    Top Notch 3D!

The 3D effects in animated/ CGI effects movies are always the best because the depth of view is more flexible. Sin City: A Dame To Kill For is flexing all it's 3D muscles! Broken glass and snow seemed to be falling in my front room, I almost turned around to see if there was a bullet hole in my wall.

Best Buy's Sin City 2 is a Steelbook "To Die For"

Even though Best Buy's price for this Blu-ray set was $3 more than competing stores I opted to purchase this exclusive Steelbook edition and I couldn't be happier with my decision. Not only is the movie a great sequel, but the sturdiness of the steelbook and it's artwork is second to none!

No where near as good as Sin City...that being said, still a solid film and the 3D is great. One of the few movies actually shot in 3D.

    A Solid Sequel/Prequel

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For may have gestated too long. In 2005, when the original Sin City film was released, there wasn't much else like it. The visual spectacle was every bit as compelling as the gritty, hard-boiled narrative, and the movie oozed style in every frame. Nine years later, however, it feels a bit dated. Moviegoers have been inundated with this kind of green-screen movie where only the actors are real and everything else is digitally added later. That being said, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is still a pretty solid movie, despite feeling like a visual rehash of something we've seen many times before. The performances are mostly good; Mickey Rourke is still funny and menacing as Marv, and Eva Green is sultry and dangerous, though Josh Brolin feels a little wooden at times as Dwight. Director Robert Rodriguez does an excellent job again of capturing the largely monochromatic look of Frank Miller's graphic novels. I don't feel like this movie is as good as the original Sin City, but if you like that one, there's a good chance you'll like this one, too. If, however, you didn't like Sin City, there isn't much chance you'll like this prequel/sequel.

Frank Miller and his dark arts...

Frank is back with what he does best, ensemble cast with excellent production design and shadows. This bluray is best suited to be watched in a room with minimal to no ambient lighting... in such a setting you could get immersed into the world ..crazy yet captivating world of Miller and his dark mind. This review is more about the sound effects and visual fx than the plot. I don't care much about the plot, but it wasn't bad either. Lets get it, he is not a Copolla or an Ang Lee, you watch the movie to see a comic come to life and it does. Excellent low frequency effects to test your home theater system and visual black levels to test your projector's \ TVs capability. Its sold at 14.99 and that is really low for a 3D Bluray..catch it before its gone!

Good, But Not As Good As The First

The first Sin City captured magic, certainly it was a tough film to pull off and onto of that successfully doing so. After a long wait the sequel finally arrives and it has more of the same you've come to expect from a Sin City movie. They do a great job of capturing the feel of the books, much like they did with the first, however the beats of the movie closely (maybe too closely) follow the original, having said that, most sequels do though. There's a couple actors replacing some of the original cast members and it can be jarring at first but in some chases it couldn't be avoided. If you were a fan of the first Sin City movie then you're sure to enjoy this one.

I watched this movie in 2D at a friend's house and thought it was pretty good. There are many reviews of the film online, rating it everywhere from awful to excellent. If you've never seen them, and are unfamiliar with the Sin City franchise, you should probably read those before purchase, as it's not everyone's cup of tea. On that note, my review is on the 3D Blu-Ray, not the movie itself. Many movies available as 3D Blu-Rays feature post-production 3D. What that means is that the movie is shot on standard 2D cameras, and a fake 3D effect is added later using computers. While with some films (Titanic, The Force Awakens) the effect is rather impressive, it doesn't change the fact that it's fake. While this film is heavily manipulated to create the look of the Sin City graphic novels, all the live action sequences were captured with the Arri Alexa 3D digital camera system. What that means, is that before all the computer effects, this movie started with a digital capture of all the live action in true 3D, and it shows. The 3D effect on this Blu-Ray is on par with Avatar, making it a must-have for anyone with a 3D home theater system. The DTS 5.1 surround is also quite impressive, which, if you like the movie, makes watching it a 5-star immersive experience.

If you are a fan of movie shot in a particular style than this movie is for you. This movie is a Frank Miller movie and you know it. The cinematography used in this movie is great. However, I don't believe it was as successful as the first was. It is hard to put my finger on it, but it just lacked something that made the first one is much better. It is jampacked with great actors that do a good job in their roles. The plot didn't work out as well in this movie as in the first. None the less this a good movie to watch if your in to graphic novels or cool action scenes. Worth a watch.

    Fair sequel to Sin City

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is a sequel to the earlier Sin City. Like the earlier film, this generally looks like high contrast black and white, with occasional splashes of color for emphasis. As you may guess, the splashes are mostly arterial red. Mickey Rourke again plays Marv, the anti-hero. The story is not as gripping as the first movie, but attention doesn't wander too much. The big improvement is the 3D photography. I don't know if it was photographed in, or converted to 3D, but depth is very well presented.

If you're looking for the further adventures of the characters from the first movie, this isn't going to satisfy that desire. While the filmmakers managed to capture the same style as the first film it lacks the gripping story telling. That doesn't mean the films is a complete failure, the film has some decent elements, the JGL sequence is pretty good, if the ending is less than satisfying, and the Eva Green story is the best of the bunch. The overall film is decent to good, definitely check it out if you liked the first film.

Excellent blu-ray release - AQ & PQ are both excellent, although the film certainly pales in comparison to the original. Lots of great elements from a stylistic perspective - all the graphic novel elements are present here like they were in the first one, paired with highly stylized violence and action scenes. But the story wasn't nearly as good, and the characters aren't really ones that you care about like in the first film. Still worth a watch, and this release is top-notch!

    A Film To Kill For?

Straight from the pages of Frank Miller's cutting edge series “Sin City”, co-directors Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez reunite to bring the visually stunning stories back to the screen. Dwight McCarthy (Josh Brolin) struggles with his inner demons and tries to maintain control until his former lover, the goddess Ava Lord (Eva Green), returns wanting his help to escape her abusive husband. Though once he learns her true intentions are far more sinister than they appear, he recruits the help of Marv (Mickey Rourke) and Gail (Rosario Dawson). While a cocky young gambler (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) takes his chances winning against the most powerful man in Sin City, Senator Roark (Powers Boothe). But this is Senator Roark’s least of problems because Nancy Callahan (Jessica Alba) has been driven insane by John Hartigan's (Bruce Willis) selfless suicide and is no longer a damsel in distress and is out for blood, compelled to avenge Hartigan by hunting down Senator Roark.

I enjoyed the first movie of Sin City at the time it first came out. However, although this sequel is still very nice to look at, the story just didn't keep my attention. In addition, this sequel took too long for it to get any media attention which in turn reduced the "want" in seeing it. If you are a fan of Sin City and want to complete your collection then get it. However, I would not recommend for a casual buy.

I wouldn't kill for this movie but I sure would stomp the living **** out of someone to watch it again. The 3-D on this offering I was a tad bit skeptical about but it fits very nicely with the comic-book style of the movie. Very nicely done although Nancy Callahan doesn't get quite the story background I thought she deserved. Overall a highly enjoyable watch. Not quite five stars but a definite solid four.

I own quite a few 3D movies, so I think I know a good 3D experience when I see it. This goes right along with other 3d movies like, gravity, transformers and avatar. Minimal ghosting/crosstalk if any, very immersive, you probably have to cut on a light in the room occasionally to make sure your not right there. Plenty of screen popping effects, you won't be disappointed if you pick this up just based on the 3D experience. The story is okay, a little hard to follow, but I don't really care about the story. Just the awesome 3d experience,I'm quite surprised this on sell for under 15 dollars. Usually 3d bluray's with this caliber of effects is in the 30 dollar plus range, its a must buy if you enjoy 3d as I do. I hope this review helps my fellow 3d lovers.
