Customers are saying

Customers value the nüvi 55LM 5" GPS for its ease of use, lifetime map updates, and accurate navigation. Many appreciate the screen size and find it to be a good value for the price. While some users noted that the battery life could be improved, the positive feedback on features like lane assist and overall functionality outweighs this concern.

I bought this never Garmin unit to replace an older one I gave my son for his travels to a new job on New York. I love the Lifetime Map Updates feature and really appreciate the split screen with the intersection diagrams when travelling in unfamiliar areas.

Right out of the box the unit worked. Battery was almost fully charged. the down side was the Suction Mount, would not stay stick to the glass. Essay fix ordered a ChargerCity EasyBlade Car CD Slot Mount . No more problems. Love Garmin 55LM 5" GPS, the registration and updates went very well too.

I have not had my product long and only have utilized it locally, but the true test will be when I head north. So far I am impressed, it has been an upgrade from my past GPS. I like the lifetime updates, the easy to use features and the size of the screen. I only wish it would reroute you if you drive by the location you should be at, it just assumes youve made it if you are close by the location. Still satisfied just the same!

I'm really amazed at how well these Garmin Nuvis work. Inputting a destination is intuitive and quick, and the unit's spoken turn by turn directions are clear and well timed. Graphics are bold and crisp and the 5-inch screen is easy to see while it's sitting on my dash. Out of the box I plugged it into my computer (Mac) to register it and found a firmware update and minor map update available. This procedure is quick and painless via the Garmin Express application that you download to the computer. I have both the Nuvi 55LM and the older Nuvi 52LM and they have slight differences. My only disappointment with the 52 is that it doesn't work well with Garmin Base Camp, which I use to look at routes and waypoints from my hikes with my hand-held Garmin E-Trex. As said, the Nui 52 isn't compatible with Base Camp. The Nuvi 55 is designed to be compatible with it. Missing from the 55 is the ability to input a Zip Code as a way to get started finding a destination. The 52 has input for that. Finding by street address is simple with either one. And with both, you can touch a spot on its map with your fingertip and it will take you there if you want to do it that way. Both units are excellent and easy to use.

After years of using one of the first Garmin Nuvi's, my old GPS died & I was left looking for a new one. I wanted a nice GPS, with some special features (like lane assist), but didn't want to pay the price of some of the more expensive models. After reading other positive reviews online, I decided to go with this model. I'm so glad that I did! It is very easy to use, has lifetime maps & updates, and gets me to where I need to go quickly & without issues. I also like the restaurant symbols that help you find places to stop and eat during your travels. Liked it so much, I bought one for my fiance' as well! Great product, great price!

One can't seem to go wrong with a Garmin. Very user-friendly, lifetime maps. The restaurant symbols make it easy to locate a place to stop during travels. Excited we don't have to borrow my Dad's GPS anymore! We have our own. And considering I bought it online on 'Black Friday', it was a great price.

Used a few times now. Easy set up, picks up satellite quickly. Nice size and clear maps. Like the split screen when approaching ramps, turns, etc. Just a good quality GPS for the money!

I looked at higher priced GPS's, but Best Buy had this one at an amazing sale price and I couldn't pass it up. I love that we can get updates on it. Nice size. Easy to use. Bought as a gift for my husband who bought a new Prius without a GPS in it. He has been absolutely delighted with it so far.

Works good, nice size, easy to use. A few minor flaws with it. First I updated the maps right away so they would be at the most current version. After doing so, it tried to direct me to take a road that has been closed down for over 10 years. Very odd that this was an issue. Second thing is it sometimes has me go a very convoluted way, like having me drive an extra block, turn right, then turn right again and circle back to the location that I could have just turned left at and been at my destination already. Sometimes I use it in areas that I know exactly where I am going just to test it and it wants to send me on a longer route, even though settings are set to shortest route. Overall it works for the most part and for the price I'm satisfied.

I loooooove this GPS! Some people think that this is too small, but for me, it's just the right size! It pretty much has everything and is very updated. Very easy to use and navigate using this GPS. It lets you know if you are at a school zone and if you're over speeding.

It's very easy to use, accurate with the directions it doesn't take you in circles like most built in car gps do. The only fault I noticed is that you have to keep it plugged into the charger.

I bought this GPS to replace my old garmin which was over 10 years old. It has a great display that you can see clearly and includes the up to date info. Turns on a lot quicker than on my old GPS. You can program it to give you more or less details on road info. There are few things I miss from my old GPS which I could probably download from garmin.com. There are less options on the car icon to choose from, and less voice options. My old garmin had some humorous voices on it along with the everyday English speaking voices- like yeti, and dr.nightmare. Other than that the GPS works well.

Really like this unit. While your phone has GPS, it tends to kill the battery quickly and doesn't work where there is no signal. Lifetime maps combined with the low price makes this a winner

Really like the approaching exit views, the overall look and feel to the case, and the simple operating logic. The address search is improved over my old Nuvi 55, and I'm sure I will appreciate the lifetime maps feature. One negative: I liked the attachment method better on the old one which clicked in top and bottom better than this new one which clicks in the center of the back. Also, was disappointed that this one did not come with the protective case which I had to buy later. These are not big deals though, and I will continue to buy Garmins when considering GPS units.

Definitely the GPS to choose for overseas travel. Especially for Europe, needed only one additional map option versus the 2 tomtom would have required. For the price tomtom wanted to get the coverage I needed, I was able to buy the Garmin and the upgrade and the Garmin has lifetime USA map upgrades. Traveled Ireland, Slovakia and Czech Republic and Garmin didn't steer me wrong.
