Meat probe is faulty.

Received my smoker last week. I have done three cooks on it so far and its been pretty good. However, the meat temperature probe is malfunctioning and not reading correctly. The probe started off fine, but started fluctuating all over the place after an hour of cooking. Meat Probe was reading 300 degrees while my instant read was reading 131. For the price paid I would expect everything to work flawlessly.

An Amazing Addition To My Kitchen!

Like just about everyone else, I had so many questions about an "indoor smoker," like how can such a thing be, especially with "no smoke!" But as a person who is always willing to try out something new, I jumped at the opportunity to test the GE Profile Indoor Smoker.
After the smoker arrived at my house, I noticed how much smaller it was than I originally anticipated. In my mind I was comparing it to traditional smokers that seem to be a bit tall. But as it turns out, it is plenty big enough to handle a LOT of smoking.
Unpacking was easy, for the most part. I would highly recommend opening the box from the bottom. When I tried to remove the smoker from the top, it didn't want to come out. So I cut the tape on the bottom, and just lifted the box up. I did this for both the shipping box, and the product box.
The box contains the smoker, drip tray, three racks, two rack mounts, water trough and holder, a temperature probe and holder, and even a complimentary bag of wood pellets to get you started. The bag was more than big enough to fill up the hopper with a good bit left over. This saved me an additional trip to the store, thank you, G.E.! Also, there was the usual literature included in the box as well. Speaking of the literature, there is no "quick-start guide" included. But after mulling this around a bit, I realized this was a good decision on the part of G.E. There are a few things that just don't need to be rushed through in order to prevent possible disasters, both in food quality and safety. So you're kind of forced to read through everything in order to understand exactly how to use it. Oh, one other thing, there is a recipe booklet inclosed, but I think it is intended more along the lines of a book of suggestions to help the user get a good understanding on the overall principles of smoking meats, spices to use, smoking times, and so forth.
So, after unpacking the box, getting everything assembled, and reading through the instructions, it was time to see what I could do. It is at this point I should confess I have never smoked anything before. The closest I have ever come was to add smoke flavoring to food. So this is quite the learning adventure for me.
The recipe book has recipes for larger cuts of meat, anywhere from four to six pounds or more. Since it is just me, four pounds of smoked meat would take a long time to finish off. So I had to mentally calculate not only cooking times, but also the amount of spices to use. I had a chuck roast in the fridge, and even though I have never heard of anyone smoking a roast, I thought, "Why not?" So, following the instructions in the book I gave it a shot.
THE PROCESS
In a nutshell, G.E. has made smoking foods easy with the Profile Indoor Smoker. Simply put, you make sure the pellet hopper is full and that there is water in the trough, set a couple of settings, and you're off. And I realized that my inexperience with smoking foods could not be factored fairly into the Product Review equation.
One of the first things I want to point out is that "Smokeless" does not mean odorless. After the smoker warmed up, a noticeable odor was present, but without any smoke. There is a smoke detector in the kitchen, and it did not go off, which means any smoke was extremely minimal. Is the odor a bad thing? Absolutely not. Nothing smells better than the odor of cooking food, especially when it is combined with the odor of burning wood!
Throughout the smoking process I observed the cooking chamber quite frequently, thanks to the interior chamber light. I noticed smoke flowing into the chamber, but it wasn't an "engulfing" smoke, but rather a "timid" smoke. Yes, it completely surrounded the meat, but it was more ghost-like. So I was quite interested in the ultimate taste result.
When the timer went off, I took the roast out of the smoker and wrapped in aluminum foil and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then it was time to see what I had created. Now, it may appear as though I am bragging just a bit, but the flavor was astounding. The included wood pellets were a hybrid mix of different woods, so there was no distinct singular flavor. I was happy with the spice recipe I chose, and it was quite interesting when coupled with the smoke flavor. I used a smoke level of 5, which is the strongest level available with this smoker. The levels range from Zero to Five.
After snacking happily on the roast, I decided I had best clean the smoker. Before I forget, the recipe booklet recommends brushing the cooking rack with olive oil to minimize sticking. This is a good suggestion to follow, as I found it quite helpful at cleanup. I made sure to clean everything thoroughly so as not to build up a lot of smoke and grease. Clean up was easy, actually. You must be sure to remove and clean the water trough as there endes up being a good amount of debris from the burned pellets. I used a grease-cutting dishwashing soap, which was quite adequate.
I then repeated the experience, but this time using a whole chicken. I followed the recipe in the booklet exactly, and so had to make a trip to the store to get a couple of bags of pellets. For the chicken I used Mesquite pellets. OMG! I am now officially addicted to my smoker! It turned out to be a masterpiece, and I am looking forward to a very long and wonderful relationship with the G.E. Indoor Smoker.
So did I encounter anything that might be considered a negative? I thought at first the instruction manual was a bit vague, but a quick YouTube search found several videos apparently produced by G.E. Any questions I had were easily answered. The one and only thing I really don't like about this smoker is the Counter Guard. It simply slides under the front of the smoker, and with even the slightest touch, it goes sliding out from under it. It would have been good to have a little clip or something to keep it secured in place. Other than that, I am super happy with this Profile appliance. (I own a couple of others as well!).
I would heartily recommend the G.E. Profile Indoor Smoker to anybody and everybody, especially those who, like myself, are complete newbies at food smoking.

The idea of an indoor BBQ has been around for a while,
and GE seems to have gotten it right. The smoker uses two heat
sources to cook with. a coil at the bottom of the unit heats the food
while the Active Smoke Filtration turns the pellet smoke into warm air
that enters the unit through the vents, spreading the smoke flavor.
There are no smoke clouds inside or outside the unit. However, you can
smell the smoked food after a while of cooking similar to how you
can smell something cooking in the oven.
The smoker is small enough to fit under the counter but large enough to cook 8 lbs of
beef and more. It has a sleek design with easy to use buttons. The display is large enough
for anyone to read, and has a nice friendly interface with touch sensitive buttons and a dial.
Assembly is very quick, as the rack supports just pop in. The drip pan slides into the lower
rack slot, and the three cooking racks can go in at different heights as needed. The included
meat thermometer pops into the top right side of the interior. The thermometer slot is covered by
a spring hinged flap to help keep food debris from entering the hole.
The cooking coil on the bottom of the smoker is protected by a tin cover, keeping the coils from
getting mucked up. After the racks and rack supports are removed, the coil and cover swing up
to clean the bottom of the smoker.
It's very easy to select the different cooking profiles, or use the custom setting to enter
your own temp and smoke levels. Each preset cooking profile also gives you the option to
change the desired smoke level. There is a pamphlet included with the manual that has
several recipes with cooking instructions and how to use the smoker for each one.
The manual tells you how to set up the cooker. It comes with enough smoker pellets
to cook probably 2 different meals. The manual tells you the importance of priming
the pellet auger when the hopper has been completely empty. It is also very important
to make sure the water reservoir is full to the correct line. The smoker should not be used
without water to cool the used smoker pellets.
It's very important to stick with the recommended cooking instructions until you get
familiar with how the smoker works, and how the different foods turn out.
I cooked a pork loin with the recommended settings and it came out fantastic.
The meat was nice and tender with plenty of smoke flavor. Everybody loved it.
For my second attempt I tried the chicken wing recipe. I had a few pounds of
chicken wings I froze a few months ago. I thawed the wings and put them
in the smoker with the recommended settings. This time, things didn't turn
out very well. The chicken had a nice smoked flavor on the outside, but the
inside seemed overcooked and rubbery. I don't think it was the smoker,
but most likely an effect of trying to use the frozen wings.
I later tried to cook some chicken breasts that I soaked in a marinated.
I put 4 pieces of chicken in (about 4.5lbs) and set the smoker at the chicken
setting and inserted the thermometer into the largest breast. It took over 5 hours
for the probe to reach the correct temperature. I took the chicken out, and it
looked well with a nice smoked color to it, but the chicken was way too dried out.
The flavor was very good with just enough smoke, however, I ended up throwing it out
because it was just too tough.
For my forth attempt, I followed the book and cooked a brisket. That came out
just as good as my first attempt. Everything worked perfect and came out
just as perfect.
Someone with more smoking experience might have better results with
different foods, but I will stick with the basics for a while longer.
There are a lot of different smoking pellets out there to choose from,
try to find the best quality food grade pellets for better smoking results.
Virtually any smoker pellets should work though, but try to get a flavor that
can basically go with anything to start with, so that you don't have to
keep trying to swap out the pellets all the time.
The smoker will notify you when you should check the water tray
or add more pellets to continue cooking.
Overall, this smoker is a great appliance that can offer amazing indoor
smoked foods all year round, if used correctly.

I have a big green egg that I love and do all my smoking on. This is great, in summer, during nice weather as I live in Minnesota... I seem to decide (quite often) that I would like to smoke something when the weather isn't cooperating. Winter is just miserable for trying to smoke meats outside. So,
I was very intrigued when I learned of this GE profile indoor smoker. I must say I am not disappointed. It seems a bit small on the inside but actually I can smoke about the same amount of meat as on my egg. The great part about it is, it's soo easy! Just plug it in, load with pellets and you're in business. The main things people smoke are presets on the menu and the custom setting is perfect for dialing in anything else. You can use the included probe to get to the right internal temperature or just time the smoke for how long you want. The smoke level can be changed from light to heavy (5 levels) You can go to work for the day or smoke overnight and not have to worry about watching a charcoal grill. When it's done cooking, it automatically switches to the keep warm setting! (you can also turn this feature off if needed) Being able to monitor the smoker from your smartphone is awesome! Clean up is pretty easy too. The used pellets and ash fall into a bin of water, just pour out the water, toss pellets in the trash, and racks into dishwasher. That's it!
You don't have to worry about smoking up the house. It keeps it very well contained and has a button to clear the smoke if you need to open the door. I like to not do that sometimes because the smell it let's out is just heaven!
I am definitely happy with this smoker and the back story on it, from a small group of friends crowd funding to a big appliance company getting behind it is so cool!

Here are two quick things to check so you can get started smoking. Make sure you remove the cling sticker on the display and make the pellet waste bin isn't installed backwards. Either one of these can make the UI look like it's not activated. DM us on our GEProfileUS Facebook channel with more assistance.

For those that want to smoke their meats indoors, with results similar to an outdoor smoker, this is a very unique product on the market at the moment. In fact, there is nothing like this elsewhere. What started as a kick starter product from First Build, it went through multiple iterations and as a result we have something that shows off all the hard work.
To begin, this was built from barbeque enthusiasts and it shows. For an appliance to be useful indoors, it should be easy to clean. All the interior parts are removable and the inside can be cleaned easily with soap and water. Most of the mess from cooking is contained in the drip tray, so you may not have to do a full clean as often as you think. As for the cooking process, it is extremely easy. As with any new grill, it will take a few tries to figure out how to best smoke your food. Operating the machine itself is simple - just set your target temperature or time, smoke levels, add your pellets and water, and you are good to go. After trying this on some ribs and salmon, you can really taste the smokey flavor in the meats. However, keep in mind that it takes about 20 minutes for the smoke to prepare before you can see any smoke inside, so quicker foods will need to take that into account. The biggest downside so far is that once the smoke starts, you shouldn't open the door until you clear the smoke, which takes 10 minutes. This makes it a little harder to gauge your meats early on as you get used to the smoker. During cooking, there really is no smoke leaking to the outside. At most, you will smell a little burning from the pellets and of course, the food itself. It is a little loud though, If you own an air fryer it would be about as loud as those. I would not be able to watch television in the same room as the smoker.
While the product itself is amazing, the mobile app could use some more work. I expected to be able to control more since this has a smart app, but at best it is a real time monitor for temp/time and notifying you when it's ready/preheated/etc. It would have been nice to have more information like a timeline of the meat temperature. Also, there is no way to time when to turn the smoke off, you will have to do that manually or gauge how many pellets to use and have it run out. Since this is all software, it's possible it can be added in a future update, but currently it is holding back a lot of unlocked potential. Aside from that, the only unknown is how the smoker is being filtered, and whether that will last or not. There is nothing to replace as far as I can tell.
Overall, this is a successful product and you will find many videos from First Build showcasing this smoker on their channel. This bodes well for the future of the product, and only time will tell if it can continue to work well into the future. If you want to smoke meats indoors, this is the best alternative to an outdoor smoker. Whether you are a beginner or a pro, you won't be disappointed in giving this a try.

I have rarely been this excited to open a box and get started using an appliance. The thing is that I love smoking various meets, cheeses and veggies but at this time of year the need to tend an outside unit is a total bother. The GE Profile - Smart Indoor Smoker is the solution and after using it just a few times I am thinking that the only reason I might fire up the old one I have outside is if I have a need for considerably greater volume.
Out of the box the unit is easy to assemble and has a heft that says "I am a quality product." It even comes with a small supply of food grade pellets which worked just fine. I purchased additional flavors and trust me this is going to be smoking some salmon tonight. Once set up, the controls are easy to understand and use. The app is also amazingly functional. I particularly like the built in temperature probe which gives you the ability to monitor the internal temp of the precious cargo. It comes with 3 racks which you can slide in at various levels. I don't think I would be using all three unless the protein I am using is on the thin side. However, it will accommodate a nice sized brisket or roast with some wings on another rack.
Along with clear directions, it comes with a nice cook book to get you started. Though you can use just about any procedure you like because it is totally programable. For example you can set it to bring the meat to a target temp and hold or you can go for time based cooking or switch between the two.
And yes, it is totally smokeless even as I see the smoke inside there is no trace on the outside save for a slight smell of something wonderful been cooked!
This is an investment for sure but with the build quality such that it is I think this will last a long time. An important part of usability is clean up. The design includes a drip pan and easily cleanable racks. I have the thing looking like new within 5 minutes after it cools down.
So, instead of super special occasions to fire up my old unit I can now smoke with the same ease as putting something in the toaster oven or microwave - it just takes longer for the food to cook. For this and many more reasons I have carved out permanent space on my counter and will be using this often.

Before I go into detail on this smoker, I suggest before putting it together that you take the time to read the directions. It'll save a lot of trouble for something so minor to put together. Now my first impression was, wow this is a lot bigger than I thought it would be, and a little bit heavier also. I also wasn't expecting to get a small package of wood chips included with the smoker. I already bought a 20 lb bag before I opened it. I also was highly anticipating its arrival, and watched as many videos that were available at the time. I wanted to cook the ribs first, so I had already got two full racks a spare ribs. I didn't think that it would come as fast as it did, so I had already prepared a baby back rib for the oven. I decided to go ahead and cook that instead, since I had already seasoned it and had it ready to go. Also, the digital pad is a sticker, so don't forget to remove it. I poured the water in the tray and I put in my wood chips and closed the door, then I put my ribs in and set the smoke to 5, and put it on 4 hours. I forgot to mention how I downloaded the app, and it worked great! I love how I can see how long was left on the timer. I could turn the light on from the app, and I also get alerts anytime something needed to be done! The sad thing is, when everything was done, I figured out I had overcooked the ribs. The video I watched for this smoker, had two racks of spare ribs being cooked at that temperature, not a small single record baby back ribs. So when cooking on your first try, you should probably check the ribs as often as you think necessary. So the craziest thing though, is after all that, the ribs were still pretty good! So if I would have cooked them at the proper temperature they would have been phenomenal! This is definitely a A+ in my book!

This is such a great product concept that's well executed. I have a hard time using my smoker year round especially in an area with extremely cold temperatures and snow. So this product fits the need for winter smoking and it works really great. Right out of the box, it was really easy to setup and to get it connected to the GE app. I can monitor it remotely now and also when not in the same room at home.
It does just a good of job as a regular smoker and I can use it inside which is huge. It also releases heat so it's perfect to use in the winter and keeps the main floor of my home pretty warm when it's running, so no energy goes to waste. It also has enough space/racks to make dinner for a family of 4 with food left over. So while it's not ideal for larger gatherings, it's perfect for family dinner and can replace the crock pot for a better taste. It also is really efficient with the wood pellets and the design makes it really easy to clean. Overall, I highly recommend this indoor smoker. It's become another go-to appliance in my kitchen.

I wasn’t sure how it would work but based on the reviews i purchaased this unit. Brought it home, preped the unit and loaded a rack of ribs, used the bag of provided pellets. It imparted a lightly smoked flavor to the ribs. They came out juicy and fall off the bone. I was supprised how few pellets the unit used. And the best thing is you can get these results indoors.
