Customers appreciate the fun and engaging gameplay, finding the job system and variety of classes to be enjoyable aspects of Final Fantasy Explorers. However, some feel the story is lacking and the game can become repetitive, particularly when playing solo. The game's difficulty may also be a factor for some players.

Game was extremely fun to play with friends. However I was the only one with a New 3ds xl and my friends complaints where that the camera was very hard to control. With the new system though the game played very well.

MMO-Lite with Final Fantasy

This is an odd game. On one hand, it's final fantasy, on the other, it's not like typical Final Fantasy games. It is not a jrpg. What it is, however, is a pretty good MMO that's been scaled way down to fit into your hands, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
The game play is a lot of fun. It is LESS Monster Hunter and more Phantasy Star Online, if you ever played that. The goal here is to collect items, craft new weapons, armor and accessories, and unlock Jobs.
If you're new to the Job system in Final Fantasy, it's just a way to say "class". Want to be a mage? Get the mage job. Want to be a fighter? Get the Fighter job. Simple and effective.
The graphics are standard fare, the characters are cute and some of your favorite Final Fantasy staples will show up. There's a lot of jagged lines but it's not ugly. There is no 3D effect at all, so it will not matter if you're playing on a 2DS or a 3DS.
The game does support the Circle Pad Pro, which you can use as a camera control stick, or if you have a "New" 3DS you can use the nub to control the camera, but you will have to go into options and enable the CPP for the nub to work. Otherwise, you're stuck using the dpad which I sometimes use anyway.
Would I recommend it to a friend? I'm going to say yes here but the truth is "maybe". If they don't like games that play in the MMO space or they don't like Final Fantasy at all then there are better games to spend your money on. HOWEVER, if an MMO type game is cool with you, and you have any love for Final Fantasy, particularly old school Final Fantasy, then go ahead and pick this up, especially if it's on sale.

Final Fantasy Meets Monster Hunter???

It all depends on what you're looking for. If you love Final Fantasy but want a more action focused experience, you'll be entertained. If you tried but were intimidated by Monster Hunter's mechanics and difficulty and still have interest in the 'monster hunting' genre, give this a shot. There's a ridiculous amount of customization options, but I've never felt they were necessary solo as it just feels too easy to me on single player. Character customization plays a more important role in online play though, as monsters get significantly stronger, though it still never reaches Monster Hunter difficulty and is much more forgiving.
If you're a big Monster Hunter fan and you're looking for that challenge with a Final Fantasy skin, you're going to be disappointed. This game won't test your skills, timing isn't crucial 99% of the time, and you'll probably get bored from the lack of challenge rather quickly.
I do think overall this is a good game. Just watch some videos and know what to expect before you buy.

You have probably seen a lot of "This is just a Monster Hunter rip off" or "Final Fantasy Explorers is just a fan service Monster Hunter game". Albeit true, Final Fantasy Explorers does have some redeeming points. It actually has better control than any Monster Hunter game I have ever played. It grabbed my attention from the beginning and I played it for about a week. Most of the jobs from the Final Fantasy series are present and there is a variety of jobs played online. Gil is a resource you always seem to need, while CP can be farmed easily by playing online with others. When farming Eidolons the game becomes a tedious mess, which more than likely you'll have to bench your monsters, hope you don't kill the Eidolon AND hope your Encase crystal surge procs. Unfortunately the latter part of the story and the end game felt lacking, which made me quickly shelf the game and move on.

If you have played monster hunter you can jump right onto this game. For people that havent tried or played mh this game teaches newcomers all the basic material they need to be a great explorer. If you are ever stuck, I really reccomend talking to the npc near the gate entrance. Hes the first npc you talk to. He has all sorts of useful information.
Dont play this game for the story. They have one but its nothing to talk about.
Co op. Online co op works great. My only complaint is that you have to edit chat boxes before you go online. While online you can chose from the premade messages you made. You cant have a realtime random conversation. Nintendo really hates people communicating in real time.
Couch co op works really great. If you have a friend or a husband or wife gf/bf this game turns into a murder party. Its so easy.
This game is pretty easy but once you beat the story, hard missions get unlocked. This is where it can get challenging. Luckily you can upgrade any piece of equipment you own.
Crafting is simple and upgrades define what they do.
Classes are unique and there are plenty of classes. Each class has their own skills that you unlock. Skills can be upgraded in a wide amount of variations. Want a bigger cure circle? Use a giant mutation and now you can upgrade your cure to have a bigger area of affect. Thats just an example
Also if you like collecting pets this game allows you to catch any monster in the game excluding bosses.
All in all this is a great installment for it being the first in the series. I can only imagine how awesome this would be if they make another one. Fixing the online chat would be a vast improvent.
Cons: lag if to much stuff is on the screen. Wish there were more areas.
This game is just plain fun 9/10

I looked forward to this game for months. I preordered it and received it promptly on time.
The game is similar in feel to Cristal Chronicles for the Game Cube but with almost no story, what little story there is you have to work hard to even notice. There are a lot of cool effects, good camera control (especially if you have the 3ds with the camera stick) and a fun combat ability upgrade style, a lot of older game character outfits weapons and 'summons' which include those older game characters. This a good casual game and has an 'away-from-game' portion to make gathering materials a little easier.

This is a fun game that's similar to Monster Hunter, but with a Final Fantasy job system. The game play can be somewhat boring single player since it's so easy, but the experience is better when co-op.

The game has quite some depth despite initially giving the impression of simplistic. The first few tutorials were ok, there was 1 particular mission where I was very lost and had to resort to youtube to see how to complete it. Perhaps some things were lost in translation. Otherwise the game is fun, multiplayer is great, quite a long game.

I have played this game and thus far have enjoyed it. This game does take some getting use to though, and I ran into a few situations where it took me a while to figure out what I was supposed to do. However, the game mechanics are excellent, which is one of the most important things for this type of game.

Those looking for a deeply complex story will be disappointed. FF Explorers lacks any real story, the premise merely being that you an "explorer." However, one can appreciate this game for just being a straightforward quest-focused game. The game just involves completing quest after quest, in a fairly limited map. Yet, the game remains surprisingly compelling. I've clocked a few dozen hours just replaying quests with the multiplayer co-op. For me, the co-op is the real fun aspect of this game. Creating a room and joining a room is quick and easy, so you can get down to the fighting in minutes. All in all, it's a fun game. Definitely worth $20, maybe $30 for most people, but $40 is a bit steep for the quality. However, I personally have gotten $40 out of this game for my own enjoyment.

It's a Monster Hunter clone but with FF characters. That's not a bad thing. But it gets very repetitive after the first 6-7 hours. Story is meh. If your a Gamer Zone member and can get this for $30 or less, than it's worth it. Play Fire Emblem Fates first...much better game!

I really like the multiclass aspect of the game. It makes for a somewhat new experience everytime you decide to pursue something new. Also the online boss battles are fun too :). If only they could improve communication between players, that'd make the game 5 stars for me.

If you're a Final Fantasy fan, you might really love this game. If you're not and you've played games like Monster Hunter or Ragnarok Odyssey Ace or even Toukiden then you'll know what to expect coming in. It doesn't have the same appeal that any of those games have when it comes to longevity and the sense of challenge and reward for farming that certain monster piece to complete that armor set. Don't misunderstand though, I think this game is a great new addition to the Final Fantasy spin-offs and it's miles better than Theatrythm, I just really hope that they can gain a better grasp of what makes these hunting games addictive enough to invest hundreds of hours into. If you want an action hunting game that you'll play for about 30-40 hours and maybe not go back to again because you've seen it all, then this game should fill that hunger for you.

I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan, and while I prefer the traditional turn-based JRPGs, I still enjoy games like this. This is a fun game if playing in short bursts, but the repetitiveness drives me insane when I try to play more than an hour at a time.

This is a good game, and i would recommend it to anyone that would like to get the easier monster hunter experience, with a final fantasy theme. I like it, but it's a little too repetitive. But so is the game that this game is similar to.

AS the title suggests this game is very much a clone of Monster Hunter except that the monster are all from the Final Fantasy IP. there is a nice ability to play as some of your favorite characters but the game still ends up feeling repetitive having to go through quest after quest and then grinding for supplies to make new weapons, armor, or accessories. One nice feature is the ability to customize your special attacks so that you can, for instance, cast a fire spell that also does Thunder damage and there are quite a lot of other abilities that can be added. Like I said, not a bad game by any means; I just think my expectations were too high.

The game is finally out after about 1 year of being released in Japan. This game will elicit obvious comparisons to monster hunter and while there are similarities they are two very different games. The game charges you with being an explorer, trying to obtain crystals which have become a source of power in the game world. Shortly after crash landing on the island due to everyone's favorite dragon, the player is equipped with a weapon, some armor and a few quests to get the lay of the land. Unlike monster hunter this game has one huge interconnected map which can be traversed initially only by foot but within a short while you are given an airship to instantly warm to certain parts. It ranges from lakes, volcanoes, meadows and underground ice caverns. What this games lets you do is pick from any of the job classes many are familiar with, including warrior, thief, white mage, black mage, etc. The job classes can be easily switched are there are a multitude; while you initially start with 3 basic ones [warrior, white mage, black mage] the game lets you take quests to unlock more. Each job is limited to specific types of skills e.g black mage is limited to black magic etc. The draw of the game is letting the player experience these in real time and let you essentially roleplay as many of the series heroes and villains via armor sets and weapons, which do look nice [an early example is sephiroth's armor set].
One annoying problem I have with the game however, is the tediousness of the quests at times. To obtain sephiroth's armor set you must obtain 10 of an item that is a quest reward for one particular quest. This is not good design, and in my eyes, is a cheap way of adding "gameplay". Most quests are gathering/hunting and the monsters are varied. There are a lot of things to fight. Monsters occasionally drop atmaliths, or their souls, for you to reanimate and take into the field as companions. These are vital, and in many cases they will do more damage than you. The level up and become stronger. It is also possible to summon too! Overall the game is fun, and there is multiplayer but you are limited to the latest quest done among all players. Higher level players will be limited to doing only quests that the lowest level have done which is tedious and annoying [but there's always a choice, so I can't just ding them on that].
The game is fun for short bursts but I can't bring myself to sit down for a long time and grind away. Some may be able to do that and sometimes I may decide I feel like doing so but right now, there's too high of an opportunity cost. Have fun!
