Masterpiece
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hands down one of the greatest PS4 games In my personal opinion. The structure of the overall game I believe draws some inspiration from other open world games like assassins creed so I was expecting it to be a recycled copy, but the fine tuning and innovation put into Ghost of Tsushima surely sets the bar higher for new gen games. This is by no means a generic open world hack and slash. The story is brilliant, the graphics are beautiful, the combat system is smooth. Obviously like any game it has its flaws but they are so minor, they will not deter you from playing hours upon hours. The game comes with a multiplayer mode as well which is quite fun as I have put several hours into that playing with friends/family/random people.

Quality and quantity
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ghost of Tsushima is a must-play for lovers of open-world and story-driven games. The narrative is very strong, and it only gets stronger as it progresses. The open world is one of the best ever created in a video game, and I’m not exaggerating. There is much to do and even more to look at. The combat is nearly perfect as well. Only a handful of games have managed to do melee combat this well. And again, not exaggerating. The game excels in nearly every area. Overall, an extremely solid and unique experience that I, a seasoned gamer, would recommend to anyone interested in games.

One of the best games on PS4 - Must play
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've played plenty of open-world games in my time, and I have to say I've gotten burnt out on a lot of them. But Ghost of Tsushima is easily one of the best games the PS4 has to offer at the end of its lifespan. The game looks gorgeous and much to my surprise it loads and plays like a dream on even a PS4 slim. The story is solid, the gameplay addictive, and you can do as much or as little as you want in the world. Plus, with the addition of a free multiplayer mode, there's even more content to play with. Whether you're still playing your PS4 or were lucky enough to snag a PS5, Ghost should be in your collection if you're looking for an enjoyable and beautiful samurai game to play.

Familiar yet absolutely fresh: best game of 2020
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This year, I’ve played a lot of Yakuza Remastered Collection, Persona 5: Royal, Final Fantasy VII Remake, among many others. They’ve all been great games. But none of them have captured and hooked me quite like Ghost of Tsushima has. GoT plays like many other titles (ie, Days Gone, God of War, Assassin’s Creed, The Witcher 3, Marvel’s Spider-man) in that there’s a large open world to explore, numerous upgrades and customization to be had with your main characters armor, weapons, and health stats, numerous side quests ranging in quality, a compelling main storyline you can take at whatever pace you’d like, and enjoyable combat and traversal. However, unlike any of the aforementioned games, you get to play as a Samurai/Ninja in a feudal Japan setting. The world, soundtrack, atmosphere, voice acting, and numerous options (ie, black and white mode, Japanese/English audio and subtitles) all add together to make something wholly unique from all GoT’s contemporaries. The world is realistic, yet not so ultra-realistic so as to slow the gameplay and pacing down like Red Dead Redemption 2 does. Everything from the traversal, combat, scavenging, etc feels far closer to the Assassin’s Creed series — except this time, there’s no focus on a convoluted sci-fi/modern day plot. The combat feels deadly, quick, and challenging — yet retains a lot of room for mastery. There’s many options regarding how you want to emphasize your play style. I love it. Everything from the stand offs to the stances, mixing and matching classic samurai move sets with the quick, less-honorable ghost (ninja) strategies (throwing Kunai blades, bombs, stealth and assassinations) all adds up to providing TONS of replay value and keeps things so fresh. I don’t see this getting stale or repetitive any time soon. I find myself actually seeking out and engaging every chance I get to battle; to test my skills and to whittle away at the invading Mongel army. I love the lead protagonist, Jin Sakai and the revenge/defending-the-homeland plot. The side characters and quests all have been very interesting and varied so far as well. I’m very impressed. Some is it feels like Witcher 3 levels of side mission quality. I wasn’t expecting that, but I sure am glad to have it. The game isn’t pandering to modern day political agendas and identity controversies. It features a male protagonist, who is defending the weak. There are strong women characters, but it’s not apologetic or subversive like so many games are these days. It feels classic in this way - the standard heroes journey. I’m so thankful games like this can still exist today; without having to shove LGBTQ+ agenda down your throat, or to slam Christianity, etc. Ghost of Tsushima is a game that stays the course. It’s focused on the setting and story and those realistic characters who exist within it. It’s respectful to Japanese history and people’s. Ghost of Tsushima is everything I hoped it would be. It has all the familiar trappings of open world games, but feels tight and focused, has quality AND quantity, and is doing so many things that feel completely unlike all those other games. Couldn’t recommend it enough. It’s easily a 10/10 for me.

Great experience with this one
||Posted . Waited to pick it up when it went on sale and I have really enjoyed it thus far. Been playing it a few hours each evening and the storyline, graphics, and gameplay make it something I look forward to diving into. Controls are great and not too overly complex...except I do get a little confused on selecting between bows and ghost weapons in a battle sometimes. There are plenty of things to search for and discover in this big environment!

Game of the year
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best open world game I have played in a while. I see some comparing it to Assassins Creed and yes it has similarities and as much as I enjoyed Odyssey this is a far better game. Graphics: Are some of the absolute best I have ever seen on the PS4. I think maybe Horizons or Uncharted were the most visually impressive games I had played until now. I am blown away by the environments and visual awe of this game. People look fantastic and plenty of armor and cosmetic choices albeit maybe not quite as many as some other RPG games. The particle effects are stunning. The minimal UI really helps give it a cinematic feel. I can't tell you how many times I just stopped and starred at the incredible landscapes before me. I usually don't bother with photo mode but this game just had too many amazing things to look at. Gameplay: The combat is easily the best i have played in an open world game. I love Witcher 3 more overall but the combat in this is untouched by an other open world RPG. Some are saying it's like Sekeiro in terms of difficulty and while there are moments of difficult combat especially the duels which are like boss fights it's not even close to being that hard unless maybe you put it on hard mode. It does have an easy mode if you need it. The actual combat has your quick and heavy attack, you can dodge and parry and get skills to upgrade these things. It feels really fluid and there were many times I felt like a total samurai badass. You also get a bow and many stealth tools to utilize to spice up the combat or approach the game however you want. The AI is pretty standard, not really good or bad. Story: It's nothing that will blow you away, but it's a good solid story that I enjoyed the whole way through. It won't leave you feeling bitter like TLOU2. Its got plenty if side quests outside the main story and there is no boring fetch quest nonsense, each side quest and activity matters and fits the story of the game. Voice Acting: Top notch I went with the Japanese voices and English subtitles which can take a little getting used to, trying to read them whilst in the midst of also trying to pay attention to the combat on screen. I did get used to it after a while but just something to keep in mind. Also the Japanese voices don't match up to the lips so it's a little weird sometimes. The English voice actors did a great job I just preferred the Japanese because it fits the game more and they are just that good. All in all if you are looking for a fantastic open world RPG to take up a good chunk of time with lots to do and see with the best combat you'll find in an open world RPG. You have the ability to play how you want and experiment. Or you just really want a good feudal Japan style game then this should be at the top of your list.

Simple but stunning!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an amazing game! The combat is challenging, but not insanely difficult. The stealth aspect of the game is also well done, but I like that it is possible to choose either combat or stealth when eliminating enemies and liberating outposts. The story is simple, but nonetheless engaging. The graphics are stunning, and I got some beautiful screenshots out of the Photo Mode. This game isn’t particularly ambitious, something I’d argue is a good thing for video games today, and the simplicity is what keeps me entertained. Overall, a very creative work which I highly recommend.

Red Dead Samurai
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have to say that I think this game is an open world masterpiece. It's great wandering around all the territories and villages, racking up techniques and supplies to trade for improved weapons and items. But the story and the graphics are breathtaking and bring a real emotional weight. It is a game in which honor plays a roll and you can make decisions to meet the expectations of other characters or go down your own path. It is a game that doesn’t forget the past and is a historical piece of wonderment. Well worth the money!

Game of the year!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is an A+ on so many levels. It's one of the few games that maximizes the ps4 pro graphics. It is absolutely gorgeous. The color, detail and movement of everything from characters to trees and everything in between is nearly flawless. I love the voice acting (currently playing with Japanese voices with subtitles. It's like being in a classic samurai movie. I've tinkered with black and white mode but honestly I have 4k HDR for a reason. The music is mesmerizing. The sounds of nature and battle are incredible. I have put quite a few hours into the game and have only covered half of the 1st island. There are so many side quests that I really never get bored. I sometimes just wander around looking at the scenery. There are a couple drawbacks. As in any open world, you get to go in any direction you want. I find myself doing assassin stuff before stumbling into a mission where it makes you feel conflicted with flashbacks. I have also been in area where it tells you a side character is on the other side of the island before you compete a step with her. Honestly though, these are minor complaints. Bottom line, if you're into open world games, Sony saved the best for last for this generation of console. Being a samurai game in feudal Japan just makes it that much better.

One of my fav PS4 games of all time
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of my all time fav PS4 games. It started out slow, but as the world opens up and you get more skills it gets much better. Visually this game is beautiful. The world is full of life and there is always something happening. The combat is fun and intuitive. The story and voice acting was well done. All of these elements kept me engaged enough that I made it my first platinum and 100% the game.

I didn't WANT to like this...
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a fan of Sucker Punch since the first Infamous. The only reason I purchased a PS4 back then was to play the newest Infamous game. Needless to say, when Sucker Punch announced some new game, I was disappointed and really wanted to dislike this since all this did was push a potential next Infamous game further out. But I had to try it. And from nearly the start, I was having trouble disliking this game... Graphics look good, although they're not that outstanding. But they're good. Game play is handled well, although the combat system can be a bit frustrating at times, I'm hoping there's things I'm missing or upgrades that improve some things as the game progresses further. Audio really impresses me though, whether I'm using my home theater speakers, or my new Logitech lightspeed headphones for the PS, I really do FEEL the environment around me via sound, they did a beautiful job with it. The progression is there, but the openness really makes this an enjoyable game. There's not a constant "Point A to Point B" every step preplanned... You can truly wander, pick what objectives or quests you want to work on. Someone mentioned that this was akin to Assassin's Creed, and in some ways it is, which may explain why I'm enjoying this so much, since I really do love those games as well. The voice actors were well chosen, and did good work in this game. Even the little things like reflection and seeking peace that the character does though the game don't end up being gaps in gameplay or annoyances. It's all very well woven into the storyline and gameplay. I've got quite a ways to go, only just last night did I find the people needed to upgrade my katana and bow, so we'll see how things progress from here. But up to this point, I'm loving this game.

Honor and fun
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had high expectations for this game because of the developer and the trailers. This game is as if red dead redemption 2 and breath of the wild had a baby and he liked playing with swords. The combat graphics and story all are top notch and the game gets progressively better as it goes. This is the first the first game I've ever gotten a platinum trophy on. It's also easily in my top games for this generation. Go buy it and make time for it.

Just buy it
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easily my favorite game of the year. As far as past samurai type games go, I tried to get into Sekiro: Shadows die Twice, but it was just too complicated for me. Lots of grinding and dying over and over again. However if you enjoy a challenge and switching between play styles, but not something that makes you sweat your guts out and want to commit seppuku halfway through the boss fight, then this is your game. The world is incredibly immersive due to the detail of the game, and no HUD on the screen. Instead the wind guides you to your objectives and keeps you in it. The juxtaposition between the bloody fighting, and the haiku writing and serene scenes was also a favorite. This also was very manageable as far as open world games go. It definitely takes time to beat, but not 100's of hours like some open world games. Each new part of the map offered something different to keep me engaged. If you are on the fence and reading this, just buy it, you will love it :)

One of the best PS4 games!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Beautifully made game with stunning visuals and in depth combat. The genuity of the game shines through in making a samurai game reminiscent of old black and white samurai films with the completely optional Kurosawa mode, which features Japanese voice overs, English subtitles and black and white film grain filtering. Definitely a must have PS4 game! Runs even better on PS5!!

Top 10 Games of All Time
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not much to say, other than this is genuinely one of the best games I've ever played in my life. It's fun, combat is simple yet technical. Stealth is a ton of fun and reminds me of the original Assassin Creed games before Origins. Story is just heart-wrenching and yet so riveting. Graphics are beyond beautiful, especially on the PS4 Pro.
