I absolutely loved the original on PS1. When I heard they were remaking it on 3DS, I knew I had to have it. The original looked pretty terrible even by the standards of the time. This new version looks great. They've also streamlined the very long opening portion of the game. My only complaint would be that they've decided to add different regional dialects to the game. Every island's inhabitants have their own accent native to the island. This makes it pretty difficult to understand some of them. Honestly it got to the point where I wouldn't speak to any characters other than those required for progression. Totally killed immersion for me. Other than that, the game has a wonderful storyline and memorable leads. Definately recommend if you can get passed the hard to understand NPCs

This game is a tough one to review. If you're a fan of old-school JRPGs then this is an obvious recommendation despite its antiquated mechanics, since you will easily adjust to them.
If you are new to JRPGs then this will be a really tough game to get into. There are numerous refinements and improvements that the genre has seen which can make this blast from the past seem more like a relic.
Pros:
- excellent characters and focus on mini-stories
- wonderful character/enemy designs and animations
- get your money's worth with dozens of hours of gameplay
Cons:
- outdated gameplay mechanics will scare all but the most old-school JRPG fans away
- LOTS of backtracking
Bottom line - easy 5/5 for old-school diehards like me, likely to be a 3/5 for most other gamers.

Just an amazing JRPG. A few old-school elements, but that's kind of what you know you're getting into with a JRPG. The story is fantastic, gameplay is great, characters are interesting. Highly recommended.

I hadn't played the original Dragon Quest 7, but after playing DQ 8 and hearing this was coming for the 3DS, I had to give it a go. Great story and super fun game play to keep you playing.

To start, this game has a lot of history behind it belonging to the Dragon Quest franchise. This remake is done amazing well. To have the sprites rendered in full 3D characters is beautiful. The over map is big and looks great, travel through the game is done so long it flows very easily between each quest and what have you. I will say that some name changes from the original is a little annoying as they did not have to be changed. The games story is where it shines. From beginning to end it feels like arc of a show or different seasons, the story breathes well and flows so elegantly. Great game, great characters and great story telling.

Long Awaited and Much Improved remake of the classic PSX version, fits perfectly in the 3DS RPG library. Lucky they decided to finally show DQ some love again outside of Japan.

It's a slow burn at first, but once you get into it it's a nostalgic trip down memory lane with a colorful cast of characters, great music, and a solid story to keep you going. Might be a bit archaic for modern gamers, however.

I have yet to beat this game with my wife and I puting in over 40 hours each. this game is very long, and to me this is an excellent thing. It does have a slow start with almost an hour before you get to battle anything but after that there is no shortage of action. It also includes a lot of puzzles and times where the game doesn't give you a direct place to go so you have to figure it out. This is alot of what I miss about most new games, new games are too short and way to simple always with go directly here and do this then go directly here. This game has alot more freedom and some difficulty.

DQ7 is a pretty great game with interesting stories and the classic DQ gameplay. The job system is pretty cool and provided nice customization for the party members. It has some pacing issues, but overall a pretty good entry in the series.

Art style is great, and fun traditional RPG gameplay. Music is decent, and there are a few gameplay mechanics that haven't aged well/been updated. Plus, the overarching story takes a while to get going. Overall, a solid purchase

This is a great game for anyone that loves JRPGs, but it's definitely one of the slowest I've ever played. If that's not a big problem for you, then it's a solid game with good combat and an interesting story.

First, let me say that I have been playing Dragon Quest games since the beginning. My dad and I used to play these together and would see who could beat each new installment first. The original DQ 7 on the PS1 was long and laborious but it was unique. The revamped version is a good mix of old and new, and I actually like not having to have a million random battles. The one negative is that the camera angle is way too close and you miss out on a lot of the screen.

Physical games are superior to digital downloaded games.
