What else can I say that already hasn’t been said? Great game that can be as challenging as you want it to be. I suggest playing on Easy to enjoy the story. Then play again on each higher level to see just how each step up in difficulty poses new challenges. This game delivers on all the hype leading up to its release!

This game is awesome. You have an axe you can recall at any time. The story is great and the action is intense as all God of War titles. Kratos has a son called Atreus which helps you in battle and solve puzzles. Some puzzles are a little hard but internet sources help out. I recommend this game fully. 10/10

God of War finally returns in this long awaited sequel. Story is better the previous title as Kratos takes on a new role as a father to his son Atraus. The action is the best its ever been with various challenges. and it is a visual delight. A long journey more than worth a gamer's time.

I was a little hesitant when the newest God of War was announced a couple of years ago. I enjoyed the series but between God of War III and God of War Ascension, I felt the games had become stale.
God of War (2018) proves that a classic can be reinvented and deliver!
I won't spoil the game with plots points but I will say that the Nordic mythology backdrop is breathtaking! I played this on my PS4 Pro and I was constantly in awe of my surroundings. As I progressed, I was anxious about what was in store for me with the story that I was fully into.
Do you need to have played the previous games to fully enjoy this God of War? No, but if you have played the previous games then there's a fuller understanding of the head nods/easter eggs.
There's a lot to do in the game with side missions and collectibles which brought my initial playthrough around 40 hours.
If you like good looking games, solid combat mechanics, and pure fun then this God of War is meant for you.

My title should say it all, I picked up a PS4 Pro just for this game, on 4k it is just cinematic. Ths game as everything, graphics are eye popping in 4k, seamlessly goes from gameplay to cutscene back to gameplay. It's Uncharted, Tomb Raider hack and slash on steroids. There are puzzles, challenges, platforming, crafting, skill trees. It's not a true open world game but it sure feels like one. You can follow just the story or get side tracked on quest. But these side quest are not just distractions to make the game larger than it really is. These side quest all have story meaning. This game is huge, I keep finding new areas after new. I'm an older gamer been gaming for more years than I would admit and I say hand on heart this is the best game ever. I'm a very loyal xbox fan and there is nothing on xbox that compares. If you have the money, I would even recommend buying a PS4 pro, 4k tv just to play this game. It really is that good.

Santa Monica/Sony had a difficult job of taking an established, fan loved franchise, updating it to make people want to continue playing, while not alienating the core fan base. Well, with GOW, they not only did that, they exceeded all expectations. This game is amazing. They took the series in an all new direction, while keeping the core things people love about the series intact.
As for the game itself, without giving anything away: graphically it's beautiful, one of the best looking games right now. Gameplay mechanics are top notch, and will keep you engaged/wanting to play more. Story/plot are a great continuation of the GOW series.
I highly recommend this game. If you like the GOW series, you'll enjoy this game a lot. If you a ps4 owner and just want to play the best games the system offers, you'll enjoy this game a lot. If you've wanted for a game to get you into the new gen of systems, this is it & you'll enjoy this game a lot.

A must-have if you like big meaty single-play game

This game is quite interesting. It looks like it plays radically different, yet alot of the things you do in previous God of War games, they do transfer into this game. So it is new, but if you have experience in previous games, you can also see where they implemented the same concepts. But on top of that, there is this big, meaty game. The best comparison I can give is that it feels well-paced like Resident Evil 4. It has open hub areas, but that isn't the same as your average "open world" game. So, its both open and linear at the same time. Now, I am not the type of person that replays a game multiple times, my goal is to do everything I can possibly do in one playthrough, but it feels like it may be worth playing through if you excel at learning the combat.
On top of that, it looks great, it present a great story. If you want to find a single-player game that is worth owning, this is among the best for the PS4.

So much has already been said about this game that I doubt anything I say would be something that hasn't been said already. It's a ton of fun. It's challenging. It is absolutely a must buy for a PS4 owner. As a long time fan, or someone new to the franchise, it is an incredibly satisfying experience. It's not perfect, though. The story drags a little in the middle. It could use a little more variation in the boss and enemy types. And it could use a few more animations on the grapple kills. However, the story absolutely pays off in the end. And persevering through the challenge of the game leaves you with a feeling of satisfaction you rarely find in modern gaming. Not that it should be necessary to say, but this game is for mature audiences. It's brutal, but that is the charm of God of War games to begin with. Overall, I enjoyed my time with this one. You will not be disappointed if you pick it up.

my first God of War was GoW 2 on the PS2. Since then, I have played this series across 3 consoles over a span of 12 years. I have to admit, I was not enthralled by the trailer for this exclusive (not as much as HZD or Spider Man). However, I decided to try the game as I was devoted to the series for a decade. The game is visually breathtaking. it is in the same league as Horizon Zero Dawn and Shadow of The Tomb Raider (visually) on the Pro. The gameplay is also a lot of fun. The fact that that camera angles can finally be controlled after 7 titles into the series makes this feel less like a sequel and more like a fresh take on a classic, much like Square Enix's 2014 reboot of Tomb Raider. The story is very interesting, but then again, storytelling has always been a highlight of this series. In conclusion, I would recommend this game to both the OG fans and newcomers.

Game of the Year!

The previews of this game had my hopes up very high. The game actually exceeded my expectations! First of all the game is absolutely gorgeous and grand in scope. The combat system is extremely fun and satisfying, although I often found myself forgetting about moves I previously unlocked until I executed them by accident. But the main triumph in this game is the story. The interaction between Kratos and Atreus is mesmerizing and watching the relationship between them develop over the course of the game is fantastic. The other characters in the game are very memorable and their performances are world class. The only criticism I have of this game is that it was shorter than I expected, which is to say that I devoured it. This is one of the few games in which I look forward to the DLC. The last game I played that was this good was Horizon Zero Dawn...and that is saying something.

I procrastinated in buying this game because I thought it was just going to be a rehash of things already revisited previously. The idea of a child sidekick didn't appeal to me much either. I couldn't have been more wrong! This game is an absolute masterpiece from beginning to end. It exudes quality that is nearly unmatched in any recent game save for the likes of Batman Arkham Knight or The Witcher 3. There's a visceral quality to the graphics and sound and gameplay that really has to be witnessed to fully appreciate. And the story will linger for a very long time. Please don't make the assumption that I did. You want this game. Trust me.

The Game of 2018

One of the best (if not the best) games of this console generation so far.
This is a dark, mature action adventure game that will last around ~20-30 hour game (with no filler content) depending on how much you explore, and difficulty level you selected with emphasis on quality over quantity.
The game has a very nice pacing/progression system that feels very natural. The game does not hand hold you, or set you to your own devices; rather gives you enough information to figure things out on your own
Different from past God of War (GOW) games is that, this game is a over shoulder 3rd person view vs isometric view (camera with birds eye view panning in and out). The camera is very tight fixed, and behind kratos making it more grounded and personal. Entire game is pretty much one-shot (assuming you don't get any game over screen).
The game has beautiful environment and the lighting is very impressive. It runs
1080p 30fps on PS4 (original or slim)
4k 30fps, and performance mode 1080 60fps (dips at times) on the PS4 Pro
If you play on PS4 pro it's preferred you play at 30fps. The combat this time around is less combo based than past games, and more methodical as it's more about precision hits, quick turns*, and dodging; being aware of your surroundings due to the fixed over the shoulder view. So 60fps is not really necessary unless maybe you're playing on the hardest difficulty mode.
* For quick turns there's a learning curve to keep form being disoriented during right corridors.
Sound is amazing. Get your headset or home theater system ready because you're in for a treat as the game has really nice surround sound option. Does not support 3D audio in the PlayStation Platinum headset which is disapointing. Hope they add it in, in the future.
Music typical for GOW games with drums, string instruments and orchestral vocals that really gets you pumped up
There are some audio ques that help unlock hidden items so keep an ear out
Interaction/dialogue with kratos and his son feel very real and not dialed in or exaggerated. very nice banter between the two and other characters as well
-Story:
As mentioned before, very mature yet dark. The story is more narrative driven and has more character development than past games where you're just full of rage and kill everything in sight. Each character has complex motivations in what they're set out to do
Takes place in Norse mythology instead of Geek
The main plot is that Kratos' wife has died and she wants her ashes spread from the highest mountain
Kratos takes his son with him on this journey and through a bonding experience they both grow stronger as they reach their final destination. the journey isn't that simple as it seems as there are twist and turns along the way and enemies they have to face
You do get some insight on how Kratos reach this land after GOW3, but it's sprinkled throughout instead of one long exposition
Side quests brings out lore of the game and also way to upgrade your skill tree
There are boat sections in the game where Kratos gives his son life lessons, conversely his son gives inside knowledge of the world he learned through observation/what he learned from his mother; which makes you more invested in the characters.
-Gameplay
The combat has a lot of layers/options to it.
Instead of Quick Timed Events (QTE) there's a stun meter which which needs to be filled up for kratos make his signature final finishing moves on enemies. Feels very natural as you don't get a huge button prompt the middle of the screen
I like how the core combat is mapped to the trigger buttons instead of the face buttons making combat feel more natural
There's a skill tree that cater to how you want to play: defensive, offensive, focus on physical or magical attacks, range vs close combat, master a weapon over the other, etc
You can upgrade weapons and armor by collecting materials
Kratos' main weapon this time around is the leviathan axe (very similar to Thor's (Marvel movies/comics) weapon Mjolnir) instead of his chained blades of chaos. You can throw the axe and have it call back to you like a boomerang. You can swing and throw the axe at enemies and fun to master as you have to judge the timing of when the axe will return to you as without your axe you may only have your bare fists to do battle till it comes back
There is some strategy involved especially in the higher difficulty settings. Some enemies are super effective against certain weapons/skills you have to be aware of
Krato's son comes along with you on the journey and is able to help with by stunning/detract enemies with an arrow which you can control the activation. Overtime as he becomes more experienced in combat more options are available. He'll also yell out tips when needed** or jump onto enemies to slow them down. Also you can view his journals after you defeat an enemy to find out hidden weaknesses
**Seeing the camera is so tight, he'll give you tips you are not able to see at times due to blind spots
Armor and clothes can be crafted, purchased, or upgraded via dwarf blacksmiths in game . It changes krato's physical appearance in game. Some armor/clothing piece has slots for enchantments which effects stats
Enemies attack you gorilla style as they can attack at anytime they want instead of gathering up in a circle and attacking one by one. Each enemy have different variety of skills, health, size, weakness and speed
There are backtracking at times that builds on exploration. Also the environments sometimes change when going back making the location feel different yet the same. There's also hidden areas you cannot access until you get a particular item giving the game this somewhat of a metriod-mania style to it
Through mini objectives like kills specific about of enemies to get exp rewards
Side quest gives you glimpse of story narrative, exp gain and or material. It doesn't feel like fetch quests or something you have to do to directly upgrade your character . There's no fluff and the side quests does not feel tacked on as it feels necessary, yet optional
You'll naturally stumble onto some side quests as the map only shows an overview of the land with a compass that points you to your main objective. Fast travel is limited, making exploration in the forefront. There's not too many side quests making it feel open and direct at the same time
As of this review, this is best PS4 game in my opinion. Sets a new standard for video games

I bought the God of War Saga collection, which had all the games released at the time, and played through them all. 2 was probably the best of the bunch (same director as this game) but none of them were really that great. The enemy variety and gameplay in general would get really repetitive and boring. The formula of the games was hallway - battle arena - hallway - battle arena, with QTE boss fights thrown in the mix now and then. I was so relieved that they finally mixed up the formula. Kratos is upgradable, the world offers exploration and there is more depth to the battle mechanics than just button mashing. The biggest surprise of all, Kratos has depth and is no longer a wooden one-note angry man with no redeemable qualities but someone who's story I actually enjoyed following. This game is everything I wasn't expecting, which is all I ever wanted.

This game is an incredible experience. The story is engaging, the world is beautiful, the characters are memorable, and the gameplay is highly satisfying.
This is a fairly linear story driven. After the opening, you are given a variety of different linear side activities to choose from throughout the game, or you can just go straight through the main story objectives.
The combat feels fluid and weighty and upgrading skills and armor along the way is very rewarding. Personally i found the combat tedious and cheap on higher difficulties, but on the normal difficulty i really felt like a God of War, with some reasonable difficulty peppered in throughout the experience. I look forward to trying higher difficulties again on ng+ when that is added.
This game really makes me look forward to the future of God of War and gaming.

I have to say that the story and graphics were amazing, though without any spoilers I felt the ending wasn't as satisfying as I would have liked. This game has rich graphics and the character development is phenomenal and quite moving. It's a great experience. Where I was disappointed the most was the game play. To be fair my controller was a bit busted from years of use and my character drifted forward as I would try to throw, but I found it hard to move/dodge and aim the throwing of the axe which is pretty much the main weapon and is used in most aspects of the game. I couldn't lock on to targets and that made it a challenge, but this game was revered for its exceptional game play. The biggest flaw by far was the insanely small text. I'm near sighted and I probably need a "thicker set" (yes that's a 'My cousin Vinny' reference...lol) but I literally found myself about 5 feet from the screen just to read the tutorials. So, I guess when you hear about how this is a mind altering game (Metacritc had this at 94 when I bought it which was the best rated game of the year and a point or 2 behind some of the best games in years), I came away slightly disappointed. That said, it was an incredible journey and there's a ton to find. You have enormous beasts that are synonymous with the series and the story is exceptional. I found it not quite on the level of "The Last of Us", but it's riveting and there was something so satisfying as slaying a giant monster that no other game can come close to as far as battle, even as I battled my controller...lol. So, if you are a fan of the series I highly recommend it and if you like RPGs than the combination of the 2 will blow your mind as this is very much an Open World RPG. Though, a lot of areas are blocked off keeping you on a linear path as much as the story doesn't really have any branching at least in my experience. So, some RPG aspects are not there. Though, I just don't think it's as good as some of the better games like GTA V, Last of Us and the game I am currently playing, Uncharted 4. Please bare in mind that much like any form of art or media that these views are totally subjective. Though, it's definitely a very good game and that's why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

After kratos killed all the greek gods he's now moving to the Norse side of the world to try to live a quiet life with his new family.
After his wife passes away she requests to have her ashes spread on the highest mountain.
Before this happens a mysterious man arrives demanding you to open your door and let him in. From here your story starts.
Awesome new refined fighting, with an over the shoulder view similar to gears of War or uncharted.
You use your leviathan axe which can be customized to defeat your opponents. It works very similar to Thor's hammer when thrown and can be called back with a satisfying light rumble from your control when the axe hits your hand.
Awesome story, awesome combat and great boss battles.
A ton to collect and explore in this semi open world game.
Just buy it and play it!!!!
