods not being as good as these. Hopefully with updates (whenever it is possible to actually perform them) these will reach a level that compare to the AirPod functionality, but without the H1 chip it may be a little far fetched.

Manufacturer note: for reviews prior to April 2021, please note that a complete software update has been installed on products shipped from May 2021. You will get the same uniquely rich sound and noise cancellation customers love, but also enjoy simplified one-device pairing, clearer voice calls and video conferencing, as well as a host of battery management improvements. All of the above enhancements are available as a software update for customers who purchased their Gemini before May, 2021. devialet

These wireless earphones have provided me with superior sound since starting to use them. The noise canceling feature is very noticeable too which has really helped me while working from home and more commonly using headphones. Other wireless ear buds that i have used have made it quite tedious to determine when the battery is about to die, but with the companion app, these type of questions never go un answered. The app is very easy to use and is a must if you are wanting to maximize the value of these headphones. Secondly, the sound is amazing too, it provides deep earthly base and crisp pitch perfect treble. The only thing that these headphones did not do well for me was the fit, they are extremely "side-heavy" and the silicone ear wraps do not fit my ears very well regardless of which size I tried. I must caveat that some wireless ear buds have had this problem with me, but these were very apparently side heavy and easily fell out. All in all, these are great sounding headphones and being paired with an amazing companion app. Although the fit was not the best for me, I have no doubt that for others these would be a home run in the fit department.

Getting setup with the app is a little funky but nothing crazy. Quality of these headphones are amazing! Great low end for a such a lightweight pair of earbuds, aesthetic is very premium, noise cancelling is impressive, and EQ in the app is great. Won’t be as seamless as AirPods but I got these for quality and these don’t disappoint. Great upgrade from my master and dynamics!

Today I am reviewing the Devialet Gemini TX101 earbuds. In my testing, I used them with various music genres using Apple Music as the source on my Samsung A21. First Impression: My initial impression of these earbuds is that they are well made and well packaged. The earbuds are comfortable and are firmly held in place. They come with 4 sets of varying sizes to support mode ear shapes and sizes. The charging case is solid, well made, but a bit too large to be carried in a pocket for some people. Personally, I like the size and weight because if it were small and lightweight, I would surely lose it. The case uses a USB type C cable for charging and has a color LED across the front to show battery charge level. Fit: The earbuds come with 4 different sized earpieces, one already on the earbud. I stuck with the one installed and the fit seemed good. But as I moved my head, the earbuds fell out. So I changed to the large size and the fit was much better. Quality: The earbuds are very well made. The charging case has a lid that slides open and closed. Most of the ones I have reviewed have lids that open on a hinge like a jewelry box. I prefer the slide-out function because I feel like it is less likely to wear out or be broken off. Only time will tell. The earbuds sit firmly in place and are held in place with a magnet. The magnetic force is adequate to hold it in place without being too strong, making it difficult to get them in and out. The Gemini’s are easy to get out, but don’t fall out. Initial pairing: Up to this point I was very impressed, but this is where the experience took a turn south. The pairing process took over an hour to complete. When I do a review, I don’t assume anything. What I do is follow the directions. That is because someone who is not tech savvy is most likely to follow the quick start guides or user manual and doing so here might make this a miserable experience. At this point I haven’t powered anything up. I opened the quick start guide and followed the directions. I could never get the white flashing light. I got a green light that kept turning off. I tried it many ways and never got to the point of seeing a white flashing light. So, I opened everything up and found the earbuds have a small sticker covering the charging posts to protect during shipping. This is not uncommon, but in every other review I have done the instructions have mentioned them and said to remove them. After removing them, I was still unable to get the white flashing light. What I found was another sticker under the sliding lid of the case. The sticker removing tab had folded over, so I didn’t see the sticker. Removing that sticker allowed me to get to the point of getting the flashing white light. I started the pairing process, and after the left earbud paired, the right earbud battery died, stopping the process. The left earbud was charged but the right was dead. I charged the earbuds and tried to pair again, but the process had been corrupted and kept faling. So, I had to go through the reset procedures to bring the ear buds to factory default and was finally able to get them paired to my phone. The first step was to update the firmware. The update was 2 versions behind. Using the app, the update process was quick and simple. Following the update, the process required resetting the earbuds back to factory default settings. So, I reset them again, and ran into the fourth problem; the update changed the pairing process, and the instructions didn’t warn of this. The first process had you pair only the left earbud, and the right would pair by default. However, both left and right earbud were displayed as available devices. After the update, there is no longer a left, but I had 3 different options to choose from. I “forgot” all Devialet Bluetooth entries and started over. I selected the only Devialet option that looked correct, and the earbuds finally paired. This was an extremely frustrating process, one that could have been completely avoided with better documentation. They need to make the stickers known in the setup instructions in the user manual. And with such a different pairing process after the update, a single page insert would have made it known without having to change the documentation. For me it wasn’t the end all, but for someone who is not tech savvy, it could be a horrible process. For myself, I almost stopped the review and reached out to tech support. App: The app is a good app. It is clean and easy to navigate. It gives you control over all the features of the earbuds, including audio sound quality, equalization, and earbud commands. It also shows earbud and battery charger battery levels and firmware loaded. Sound quality: The EQ in the app has 7 presets, Custom, Flat, News/Podcast, Bass, Treble, Dynamic, and Low-Mid. For the sound quality review, I did my first tests with the eq set flat. I want to see how they sound throughout the different genres right out of the box. Then I tried the default presets, and finally tweaked a preset to see how good I could get it. I started with easy listening with Dire Straits “Love Over Gold”. I also listened to Simon and Garfunkel, Phillip Glass, Randy Newman, Jim Croce, Gary Wright, and others. Overall, the sound was amazing. The only thing was the highs were a bit harsh on some of the songs. Changing the EQ from flat to the “Low-Mid” preset corrected the highs and gave beautiful sound. Next, I listened to metal. I listened to Ted Nugent, Metallica, Aerosmith, The Vandals, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, Anthrax, and others like this. For this genre the music sounded good in the flat setting. Changing it to dynamic made it sound better, and the Low-Mid even better. But I changed the Low-Mid and added more low and mid with a slight increase in highs and it really sounded good and punchy. From here I moved to high-energy music. This is my workout playlist that I use to keep me going on the elliptical when I don’t want to. This is a variety of different music, all high energy with punch and with a quick beat. Some of the artists were George Clinton, The B-52’s, Beasty Boys, The Gap and, The Gorrilaz, The Offspring, Killer Mike and others. Using the flat eq, the music was tight and punchy, yet had no depth. This wasn’t surprising and expected. Changing the EQ to Dynamic actually removed more depth, which was surprising. The Low-Mid setting helped some, but not as much as I thought it would. Setting the EQ to the preset Bass setting had the most impact and sounded really good. The setting I found the best was the Bass preset with 8kHz high increased to match the 4kHz level. Atomic Dog was very funky, Rock Lobster was clear and punchy, and Pretty Fly for a White Guy was full with solid yet tight guitars. These earbuds did a really good job in this genre. To really hear the earbud’s ability to reproduce loud, tight, punchy, high-speed music, Party Till We Die by MAKJ & Timmy Trumpet puts the ear buds to the test, and they pass with flying colors. Finally I selected a variety of different music from my playlist. Some of it was a mix of folk, bluegrass, and maybe country. This music was American, Australian, New Zealand, and from other countries. I started with music from Tami Nelson, Mel Parsons, and Delaney Davidson. This music sounded pretty good with the default Flat setting. The dynamic setting actually hurt the sound and the Low-Mid was the best. I finished with review with a bizarre album called “Have Moicy” by Michael Hurley, Unholy Modal Rounders, & Jeffrey Fredrick. This album is classified as Alternative Folk, but I just consider it odd bluegrass with a splash of weird. I’m not knocking it; it has some of the best fiddle playing I have heard. I really love it; I’m just trying to figure out how to really classify it. Using the default flat setting didn’t do too bad with this album. On this entire album, I kept switching the EQ setting between Low-Mid and Bass and to me the default Bass setting sounded the best. I tried tweaking it and it made some better and others not, but the Bass setting sounded good throughout the entire album. Conclusion: I am really mixed in how I feel about the Devialet Gemini earbuds. The sound quality is outstanding, the hardware quality of the earbuds and charging case is solid, and the layout of the documentation is clear, easy to read, easy to follow, and actually the best documentation I have received with any earbuds. The packaging is also very solid with professional presentation. For me this is a 5 out of 5 if I have ever had one. But the setup process was the worst I have ever encountered. I am an IT system administrator and network engineer with a background in professional commercial and residential audio/video design and installation. I have a tremendous amount of experience in this field, and even so it seemed like every time I moved forward, I was met with another block. I believe all of this could easily be fixed with simple documentation fixes. Let the user know to remove all three battery stickers, and either give enough of a battery charge on both earbuds to complete the setup or tell the user to charge the earbuds before attempting setup. Unfortunately, I am knocking it down to a 4 out of 5 because of the horrible setup experience. That being said, I highly recommend these earphones for audiophile quality music reproduction. The sound quality is amazing.

I’ve owned and used a few other wireless earbuds from Samsung and Sony, some higher-end than others. I got an opportunity to test these Devialet - Gemini Noise Cancelling True Wireless Earbuds and they are a contender for the fullest sound reproduction. I prefer some good base with my music and these Geminis don’t disappoint in the low frequency department. The mid frequencies are pretty clear as well, offering good sounding vocals. The highs seem to be a bit exaggerated and overpowering at higher volumes, though you can pick a flatter EQ curve through the Devialet smart phone app. All of the above sound quality is obtainable best when Active Noise Cancelling is enabled and when you have the earbuds perfectly fitted inside your ears. Speaking of the fit, they included 4 different size silicone ear tips to accommodate most people. Unlike my Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, the Devialet Geminis rely very much on the ear tips to hold it in your ear, there is no “fin” or hook you can twist inside the cartilage part of your earlobe to further secure them in. So for me, these will be best used in the office or while relaxing on the couch, not when walking or working out or mowing the lawn. They are too precious to be dropped or lost while in motion, and they will fall out of most people’s ears because they are fairly large and heavier than other buds - all that patented ANC technology with multiple mics and that deep, loud bass needs a bigger enclosure. Other physical aspects that differentiate the Geminis from the competition are: * The charging case is also much larger than my Samsung or Sony buds but it nicely slides open instead of flipping a lid. * It also supports wireless charging and has a USB-C plug, thank you! With battery charging from the case will offer a total of 24-hours of playback since you can recharge the buds about 3 times on top of the 6-hours the buds themselves will last * There is also an LED charging indicator on the case that’s green when more than 50% charged, orange under 50% charge and red when really low charge. You must use the App for full sound and active noise cancelling customizations: * You can pick from 5 EQ presets or create your own custom EQ * You can toggle through 3 ANC modes - low, high and plane and 2 transparency modes to let ambient sound in when you’re trying to listen to a conversation, etc * There are a few patented technologies unique to Devialet that make them even more special, one that especially caught my attention is the “Ear Active Matching” that’s supposed to tune the sound based on the shape of your inner ear. All in all if you can afford these and are not planning to use them while working out or jogging, the Devialet Gemini Noise Cancelling True Wireless Earbuds offer superb sound and great active noise cancelling with the latest advancements in technology.

The Devialet Gemini wireless earbuds are some of the best sounding earbuds I’ve ever heard. They’re also equipped with the best noise canceling feature that I’ve ever used. Devialet is a small French based company that specializes in high end audio products for audiophiles. So, when I heard that the new Gemini wireless buds were releasing, I couldn’t wait to try them out. The charging case is unique, instead of flipping over like most cases, this one actually slides open exposing the left and right ear buds. The case can be charged by either a USB-C charger, or it can also be charged wirelessly. The box includes 4 different sizes of ear tips, as well as a USB-C cable. In order to get the most out of the earbuds, you will need to download their app. The app gives you the ability to turn on noise canceling, neutral or transparency modes. There is also an option to change the function of the button to either skip or voice assist. Lastly, there is an equalizer in the app, that gives you 4 different presets as well as a custom setting for your own sound preference. The biggest problem I have with the app is, every time I close the case lid, it disconnects the earbuds from the app. This can get very annoying especially if you want to switch from noise canceling to transparency. The sound of the ear buds is out of this world. They did an amazing job with these, the highs are bright and crisp, the lows are deep, and the bass is very clear and strong. You can immediately tell these buds are high quality sound. The noise cancelling function is among the best I’ve ever used (including over the ear headphones). There are 3 different levels of noise cancelling; low, high and plane. Plane being the highest and almost completely blocking out every sound no matter how loud. Both buds have a touch button that can be used to play/skip or for voice control. When you get the earbuds seated correctly, they are comfortable, and I didn’t notice them there half the time. I also tried using these on phone calls, in which they worked pretty well. I was able to hear the other person clearly and vice versa. Overall, I am absolutely in love with the sound quality of the Gemini wireless earbuds. They also have the best noise canceling function that I’ve used to date, and they fit really well. The downside to the buds is the app and how it loses connection every time the case closes. Not only that but having to go through the app to change from noise canceling to transparency is a pain, especially when you have to reconnect them. Hopefully that can be fixed with a software update though. Other than that, I think these are the some of the best earbuds on the market and I highly recommend them to anyone.
