DragonBall FighterZ is a fantastic addition to the already great lineup of fighting games this generation, if not the best. The high intensity action really gets the blood pumping in this 2D fighter. The lineup of characters is varied and every character feels like it plays uniquely, while still sharing some similarities with others. This allows newcomers to pick up on the combo system easily, but then tweak it to their liking given their favorite Z-Warrior. The network has some issues, but nothing that can't be solved with a little patience. The art style is beautiful, and a true rendition of what can be done when given the right source material. Overall, Dragonball FighterZ is one of the better 2D fighters out there, and it's great for Online competitive play, or just trash-talking your friends in your living room.

Phenomenal overall adaptation of the series. This is a fighting game that has tons of detail and dimension that fans of the series and newcomers alike can appreciate. Tons of the characters from the show with many customization options. Just get it, you won't be disappointed.

What this game delivers on is giving Dragon Ball fans a true competitive fighter, but it also comes with shortcomings. The implementation of the lobby system feels forced and unnecessary and just complicates matchmaking all together, despite the actual cool landmark designs. Especially given the servers are currently very unstable, and there's no no benefit of 'following' people in the hub, they should have left the hub aspect to Xenoverse, even with the game's focus on being casual friendly. The story-mode is not as bad as people say, but the RPG aspects feel like padding, definitely feel unnecessary, and have no depth. Unlike the later Budokai and Tenkaichi DB games, the RPG aspects also do not have an existence in the Arcade Mode, making Arcade Mode already absurdly harder than it needs too be. Story mode also has 3 different arcs, where the same story is being told in all 3 but from 3 completely different perspectives. The perspective aspect is what have some plot-events that play out in all 3 alter. This includes dialogue also when the same characters are seen interacting again from a different arc's perspective. It makes the story feel messy and disjointed at times. Initially, you wouldn't even be able to tell if all the arcs are actually canon or interconnected. Music is in-between good and average. Some tracks are good, but most are average. Stage design look good from a background perspective, but have no interesting dynamics actually going on in the background, making the actual stages bland and just a proxy to fight on. Online is completely underwhelming and essentially broken. Constant kicks out of the lobby and long match-making. Inability to play with friends (and randoms) consistently because of no invitation system, but more importantly, the compensation feature (Ring Matches) for no invitation mechanic doesn't do its job and allow consistent connectivity. This is why I said earlier that the lobby system made things complicated as this would have been easily avoided with a standard menus system. Moreover, ranked matches lack any real penalty system, so rage quits are not rare and people are able to abuse this to pad their ranks and record. Did I also mention that you don't get rewarded any points if they disconnect? Gameplay. This is the best area of the, but the actual fighting gameplay specifically, as not all parts of gameplay are great (like Arcade Mode). Competitively, there are weird aspects however, and they are discussed in the fighting game community. Two major issues being lack of push-block - when moves connect on blocking players, the characters do not move back and instead stay in place - and the dragon dash, which nullifies effect zoning entirely with non-beam projectiles. It also destroys the 'neutral' aspect of the the competitive gameplay. But overall, the fighting gameplay is pretty solid, and is what you'd buy the game for There is no 1v1 though, it's 3v3 all around (except story mode). So if you're looking for a competitive fighter, this is worth a buy, however, via a sale (online issues/lacking single-player content and balance). If you want a "Dragon Ball" game, you're better off with Xenoverse 2 - especially given its price cut.

I had no idea that this concept of a game would be made for DBZ/DBS. I used to play street fighter & capcom vs marvel all the time growing up and they were some of my favorite games to play. With all the character combinations and special attacks, the art style and graphics, they were a blast. And when Dragonball entered the ring with their own version of those fighting games, I was enticed and could not wait to get my hands on this game. I liked the other Dragonball games, but the 3D fighting style got to be boring to me, with all the flying around and whatnot, this was just the style of game that was needed for the Dragonball Fans.

The Best Fighting Game I've Ever Played

Dragon Ball FighterZ is a phenomenon. Since the game came out, I have thought of little else. I write about and play video games for a living and although I have other games to review, and other things to do, Dragon Ball FighterZ has basically taken over my life. With that out of the way, let me tell you WHY it's so good. Dragon Ball FighterZ takes a property I have loved since I was a kid and puts it in the hands of, in my opinion, the best fighting game developer around; Arc System Works. ArcSys, as they are sometimes called, made Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, Persona 4 Arena, and others. Each of their games feature a wide array of different characters, and ArcSys somehow finds a way to make each character feel unique, creating unusual attacks and fantastic combos that give each character a distinctive personality. Contrast this to other fighting games, such as Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat where many characters are so similar as to be almost interchangeable. Think Ryu and Ken, the ninjas in MK, and more. Dragon Ball FighterZ is a team-based game as well, so like Marvel VS Capcom, players will choose a team of three Dragon Ball characters to fight with. Each character has an assist move they can do to extend combos and add mixups, helping to add much-needed depth to the game. In spite of the game's deep systems, FighterZ succeeds largely because the game is so approachable. I have introduced a dozen people to the game, some of whom don't even play video games, and every single person loved it (some are even considering buying consoles to play it). The game includes autocombos for each of the face buttons that allow even button mashers to land flashy combos, and do well against other players. Pros needn't worry, however, because skill trumps luck in this game, and practice will see them victorious over their button-mashy opponents. Overall, Dragon Ball FighterZ is an incredible game, and the art style, and many hidden Easter eggs, can help recreate amazing moments from the show. You don't have to be a fan of Dragon Ball, Z, or Super to enjoy FighterZ, but for those that do, FighterZ provides the best Dragon Ball video game experience, and my favorite fighting game, of all time.

    Best overall DBZ fighter

I'm not a skilled fighting gamer like this particular title probably caters to, but I am a fan of the DBZ series. I originally got hooked on Budokai 3. I played that game for hours and to this day consider it to be one of my all time favorite games. However, after the days of a 2D DBZ fighter it was hard for me to pick up another title, I was impressed by Burstlimit when it first came out as well as Xenoverse 2 but grew tired of it eventually. FighterZ has brought me back to the series and have been loving it ever since. There have been some online issues, but as a casual gamer it doesn't bother me too much as the computers are sometimes hard enough. If you like DBZ and fighting games this is for you. The matches can get so intense so fast, it's crazy...but that's DBZ for you. I recommend to anyone who is a DBZ fan to give this a try.

DBFZ is a great fighting game entry for those looking for a solid fighter to compete in or for those more interested in playing casually. Beautiful graphics and solid mechanics make for a fun fighting game that is also friendly for newcomers. For those not as interested in honing their skills, the story mode offers fun banter between characters that span the DBZ universe. My only real gripe with the game is the online lobby is horrible and needs to be fixed.

Since the Game mentioned above was never released in the States, I will say that ARC systems shot at making a credible fighting game for Dragon Ball Z was phenomenal. Amazing controls, all the right characters, dual voice options, everything was done right. I don't know if the can make a better sequel but I'd be willing to give them a shot.

This game is visually stunning. The animation is perfect and makes it feel like you're playing an interactive episode of the show. The controls are easy enough for anyone to pickup and start playing immediately. The roster includes everyone's favorite characters. There are some fun cut scenes and dialogue that fans of the show will appreciate.

Awesome fighter. As long as you are into these type of games, this one is for you. If you are a fan of the series then that is a plus. Visually, this game is stunning. Controls, a little of learning curve but awesome once you've gotten the hang of it. Other than the DLC characters this game to me is a must buy.

immersive, high-action game lets you master more than one fighting style and features easy-to-learn play. Classic characters, including Goku, Majin Buu and Frieza, enhance the fun, and Dragon Ball FighterZ lets you experience exciting aerial combos each time you play.

I bought this game mostly for my boy, but I find myself enjoying it also. I love that we can pull off some moves easily and not try to remember how to do 20 different moves for each character. This way you can play more characters and have fun. I love how the game looks.

I've been trying to get into fighting games for a long as I can remember, but other than Super Smash Bros, nothing (barring maybe Soul Caliber) really scratched that itch... Until now. This game is almost laughably simple, in that there are no combos over 3 or 4 button's long-- you're mostly just using single button presses to make moves in succession, and hoping your attacks naturally turn into a combo, in a very super smash brothers type of way. The graphics are straight out of an anime and you honestly can't go wrong with the music. So much about this game to love. My only complaint so far is how difficult it is to set up an online match with friends, but I hear this is going to be fixed at some point with a patch

Though I am not familiar with anything else Dragon Ball Z related, I still find this game to be highly enjoyable. The art style makes it look so close to actual 2D anime, and the controls and combat systems are simplified enough for almost anyone to feel like an effective fighter. Tracking all of the different meters in the HUD is a little daunting at first, but after a few matches it starts to make more sense.
