I've had this stick vac for quite some time now, a couple years. It has worked perfectly and the wife loves it. Worth the price.

You are going to pay a little more for Dyson, but it's well worth it. My last vacuum was a Dyson cordless, and I thought it was pricey, that was 12 years ago, and it's still running perfectly. Customer support is the best in the business. The Outsize is so much bigger, better, and quieter than the older models. The thing that made me actually pull the trigger, is the extra battery!

We saw that Dyson was coming out with a new cordless vacuum and had to give this new “Outsize” model a try and see how it compared to our old vacuums as one of them is pretty old “still working” but it’s about time to replace that one. Unboxing: The Outsize came very well packaged, completely broken down with lots of parts to put together. This isn’t difficult if you are familiar with Dyson products, everything is simple snap in place. In the box there’s the main unit/motor, The High Torque XL cleaner head, mini motorized tool, extension tube, crevice tool, combination tool, stubborn dirt brush, soft dusting brush, docking station, two batteries “one already installed”, two chargers and documentation. Everything is packed in separate little boxes and they all arrived in perfect condition. Setting up for first use: It was sort of fun unpacking all those little boxes and finding all the accessories, sort of like unwrapping a X-mas gift. There are two batteries and two chargers included which is a nice touch as you can always have both batteries charging at the same time if needed. The included instructions said to charge the batteries before first use and that’s exactly what we did. About 3 hours later they were ready to go “really didn’t keep track of time for that though”. Assembling is pretty much the same as any other Dyson we’ve owned and it’s a simple click lock system “no screws involved” Use: Now our biggest concern was how well this would clean compared to our old stick Shark vacuum as it was our favorite for cleaning the carpet but it couldn’t quite do as well as our full sized plug in upright. There’s a LCD screen on the back of the Outsize and as soon as you press the trigger switch “which only takes a very light touch to activate” it comes on showing which mode the unit is set on and how much time you have remaining. We mainly used the automatic “middle” setting and only used the power saving “low” or high mode just to see the difference. To prepare for the test I used our old Shark stick vac and went over the house very thoroughly. Usually when we vacuum with it we use one fully charged battery pack, but this time I used almost two to make sure everything had been gone over very well. Now on to the Outsize to see how that works and if it will pick up more. Operating the Outsize is exactly the same as the other Dyson stick vacs we have and have used, very simple, just depress the trigger and start cleaning. The trigger on this one though has a very light activation point and you really don’t need to squeeze it much at all to activate the vac. There’s also a silver button directly below the screen to set the power level. It’s a very simple solution compared to the Shark which had multiple buttons and an on/off switch that is easy to hit while trying to adjust settings, “my most hated thing with the Shark”. Now it’s time for the Outsize and see how it preforms. I mainly used the middle power setting which enables “Auto” when the power head is attached. I went over all the carpet and bare floors at the same speed I would normally use the Shark for. With the “Auto”, middle setting you can actually hear the motor speed go up/down when transitioning between surfaces and it does so very quickly. I didn’t spend a lot of time in any one spot and just went over as quickly as I normally would. To our surprise the Outsize actually picked up more dog hair and super fine dirt the Shark didn’t get and you can see in the pic attached it’s a good amount for a house that’s already been gone over very thoroughly with a good old vacuum. Next we tried out the attachments and were very interested in the small power head for cleaning off our sofa, love seat and chars. It worked perfectly and pulled out dog hair that was imbedded in the sofa with ease. The Outsize dustbin is a little large and sort of gets in the way when using that power head but you could hook it to the extension tube and uses it that way from a distance too. The stiff bristle brush works really well for brushing up the knap on our sofa and helped pull out imbedded dog hair. There’s even a little clear plastic piece included that snaps onto the extension tube so you can carry around your two most used tools keeping them handy. Cleaning: The dust bin is huge on the Outsize, it’s easily 3-4x the capacity of our old Shark. I only had to empty one time where I would have to empty the Sharks 3 or more times during a normal cleaning, and it was always getting clogged and hard to clean out. Emptying the dust bin on the Outsize is pretty much like the other Dysons, it’s a single lever on the back of the dust bin, just go over to your trash “after removing the extension tube or any attachment”, press down on the red release lever and the whole dust bin moves down while the door snaps open basically throwing out all the debris. Make sure you are over your trash can or whatever you are emptying this into as it tosses out the debris with some force. The filter simply “unscrews” from the back of the motor housing and it’s washable. The vacuum will also let you know when it’s time to clean the filter if you don’t keep up with it yourself. If you do a lot of vacuuming / cleaning like we do I’d suggest getting another filter from Dyson so you can let it dry out. We never noticed any long hair wrapped around the brush roller like we have on the Shark “although being easy to clean it’s still a pain to have to do it all the time”. Conclusion: This new Outsize model from Dyson is great, it’s cleaning head is full sized and has a nice wide cleaning path. It excelled at pulling more dirt out of the carpet than any of the other vacuums we’ve had before it. I did some noise level testing to see just how loud it is in comparison to our old Shark and a V7 we also have. The Outsize with the meter 16” away from the motor/main unit was registering right at +- 70db, the V7 was +- around 66db and the Shark showed +- around 72db. So noise wise it falls in between the three with it being a little quieter than the old Shark. My only complaints about this is I wish Dyson would add a headlight like our Shark has, it’s nice to be able to see when vacuuming in / around / under dimly lit areas. This is something I can live without as the amount of dirt it picked up after using our old faithful vac was pretty amazing and we were really surprised by that. Battery life has also been great; we normally used a full battery with the Shark and two if we really went around the house thoroughly. The Outsizes battery gave us two full “normal” cleanings and only used one full battery for a thorough cleaning, with it coming with two batteries we won’t have to be concerned about having enough power to get every nook and cranny cleaned. Our house is a little over 1600sqft with about 1/4th of that being tile, the rest being mid-level carpet. We also have one dog that sheds profusely and if this can pick up more than our old favorite then we are sold. So if you are looking for an excellent “and powerful” cordless vacuum that can clean as well as a corded upright this will be the one to get.

Vacuum cleaners have slowly been making the transition from uprights that you drag around the floor (common design for many decades) into hand-held models, both wired and battery powered wireless. There are many similarities between makes and models, but Dyson has decided to up the game with their new “Dyson Outsize” model. The Dyson Outsize is big… VERY big, for a hand-held. The dust and dirt collection bin is 150% larger (or more) than most other models on the market, and the roller/cleaner head is 25% larger as well. As a result, you can in theory, vacuum your whole house without having to stop in-between rooms to empty a small bin, as this one is large enough to handle most homes without stopping. The larger cleaner head also means fewer passes over a floor to cover the same ground compared to smaller units. Two batteries were included with my unit, so in theory you can also do that same house without having to recharge (well… maybe – more later). I wasn’t wanting for accessories. Mine came with the larger cleaner head, a small power head for cleaning furniture, three dust/brush ends that would be good for small furniture or cars, and a thin longer crevice tool, also good for cars or behind cushions, etc. The main extension wand, two batteries, two chargers, and a wall hanging unit completed a very full box. Note, there is NO floor stand included as with some other brands (boo) – just a bracket you can screw into your wall to hang the Dyson from when not in use. I didn’t need to really read the instructions for assembly – literally you just snap the extender into the main dust bin body, and snap whichever end tool you want to that, and once the batteries are charged and you attach one to the handle, you are ready to go. Pulling the trigger starts the unit and a small, round display screen facing you tells you which power level you’re using (auto mode, eco, or boost), as well as gives you a per-minute estimate on how long your battery will last before giving out. Dyson’s claim to fame on their models is that they will maintain full suction power until the battery dies, as opposed to weakening as the battery does, and I found this to be pretty much the case. Eco mode is for light cleaning (I found this best for harder non-carpeted floors) and gives you about 60 minutes of run time per full battery charge. Auto mode will vary the power depending on type of surface and need – more of a medium/normal clean, and gives you roughly 20-40 minutes of run time (I averaged around 30 minutes). Boost mode is a lot more powerful for deep cleaning, but, hold on… at best you’ll get 5-8 (or so) minutes from the battery using this mode. The batteries are pretty hefty in size and weight, and take about 3 ½ hours to charge (each). The Outsize is powerful. It did pull up dirt from my carpet that a lesser model missed, especially in boost mode. The auto mode did a little better than many others, and the eco mode again is just for light cleaning which I found to be best picking up crumbs from the kitchen wood floor (the cleaner head adjusts automatically for floor type). It was reasonably quiet, and the HEPA filter near the top of the bin filtered the air well, though it did create a “breeze” that knocked a few sheets of paper off of nearly tables as I passed. In terms of cleaning power and battery life so long as I kept it on auto or eco, I consider this to be a very good machine. Now… one thing: SIZE. As said earlier, this is a very large hand-held vacuum. By the time I got near the end of my house, my arm could definitely feel that I had been carrying a larger machine around. Not really a huge issue for me, but if you are buying this for someone else such as an older relative, a smaller person, or someone who’s not the strongest person around, they may have issues with the size and/or weight. I have few other complaints about the Dyson Outsize, but one is as mentioned earlier, the lack of an included floor stand, which some other brand models have. Not everyone is able to hang this from their wall (or if in a rental/apartment, you may not wish to screw a wall mount into the wall). A floor stand is, in my opinion, more convenient, so it would have been nice to see one included. Last, the price. Dyson is a premium vacuum brand, and you do pay for that. It does come with a full two year warranty (personally I wish it were more like 5 years at this price point). Only you can decide if it fits into your budget or not, but again, it is a very good machine. So, with the considerations you’ll need to take with size/weight/budget, I do recommend the Dyson Outsize.

    Blew My Expectations Away

I'll be honest, I was skeptical about a 'full size' cordless vacuum and it's abilities. Range anxiety. Effective cleaning. Weight. Rest assured, this Dyson Outsize will absolutely change your opinion on all of those factors and more, about what is possible with a full size cordless vacuum. First off, CHARGE THE BATTERIES! Don't be tempted to play around with the machine, charge them first for 4.5 hours for optimal battery life. You couldn't ask for a better array of accessories and power than with this vacuum. It comes with 2 battery packs for a run time of 120 mins, that can be charged on or off of the machine. Two charging power cords are included as well, so you can charge both batteries at the same time. Now that makes sense, right?! And it also comes with a wall mounted dock, so you can charge the vacuum battery while it's in the vacuum, hung on the wall, and charge the other battery separately, ready for a quick change to prolong you vacuuming time. The tools it comes with include the main high torque XL head cleaner, a hair screw tool, mini soft dusting brush, dirt brush, a combination tool and a crevice tool. In my experience with the vacuum, when I initially charged the battery and set about vacuuming my wood floors, in ECO mode, showed 78 mins of runtime. Across 2 batteries, that would equate to 156 mins! However, this does change, dependent on MODE, and FLOOR TYPE. If you set to AUTO mode (recommended), the suction increases, and the sensor in the head monitors the surface type, looking for carpet, wood floor, tile etc and adjusts the suction automatically. Obviously, with more suction, comes less run time, and with carpet, even more suction and less run time. On a full charge, my vacuum showed 34 mins run time on AUTO when on carpet. If you switch to BOOST mode, you get the maximum suction available from the vacuum, and I swear this machine almost sucked the carpet off the floor in that mode. I tested it pretty intensely in this mode, cleaning all the carpet downstairs in this mode, and it showed 17 mins run time in BOOST mode. And it lasted all of that time. I ran it till it powered out, it gives you a 2 minute warning before losing complete power, I switched back to AUTO mode and got another 2 mins of run time. Very impressed with how it adapts, but I can't stress how good the suction is on this machine. The high suction is due to the new Hyperdymium motor, coupled with heavy duty long life batteries. And it works. I never thought I would be so excited to vacuum the floors. Not only does it have the best suction of any vacuum cleaner I've owned (and I own two other Dyson products), coupled with it's full size bin means you really can clean the whole house with both batteries. I live in a 4000sqft house, with about 2500 sqft of carpet. I was able to deep clean my carpets, and cover the wood floors and tile all within the battery charge. I vacuum regularly, I am somewhat OCD, however, on BOOST mode, I was amazed (and also disgusted) with what this Dyson was able to pull out of my carpet - especially as I had vacuumed the day before with our Dyson DC50. This Dyson Outsize just blew me away. I am incredibly impressed with its cleaning ability, its robustness, is ease of maneuverability, its durability and its battery life. And being cordless is so freeing. You don't have to keep check of the power cord, and in my case, moving the plug from outlet to outlet, limited by a 30ft cord. It really is such a great feeling to not be tethered. Makes it all feel like less of a chore. I've included pictures of everything that comes with the vacuum, the LCD display during vacuuming, an image of the dirt it was able to pull from the carpet on BOOST mode, what the carpet looked like after, and it's adaptability to be used on stairs as well. It is a very versatile machine. It is not the lightest stick vacuum out there, but that is because it's designed for long lasting battery life, and extensive cleaning, so the bigger dust bin, the battery capacity etc adds to the weight. It's not uncomfortable to use at all, but be mindful it is heavier than say a Dyson V7 Fluffy which is our other Dyson cordless vacuum. However, the Dyson Outsize will replace both of them because is it really is THAT GOOD. I wholeheartedly recommend this Dyson Outsize vacuum cleaner. The combination of cutting edge technology, battery life and cleaning ability as the title says, BLEW ME AWAY! Nice one Dyson!

Full size vacuum for a full size home

****SUMMARY**** Dyson Outsize is a pricy high quality complete vacuuming solution for a large house and it replaces the need for the large heavy corded vacuum cleaners without sacrificing powerful suction, bin capacity, or versatility, and can be quickly switched to a hand held for smaller spaces, cars, and hard to reach areas. You will have no anxiety over battery run time with the 2 interchangeable batteries and the 2 chargers provided (one to be docked on the docking station and one that can be used to charge the spare battery. The Dyson outsize is made in Malaysia. ****Environment where the Dyson Outsize is being used**** 4 floors house of 2200+ square feet, with 48 indoor stair steps, hardwood, carpeting, kids, and 2 indoor pets. The Dyspon outsize was competing with a full size corded vacuum cleaner from a big brand, another cordless stick vacuum cleaner from a big brand, and a smaller robot vacuum cleaner from a leading brand as well. A full house vacuuming with the above mentioned non dyson cleaners used to take about 2 hours for a deep clean (about once a week) using all three of them on different floors with different settings for hardwood and carpet. We used to have to empty the stick vacuum bin at least twice, the robot vacuum cleaner twice, and the corded full sized vacuum cleaner once. I didn’t know what to expect when we got the Dyson outsize because I always dreaded the task of vacuuming, and my wife and I would have bets and the loser would have to vacuum the house ( and I lost a lot!). To save everyone the suspense, the Dyspon outsize did a full deep clean for the whole house and all the floors in 1.5 hours and the bin was emptied twice. This is a win in my book! ****Unboxing and getting ready for first use**** The Dyson outsize is packaged sensibly with no plastic bag waste whatsoever, everything was packaged neatly in recycled cardboard compartments and taking it out of the box was easy and pleasing. What's in the box: Dyson outsize wand 2 battery packs 2 chargers Wall mounted docking station High torque XL cleaner head Hair screw tool Mini soft dusting brush Stubborn dirt brush Combination tool Crevice tool Wand storage clip Battery charging guides, docking station installation manual, regulatory and safety information, and warranty activation guide. Instructions said that I had to charge both batteries until full (about 4.5 hours) before using it for the first time. So while the batteries were charging I mounted the docking station on the wall using the supplied hanging screws (I used my own stud finder and drill to hang the dock safely and firmly in place in one of the storage cabinets we have). One of the 2 supplied chargers is to be used on the wall docking station so the vacuum is charging while sitting on the dock. The other one can be used with the extra battery using any electric outlet. The 2 chargers and the 2 batteries are identical and can be used interchangeably. After the batteries were charged the Dyson outsize is now ready to be used. ****FEATURES AND PERFORMANCE**** Most notable features include: A full size bin equal to full sized corded vacuums to reduce trips to empty the bin 2 swappable batteries for a peace of mind and enough run time to clean a larger house without running out of juice. A very powerful Hyperdymium motor that delivers suction on par with my big corded vacuum cleaner A full size cleaner head that covered more floor and cut the cleaning time by at least 25% without the need to use a corded vacuum cleaner and the need to switch between power outlets along the vacuuming process. A dynamic load sensor which is very quick to change suction power and speed based on the floor you are vacuuming without the need to click, switch any buttons to make the vacuum conform to terrain change (between hardwood, carpet). This is very impressive and indeed time saving as you don't even need to change cleaner heads or floor mode. It works by increasing the suction power on carpet which makes the bristles dig deeper into the carpet to extract pet hair, and dirt while the soft carbon fiber filaments capture finer dust from hard floors and crevices. All of that extends the running time of the vacuum because it is always adjusting the suction power and speed depending on the flooring type its being used on without any lag. There is an LCD screen on the dyson outsize that shows you remaining runtime, performance, and gives you the option to switch between modes (economy, automatic, and boost). Battery life will vary depending on the mode you are using. The eco mode can let each battery run to about 60 minutes of uninterrupted cleaning, while auto mode can deliver up to 40 minutes of runtime per battery, and finally the boost mode which you would rarely need to use can drain the battery in 5 minutes (this mode is used for intensive cleaning for ground in dirt) The LCD screen also shows you when and how to clean and wash the filter and how to clear a blockage. The Dyson outsize power doesn’t fade or gets less powerful when the battery is about to run out. It keeps working with the same power and suction until the battery is completely drained which allows for consistent cleaning everywhere the Dyson outsize is used. The Dyson outsize can be easily transformed to a handheld to clean furniture, cars, smaller spaces. You will appreciate how thought out this product and extensions provided because it is so versatile. I was able to easily clean SC vents, ceiling fans, floor vents, car vents and seats, furniture and upholstery, horizontal blinds and windows rails with so much ease. I have never ever done that in so little time and this much effectiveness. One of the most impressive features is the mechanism of emptying the bin. It's very simple as you only need to lift the red toggle on the bin and it will release the dirt and empty the bin completely and comfortably. It's just a point and shoot function. One of my favorite things about the Dyson outsize is the hair tool which is conically shaped to avoid tangling. It does suck out pet and human hair completely from upholstery, steps, and tight places. The dyson outsize claims that it expels cleaner air that what it sucks in due to the machine filtration technology that traps 99.99% of particles, dust and allergens as small as 0.3 microns. So this is an added feature for me as it actually also cleans the air while running and captures the dust and particles that fly in the space where you are vacuuming. With all the above mentioned features, using the Dyson outsize made vacuuming easier and less time consuming. The weight is balanced and it doesn’t make you tired while cleaning, doesn’t strain the arms, and it is a fairly lightweight weight at less than 8 pounds total. This is heavier than your usual stick cordless vacuum but what you sacrifice in more weight you get with exceptional battery life, bigger bin and oversized cleaning head. The BOOST mode is great for carpets in high traffic areas. Yes it drains the battery faster but it absolutely sucks out all dirt and hair out of the carpet. ****FINAL THOUGHTS**** I really didn’t know what to expect before receiving and using the Dyson outsize, I didn’t dream that it could replace my fancy corded full sized vacuum cleaner, or that it will make the vacuuming process faster. It has exceeded all my expectations and it really became my go to for a full house vacuuming for all floors and stairs. It is comfortable to use, very well built and its intelligent as it does things like adjusting to the floor without any instructions from me and there is no need to replace the cleaner head to clean different types of floors. The XL cleaning head has a red switch to set the cleaning mode you want and I found that the middle setting is suitable for all floor types and I don't have to think about changing the order of cleaning anymore. Emptying the bin is easy and less frequent than any other cordless stick vacuum I know. Suction is powerful and amazing. Even the motor sound and loudness is very much less than my other corded and cordless vacuum cleaners. Yes, the price is high. But if you can afford it, you will find no better, more comfortable, and versatile vacuum cleaner option that will do it all and last a long time. This will replace any corded vacuum cleaner for indoor use no matter how good and powerful the vacuum is. I am extremely satisfied with the Dyson outsize.

    Cut the cord already!

This Dyson replaces my 3 year old Dyson that has seen daily duty for most of its life. I live in a large home with 2 other adults and 7 strictly indoor cats, so any other brand that I have tried in the past struggles just to pick up surface hair and dirt. All of my past vacuums have been corded so this was an entirely different experience for me. If you've ever gotten the cord repeatedly stuck on any corner, chair or other object, you already know the "whip" maneuver to try to free the cord. This sometimes doesn't end well, trust me. In the past, reports of short battery life or lack of power have prevented me from buying a cordless vacuum. Not anymore! The Dyson Outsize came cradled in entirely recyclable packaging. Kudos to Dyson for not using Styrofoam or other material that requires specialized recycling. I charged both batteries (each came with its own charging cord) until they were at 100%, then I assembled the vacuum in a few minutes. Once both batteries were charged I took the Dyson for a test drive. OMG! This thing can pick up hair, dirt, whatever from carpets, rugs, hardwood flooring, linoleum, you name it! You can get dirt/hair even from what you would normally call "clean". Simply amazing. The included attachments make the vacuum even more versatile to clean furniture, spiderweb from corners, under the fridge, ETC. It also came with a handy wall mount that doubles as a charging port. Emptying the tank is a breeze and it directs the contents straight into the garbage can so that the contents stay within the garbage can's confines. The vacuum is filtered so that the air that comes out even when full is much cleaner than the air you breathe. Great for people who suffer from allergies. The screen displays the mode as well as remaining battery life, so it takes the guesswork out of the equation. I think the auto mode is the more versatile as it is a compromise between suction and battery life. Eco works well for hardwood floors and linoleum and the battery life is doubled from the auto mode. If you need serious suction, switch it to Boost. But expect a workout because the suction is turned to the MAX and the battery life is much diminished in this mode. Overall, I am very pleased with this vacuum cleaner but I do have a couple of things to comment further on... I am 6' 2" of somewhat proportionate dimensions. So having to install the wallmount at 47.25" (120cm), it was not outside the norm for me. My wife is a foot shorter. She was surprised but not offended. The battery lasts for a long time because they are high capacity. This means extra weight. For a shorter person getting this out of its wallmount might be a challenge, so maybe the next generation will have lighter batteries... Nothing I said above denies the fact that this is an incredible machine that exceeds expectations.

This may be a bit long, so I’ll start with my conclusions while encouraging you to read the details and explanations that follow. This Outsize Cordless Vac is a terrific piece of engineering and manufacturing. It’s powerful, intelligent, and does what it promises and then some. It comes with a full array of useful tool and 2 long-lasting batteries. With a battery swap, Dyson claims 1 hour of vacuuming time, but I found that with a mixture of carpeted and solid surface floors the vac easily exceeds this. Cleaning is excellent and emptying the collection bin is a snap. The vivid LCD screen on the rear of the grip keeps the user well informed about power and battery life. Clearly, well thought through and manufactured to high standards. However, there is one significant issue that should be considered by a potential buyer: It is fatiguing to use this vac. In normal floor-cleaning configuration (power head, tube, handle and battery) it weighs about 9 pounds. Because it has no toggle-type on/off switch, activation requires holding the trigger. I found that wrapping a hand around the substantial grip and continuously holding the trigger was uncomfortable and tiring. For those with large, strong hands this might not be an issue, but I would urge buyers to try the grip and trigger as soon as they get home with the vac, and think about how it might feel 30 minutes later. More Details: Dyson uses only totally recyclable cardboard for packaging; there’s not a bit of Styrofoam to be found. This means there is little environmental impact. Bravo, Dyson. If you are familiar with Dyson’s V11 or just about any recent Dyson cordless vac, the Outsize will seem familiar. Think of it as a V11 on steroids. See photos of larger Outside next to the V11. Dyson claims the Oversize Cordless is “full size,” implying it could replace a corded vac. I agree. As with the earlier V11, the larger motorized head is really “smart” for all types of floors as it senses resistance (such as on thicker carpet) and adjusts the power accordingly. Once back on a solid flooring, power is reduced to save battery life while still cleaning brilliantly. The response to changing surfaces is almost immediate. I found it cleaned very well on all surfaces. Having 2 batteries, each with its own charger (but not a 2nd charger stand), relieves the user of worrying about the power supply, and the crisp, colorful LCD panel on rear of the powerhead is always visible and, as noted, keeps the user informed of status. As with earlier models, the Oversize Cordless has settings for Eco (max battery time), Normal (auto-adjusting as described), and Boost which vastly increases suction but depletes the batteries much faster. Due to the machine’s inherent efficiencies in Normal setting, I found little use for Boost. Each of the many provided tools works well, and I was especially pleased by the new Pet Hair tool for upholstery. I only wish it were available in a larger size, as the large cleaning head does tend to hold and wrap dog hair. (However, the rotating brush removes easily for cleaning.) Is it the perfect home-cleaning tool? Well, having the extra battery and charger is great, but there is no holder for it. Obviously, when the vac is in use, the secondary battery can sit in the wall-mounted holder. My early version lacked comprehensive written information, and that which is provided was scattered among various documents. None of these minor issues would keep me from buying and recommending this excellent product, provided the user has sufficient hand strength.

The performance I expect from a corded machine, has gone high tech. With its two (2) high capacity batteries, my new Dyson Outsize allowed me to vacuum the first floor with power to spare. The low profile beater bar head cleans a wide swatch of carpet or bare floor, yet being amazingly thin, fit under my couches. The powerful motor emits a pleasing yet almost futuristic whirl once engaged with the RED on/off switch. It did take a while for me to get use to holding the trigger, but like a power drill, it was quick and easy to release when the beater bar grabbed hold of something it shouldn't have. The clear dirt canister is large enough for a spin around the house. It dumps easy enough, though the release button and motion was less than intuitive for me. Practice getting it open before you use the machine the first time. It slides nicely once the red latch is released and the bottom door swings open into the trash bin. My older cloth or paper bag filters always left a strange dusty smell in the air after cleaning the floor. Not this one, the air is cleaner coming out than going in, 3-microns they state. amazing. The vacuum head makes easy work on caret or bare floors. It senses the surface and provides just the right suction removing small and large particles. I was amazed how much dust and dirt it removed. Being wider, I finish sooner covering lots of ground. The top LED display kept me informed of run time left and if the unit had any troubles like a stuck beater bar when I ran over the corner of a throw rug in the kitchen. The power unit comes apart from the stick vacuum head for use with its multiple attachments. I use this in the car.

There is something to be said that Dyson can continue to release products that keep people coming back even though on the surface they seem to not alter/improve all that much. This being our 4th Dyson vacuum (and 7th product overall) I can attest to the fact that at first we were on the fence about them as a brand. "Are they really worth it?" "Do they really offer anything over brands that cost 1/2 as much?" And the answer is yes. The warranty, design, performance, and quality is there in spades. These things simply hold up over time and perform well beyond when other makes sputter out and need to be replaced. Case in point; we still have two 1st gen Dysons. An upright as well as a handheld. Both still perform excellent and are used in dirtier areas (garage/back yard/pets, etc etc) so they are ~10 years old at this point. This all leads to the newest from Dyson in the vacuum world. Essentially it is the Torque Drive but with a 150% larger canister, this thing is our first to feature the anti-snag feature in the blades/rollers, as well as an updated digital display on the rear of the unit itself. The TD featured a single color (green on black) display while the Outsize has a multi-color HD screen which does little in the way of performance but looks so much crisper and nicer (especially at this price-point). Having used it a week I haven't had a single snag or bit of buildup on any of the rollers that come with the unit which feature the anti-snag design. Also, the digital display (while simple) is extremely useful in that it allows you to change between the 3 modes (single button; Eco, Auto, Boost) as well as display the battery life left in MM:SS format. The unit ships with all the usual attachments as well as an updated Hair Tool which features an anti-tangle, conical brush bar to help get pet hair out of upholstery and tight spaces. This will be getting MUCH use in our home of three dogs. The extension tube is a sleek dark grey/silver color which clashes a lot less than the previous purple (or red depending on which edition you purchased) and allows for handheld use as well as upright cleaning. Two batteries ship with the unit, which is great to know that you have a spare to throw in if the other dies on a really big cleaning job. I was able to charge them to 100% in 3 hours for the 1st battery and ~5 hours for the 2nd, so obviously that first one had a bit of juice in it straight out of the box. On auto mode the first battery lasted ~45 minutes and the 2nd lasted ~20 on boost mode only. I'm sure if you had only hardwood and/or no pets you could leave it on Eco and easily get ~60+ minutes out of each battery. If you are vacuuming that long requiring you to go through two batteries and are worried the first hasn't charged enough by time you deplete the 2nd, well...call in the professionals because that sounds like a HECK of a mess! Auto mode is great in that it will automatically adjust the power used by detecting the type of surface you are on (this is called Dyson Dynamic Load Sensor aka Dyson DLS). Smooth/hardwood floor? Less suction is required so it powers down. The thicker the carpet, the more that is required...so on and so forth. The display will adjust the time left instantly and let you know you have 17min on that thick carpet, but 35min left if you are doing smooth surfaces. All in all, another excellent product that is well worth the price of admission. Highly recommended and looking forward to 10+ years of giving the Outsize all it can handle!

The many parts and accessories to this vacuum make it extremely pleasing and versatile to use. The portability and minimal storage is very attractive. It is a vacuum that can be taken apart and stored in small spaces. The attachments are great for many cleaning needs, including dusting small spaces like the blinds on a window. This V11 model includes 2 battery packs that keep the vacuum cordless for as long you would need. The suction of the full stand-up was adequate, but the real draw was how it reacts on every surface. It is truly a great vacuum for all surfaces and is what a modern day family, really needs. The canister is large and is bag less and really easy to dispose of when it gets full and presumably very easy to clean with some water. Overall, the V11 is one of the best vacuums a family can get. To operate, you have to hold down a trigger on the vacuum, it will take some getting used to, but this is one of the best vacuums I have ever used and one that feels incredibly modern and is definitely a step in the right direction for updating the vacuum as we know it!

Our old school Dyson Ball finally started to have issues after 11 years, so we decided to give this a shot. The suction power is fantastic and the build quality seems to be good. I love that we have 2 removable batteries and a large bin. This makes cleaning the whole house easier. I also love the floor detect feature as it does a good job of picking the correct suction setting. The bin can be a little difficult to open and it is a little too heavy due to the size, but these are not deal breakers. The price however, is. Even with Black Friday savings, this is one expensive vac. If it holds up then it will be worth the purchase. Time will tell, but in the meantime it does what we want it to do. Going cordless is a very liberating experience.

Best Upgrades over the previous models -Larger bin -Removable battery pack (x2) -Full size brush head -More powerful motor -More attachments My Home -1800 sqft upstairs -1000 sqft finished downstairs -Carpet stairs -Living room rug 80sqft -Upstairs 3 bedrooms carpet -Living, Dining, Kitchen hard floors -Downstairs all hard floor. -4 x humans: 3 long hair, 1 short. -2 x ~20 lbs dogs: 1 white short fur, 1, black/brown med fur I have put some comparison photos in the review for size. We have been using the V11 Animal since it came out 2 years ago. It is still a fantastic cordless vacuum and will continue to use it. It will just be relegated to the finished basement only now. I also compare a bit to the V11. The great thing is that the accessories and even the chargers are the same, down to the wall mount. Read below though for one issue I ran into with the wall mount compatibility between the older V11 and the new Outsize. Immediately in my carpeted areas I noticed an improved dirt pickup amount and I was able to do my 14ftx14ft bedroom without having to empty the dust bin 3 times like normal. Game changer!! In fact, I did the whole master room and living room without needing to empty the bin. The more powerful motor, and larger cleaner head is great. And as always the Outsize will adapt to the floor type to get the best cleaning mode to the conditions which is great for battery life too. I also love how quite it is when using it. I was expecting to lose that feature with the increase in power, but NOT AT ALL. And honestly, I think that the decibel rating is a feature not advertised enough given the amount of power this and other Dyson models have. Battery life is great. The battery time indicator fluctuates quite a bit during use and it is a learning system, so it will fluctuate a bit more at the beginning. But on first use I can do my whole house on 1 charge with a little power to spare. I could almost finish the whole house on the V11 Animal before, just would have to empty the dust bin about 10 or so times. If you are going the extra mile and also dusting the blinds, base board, curtains, etc. The extra battery will be great here. Having the full size cleaner head is great, the only section that it will actually be less useful is the carpeted stairs, but I still have the V11 and it can tackle it just fine or just swap out the cleaner head as they are compatible. The upholstery tool is great and the no-tangle design of the brush is nice. Due to the extra power, I have not even attempted a few of the smaller interior door mats. The V11 Animal already was too powerful for those and I know the Outsize definitely will be. They are only like 2.5ft by 1ft size so most things would suck them up into the cleaner head. Never thought of the couch attachment until writing the review, so will give that a shot! Overall the Outsize is excellent and it's hard not to recommend. With the larger bin, if you have a lot of carpet, and the extra battery and charger, it definitely can be a great option for cleaning. I do have a two caveats and unfortunately they carry over from the V11 Animal; these have nothing to with the quality of the product, I’ve had no issues out of use over the 2 years of ownership and with the removable batteries now on the Outsize I will get even more life out of this new unit. That being said, Dyson prides itself in the efforts it takes in design and detail and I think they do achieve that with each product, but what irks me is the follow through on the full use of the product. First, the dock. I highly recommend securing the wall mount to a stud if you have that option, if you don’t...DO NOT use the included wall anchors. They are not strong enough nor designed to handle the continued force of taking the vacuum in and out of the dock and will fail quickly (experience). I recommend a toggle bolt as it will definitely hold...IF you are adamant about wall mounting. Second, where do I put all the accessories? It seems petty, but this should also be a part of the design process and included with the vacuum. The dock is very limiting and while it does achieve a nice minimalism design, its also not as practical, so the extra attachments get relegated to some where not usually as convenient. Dyson does sell the Dok, and since the V11 wall mount works with the Outsize, there shouldn't be an issue with the Dok either. (Side Note: I will add that while I did not remove the actual piece that mounts to the wall , I did have to swap out the part that the charger connection sits in. There does seem to be a slight difference in the design of the door that keeps the charger port on the dock seated. As soon as I swapped out that part, the Outsize slide right into place and started charging. Using the Outsize dock piece for the V11 had no issue and the V11 slid into place just as before to charge. So not really sure what the issue was there, it could have been as simply taking a part readjusted the charger port enough to adequately allow the Outsize to slid into place; which is what I am leaning towards at this point. It was too difficult to see that area when trying to figure out why it wouldn't slide down all the way at first.) Back to my second caveat, the Dyson Dok does solve not wanting/needing to attach to the wall, but the accessories are still left without a home. Both of my caveats can be easily remedied with a search online and a lot of low cost options are available if you decide to not want to wall mount and/or looking for a solution to hold the extra accessories. Wish this was all figured out with the final product. When it comes to size, the Outsize is just a tad taller than the V11 Animal and weight in the hand is unnoticeable, which makes dusting crown molding, blinds, and other tasks not resting on the floor just as easy as before. On the scales the weight difference is in ounces. So to recap: stronger motor, bigger bin, removable and extra battery, larger cleaning head, nearly the same weight and size, backwards compatibility with accessories, dock, and charger, and still quiet! What’s not to like? It is hands down an upgrade and definitely worth it if you are going the cordless route. And as the motto says…”everything can improve” and so it does.

We needed a new cordless vac to replace a Dyson stick vacuum that had worked hard for us for 7 years… we have 2 large breed dogs that shed a lot and we vacuum every day. Our house has a combination of hardwood floors, area rugs and wall to wall carpet as well as a couch that one of the dog has “claimed” as her own. The Outsize and the smart control makes vacuuming the different surfaces so much easier and extends the run time. It senses the change in surface and adjusts the suction to accommodate for the differences. And since it’s a cordless “stick” style vac, it makes cleaning the couch so much easier and quicker than a regular upright machine so instead of removing the hose, clicking on the attachment and then undoing the previous steps, picking the stick up and running it over the couch is way faster and more convenient. Also, the removable, washable and replaceable filters make for much cleaner air after running the vac. My only complaint is the weight. The oversized motor/collection can is a bit heavier than the previous stick vac we had, but the convenience of having the larger collection can is worth it. This model also comes with a standard with a second rechargeable batter with its own charging cord so no need to worry about running out of power before finishing the job! Dyson products may be a bit pricey, but (in my opinion) are worth it for the tech they cram into each device, the warranty and customer support are second to none. If you’re looking for a cordless vac, I would most definitely recommend this one.

This vacuum has excellent suction. I could not believe what it picked up the day after using our central vac. The canister was full after each room! I really like seeing what it is picking up and it is very easy to empty. The only disappointment for me is this particular model doesn’t have a light to show the surface in front of the vacuum. I also wish it had a flexible tube for attachments.

I’ve had the Dyson Outsize for about 3 weeks now and it’s working flawlessly. The lowest power mode (Eco) cleans all our carpets well, and one battery lasts over an hour. Though it’s one of the most expensive in the Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner range, it comes with features that are important for me. The dust bin is more than double the size of the other Dysons and the 12” brush head is wider too - about the same size as our old corded Hoover. Comes with 2 batteries and two chargers, which is very handy. It was a bit tricky to find a good place to hang it on a wall, which is essential because it is not self standing like traditional vacuums. The wall hanger also charges the battery while it’s attached to the cleaner. One thing to watch out for is the cleaner does stick out about 12” from the wall. Also, since it is not self standing, it’s tempting to rest it against furniture or a wall. The articulation of the cleaning head makes it easy for the whole thing to flop over. Since the cleaner is mostly constructed from hard plastic, my concern is it might crack if it flops onto a hard surface.
