I just hooked up my new surround sound and the sub had a constant hum when I had the system muted and when I turned everything off. It kept my sub from going into standby mode which it normally does automatically. I swapped it with a more expensive gold plated cable I had laying around and voila! It was silent! The hum is gone and unfortunately for me, so is the packaging for this baby or I'd be taking it back to get my $18 back. :~/

This cable is way too thin and cheap. I hooked it up and got a bad hum. I thought i had a ground loop but it was just from the cheap cable. I replaced it with another better cable and the hum was gone.
