I am a big fan of Final Fantasy games. Just a fan of heart since I was 14 years old. Love the story.

Solid ARPG. Fun combat. Beautiful Graphics. Great characters. Decent story. Plot is well paced for first half of story, goes way to quickly through second half. The dungeons generally are a lot of fun. The world is good, although the level design can get messy sometimes. Fast Traveling takes a long time.

    Great and worth the wait

I've read a lot of other reviews for this game and one thing I've seen trending is the '10 year wait' remark. While this may be technically true, it is not true that we have had to wait 10 years for a final fantasy game to his the shelves. The first Final Fantasy 13 came out in 2009. Then there were the subsequent 13's. So, the wait wasn't really 10 years in my opinion. That being said, was the fifteenth installment worth the 7-10 year wait? The short answer: Yes. Gone is the linear pathways of 13...and lets be real here, all other Final Fantasy's made before 15 (not including the MMO's). The story (even if told somewhat loosely while you are running around completing everything BUT the story quests) seems to have matured since 13. At least the dialogue flows a little better. I haven't beaten the game yet, but I've put a good 35 hours into it. The story still has a lot of potential to go off the deep end. I'll find out soon enough. The battle system is something to get used to, but if you are a veteran FF player you will already expect something different than past installments. It's fun to utilize once you get used to it. Experiment with your party's techniques. That makes it a lot more fun in my opinion. Hunts have been brought back, reminiscent of FF12. The music--oh God the music--is great! Every FF has a great score, no doubt, but what I like about 15 is if you don't like their particular score, you can buy (using gil, not real money) old sound tracks from the previous installments and listen to your classic favorites. I pretty much have FF6 music on loop. Make sure to purchase the MP3 player from the Regalia's store so that you can listen to the old soundtracks while exploring the vast world in FF15. Now, the main reason for my 4 out of 5 star review stems from the supposed 'open world' theme. Yes, it's pretty open as far as FF goes, but it can be quite limiting when thinking you can just 'jump' over some rocks that would be easy to get over in games like Skyrim only to find out there's an invisible wall blocking your way. Or a thin line of trees block you from progressing in a certain direction. So, just be forewarned, though FF15 is VERY open world and there's so much to explore, at times you will find you can't trek up a slope of rocks or between trees to get to some places that the map makes you think you can get to. Who know's, maybe an airship will become available later and those places will become accessible. I don't know as I refuse to read spoilers. There's so much more that makes this game great, so get out there and play it already if you are on the fence. It's a journey worth taking.

This game is great but things just don't come together the way I was expecting. There is little to no character development, the game just starts out right away and you don't get to know the characters. Although two nations are at war, there is no sense of urgency at all when you're just roaming around fighting beasts and collecting weapons. And the story is just very confusing and doesn't have a strong focus. The leveling system is a joke and it's been dumbed down for newcomers. BUT bad things aside there are great things about the game. The graphics are amazing! There are some long load screens but once a new section is loaded you'll understand because each map is massive and extremely detailed. The music is also fantastic - the new music blends in very well with the final fantasy repertoire AND you can also find and buy in the game CDs of all the music of other final fantasies to listen to while you drive. Such a good extra to add in for all the die hard FF fans. The gameplay is great. The fights feels very fluid and intuitive. I really like the idea of the link attacks and parries. And I like how the use of items has really become necessary. In every other final fantasy by the time you hit high level you never needed to use any items any longer. One thing I dislike about the gameplay is the use of magic - you can only have a small number of spells and you have to craft them, but at least magic is very strong in the game and when you actually use it it slams down significant damage. Anyhow, end rant- the game has its flaws but it's fun and has amazing graphics, good music and fluid gameplay and battle system.

A possible game of the year for me

While I have not finished the game yet, I have put a good 25+ hours into it so far. I am already thinking this is my favorite game this year and possibly the best Final Fantasy game I've ever played. It's unique but at the same time has a lot of things in it that Final Fantasy fans will find familiar. It uses a very action-oriented combat system compared to previous entries, but it's a fun system. The story is excellent so far. As well, the game is very open and contains many side quests. It seems to have more of a western RPG feel to it that a traditional JRPG. I want to mention, too, that if you have a 4K TV with HDR, the game looks stunning. It's among the best HDR implementations so far. I have very few negatives to say about the game except the camera can be challenging at times. You'll fight with it particularly in battles. I think Final Fantasy fans should love the game, but it isn't just for them. It's a very fun RPG and adventure title in general.

Amazing Entry in the FF Series!

This is definitely a more modern Final Fantasy in terms of Combat and World Exploration. It's similar to Dragon Age Inquisition but much faster and chaotic at times. The character movement is fluid and graphics are gorgeous. Sound and music is just as good and any FF game, which is great. There is so much to do in the game from side quests that include hunting monsters for resources and tombs to explore for unique weapons, and more laid back activities such as fishing and chocobo races. Would recommend to any seasoned FF player and new comers alike.

New spin on a classic series. The combat is fluid and the story is pretty deep. There's tons of side quests and plenty of places to explore. Now that the Vanguard goes off road, it's even easier to explore new areas.

This is the first open world final fantasy on the scale of somthing like skyrim or the witcher were you can go almost anywere with a few restrictions but not much you play as noctis a prince acompaned by his companions body gaurd a cook and child hood friend gladous ignis and prompto as there on a road trip only to be caugt up in a war between 2 other countrys noctis mus reclaim his throne thats all ican say with out spoiling the plot long story short tons of side quests costumes costomizatition minigames secret dungons staples of traditinal final fantasy but in the form of a western rpg. But still verry japanese at the same time lots to keep you busy for a while

    A Different Final Fantasy Experience

For those of you expecting a turn-based rpg like the of 7, 8, or 9, you are in for a surprise. This game is an action rpg through and through. Meaning no turn base combat, but open world combat against enemies. Graphics are gorgeous and the game is quite beautiful. The storyline is scattered between a movie that square enix has released and a mini anime that is available to see on youtube. Its not very necessary to watch them, but it adds some depth and clarity to what is occurring in game. The game was a super fun experience to me. At the time I played, Noctis, the game's protagonist, was the only character I was able to play as. He is able to equip several types of weaponry (ie swords, daggers, lances etc) and switch between several mid combat to defeat his enemies. your AI computer comrades are quite smart and capable of holding their own and aid you in combat. Each weapon type corresponds to an enemy weakness, but I found myself just stabbing away at enemies with whatever weapon I had that was strongest. Magic spells are reduced to what is basically a grenade you toss with magical components. So for those of you that hope to play as a "mage/caster" you will be disappointed. There are tons of sidequests that amount to either killing beasts or fetching items, so on and so forth to the point that it will definitely add a few dozen hours of entertainment. And there is a healthy bit of endgame to enjoy as well. The game now lets you change between Ignis, Gladiolus, Prompto, and Noctis to play as, and has added bosses since the game's inception via downloadable patches which has positively expanded upon the game's world and a player's freedom. All in all, the game was a great time that took me about 60 hours to complete and left me (despite its shortcomings) genuinely excited for the future of the Final Fantasy franchise.

Prince Noctis' story is a tale worth told

Final Fantasy XV is a game that was in development for about a decade. The world is now more open (than it was in the linear Final Fantasy XIII), and the combat system has stepped away from the turn-based system employed in older Final Fantasy games, moving towards an action-based system used in titles like Kingdom Hearts. This game is definitely worth playing to see the story of Prince Noctis unfold, and even though the end game moves away from the open world experience towards a linear conclusion, I would definitely play this game again.

I was never a fan of FF, but this game is fantastic. The combat is exciting, there are enough side quests to keep you busy, and the graphics are beautiful. This game isn't without its flaws (seemingly endless driving, long load times, and unvarying character dialogue/interjections) but it isn't enough to detract from the overall quality of the game. Highly recommended.

Overall I was satisfied with the game. Combat is more like an action RPG where you control only the main character. Not as repetitive as some of the past games with random encounters and you can largely avoid random fights in the over world if you want to. Similar gameplay to Final Fantasy Crisis Core for the PSP and much different than Final Fantasys before FF XII. The story has the backbone of one that could have been not only one of the best in the Final Fantasy series but of all time, but you can tell where some parts were obviously cut or scrapped and then pieced back together as the developer rushed to get the game out. Story sometimes moves very fast and is quite exciting while other parts really drag and some are never explained at all or touched on again after the beginning of the game. Well worth a play. Can easily complete the main game in under 40 hours if you want, or you can spend probably 60-70 hours on it with side quests and extras.

An open world experience with a riveting story. In the normal series fare, the game throws you into a unique world where both small and massive creatures exist in both strife and harmony. the comradery of your four squad is key as you can just back and forth between the characters and fine tune the game to fit your play style. Just let the world absorb you in and the story will unravel throughout the course of the game.

If you are a fan of the series, this is an easy pick up. Good story, fun combat, and a beautiful open world make this a fun play. However, I would say this is the easiest final fantasy I have played to date. Watching Kinsglaive before playing also makes this game a lot better.

Final Fantasy xv has had a troubled development cycle. That much is well known. This makes it even more surprising that the game ended up this good. While the story is fragmented and doesn't make much sense (it's pretty obvious they took a bunch of plot from versus xiii and tried to thread it together with the new plot) The characters are suberb. Gameplay wise the real time combat is spot on and satisfying, and the world is varied and interesting to boot. The scrambled plot does leave behind a bitter feeling, but that itself gets remedied by the incredibly well done ending. So if you can look past the problems with the story, Final Fantasy XV may well be be one of the best game experiences you ever have

My only complaint is the camera right now, when you get into wooded areas battles become frustrating due to the trees and bushes getting in the way. With that out of the way.... I'm totally enjoying this game. I'm a long time fan of the series and I feel its finally back on track. The battle system is great, I rarely avoid combat, that's how much fun it is. If you are completionist this game will definitely keep you busy, I'm over 100 hours in and I still have a ton of sidequests to do, some more interesting than others obviously. You can fly through the main story in a short period. If you are a fan of the series do yourself a favor and try this game.
